Babies Born October 1st ~ 15th 2008 #2

kuraiza..hun i am right there with ya!!!!!
i was yesturday about to rip my hair out...by last night i was a blubbering mess.. and was NOT about to have NO sleep at all last night...so Jack is back co-sleeping at night...he slept from 1opm last night till 6am :D
this morning he fed at 10 and slept til around 12.40ish..was resettled twice in that time and EVERY time i heard him on the monitor i went in and put my hand on him and he settled (didn't wake was just stirring) he fed around 1 and i have just put him down in his cot for a sleep.
I have just today resorted back to 3hourly feeds during the day...last feed at night around 10...so we shall see how things go...
i even rang Karitane yesturday..for some help.. and ende up in a blubbering mess on the phone with them...

Well at the risk of jinxing myself for the rest of the day things have been pretty good so far!! We had to head in to the city for the Post Natal diabeties thingy, cause of the GD. Basically it was an hour of now you have had GD you are at risk for type 2, so make life style changes. Lots of scary stats. Bethany fussed the WHOLE time so I guess she wasn't too keen on the stats either. :rolleyes: Thankfully she settled to sleep in her pram for me to go to the shops have some lunch pick up a few things and know she is in her cot snoozing in the air con! She has upped her feeds big time the pass few days, the can says that at 8 weeks you can start giving 180mls. I have been offering a bit more each feed cause 120 to 180 seems a huge jump!! The last few though she has done the whole 180. Piggy. I have noticed though that with the self settling now she sleeps deeper so is more awake at playtime and hence more active maybe it all ties in??

Kuraiza~~ I hope the visit with the psych helps. I have weekly psych visits because I am high risk of PND, I have a pre exsitsing mental illness, BiPolar. I had a pretty big bout of Antenatal depression but things are pretty good so far, but I have my bad days!! Who doesn't? I guess I just have to watch myself closer because of the bipolar, an episode can last months and that is not a good thing with a baby! I have found this to be sooooooooo helpful though, when I feel overwhelmed I just log on and see that there are atleast 3 other women feeling the same thing at the same time!! Anyway I meant to encourage you but ended up talking about me. So I'll send you a :hug:

Amy_o... i have to book in for my 6-8 weeks post baby GD test too... just have to pull my finger out...

touch wood.. jack has been great so-far today!!! and i think it was going back to 3hourly feeds.. i will slowly stretch them out and get him sleeping longer..well thats my plan!!! he is laying on the floor as i type looking at the tv :D

Mia's oral thrush doesnt seem to be going away which means shes not sucking. She will down about max 50mls in her bottle and its just too sore to suck anymore. So off to the chemist i went. Got some more Nilstat and some baby panadol. Just gave her a dose of panadol and shes sound asleep and sucking on her dummY! she wasnt sucking on thaat either coz of the pain. Poor little munchkin. So it has been a rough couple of days. I went and got some heinz nurture formula too so ill give that a go.. was only $18 and after i brought it i seen it at big w for $12.. oh that always happens. The BFing seems to be phasing out. Frankly with all her other issues atm i just dont have time! We will see how it goes. Mum wants me to try the NAN formula but i can only find it in the GOLD variety, does it come in a normal one??????

anyway off to have a veg in front of the telly.. or not.. shes awake again.. ho hum

Ashley is now on the amcal brand of formula - well until this tin is finished then it will be straight cows milk.

katones - i would let bub feed more frequently during the day so he will be full by night time otherwise he may get into a 4 hrly feed cycle and will wake for those over night?

NOPE it only comes in the GOLD... that is what we are using.. our Paed said if formula is the way to go that is about the closest to breast milk with all the added pro-biotics etc in it....

PP Jack is taking 120mls per feed... i have put him on 3hrly during the day and we are back to co-sleeping at night for now... and when he co-sleeps he sleeps from 10pm-6am :D

Just in case you wanted to know I was a NAN raised baby, can't tell you what it tasted like though or if it was good....don't remember!! LOL :rofl: Bethany is on S26 just cause that is what was being used in SCBU when she was in so I figured we would stick to what she already knew.
I just put some christmas things up!! I feel almost festive....almost. Got a sweet christmas outfit for Bethany, just need to find the strength to face the day with the in laws.........

Itsme - Dh and myself don't go out often but when we do I don't rush I just take my time and when Iwe get there we get there. With twins you can never be sure what time your going to get to your friends place ect.

I went shopping for the first time by myself last week with the twins and lily. They were fine in the shopping centre as I feed them before I left But on the way home Sam cried and cried.

Kuraiza - so glad it was addressed, but sad for you that the clinic didn't follow-up considering they put you in the high risk category! I do understand about having no support - we moved here when DS1 was 6 weeks old then DH went to Iraq after a week for 3 months! My saviour was mothers group - and I am still close to 5 of the original starters! I hope you find the support I did when your group starts

Hollye - Mia and Zander must be so opposite! You wrote that you just don?t have the time with everything else to b/f - I don't have the time not to! Zander only takes 10 - 15 minutes to feed (I have tried everything to see if he will take more- nup he just closes up shop and hops off the boob!) - so if I had to do bottles with sterilizing etc I would be more time poor than I am now. I am attracted to bottles though for a selfish reason - so I can see how much he takes cos I have no idea and still doubt he gets enough ? but he is a happy enough little fella so must be ok ?

Katones - quick question which is gunna sound reeeeeally ignorant and dumb - don't you kinda demand feed when FF? You wrote Jack is on 3 hourly feeds and you are trying to stretch them out so I was just wondering ? I haven't FF fully a bub under 6 months so don't know.

Amanda - yeah I think I will justhave to go with the flow. Zander doesn't get upset very much so I don't really wanna rock that boat and throw everything into chaos!

Georgi - I settled him in his cot at 5pm tonight for a catnap - which he did for 30 mins, he fed when he got up, and I just fed him (top-up really) at 7pm which he took more than normally and put him down 10 mins ago - however I would still prefer a 3am wakeup to a 5am for me cos if I get up and feed at 5am - means back to bed around 5.30ish but by the time I get to sleep time for me to get up - unless it is the weekend and DH can get up with the kids :) Oh to sleep in .............

PP - hope the kids are feeling better and the bug has left the house!

Hi all.. I had to disrupt Maya's morning nap to go for my 6 week check up and after that I had mothers group. So she's now a very over tired girl, but won't go to sleep. My DH has taken over trying to settle her to sleep! I wish she'd sleep when out and about! It would make my life easier.

Anyway, my check up went well. Everything is healing nicely. And I love having the mothers group to go to every Wednesday. It gets me out of the house and I get to talk to adults and see other babies. One woman today said her baby will only sleep for 1hour maximum at a time and he's now 12 weeks old, so she hasn't slept for longer than 1 hour at a time for 12 weeks! It put things into perspective for me!

belfie - :hug: We should swap phone numbers so we can call each other and cry on the phone to each other when things are tough! :) That's great your neighbour was there to help. I don't have anyone near by who can help me. :(

kuraiza - That's great that you asked for help and got it. :) I think a lot of mothers don't speak up and ask for help when they need it and things just get worse. :hug: You're definitely not alone in your feelings. I feel very alone too and my family is in Melbourne as well as me!

Sami - I know what it feels like to watch someone else have everything done for them! I actually like my ILs, which I know is unusual. But I am so jealous of my SIL cos my MIL is round at her place every chance she gets and does all my SILs housework and looks after the kids while my SIL sits around. Then my SIL complains about how hard looking after her kids is!

To everyone else: Hello! Sorry that's all I can manage for today. *sigh* Maya's still crying and not sleeping!! It's so frustrating because I know she must be so exhausted!! Yet she won't sleep. :wall:

even tho mia is 80% on formula she is still demand feeding. she can have a feed and want more an hour later. So i dont think formula makes a difference in that area.

Mia is feeling a little better.. she had a good 5 hour sleep after i gave her some panadol, which im so happy about coz she was soooooooo overtired. Shes up now but seems so much happier. And she had a huge poo! one of them big explosive ones!

When we went to get all the goodies today to make Mia feel better we went for a big walk. I so need to lose about 50 kilos!!!

I cant wait for the mothers group to start in january.. i feel so alone.

Hollye - My mothers group starts in January as well and there is also a local playgroup that is at the same place we go to see the MCHN. I can't wait to get out and meet some mums and bubs from around here. Most of my friends live about 40mins away and don't come to visit very often. So I understand when you say how lonely it is.

Ethan is tired (from being up all night no wonder!!!).

MOthers groups are great - especially for those with bubs the same age! :)

Hollye - It's amazing how much happier babies are after a good sleep! I just wish it was easier to get them to sleep when they need it!

Well I'm already having a bad day. Last night we finally got Maya to go to sleep around 8.30pm. Then she woke at 10.30pm, 2am and 6am. Normally she goes back down for a sleep in the morning, but she didn't want to sleep, so I figured that she needed some play time. But she kept crying no matter what I did! I finally fed her again at 8.30am. Normally by that time I've done two feeds not three! Then she was yawning heaps so I tried putting her down for a sleep and I kept having to go to her every few minutes! :wall:

I don't know how any of you manage to settle your babies in their beds! If I try and settle her in bed she just gets louder and louder! So I always have to pick her up and walk around for ages till she goes back to sleep! :wall:

And I find it so hard when she's crying a lot. I start to question everything - is she hungry again? Is she over tired? Does she need play time? Should I persist with trying to put her to bed or play with her or feed her?! I often wonder if I'm doing the wrong thing and that's why it's a battle to get her to sleep!

Ah she's awake again.. gotta go. Hope everyone else is having better days so far!

Hollye my older three boys have all had heinz nuture and they had no problems, no constipation or anything. That's also great that you got to go for a walk, I've also got to lose about 30kgs, but would be happy with 20.

Going to go out later and get a christmas tree and some advent calendars for the older boys, also just to get out and have a look at the shops.

PP.. just a question RE:- ethan's tummy sleeping...

with the monitor, the sensor pads go 'under' the matress right?? do you have an inner spring matress in his cot, using the sensor pads?? and did you have to place plywood on the cot for the sensor pads to go on???

kat - i didnt place plywood down as the slats were quite wide and it covered one slat.
I tested it out lightly pressing the vast corners of the mattress and it detected it fine.

It is the thicken innerspring mattress yes.

yay - i think i am getting a motorised swing for DS!!!!!! woohooooooo

everything pretty good here... Going to lay down an hopefully get atleast an hour shut eye..

I am having such an exhausting day. DD just won't sleep!! But I did a feed at 2.30pm and she fell asleep on my breast. She has now slept for about 15 mins. :dance: So I'm still sitting on the couch with her sleeping on me. I don't want to move cos I know she needs any sleep she can get and I'm sure I'll wake her if I try and get up! Luckily I can reach my laptop, otherwise I'd be stuck on the couch with nothing to do! :)

Itsme i hear ya hun!! Jack is the same.......i fed Jack and held him for abit...then put him in his cot.. and he woke within 15 mins..so i lay on the bed with him and he went back to sleep..so that is where i have left him....this morning he had a 1 1/2-2hrs sleep then woke..i was happy with that sleep..so we shall see how long he takes now to realise i am not laying with him...

Katones - I wish Maya would sleep with me next to her. If I lie her down while awake she starts crying and kicking, even if I'm holding her. :( She just hates being put down to sleep! But she's now slept for nearly an hour on me. Woohoo!! :) Unfortunately I have an appointment at 4.30pm so I'm going to have to disturb her at some point. :(

well it didn't last long :( he is awake AGAIN!!!
anyways we are off to sort out our sleeping issues/settling issues tomorrow... at the hills parenting centre... so we shall see what the outcome is...we are going for a 1/2 day stay.

Katones~ :hugs: you are NOT a failure!!!! Repeat NOT!! Although I can understand the feeling, Bethany pulled an all nighter last night... I really hope the sleep centre works for you. I can't wait to hear how it works out.

Gee I am stuffed this is the first time I have had to sit down. Bethany pulled an all nighter, I think the big storm combined with a busy day out in the mega heat combined for a very over tried little girl. It was a tough night that resulted in me in tears sobbing that I just can't be a mum and we should return her. DH was there and assured me there is no return policy. :) She seems back to normal with her sleep today so here's hoping. I managed to grab a quick nap but I don't want a nap I want a sleep!!! I am pretty happy a super organised mum from the new mother group I went to has organised a get together next week so we can plan how we are going to continue on. The health center runs the meeting for 5 weeks with discussion and information and then it is up to each "group" what happens I am sure not everyone will stay on but I am glad some are. It will be good to have the regular activity and contact.
Well I am going to get dinner started then I can lie down and sleep and it will be ready when I want to eat

Katones: I can tell you you're not a failure, but I always feel like a failure too. Why is this baby stuff so difficult?

I don't want to jinx it or speak too soon, but I think I might have discovered a bit of a breakthrough.

Jude's room has crap curtains and is quite bright during the day. I draped a red and black sarong over the mobile-hanger bar on his bassinet, so it makes a tent. This morning he went back to sleep after his 7-8am feed and slept til midday (and so did I). Then I went for a walk with him in my sister's hand-me-down baby bjorn and I sat in a cafe and had chai and read the paper while he slept. WOW.

When we got back I fed him again and put him back in the bassinet. He grumbled a bit but settled reasonably easily under the tent. I think the red and black is very womb-like.

Fingers crossed he sleeps for a bit now. I have some housework to do. Fingers doubly crossed this isn't just a good day and I really found something that works.

Katones, dont worry im feeling like a failure aswell. She has been screaming and i mean screaming at me for the past hour and i had NOOOO idea what was wrong with her :(

So as u could imagine.. im over it atm..

Aaaw hugs to the ladies who are having bad days! NONE of you are failures, you're all doing such a brilliant job! Ok so maybe baby isn't settled, but it doesn't make you a bad mum at all! Gosh if that did, then there would be no good mums anywhere!

My week has been busy but better. My boofer boy had his 8 week check (even tho he is actually closer to 9 weeks ) - he's now 75th percentile for height & weight :o weighing in at a roly-poly 5.8kg, plus he's grown 9cm in 9 weeks!!! It's a big change from 25th percentile at 2 weeks!

We also went to an Early Parenting course tonight at our hossie - it was brilliant! Realised why we've been getting more unsettled time during the day (we've been basically over-feeding him - um yeah... that weight gain tehehe) and got heaps of great settling tips and stuff.. and just info we hadn't realised! So saying, we're very lucky and he's been pretty much back to his usual self now. Oh and the pump got swapped so mummy's milk factory is back in business.

Oh and my mother's group starts in Dec, I can't wait for it to start!!!

Hollye~~ DH assured me again that there is no returns...Although I am thinking someone broke in to our house took my good baby and replaced it with this one...although they look the same....mmm can't explain that.

Am still soooo tried, this heat and humidity is doing me in and I wish I could get my iron count back up surely that would help too. In the meantime I am on strike today. I will cook tea for DH when he comes home but the rest of the house can wait, Bethany can get fed and changed and we will have play times but thats it!!! My brain is in overload I can't deal with any thing else.

Hi everyone

This is gunna sound a bit cliche, but alot of you sound really down and blue at the moment. It really does get easier - just remember you can't get this time back again and enjoy your baby whilst they are still a baby - they grow so fast :D

Zander had his 2 month shots today - :crying: it is only the second time I have seen him have real tears - I felt so mean. None of my kids have had reactions as such, but he does seem a bit unsettled, crying every couple of minutes as he is drifting off to sleep - but I will try and keep the paracetomol for night time if possible. I left my sling in our other car which DH has taken to Sydney so am cursing that too.

belfie - how have you been over feeding him re making him unsettled?? I didn't think you could reaaaaally overfeed a bf bub - he is mainly bf still - is it the foremilk thingy? Has Xander had his immunisations?

I weighed Zander at the clinic this morning - he is 5.5kg - which is 400g in two weeks so still doing well. He is 62cms long - which is 9cms from birth length too!

We all had a good night - he fed aroudn 3am and back to bed by 3.30 and up again at 7am with the other kids. Not bragging, but he really is an easy going little fella, but he has to be really being #3.

SamiH - i was always educated the same that you cant overfeed a BF bub? maybe you can? BUt if he is hungry then isnt he hungry? i feed and feed Ethan lol so he wont want more for a few hours!

I am not looking forward to the shots. More so that i have to take ashley at the same time for her 18 months as well. And i wil have 2 screaming kids. at 2 months it is easy to hold them but omg 18 months they are strong!!!


Amy_o lol at your DH! is he sure. You know if one thing had taught me well working with sick children, that a little crying and unsettleness - even if it is 12 hours a day sometimes like with ethan.. is fine by me as i am so blessed that my baby has no serious health problems! so i say let him be upset if he wants to.


Belfie - yay for your classes. I wanted to go to ours at our local child health centre but they told me that my daughter wasnt welcome as it is for mothers and babies (she is still ababy in my eyes at 18 months). And i explained that i dont have care for her and they said well she cant come to the class :( boo to them i say! lol

And yay for a chubba bubba! i guess i will find out in 2 weeks what ethan is weighing.. but he is growing so fast!! i can tell!

HOllye - i find if i have fed, burped and changed Ethan and he still screams for an hour it is because he wants to poo... it is dreadful but i just have to comfort him and once the explosion happens he is so much more settled. It is amazing what 1 little poo can do to a baby!!

Cant wait to see the xmas dress pics today btw! she is going to look so cute! I put my tree up yesterday ... shhhh early but i wanted to!

Kur - how are things - when is your appointment?

As for the curtains. It is probably good that they are not too dark so he can get used to sleeping in day and night. rather than confusing him . I have the curtains and windows open and have Ethan next to the window during the day so he has short naps and darkness at night so he knows it is time to sleep solidly!

Kat - how is the sleep school going. Have been thinking of you babe! post some pics of that gorgeous boy in his mcns for me! Ethan is slowly growing in to the BBB - not looking so uncomfy today! lol
Itsme! -Great news on the check up. I keep thinking i should have gone to mine but i couldnt be bothered lol. i didnt with Ashley either! oops... need to look at contracpetion... but dont want to take hormones! options....???

We are looking into a laptop too so i dont have to come into the study! and i can sit on the couch without DD screaming at me for being in here lol

PP - I told my hubby after DS1 that he was taking any other kids to their 4yo shots! i will probably have my DD's 4yo and Zanders 6mo at the same time - I think some big bribes will be in order :lol:

I would never return her anyway she is too sweet! And thanks for the reminder PP, cranky fussy babies are nothing as long as they are healthy. I am blessed, I think I lose sight of it though when I am tired. :) I don't mind admitting I seriously underestimated motherhood! Its been a tough week all round really. I had 2 people give me a hard time about bottle feeding (one a random person at a shopping centre phooy to them but the other a diabeties educator...not so nice.) I also need to deal with the news from my doc, it is easy to shove it in the later pile but I almost feel like I need to grieve...sounds so silly, I have a beautiful baby that is so much more than so many get but to know there are no more after her, that is hard.
Anyway I can hear the said beautiful baby crying so I am off for now!

I think everyone says that but when you seen them 3-12 months and how much they change and grow and the laughs and crawling... oooh your heart will melt again!!

its just this 'leech' stage lol as i call it (all feed feed feed and no reward back!)... that is hard.

Its ok, I think I quickly mentioned it a few days back, don't feel bad. We will look in to fostering I think once Bethany is a bit older. Even adoption if we can go down that road, I would love to have more children in our home even on a non permenant bases. It was just a shock to hear I guess. I mean I am young and healthy and meant to be able to do this again...And of course people are already asking when the next one is!! I think for now it is all a bit numb if that makes sense. I could go on for pages about the mixed emotions!!

As for smiles, she will smile when she wants to, but have got a few, melts the heart. I was holding her last night I was watching telly so wasn't really talking to her, besides she was supposed to be winding down for sleep and I just just happened to glance down at her and there she was just gazing up and me with this wonderful smile, wish I could have caught it on camera. It was one of the most perfect moments ever in my life. Ok that is the mushy stuff done for now.
