belfie - when riley was around 11 months he broke out in hives we think from dog or cat fur at a friends house - pharmacist worked out the dosage for us for Phenergan. Now I know the thinking has changed with phenergan so get the pharmacist to work out the safe dose for Polaramine - it was over 6 years ago after all.
thanks SamiH. The pharmacist wouldn't give me anything, said everything has now been restricted to over 1's because of SIDS risks. We're off to the doc this arvo to see if we can get to the bottom of it and also get some meds in case.

do you think food, product or environment related? do they make him sad :(

I think maybe food??? He's been having plenty of new things over the last few weeks and LOTS more food (he's gone from 2 tsp to about 3-4 tbs), plus the cat/dog situation hasn't changed ALL that much. Only common theme from the last 2 days is sweet potato & my DH said when he googled it he found other similar cases getting hives from sweet tato. And ALL food makes him sad a bit - he's not thrilled by it :rolleyes: i think we might have to re-test some foods and document reactions a bit more I guess. His sleep has been all over the shop over the last week or so - which is probably related.
Oh and also the pharmacist suggested that zyrtec would probably be the least risky option we just need the doc to assess risk vs benefit I guess... apparently the dose for 1 yo is based on 10kg so we're pretty close to that at 9.7kg which might help.
Otherwise I'll just express for another 5 years :rofl: :doh::doh::doh:
Poor little man - and mummy for sleeping issews :( Thats why i thought calamine just to dab on them if they are making him itchy, without taking anything internally - but yeah ask the doc so he can assess they def are hives and mebbe he hasnt been bitten by something.
Well done on the food!! Tell him to have a talk to my Z man will you? He loves exploring but not much actually goes down:rolleyes:
Well talk about scary - the other day at the supermarket DS1 - anaphylactic to peanuts and most tree nuts - we were in fruit and vegie section, I turn around, and he is playing with pistachio nuts in their shells - they dont look like true nuts and are green etc - I cried out to stop - we ran and washed his hands, when I told him they were nuts he was so upset the poor darling. He was fine, but I was watching him like a hawk to make sure he didnt put his fingers in his mouth - the worrying thing was the peanuts which is the BIGGIE were right next to them in their shells - phew!! Always gotta be on the lookout.
Zander has been sleeping ok again until 4am when he wants to be fed, but he still goes back to sleep until 7ish - but I think he wakes and it has gotten cold by that time of the morning ...
Bottle and the Z man are still not friends - gunna try a straw today instead and see. he doesnt ever feed for comfort or fall asleep on the boob, so if he takes it he should be fine - and then I wont have to worry about getting him off the bottle tehehehehe.

A quick me post cos I've gotta take Maya for her 8 month appointment soon. I'm trying out a new health centre cos the nurses at my old centre were all crap! It's a shame because I like the idea of being walking distance to a MCHC but I want a nurse I can trust and can talk to! Anyway, fingers crossed this nurse will be good! And hopefully Maya's weight is OK. I get nervous every time I take her for a weigh. I'm reminding myself that these will be different scales and so her weight could be anything, even less than before if the scales are badly calibrated.
I was feeling a bit better yesterday but today have woken up with a full on cold! :cry: I feel terrible. And on top of that.. AF arrived for the FIRST time! So I'm not a happy gal at the moment. :( I wanna crawl back in bed and put my head under the covers. But after my appointment I have my MIL coming for a visit.
Oh and the info session went well yesterday. Though I found it tough leaving Maya with my mum, cos my mum has no idea what to do with her. M didn't sleep the whole time I was gone so she was sooooooo tired and grumpy when I got home. I think she really missed me. And I missed her! At the same time I enjoyed being amongst adults for a few hours and I think I sold myself well. They are going to contact me soon about the work. :)

Just a quicky from me. I'm using my sisters computer, I can't get service at my in laws place.
BJ was great on the drive down. No probs. Though he's not going to sleep during the days. We have to rock him or put him in the pram or the car. We're just doing whatever we need to whilst away & will deal with the consequences when we get home.
Good news however, his BFing is going great. He's having 5 or 6 really good feeds. Yay!
So busy catching up with all our friends. Can't wait for the baptism this sunday. Bj looks adorable in his white suit.

csab - thanks for your well wishes too. I enjoyed reading your updates, and forgot to reply earlier, oops. What do you think is the nicest age gap between bubs? I'm pretty sure i"ll have another. Occasionaly on a bad day I think nuh... but mmm love bubses just too much to stop at 1, and lol i'm a spring chicken only 35 :p
And I'm repeating from elsewhere... but... we've been to the GP who thinks the hives are dermographia... I guess I shouldn't be surprised, as I have the same thing! X's big breakout just presented a little differently to mine (which is quite minor these days and barely bothers me) . We've been referred to the Allergy Clinic at the RCH but apparently that may take a long time to get into. And in the interim, soothe him with something cool on it (sorbolene) or a cold compress... but no antihistamines hmm we'll see how we go. If it goes the way it was, I'll be trying to find another dr in the interim! But he's been a bit better, sleeping better, and just getting a bit itchy/blotchy of an evening, but nowhere near as bad. So I guess we'll just wait and see. Lucky X huh, ezcema from daddy & dermotagraphia from mummy is bottom of the barrel from both sides!
But our big win for the week... I am SOOOOOOO excited :dance: is that he's finally started opening his mouth for solids!!!!!

I couldn't believe it this morning, his little mouth opened, bird-like for each mouthful. He's taken about 7 tbs today (that's HUGE for us!) - I am SO pleased. Every feed I was just over the moon cos I think I half thought it was a fluke & would disappear. It used to be a battle to get every spoonful in... so hopefully we'll be onto mushier textures & finger foods sooner rather than later. YAAAAY!

Belfie - Thinking about the age gaps, I think both have their advantages and disadvantages. With the boys being 4yrs apart they seem to fight/argue all the time due to the age gap and also being in different stages of their lives, yet as they both become adults I am hoping for them to be closer. I do however believe most of their troubles with each other is the older is shorter than the younger one, both different builds and the older one is a tad jealous of that. The younger one likes to rub it in his face. The good side of the age gap is being able to give each of them the time they needed as babies as one was at pre school, if that makes sense, also only having to change one nappy and everything else that goes along with having one at pre school and one baby at home. With the closer age gap, 13mths my two girls, they were so much like twins, they are very close, still fight/argue but still close, they play the same games and have similar interests, also they learned of each other in certain things and had both of them fully toilet trained at the same time (night time). Downside was having to babies needing all the attention, they make more mess, always picking up after them, sometimes I wonder where the mess came from. They seem to be more wild than what my boys were. They always want the same things as the otherone gets jealous if they have different to the other. Ohh yeh and argghhhhh the mess!!!!!! Ohh and when they were younger needing to have a double pram, so if you ever end up having a baby close in age, think seriously about the pram you want, as alot of places dont have enough room for you to wheel a side by side pram, the tandums are better as they are one seat in front of the other so the width of a single pram. Just a tip to think about. If I think of something else, I will mention it. hehehe Poor little X, I hope he recovers soon from it. What a shame poor little man to get it from both sides. Woohoo on the solids eating, well done little X. hugs

Well V is sound alseep atm, has abit of the sniffles, once again. Have DD2 at home today once again with the flu. DS1 is going to be in our local paper soon, as his school put him forward as he made a short film that they were all impressed about. He has won an award for it too thru the education dept, as their was a competition with the schools in NSW ACT, however not sure where he has come as we wont know until the presentation day in October. This is my son that is doing his HSC this yr.
csab - omg wow 13 mths that is close. That's interesting about the larger age gap, I don't think we'd ever go that big a gap only cos of my age. But it's interesting cos DH & his 2yr younger bro are very competitive... but I guess it depends on their personalities and lots of things, i.e. the height difference. Ideally (ha!) we'll have a 2 year gap (and stop with 2 ). I've got a P&T sports but I'm about to upgrade it to the vibe (with the doubles kit of course) so that should work ok. Congrats to DS1 that's awesome! :clap:
Teru - so sorry to hear about the egg & milk allergy! Has finding out helped with the eczema at all?
Woohoo.. Maya put on another 250 grams (in a month). So she's now 6.250. :) I'm just so relieved that she's growing again.
The MCHN was great. So I might stop looking for a new one. I posted up about finding a new MCHN and got a few responses. One of them sounded really really good, but it's further away. And I was happy with the one I saw yesterday. Oh and I find it really funny that different councils run their MCHC differently. I've tried 3 different ones all in different councils now. In the new council they are really big on BLS (the nurse signed me up for a talk next week) and they have heaps of other info sessions and lots of extra help available. Hmm.. maybe I should move over the border. ;)
Sami - Yay on Z's teeth coming through. :) I've stopped looking for M's teeth. They are ALL just sitting under the gums (with one a little bit poking out but has sat like that for months!). The MCHN checked M's gums yesterday and said that her teeth are just about to pop out.. and I mumbled.. 'they've been about to pop out for months now!" hehe.. ah well.. I guess they'll come when they are ready. And it probably has helped with the b/f not having them there to bite me with. ;)
csab - Maya is doing so well again now, which is such a relief. She is still small compared to other babies we see but she's such a capable girl. How is V going with her feeding? Is there likely to be a problem with V's hips or the U/s is just precaution? And sorry to hear about your sick kids but how exciting about your eldest son being in the paper and winning an award. :)

Well.. I'm still sick. :( Feeling lousy with chesty cold + AF. All hormonal and emotional too. :cry: Ended up getting upset with DH last night for no real reason. I'm going out to dinner tonight with mums from my new mums group and I'm going to drag myself out cos I think it's a great opportunity to socialise and get out. I just might have to have a shorter night though.

Daddy took him off to the Drs this morning..as i had a 1st aid course that i couldn't get out of...all good....got a script for anti-biotics...and only to give it to him in the next 24hrs IF he gets worse.... so we shall see....but in all honesty..i think he will be starting on them tomorrow....still waiting on his 4th tooth to fully come through...it has popped through only slightly....
He is now pulling himself up to standing....and thinks he is very clever....and will let go whilst standing and playing...only to suddenly realise he isn't holding on then grabs a hold of anything within reach!!
fluff - How's Jack doing?? Hope he's better.
I had a great time on Friday night - dinner and drinks with the mums from my mums group. After dinner they went to a bar but I headed home. Then woke up on Saturday feeling so much worse. :cold: I think I am finally on the mend now!
I talked to Maya's paed today and she wants me to keep giving her a dream feed and to offer more snacks and more food. :wall: Until I talked to the paed today I was really happy with M's weight gain and growth. But the paed reckons it's still too low. :( But I can't force her to eat any more and I don't like the idea of offering snacks because it takes so long to feed her each time and then our whole day will become about eating only! So I don't know what to do at the moment.

teru - I do feed Maya when I eat at breakfast, lunch and dinner. :) And each time it takes half an hour to one hour to feed her. So she's up and eating and then soon back to bed. If I gave her an afternoon snack that would take time out of our only long play together. I've thought about giving her food to snack on while she plays, but 1) it'd be too messy and 2) I don't want her to play and eat at the same time.
So glad to hear D's face is better. :)

Are other people's babies getting upset when you leave the room or turn around? It's been going on for weeks and weeks now. I can't even turn around cos Maya will start crying cos she thinks I'm leaving.
M's also getting really frustrated by the fact that she can't move forward. :( But I can't think of anything I can do to help her. Is there anything I can do to help her learn to crawl??

Well....i weighed Jack this afternoon...10.40kgs :o any wonder why my arms are killing me!!!!
He has started clapping hands, will even do it when i say 'clap hands Jack' and waving to himself in the mirror....such a vain boy i have....must take after daddy..hehehe Jack will happily sit for AGES looking at himself smiling....and when i say ages i mean something like 20mins+
