happy 6 months byron!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tee he he... Thanks Hollye. Yep, 6 months today!
A what a wonderful 6 months it has been. Gosh, I just love him so much..... He's so darn cute! I can't believe I've been happily breastfeeding for 6 months. I always said I would like to BF for 6 months if I can, but would be ok for 3 months. Now I'm planning to go to 12months, well 14, 12 corrected.
BJ has been a bit grizzly since his shots on Thursday. Just very whingy. He's been sleeping well though. Not feeding at that great, but that's ok cause he weighed 7.6kgs on Thursday. He's still in the 75th percentile for his corrected age. Everything else is the 50th percentile. I was a little concerned a couple of weeks ago cause he'd only put on 370g in 4 weeks. So I've made an effort to push him a little more for his feeds, now feeding off both sides, and it's paid off. He put on 180g in 9 days.
The GP suggested I start him on Farex to up his iron. As it's the last few weeks of pregnancy that babies store iron & BJ missed out on that. Yesterday I mixed 1/4 teaspoon with EBM, it made up about 1 teaspoon. He took the lot, no problem at all. Actually he could've had alot more but I want to start him really slow. I'll keep doing this for 3 days, then gradually increase the portion. He's only 4.5 months corrected so I'm just gonna keep him of Farex for 3 or 4 weeks. Then I'll introduce veges, then fruit. It's very exciting.
I haven't been going to yoga as i've been doing it at home. It's much easier to do first thing in the morning so I don't disturb BJ too much. Have been alternating yoga with walking. I'm thinking of joining BELFIE & CSAB for the WW online. I'd like to lose 12kgs, before BJ's christenening in June.
Ummmm, what else....... I've just read the book Contented Little Baby Book. It's similar to save our sleep. I'm actually gonna try the routine. Though I think I'll add an extra nap in the afternoon as BJ already sleeps through the night & is currently having that nap. The routine I was doing doesn't work anymore cause BJ isn't sleeping as much. I just prefer to have a routine. That's just me I guess.
Have a lovely weekend Mums & Bubs ..... Mmmmwah!
Hi Everyone,
Georgi - Havent seen you on for a little while. Nice to see BJ is doing so well with his weight and also trying farex. V has started making the signs of being ready to start solids, so looking at giving her a go soon. Tried her a couple of weeks ago, but she really wasnt that fussed. I have V's pead checkup on Friday, I cant wait to see how much V weighs, so fingers crossed he is happy with her progress. I am thats for sure. She is still little tho, but I know she will get there. It would be good to see you online at WW's too. :D
Teru - Sounds like your little man is loving his tucker.... Have a wonderful trip away. hugs
A huge hello to everyone else. Hope all your bubbas are doing well.
csab - do u have any recent pics of Olivia???? i dont even know what she looks like... :(
csab - oh that's exciting re V & solids! Fingers crossed re V's check-up with the paed & her weight.
georgi - Happy 6 months to BJ! I think you've done such an amazing job for how premmie he was... you just seem to take it all in your stride so well! So congrats to a clever mumma. Oh and I meant to say, when you're BF'ing, they say you shouldn't lose more than 500g a week... so dunno if you can fit 12kg loss in before June without potentially impacting your BF? sorry to sound negative, but thought u should know.
Hollye - oh that's just fab that she hasn't spewed for 14 hours, I really hope it keeps going for you. I'm crossing my fingers, legs, arms & toes big time for you!
G'day everyone I've missed... come post - it's been so quiet here! I won't name names, cos I'll forget s'one with my baby brain, and I don't want to offend anyone.
Well we're going well here. X is a bit grizzly today - few big spews (he's been talking to Mia mebbe?) and I think a touch of diarrhoea... so I'm wondering if there's anything in my diet that's set him off... bit different due to WW... but I'm not doing diet products, just healthy whole foods. Oh well, we'll see. Plus I'm on full eczema battle! I'm taking flaxseed oil & fish oils.. plus we're trialling moo goo on one leg, medihoney on one arm and standard regime on the rest of the body. We've got the experimental protocol written up on the wall above his change table... OMG we're such nerds... pick the research background
Anyways, hadn't been on Wii Fit for about 2.5 weeks... just got on and I've lost 1.9 kg even though I only started WW on Weds! So I don't know what to think now - cos i haven't lost THAT much since Weds... but i don't want to lose TOO quick cos that's bad for milk supply. Not that I'm complaining, 1.9kg is fab. Now if I ever wore something other than trackies ,mebbe I'd notice the difference lol.
Aaah geez I should stop waffling & get back to it. DH's back is bad atm, so I've been busy busy.
He nearly sounds edible
Be back later to post - Riley's party was AWESOME (well, that's what the kids said anyway lol ;)) - I am cleaning up the paper trying to find the floor again - poor Z has only had 3 30 mins naps today cos we have been out so much - he is in bed now - but even though so disruptive during the day, he is still doing well at night - Thank Goodness!
Georgi, I did wanna ask a question - when you say corrected age - do they correct up to 40 weeks or only 37 cos that is when bubs is considered term? Just wondering .... oh and I was gunna hold out for solids for another 2 weeks - but last night at the table Zander actually screamed at us when we were eating - i had broccoli so gave him a piece off my plate and he played around with it - then screamed for more - not that he really ate it, more tongued it then dribbled out - but thats all part of the fun. Oh and dont worry too much about the weight gain - it starts to go down after 6 months to nowhere near the 150 - 200 grams a week from the early days!!!
and well done on b/f for 6 months - I am definitely gunna hang in there cos we are going camping at Easter and b/f will be much more family friendly if he starts to cry in the middle of the night and I can just rollover and feed him (fingers crossed!)
gosh, another chapter written here LOL - back later.
Byron: You're 6 months old? You're supposed to be the same age as Jude! I feel like we're cheating this month because February is so short Jude will very soon be 5 months old.
Tanya: Let us know how the sleep thing goes, I really really really hope things improve. You're having such a rough time with things.
Jude has started whinging and cringing through formula feeds. So not only has he fought off my boobs but now he's over formula, too??? :wall: I'm getting that boy on solids before he starves himself. He's been a bit chucky today. Lots of cottage cheese.
A me post today:
We went to Brisbane yesterday and I spent the day on South Bank, it was so lovely there! I had a beer overlooking some markets, but it was an expensive beer. Then we stayed in the Ibis overnight (get special rates for hubby's work) and they provided a travel cot (cause we don't have one) but it was uncomfortable for Jude and he refused to sleep in it, so we ended up with him between our pillows. His sleeping noises kept me up, but he only needed to be fed at 4.40am and then after getting to sleep reaaallly late (for him) he slept in until hubby's alarm went off at 8am!!!
Jude put his own dummy back in his mouth today. I was sooo proud of him. we just bought an Ikea highchair so I can start feeding him sitting up, because he arches his back when I feed him and he's getting too strong for me to hold him. Yesterday I was feeding him by the pool in South Bank and he pushed himself out of my arms and slid off my lap to the seat beside me and landed on his head, so he has a scratch on his head and I felt sooooo guilty.
Then when I got him back to the hotel we had a bath and Jude pooped in the bath. :spit:
He's getting impossible to wrap, so I think it's time for a sleeping bag. I want to buy a Grobag but they're a tad pricey and I'm going to need to buy 2, one for now while it's still hot and one for winter. Does anyone know a cheaper brand that's 100% cotton and where can I buy it?
mmm sleeping bag queen here!
I was hunting for cotton only bags, and found them easy to get for summer, but nearly all winter ones are a cotton outer with polyester filling -dunno if that doesn't meet your criteria?
Anyways, love the grobags, but yes they're pricey. Got a good one from pumpkin patch on special ($32 reduced to $16) that was almost identical to a grobag in style but a smidge shorter (mebbe an inch or two?). Tried a snugtime and was also given a sprout brand, but they both have the travel slot and zip up the front which I've concluded I don't like. If bubs is asleep they're much harder to get in & out without disturbing them. I definitely prefer the closable tabs on both shoulders and zip on the side. Just bought a new pumpkin patch one (latest one in is $36) but realised that one shoulder is sewn in...still better value than the grobags IMO.
Was also looking at dreambags but haven't tried one (website thedreambag dot com dot au), was thinking of buying one for winter. Also, Target had some last winter which I bought a cheap one which was quite nice too - but press studs up the front... so again, design not quite as good, but might be interesting to see what they have this year. Myer also have a couple of other sorts too, but mostly in girlie colours/patterns so I gave them a miss.
BELFIE Oh yeah... I did know that about only be able to lose 500g per week while BF. But I forgot! Darn it... Guess I'll have to re asses my goal.
CSAB Good luck to V for her weigh in. Looking forward to hearing the news
SAMI Yeah they take the corrected age from 40weeks. I guess cause premmies are normally behind in the milestones & weight gain that they need to take it from 40week to give them that bit longer... My theory anyway
KURAIZA I still look at it as they are the same age anyway. What's 7 weeks amongst friends  I'm still wrapping BJ too, but wanting to wean him off it.
TANYA Good luck for Wednesday. I can't wait to hear how it all goes
I just bought a gro bag. Yep... Very pricey. I wish I knew about the PP ones. I only have one so will check out PP before the next purchase.
oh Georgi, I forgot to say, I reckon it's worth getting at least one grobag cos the little nursery thermometer you get in it is really handy when you're travelling... so there you go it's worthwhile :) X has the panda bag, he looks soooo cute in it.
Oh and I also found the jollybeans brand online, but haven't tried them
btw Kuraiza - I just looked at their website again, looks to be 100% cotton!!!
A woman at my MG uses that book - and she's used it from the first week. And now her baby is in a constant routine. I want to have a look at that book too. I might see if it's at my local library. And happy 6 months to Byron! I can't believe how fast time is flying!
csab - I hope your mum is doing OK. Oh and if you can get V to talk to Maya about sleeping better that would be great. And yes we give Maya a bath before bed but after the bath she cries so we don't give her a massage. I think she hates being cold after the bath. :dunno: Maya has some favourite toys and teddys but she never falls asleep on her own. That's what I'm hoping to achieve - have Maya learn to get to sleep on her own.
Sami - That's great that the MCHN came to your place for an afternoon. I think they also visited kuraiza. I rang them first for help and all they did is told me to ring Tweddle @ home and other sleep centres. Also I must say I am glad to know that I am not the only one who has struggled. And I think part of my struggle is being so isolated from family and friends. I take my hat off to women who can do this role on their own! I feel like a bit of a failure that I can't manage it all on my own when there are so many capable women out there with more than one child and no support and they manage fine.
Sleeping bags - I was given a snugtime and I am trying it out for some sleeps. I have also started to wrap Maya with her arms out. A book I was reading suggested that at 4 months to stop wrapping so that they can have access to their hands and use them to self settle. So far using the bag hasn't made any difference to her sleep. But it's easier to put on and off than wrapping.
I forgot to mention the other day that I'm also sick at the moment. :cold: So that's not helping things. It's just a virus - sore throat, snotty, achy, bleh. But that makes it harder to deal with things. It's been a week now and I hope it goes away soon!!
I rang the MCHN helpline for the first time looking for advice and they were so helpful! I don't know why I never thought to ring that number before! The MCHN said I was probably putting Maya down too often (when she's not tired). And the signs I am taking as her tired signs could be bored signs instead - I really am no good at seeing tired signs. :wall: Anyway, I am now leaving her up longer and she seems to be going to sleep quicker and staying asleep longer. But she does get cranky after being up for a while. Still that's easier to deal with than spending an hour getting her to go to sleep!!
I borrowed The Wonder Weeks from the library and I absolutely love it and highly recommend it. Even if you don't believe in the wonder weeks theory it's got heaps of useful advice on things you can do to help babies with their progress - e.g. holding a toy behind them so they roll over - and it has age appropriate games to play and toys they might like. It's been so good for me cos I have no clue what to do with babies! And I love that it's age appropriate, it's all suggestions not 'you should be doing this' and the games are easy to find in the book. I wish I'd found this book earlier!!
oh my.. where has my newborn gone??
today she has rolled all across the lounge room, tried to eat the remote, scared daddy half to death coz she nearly rolled off the change table, turned around in her bouncer to see the pics on the back of it :wall: and pulled herself over to the bookcase to play with her books..
oh man.. and its only 1pm
belfie - I was on the verge of buying the panda bag - for obvious reasons - but am just a bit on the edge of parting with $85 for a sleeping bag ... but, having said that, work calcualted my LSL at my part-time rate only and should have included full-time component (pre-kids) - so I am getting back paid some $$ - mebbe if I just keep it quiet from DH ..... :)
bugger - was gunna do a long post - but by the time i put shopping away, washing on line, Giselle snack, Z is stirring again already - be back later ... !!!
morning ladies....
not been in here much... but i have been reading..
my little (well not soo little) boy can roll back to front :) can also roll/wriggle all round the floor in the lounge!!! have to watch him now.... he can sit by himself for a short time, loves his jolly jumper, loves his food... and slept last night un-wrapped...he is also drinking 250mls at a time now :D he is growing so fast!!! teeth...well they are still just sitting below the gums...playing havoc!!!
sorry no personals... just not up to it... have sinus probs AGAIN...
Hello,
I know I haven't been around much but I have been reading too. Bethany seems to have been kidnapped and replaced by an evil twin, We are up twice a night for no reason really. When we offer her the bottle she only has a little bit and then doesn't want anymore. She does settle back to sleep though so I shouldn't complain I guess. Yesterday afternoon she screamed and I mean "oh my goodness I am being killed by my mother" scream for 2 hours. Andrew was at his mum and dads and I nearly called him home but I knew MIL would answer and want to know what was going on and offer her input (which is for the record that the reason she is like this all of a sudden is that she wants solids. Never mind that she shows no interest in solids she has had behaviour change so she is ready.) In reality I think that we have had a full on few weeks with moving and all that and we are all just out of synch and need to find our new routine but try explaining that to the people who know how to parent better than you. The other night we were at Andrews grandparents for a BBQ and I put Bethany down for a sleep and she did her cry thing before dropping off. She does this it is no biggy. If it lasts longer than 5-10mins I go in but otherwise it is her way of winding down (Believe me took me along time to accept that!! was sure I was a bad mum!!) Well I nearly needed to baracade the door as MIL wanted to go in to "fix" it and show me how to settle her. GGGGGRRRRRRRRRR I am tried, feel like I am failing cause my baby is going backwarks. She has stopped feeding properly, it is a fight just to do 200mls. *Sigh* For now she is sleeping so I think I might lie down too.
Sorry this was meant to be a hello post not a vent!!!
Hugs to all
Hi and morning!
Amy - sounds like you know why Bethany has been unsettled - as you said with the move and probably feeling your anxiety about it and getting her settled again etc - sounds like you are doing a great job. They are starting to realise at around 5 months that there are much more exciting things to do than feed - but honestly if she still takes 150mls a feed - relax honey, she will take what she needs - we can't forcefeed these little terrors :) Screaming - have you checked her gums, or does she have a cold or something? Just a few little random thoughts running through my head....
Kat - Jack is off and away :) gosh Zander is still happy just to lay there without his nappy on just rolling from side to side - I have to keep saying to my other kids - no! don't give him the toy, let him try and get it LOL. He will do it in his own time - he rolls tummy to back very deliberately all the time now - but just watches Riley like crazy - he just loves his big brother. :D Zander's teeth have been fine for the past week, I keep checking, and it looks like one is starting to push through - but I always keep stuff in my bag now for when we go out just in case!
belfie/csab - with WW online - can you see any of the recipes without joining etc - I have tried to look (I like the price of on-line :p) - but cant find them - and the point system too - do you have to sign-up before you can have a good look at it?
Gotta go - HEAPS of errands today and a fairy part at 3pm this arvo!!
Hey guys, if anyone's interested I wrote an article based on the technique I used to lose weight a couple of years ago which worked so well for me I never regained weight and I even lost 3 kgs since getting pregnant. It's a really simple technique to get control of yourself again and STAY in control forever. Anyway, if you're interested PM me and I'll dig it up.
I think Jude's teething. Not sure, better take him to the doctor today to make sure because he was unsettled last night and he was folding his ear in half last night while I was feeding him so it could be an earache, but this morning he was chomping on my thumb really hard and I thought I could feel a sharp bit on his top gum.
Amy: You're doing great and I think you're right about what's upsetting Bethany, and you're right to keep the MIL away until things settle down, too. Thumbs up!
Georgi: Are you ever coming back to yoga? I have to take Jude this week, so no more completing an entire routine, Oh well it was fun while it lasted.
Hollye: How did she pull herself over the bookcase? I'm intrigued!
Belfie: You're the first person I've heard of with a sleeping bag addiction . Thanks for the info, it was helpful! I also found Smart Dream bags online, which look nice and the 0.5 tog are much cheaper. I wish we had some spare money, I just hate hate hate being broke with a baby :(.
Tanya: Things are looking up for you and Maya! I'm really glad you're getting on top of things, I hope it's empowering for you. It makes a big difference to sort out the sleeping thing, a big big difference.
Jude's constipated. The MCHN suggested brown sugar in his milk, I'm not sure I like the idea of introducing him to sugar. A girl at MG suggested baby tea or chamomile tea. Any other suggestions??
Kuraiza - oh so am i!
constipation -
Coloxyl (sp)
water
Prune juice (with water)
Infants friend
I've had a busy few days, I've read all the posts but really don't have a lot of time to reply.
DH finally gave me an eternity ring on Friday, it was so unexpected and wonderful, we've been together for nearly 10yrs, married for 5yrs this June and have 5 kids. Julian is starting to roll more just from back to front and back again, just on the right side. My boob got better by Friday so that's a blessing.
Ok BBL.
hugs xoxo
Well.. I keep feeling like there is progress but then everything falls apart again. So it's a few steps forward and many steps back. sigh. On the weekend she did so well with her day sleeps - did some 2 - 2 1/2 hour sleeps and she wasn't as hard to settle at night. Then yesterday she slept well during the day but night time was hell! I tried to put her down at 8pm and finally after 2 1/2 hours of trying everything I could think of she finally fell asleep on my bb at 10.30pm and I put her to bed. :wall: I was so exhausted and miserable last night. And the latest thing is.. my DH can no longer put her to bed. I also struggle A LOT obviously but she'll scream and not stop screaming if DH tries to rock her to sleep. With me she'll just cry or moan. So it just feels like yet another thing I have to do that no one can help me with. Tomorrow someone from Tweddle @ home is coming.. so I am really hoping that can make a difference somehow!!
kuraiza - Yeah I know how great the sleeping thing is. A month ago Maya was so good with her sleeping. I could put her down easily. And I felt like I was able to do things again. Now I feel like I've gone right back to the start when Maya was a newborn and I couldn't get things done and I couldn't get her to sleep and I had no idea what I was doing. The hardest thing for me is that it was HEAPS better for me and I thought it would stay like that or if it got bad again it would be just a phase. But it's now been 4 weeks of very hard. :( As for constipation someone at MG yesterday said their DD was constipated and she was giving her DD water.
amy - You are describing my life over the last 4 weeks! Hopefully Bethany settles down much sooner for you!
aww Tan i hope u get some good advice today! hugs!
hiya girls :D
not much happening here...besides my little steam roller boy (rolling round the lounge room is his fave past time now!!!) thinks he is very clever, he is scoffing his food BIG time...still not the best sleeper during the day, meh! who cares he is a good sleeper at night.
I had a meet up with 3 other BB mums today..was sooo nice getting out and talking to other adults!!!! there was an 11 week old little girl, a 3 month old a 4 month olf and Jack :) he is sooo fascinated with other bubs..he gets all excited and squeals...
KURAIZA Not at this stage. I have started BJ on a routine which means he sleeps from 11am to 1.15pm. I have implemented a daily walk into my routine & have been doing yoga myself at home on Wednesday's.
As I mentioned, I have started BJ on a routine which seems to really suit us.. The only problem is that he's waking around 3am for a feed. He normally has 5 feeds a day, but this feed it his 6th. I'm guessing it's just a growth spurt & nothing to do with the routine as he's feeding heaps longer at each feed to what he normally does. The problem is that I can't get back to sleep. Then DH wakes me up, being so darn noisey, when he gets up for work at 5am. Pllleeeeasssse just be a growing spurt!
BELFIE I lost 900g in the last week.... By accident. Just by walking for 30mins every morning plus my 1 yoga session. I was still eating ice cream & naughty stuff, hadn't changed my diet at all. I guess it won't last long.
TANYA I'm so so sure you will get some good help today. I just know it *hugs*
HOLLYE How's Mia been on the medication? Has it helped?
Hello to everyone else, sorry no time for personals xx
my little man is sending me crazy!!!!! he woke at 1.27am then 4ish am...really snotty and sniffly BUT did go back to sleep after my persistance...i wish these darn teeth would hurry up.....
i am sooo over the rolling now too!!! because he gets frustrated when he can't to anything BUT roll....and all he does is roll...
Hi all,
Sorry but cant do personals today, have a migraine.. Hit me after I went to the pead, which I had found out yesterday was actually today not Friday.
Anyway here's V's measurements.
Weight Birth - 2.38kg Now - 4.3kg
HC Birth - 34cm Now 39.5cm
Birth Length - 47cm Now 56.5cm
As you all may remember she has a little lump on the back of her head too the left, well at first the Dr wasnt quite sure what it was but has now told me that it is definately a Dermatoid Cyst and needs to be removed. He doesnt want to do it just yet, want her to grow a bit more but wants to see her again in 3mths time and will then book the surgery to have it removed. Thankfully he told me it is only day surgery so she wont be staying in hospital just for the day. I am really not looking forward to that day, let me tell you. Maybe thats why I ended up with a Migraine as soon as I stepped into the car when I left.
Sami - You have to sign up and purchase online or unlimimited to be able to view the recipes. You can also get recipes from the WW magazines.
Hi to everyone else, sorry but just not well enough atm hugs.
oh i've been a bit missing! But I'm back!
Had a hot stone massage today (belated birthday pressie) and it was BLISS! DH looked after X, and then I went to medicare and got like a million gazillion dollars back (I wish!) on the million gazillion receipts I hadn't submitted yet! I'm still trying to get all my bookkeeping stuff sorted, so had MIL over again on Tues... and X promptly slept for 4 hours through the arvo, so I'm sure she thought I have nothing to do all day lol but she was nice about it.
new pic here of my happy little boy in his new overalls (finally cooler weather!) - he was just super-smiley (usually it's instant frowns when the camera comes out) I could just eat him up he's so cute : https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...0&ppuser=11474
CSAB - sooo sorry to hear that V has to have an op ,how stressful for you  hope the migraine departs asap too.
KAT - lol on the rolling!
GEORGI - eep those night wakes aren't fun. Fingers crossed he gets back to normal routine soon! And that's awesome on the weight. I've weighed in after my first week and I'm 1.6kg down so I'm pretty thrilled with that.
TANYA - I was thinking of you yesterday and hoping it was useful! I'm looking forward to hearing the update. Oh and I'm going to look for that book you mentioned too!
AJ - aaww that's so sweet he gave you that! I might have to drop some hints to DH. We've got our 10th wedding anniversary in May... hmm.
KURAIZA - lol I'm glad you like my addiction, I think I'm addicted to the oddest things! I'll look up those sleeping bags too... they sound good. As for the article, thanks heaps for the offer. I'm going ok so far, but i'll definitely come a'knocking when I start to plateau I'm sure!
SAMIH - yeah I'm not sure how much of WW online you can see before you join. I find it pretty good & user friendly (but i'm a nerd, so mebbe that helps?!?).
Everyone I missed, MWAH!
Morning Ladies
Csab ~ hun V will be fine with the op (easy to say i know!!) but she is a fighter!!! and everything will be fine. Woo hoo on her weight by the way...i hope your migraine has eased.
Belfie ~ overall fan here to hun!!!!
sorry everyone else.... no personals..just not in the mood :( am off to work today to negotiate less hours :(
well success last night!!!! i wrapped Jack in the kiddopptimus as i hadn't 2 night previously and the bugger woke up BOTH those nights twice!!! well last night he didn't wake!!!!! i woke at 4am expecting him to be awake...but nope :D then i lay there thinking/waiting for him to wake... he fed at 6am and went straight back to sleep :D and is still sleeping now...
csab - Sorry to hear that V needs an op. But her growth is good. :)
belfie - Oh that massage sounds nice. :)
Georgi - What routine were you following? I've decided that I like to have a bit of a routine but I find it so hard to stick to any sort of routine as soon as I leave the house! Plus I find that a strict routine just doesn't work for me. Like now I am not supposed to feed her before 3 hours since the previous feed and I'm not supposed to feed her if she hasn't just woken from a sleep. But she keeps only managing to stay up about an hour or less even. Then she does an hour or hour and half nap. So sometimes that's 2 hours since the last feed but I can't resettle or feed her and I'm at a loss as to what to do. The nurse is going to call tomorrow so I'm writing a big long list of questions to ask her!
katones - Yay on Jack's good sleep. :)
So a woman from Tweddle came over yesterday. It was great having that extra support. I had tried some of the things she wants me to put in place, but I always gave up on them cos I never knew if I was doing the right thing or not. Now I have the confidence to keep going. I have no idea if it'll work or not for me. But something had to change and I think this is definitely worth a try. So far it seems to take less time to settle her down for a sleep which is good! But not everything is working at the moment or sometimes it takes a lot of resettling to get her to sleep or to go back to sleep. I just hope she'll be able to self settle at some point!
Anyway, I'm feeling more positive at the moment. And one of the good things is that my DH can again help to settle her. For a while now my DH couldn't put her to bed because she'd scream the house down and not stop screaming if he tried. So for me even that's a huge plus that he can help me with it again! :)
And I'm still down on all the sleep school waiting lists - so at least I know if this doesn't work out for me on my own I have those (when they are available!) as backup!
ETA - I forgot to mention that we also moved Maya to her own room and into her cot yesterday. She wasn't going to fit in her bassinet much longer and the woman from Tweddle thought it would be a good time to move her and start the new routine at the same time. I really missed Maya last night though. I love hearing her little noises and knowing everything is OK. Our room felt so empty last night. :( I keep thinking if I'm missing her this much and she's just in another room, imagine what I'll be like when she stays at someone else's house for the first time.
Hello all!!
Turns out my cranky baby turned in to a very sick baby. Short version she woke up Tuesday all phlemey and congested having trouble breathing, took to to emergancy, they wanted to observe her. While there she had what they call a "faint" where she was unconsious and unresponsive for about 5mins although still breathing (thank God!!) Mummy and daddy however were not!! So she was admitted overnight, then they found that she had RSV so longer stay. We got home a couple of hours ago, She is still clogged up poor darling and not well but I am happy to have her home, she can rest more and just chill here. Anyway I will be back tomorrow sometime...For now I want to shower and sleep after 4 days in a little hospital room!!!
Oh crap Amy!!!!! What is RSV - guessing respiratory something virus?? How absolutely scary for you - good on you for trusting your gut mummy instinct and getting her seen to - well done  It's hard to know when to make that call sometimes ...
Heaps to say, been very busy - but no time :) Zander had a 5 months check up yesterday and was 7.7kg and 68cms long - so about 70th percentile all round .... starting on some rice cereal tomorrow, he yelled at us again tonight and as soon as he was on our lap and I gave him his own spoon - straight in his mouth and trying to grab my food - so cute. Digital recorder all loaded and ready for the mess
Happy long weekend - be back tomorrow :)
Amy - that sounds just awful you poor thing! Glad Bethany is on the mend! Oh and I googled RSV cos I didn't know what it is either- Respiratory syncytial virus (link).
SamiH - tehehe so cute from Z re the food. I think X isn't ready, but yesterday I had MG at my place and one girl bought chocolate snowballs (you know, the marshmallow things) and X kept STARING at them. Was hilarious... mebbe he wants solids now after all!
Katones - woo hoo for overalls & a successful night! Good luck with the less hours too - how many do you want?
Tanya - when we did a early parenting class (all about settling stuff) I came home mad keen to implement it, and nothing worked at ALL for the first day or so. So hang in there hun, good luck with it. Great that you get some follow-up and chance for more question.
I've got the IL's coming over this mornign (all the neighbourhood dogs have a regular sat morning play) then it's garage time! Hard rubbish collection on monday and my garage SOOOOOO needs a clean out. DH's back is bad atm, so him & MIL are on baby duty while I get into the cobwebs! And finally after DH has been snoring SO loudly all week I actually was so stuffed last night I fell asleep before him and got a good night's sleep. At last phew!
Oh and a teething question. We keep thinking X is teething... then he's not... then he is! His teeth on the top are very visible in the front of the gum IYKWIM (a friend yesterday who has an older child) thought they weren't far away at all. But the fact they're very visible, does that mean anything? I can't tell so much with the bottom gum, cos his little slobbery tongue always comes out to cover it! Plus last night he was waaaaaay grumpy, big red rosy cheeks, drooly and not a happy camper, jan! And he's munching on his hands, but he's always been a fist muncher anyways so I ignore that.
hope everone has a great long weekend! We only realised it was a long weekend on Thursday lol.
belfie - i can see Zanders top teeth sitting there under the gums too - but no i don't that necessarily means they are close - close could be 6 weeks or 3 months!
With the bottom teeth, try the glass on his gums trick i posted earlier - i can see zanders now one teensy bit is cutting - but yes they do have symptoms that waiver - so he certainly could be all drooly and cranky and redcheeked and ear pulling etc for a day or two, then nothing for a couple and then sore again .... Riley was such a cool dude though I didn't know he was teething until after they had cut
Z just had some rice cereal - he thought it was so funny cos everyone was sitting around him, the kids wanted to have a go puttin gthe spoon in his mouth - so he didnt swallow much of course and pushed it around his mouth and out - but like anything it takes practice. He did a big poo about 30 mins after so will just need to keep an eye on that - but seems happy enough ... all recorded for prosperity :)
Off to watch the ACT bmx championships and for some sunshine!
I am also organising Giselle's 4th birthday party - the busy-ness just never ends.
Have a great long weekend.
OMG..i have the demon child!!!!!
put teething/constipation and waking at 4am together and screaming and you have JACK!!!!! this went on til nearly 5am when DH said i am getting his bottle NOW!!!! he drank it happily went to sleep then was awake at 8.15am!!!!
still no poo and it is near 3pm!!!!!
he HAS to sleep tonight!!!!! or my eyes are going to bungy!!!!!
he also has to poo soon!!!! or it will be suppository heaven....
We're having fun here listening to lots of crying and screaming. :( Maya's not liking the new routine. Though she also cried a lot with the old one. So now I'm just confused and have no idea what to do. I keep wondering if the new settling techniques will actually work or not?!
Poor Maya also has the most awful nappy rash. She's had slight nappy rash at times but it's really bad now.
amy - What a scare! Glad Bethany is OK now.
belfie - The new settling seemed to work great for the first day and now it doesn't seem to work at all. How long did it take to work for X? Now I wish I'd started much earlier. I wish they taught this stuff at hospital.
katones - Hope Jack is better.
Gotta go.. she's up and needs a feed. Hi to everyone I missed!
Hi all,
Just a quick one, V is getting a bit unsettled so must go and feed her.
Tanya - Just an idea for you to try on Maya's nappy rash. Try sudocream and put some curerash powder on after you put the cream (ontop of it), has always worked for me. I do it every nappy change for V, but used to do the same with my last 2 DD"s as well. I first tried it when one of my DD's had a bad nappy rash and it cleared up practically over night. You can only do it like that though if the rash isnt blistery. Another thing to try which my GP had me try with my oldest DD was put vaseline on it and that keeps the urine away from the rash so that it can heal. Hope her bottom gets better soon. hugs
Amy: That sounds horrible! I'm worried that I wouldn't catch something like that because I am whatever the other extreme is from a hypochondriac. I'm trying to be more sensitive to Jude's health, since he can't tell me if he's sick. He was really upset the other day and was folding his ear in half and sticking his finger in his ear so we took him to the GP but there was nothing wrong ... now I'll never know if I should take him to a doctor or not.
Tanya: I use sudocream for nappy rash, it's very good.
Sami: We started Jude on rice cereal for breakfast and at first I made it runny like the MCHN told us to, but it was stupid and messy, so I made it thick and Jude gobbled it down. He eats as much as I give him ... so I'm not sure how much to make every morning I just keep making more each day.
Jude is setting me a challenge I don't know how to solve. He always wants to call it a day at random times in the afternoon which makes having a bedtime ritual really challenging. I like to feed him, bath him, put him to bed and read him a bed time story before he goes to sleep for 7 or 8 hours, but sometimes he wants to start that long sleep at 2pm and sometimes 5.30pm (or any time in between).
I never know when he's going to crash out for the rest of the day. I want to feed him "dinner" at 6pm and have him asleep by 7pm, but he doesn't want to play by my rules and I can't force him to stay awake once he's decided he wants to sleep, or there's hell to pay. :dunno: So I don't know what to do about that.
Yesterday he went to sleep at midday and woke up briefly for a feed around 4pm!!! and then wanted to go straight back to sleep for the rest of the night, so we woke him up around 7pm for a bath and another feed. It's crazy!! It seems to me that these days he just wants to sleep all day. He's been asleep now for more than 2 hours. If I wake him up he gets cranky. What should I be doing??
Oh good, I hear happy sounds coming from his room. Time for lunch!
*sigh* I've been waiting so long to join a mother's group but they want to keep meeting on Mondays and that's my weekend with my husband and I'm scared they won't want to meet on a different day. I don't know many people here and I was really looking forward to mother's group, and now it's just going pear-shaped. I really need my weekends with my husband. Oh well, maybe my fear is unfounded. Surely they'll understand ... but I do feel like I'm just going to be the problem lady that no one likes.
Sorry, long post. What got into me?
This morning I woke up and realised something was wrong. So I opened my eyes and I realised it was light outside. So I looked at my clock and it was 7.30am!!!!!!!! :o Maya always wakes at night so I freaked out and my DH and I raced to her room and there's the cheeky little girl smiling at us. :) I am so happy to have gotten 7 ish hours of sleep in a row!! I'm trying not to get my hopes up that this will be a regular thing cos I know at her age they aren't meant to sleep through the night yet. But gosh it would be nice if she did that regularly. :)
As for nappy rash - I do use sudocream but this time the rash just kept getting worse and worse. :( I bought some other cream, can't remember what off the top of my head, and that seems to be helping. csab - Thanks for the tip about Vaseline I might try that. The rash is still there but looking a lot better than it was. I wonder if part of the problem is that I used some Bepathanon when it was starting to get bad (I'd never tried it before and had a little sample tube) and I think she had an allergic reaction to it because suddenly the rash was HEAPS worse. I won't be using that cream again!
kuraiza - The woman I had over from Tweddle said until they are 6 months old you can't have a scheduled timetable of when they go to bed each night. She said you need to look at a day as 24 hours not night time and day time exactly (though of course there's a point at which you want them to sleep longer at night and less in the day). I know a lot of others here and at my mother's group have set bed times and I was trying to have one too, but I've given up on it for now and will readdress it in a months time when she's 6 months. Another thing she said is not to let Maya go more than 4 hours during the day without a feed. But she's not sleeping as long as Jude so I haven't come across a problem where I've had to wake her. Don't know if that is of any help to you...
As for mother's group why can't you just tell them your situation and ask if they are happy to move it to another day? We moved ours to a day when everyone was happy. :)
Hi all been extremely busy in the past few days and had a very sad weekend this weekend. We took our cat to the Vet on Friday as he had lost a lot of weight and we got a call yesterday morning at 8am and they said that he had really bad kidney disease and maybe bone marrow cancer so we had to make the hard decision to put him to sleep and then explain to the older boys that he wouldn't be coming home. It was such a sad day.
Julian has decided that he will roll over when he is sleeping and then wakes up screaming that he is on his belly and the last two nights he has been waking at strange hours in the early morning and then wanting a feed which is unusual and he won't resettle he wants a feed and he wants it now :).
hugs xoxo
Tanya - try the curash baby powder for nappy rash and see if that helps.Try and let her have a fair bit of nappy free time, just lay some sheets or towels down under her.
