Marion - I really strugged with feeding Ashton those first few days as well as all he wanted to do was sleep, would get on the breast have a few sucks then fall asleep again. I would have to tickle him to get him to wake up enough to get back on and then 5 mins later he would be asleep again. Hang in there !!

Well 1 very tired and headachy mummy here today. Lachlan has been a brat too as well but he is currently asleep now, pity i have to wake him soon to go and get Kameron.
Hoping Ashton has a nice weight gain tomorrow so I can stop waking him during the night to feed. That way I might get more sleep as well.

Hi all!!!
Havent had a chance to read throught the thread but just wanted to ask the mods a question...Am I allowed to have my details added to the front of this Baby Buddy group even though Asha was born 27th Sept? I did email Nat about it & read her email in a blur at some ungodly hour during a feed & now have no idea when she told me !!!
I really want to be in this BB group because all these gals were in my preggy buddy group!
-
Hi skyelar
Cause she was born in sept your details will have to go into sept. But we are not stopping you from posting across both threads. I am in the same boat, as Ashton is menat to be a Nov baby :) but gives me a good chance to get to know the Oct girls as they filter in.

Hey girls... on another mod note... as hopefully I will be giving birth in the next week or so... if you need anything, please email one of the other mods if you haven't gotten a response from me in a few days ;)

Hi all :)
Just wanted to pop in and say a quick hello here. I had a baby boy on the 10th after a 5 hour labour, things were very hectic and didnt go as planned afterwards but he is getting there now and on his way to full health. We called him Antoni William, he weighted in at 6 pound 7 oz :)
Look forward to sharing this journey with you all
-
Hi Karlee
Congratulations on the birth of Antoni !! Look forward to getting to know you and Antoni better :)

Just a quick Ashton update -
Midwife has been and he has put on 80g in 3 days. He is now 100g off his birth weight. They will come back on Monday to check him one last time :)

Kathryn, great to hear Ashton is nearly back to this birth weight!
Not much happening here. Not even getting sleep because Charlie feeds all the time. He's such a piggy! Bit worried that he's constantly hungry.
-
great to hear from you Kate.
Last night I let Ashton wake me up instead of me waking him up and he was whinging around every 3 hours anyway probably just a bit longer, so his body must be into that 3hrly routine now. He was stressing me a bit yesterday cause he wasn't feeding for very long, but he did okay throught the night. Have to remember that he is prem and the midwifes did say that he may get sleepy again at some stage.
I can't believe he is 2wks old today !

Kathyrn~ good to hear ashton is gaining weight
Kate~ U must be a very busy girl with the 2 girls i think anyone who can do that is GREAT i couldnt do it thats for sure im struggling and my boy is 5!! I thought i would join this group as i enjoyed chatting with all the OCT Belly buddies!:)
Me~ well i have stopped BF now as i hated it we got thrush and just couldnt get rid of it and it was painful but jaxen is so much better on the bottles really settled and he seems satisfied after bottle where as he seemed hungry all the time on the boob and my other boy was being really naughty when i was feeding him as it took over and hour to feed it was just to stressfull so im much happier now!
Hi:hello: to Tegan, Skylar, Melanie, Karlee, Marion & anyone else i may have forgotten!!
-
Hi all. Glad to hear that all is going well.
Kate, we haven't used a dummy for either boy. Jack wouldn't take one and never needed it anyway (he slept well and never really cried). I haven't tried Thomas with one because Jack was so good without one and I don't want to create a problem with having to get up to "replug" as you say. I have considered it on his bad nights, but I don't think it would help. When he is screaming in pain he won't suck on my finger even so probably wouldn't take the dummy. When he's not screaming in pain he's settled and doesn't need a dummy anyway! I have just got some tips from my local ABA counsellor though. With both boys I have had an oversupply of milk and apparently this can cause many of the things Tom is experiencing. By feeding on one side only for 2 consecutive feeds then changing sides for 2 feeds etc this often relieves the problems. So I'll give that a try and see what happens.
You must be finding it even harder getting out then I am. At least Jack walks really well (he was walking at 9 months so is very experienced by now!).
Kathryn, glad to hear that Ashton's weight is doing the right things. Doesn't the time go quickly!
Hi Britney. Sorry to hear that you've had so some problems but hopefully all will be well now.
Tegan, I hope Charlie's feeding settles down. Some of them seem to just feed often. Jack did that but luckily only during the day!
Welcome to Karlee. What a shame you had a difficult start but I hope everything is going well now.
Today is my errands day as Jack is at day care. I have been out all morning and now have a heap of stuff to do around the house then have to pick him up in an hour. Looks like Thursdays are going to be my busiest days and here I was thinking I'd get a rest day once a week!! LOL!!

Hiya Girls
Great to hear everyone is plodding along nicely. Took Ashton to his 2wk health check and he is now 50cm long !! I knew he had got longer. So that is 3cm since birth. Also going by their scales which are bloody old he is 2.7kg so past his birth weight meaning he would have but on 170g in 2 days (yeah right) so I am not even going to get excited by that and just wait till the hospital midwife comes out and weighs him on Monday.
He hasn't had a dummy yet either. Want to try and avoid it if we can as I am not a very big fan of them, but I guess neither of my boys had them for very long anyway. Kam gave his up at 8mths old and Lachlan was 5mths old both gave it up of their own accord.
Going to get back into the cloth nappies soon too, just wait for his little bum to put on a bit more beef ;)
Oh the doctor also said that he is going to be tall cause of his large hands and feet and said that he is very well eqipped downstairs as well if you get my drift. Andrew said "what did he say" so I said "that he will be tall and well hung" my poor doctor just cracked up laughing and was still laughing when we left.

Kate, a tip I got for fast let down is to try a couple of posture feeds (attach bub then lie back so you are lying on your back with bub across your chest). Apparently doing that for a couple of feeds in a row helps. I have the same thing!
-
Hey girls
Thought it was about time I popped in here. Finally feeling a bit more normal today. Still a little bit sore but mainly from those pesky staples pulling. I have them out tuesday thankfully! Apart from that Jasmine is doing wonderfully, feels kinda surreal still and is feeding and sleeping well. Gemma is wonderful with her giving her plenty of hugs and kisses.....so sweet.
-
Yay Kirsty! Great to have you join us here!! It's good to hear that it's all going so well for you.
Kate, btw, when posture feeding it's a good idea to sit up to finish the feed to make sure the breast is drained. Mind you, I do one first thing in the morning as this is supposed to be good for colic too, and we both usually fall asleep so the feed usually doesn't get finished for an hour or 2!! Also, how are you going with the one side feeding? You need to be a bit careful of engorgement on the other side until your supply settles.
I've been trying these things myself and have had one good night and one bad one since, so I'm not sure if it's helping yet. I'm going to persist for the moment though as I don't think it's supposed to work instantly. I think the next step after this is to try and eliminate foods from my diet but that can take weeks also (most things apparently take 6 weeks to be out of your system!!). We did try the dummy last night in desperation but he wouldn't take it anyway and not long after he settled well without it!
-
Welcome Kirsty & Emma !!
We are plodding along nicely here. Ashton fed around 9pm last night and never woke up again till 1am, but he never actually woke up, the dog woke me barking at something so I went into his room and he was stirring so I got him up and fed him. Was back in bed just after 1.30 as he is still only doing 15 min feeds from each side and the next thing I knew it was 7am (had not moved the clock forward to compensate for DLS at that stage) and he hadn't cried or anything. So he went 6 hours without being fed and even at 7am I had to physically wake him up to feed as he was still sound asleep. Only woke him cause my boobs were bursting at the seams LOL.
So fingers crossed I have another child that likes his sleep. Both the other 2 boys slept through the night constantly from 14wks old.

Welcome Emma and Gaby! I'm looking forward to reading your update.
Kathryn, how wonderful that Ashton is sleeping for longer now. Jack was always a great sleeper too. So far Tom hasn't been so good but I'm hoping that will change once we've resolved (or outgrown??) the wind issues.
Kate, I hope Rylee settles for you. Reflux is not pleasant for bub or mum and dad so I hope that's not it. Let us know how you go at the GP. Remember to look after yourself!!
-
welcome back emma and kristy and congrats to you both!
-
Thanks for the welcome everyone!
Wow Emma our bubs were close in weight....Jazz weighed in at 8lb3oz but shes a bit longer than Gab. Glad to hear your doing well after your c/s. I'm on nurofen plus and boy do I notice the difference.....not so painful now!!
Hmmm haven't counted my staples yet Kate. I had my first look at them last night.(it freaks me out to look and touch them!).They are a bit higher than my last c/s, they actually had to cut in another spot as my old scar had moved!LOL! Love the jelly belly affect!PMSL!
Glad to hear everyones doing so well. We are actually f/f Jazz as I had major b/f issues. Jazz had so much trouble latching on and trying to latch on herself. It was a nightmare. The midwives actually suggestd for both our of our sanity to maybe f/f instead as Jazz was getting very distressed at each feed. Guess I'm the opposite of everything natural. Scheduled c/s and then f/f! Argh well not much I can do about it. As long as we're both happy. Just have to keep telling myself that!!
-
Thats right kirsty! As long as you are both happy. Its not like you haven't tried or thought about it. I would love for everything to be natural but last time it wasn't possible & am hoping its all good this time. But you can't beat yourself up for it or listen when other people make rash comments on how you should be doing something a certain way.
-
Has anyone got any tips for congestion?
Kirsten can be quite a noisy breather and it sometimes makes it hard for her to feed, we are trying to get her to sleep propped up which helps a little ... its hard listening to her raspy breathing!
She seems well and hungry though..
It doesn't help that she gets all excited when I hold her as she can smell my milk, although she still won't breastfeed, it makes her much more wheezy and windy and she feeds so much better from my hubby!

omg i am so tired! Charlie fed every 2 hours last night and today. Last night he was also on formula, and he was still that hungry. I am BF him during the day and FF at night because he is never satisfied at night with just me. The other night he fed one hour on each boob PLUS had a bottle of formula after and only then was he satisfied! What a piggy.
He's also been having a lot of wind too, I hope he doesn't have colic. Are there any other signs i should look for, for colic?
Oh, check out my new avatar!
Will do personals tomorrow, there he goes screaming again! *yawn*
-
Morning Girls
Please try not to worry about personals. As we all have newborns we all have limited time on the PC at the moment, so it is just nice to hear about you and your baby are doing. You don't have to reply to everyone else as well. I am sure we all totally understand.
Kirsty - Your new Av is going to take some time to get used too LMAO, specially with the brown hair I keep thinking it is a new plat member LOL. As Christy said, you have to do and have done what is right for both you and Jasmine, so please don't beat yourself up about nothing being natural. Just enjoy watching that precious girl of yours thrive that is all that matters.
Emma - Sorry can't help you with the exlusive B/F EBM. My sister in law does it though with her baby and he is now 5mths old. Was Gaby having attachment issues ??
Tegan - sounds like Charlie is loving his food !! OMG at feeding for an hour each side, Ashton is doing 20mins 1 side and 10 the other, it was 15 on both so he might be slowly working his way to longer feeds.
Marion - Is it chest or nasal congestion ?? You can buy snot pullers from the chemist for nasal congestion. Sounds gross i Know but apparently they really do work. If it is chest can you steam up the bathroom or get a steam vapouriser and have that one before going to bed of a night ?
Anyway time is ticking away so I must get the boys ready for kindy/playgroup. Ashton has his next weigh in with the midwifes today.
Love
-
I know Kat, I still don't recognise my av when I'm looking through the posts!LMAO! And Tegan's is different so am going to have to get used to that too!
Little miss slept well again last night, till her 3.30 feed, as she woke again at 5am starving! At least shes feeding well as Gemma was such a nightmare to feed. She feed hourly despite being on formula!
-
Ashton wont get weighed today. Midwife rang just as we were heading out the door to playgroup/kindy to say they are flat out and cause he is feeding well etc could they put us back to tomorrow. Gives him another day to put weight on LOL. I passed him to one of the mums and Kindy who likes to hold him and she said he has definitely got heavier since the last time she held him which was early last week.
Don't know if any of you girls have seen them, but Big W have a travel portacot which pops up in seconds and folds down to the size of a frisbee. I brought one for Ashton yesterday and used it in Playgroup today. They are FANTASTIC !!
Love
-
Kathryn definately considering getting one! They sound great!
Emma, can she not be in your room? I wasn't able to sleep with Matilda out of my room for the first 8 weeks. She co-slept for 10 weeks and I couldn't even nap if she was asleep somewhere else...
-
Same here to Christy. I could not have Gem in another room till she was 6 wks as I was to nervous same with her napping, she'd nap in the dining room in a portable cot and now so does Jazz.
-
LOL ah good. Does she doze anywhere? I used to give Matilda naps in her pram so I could wheel her around the house with me when she was asleep LOL
-
Emma, glad things are going better now.
Kirsty, the only thing that matters is that you are doing what works for you. Don't worry about what anyone else says!! I'm glad you and Jazz are happier now.
-
OMG, just realised I missed a whole page of posts!!
Emma, I did the express / EBM thing for 2 days then used nipple shields until Jack was able to attach without them (about 3 weeks). I found the expressing thing very time consuming - having to wash and sterilise as well as the time to express and the time to feed, it seemed to just be endless. But I'm glad I did it as then I was able to bf for a long time once it was working. Have you tried nipple shields? They are a bit of a pain too, but IMO better than expressing if they work. A friend of mine expressed exclusively for a couple of weeks then her daughter was able to attach once she was that small amount bigger. Perhaps a lactation consultant could help? In any case attachment will get easier as Gaby grows.
BBL.....
-
Emma - I am expressing and bottlefeeding as Kirsten won't latch on properly, and have done for two weeks...it is hard work keeping up with her.
Seeing a specialist breastfeeding advisor tomorrow to see if they can help. Have tried the nipple shields but they are still too big for her mouth!
Re: her congestion, it seems to be in her chest and throat, she is not sick at all and doesnt have a cold, she is just a mucousy baby!
Marion
-
Kate - The travel portacots are just under $50.00 in Big W. It doesn't come in a box or anything, so look for a blue fat frisbee shape LOL. It had a thin piece of carboard around the middle that says what it is on it etc. In our Big W it was on the same baby row as the basinette mattress etc.
Ashton has basically be awake since 6.30pm he fed for 25 mins but only one 1 side, didn't want the other, so i put him in his basinette but he laid there awake and an hour and 20 mins later he was wanting more and has basically fed on and off since 8pm. Filled up 3 nappies between 8pm and 9pm, as quick as it was going in, it was coming out the other end LOL. He also had a blocked nose and has been sneezing heaps today, so had to clear that out for him so he could breathe a bit easier overnight and hopefully calm the sneezing down.

Emma I hope you are both asleep now as I post. Please try to sleep during the day if Gaby does, she may still have a bit of day/night confusion as well. Ashton was awake through the night alot for the first week. It sounds like you have a wonderful mum there. Don't feel guilty about her getting up to Gaby, she would know how hard it is to adjust to life as a newborn :) At least she is able to feed Gaby for you as well.
Ashton woke every 3 hours last night for a feed which I found surprising since he basically didnt' stop feeding last night before going to bed I thought he was in for a long sleep LOL. Lachlan also got up at one stage but not when I was feeding he had to wait till I had fallen asleep again grrr. So feeling a bit dead this morning myself.
Love
-
I hear you Em. Last couple of nights Jasmine has been up most of the night. Like Kathryn has said they get a bit confused as to when night and day are. Things will settle though. And don't feel bad that your mum put Gaby to sleep. She probably sensed that you were totally exhausted is all.
Yup I feel a bit flat this morning after last nights effort! But I get my staples out this morning so am excited about that!
-
Emma~ Jaxen did the same thing the first week or 2 but now he is much better, i would just put him in bed with me and he would settle much easier, try and rest up your luckey to have your mum to do that i wish i lived with my mum!! Enjoy you beautiful girl! I just looked at photos they are cute i love the one in the going home outfit!:)
Kate~ I love the dummy Jaxen has just taken to it and he settles so easy with it I hope the antibiotics clear up the infection
well bubs has reflux so he is on the S26 AR now and we had good night last night (must have been the only one!) he slept from 8:30pm till 1:30am then bottle and slept till 5:30am then bottle then till 7am and into bed with me and he slept till 8am while i went and showered and got ready. Then he went and stayed at my friends house while i got my hair done and i must admit it was nice just sitting there in the hairdresser not having to worrie bout doing anything but i missed him and speed straight back there:rolleyes:
-
Kate - We are still a no dummy family too, both the other boys had dummies by now ;) So I am trying to stick it out as well. Have 1 in readiness though just in case LOL.
Ashton had his weigh in. Midwife that did it was the actual midwife that delivered him so that was a bonus. Naked weight he was 2.700kg. so that is past his birth weight now and up 170g in 6 days.

We're another family that didn't get much sleep last night. Poor Jacob too because he is a light sleeper so when Charlie cries he can't sleep and today was his first day at a new job.
I can't sleep during the day either because when Charlie is asleep, Lily is awake and visa-versa. I just can never seem to get them to sleep at the same time. My eyes feel like they are hanging out of my head!
We finally got Charlie's hearing test done today. 3rd time lucky! He was too unsettled the other 2 times.
I'm so drained because Charlie just won't sleep anywhere but in my arms. I put him down for 2 seconds and he's screaming again!
Kate - Lily had a staph infection on her fingers when she was born, looked aweful. I hope it clears up for Rylee soon. We're not using a dummy for Charlie either because he hates them. Loves my finger and his thumb better!
-
We're another dummy free family!! Gem had a dummy and it drove me mad having to get up to put the damn thing back in all the time, so I'm holding out.......hope it lasts!LOL!
Same here Tegan with regards to the daytime naps. Its soooo hard trying to coordinate the 2 kids to have naps at the same time, and on the odd occasion that they did I have washing to do.......grrrrrrr....
-
Hello girls!!! Looks like I may not be joining you :(... I'll always stop by though ;)
Dummies - we didn't use one with Matilda until she was 4-5 weeks and her reflux & colic were really bad. It helped that so much... I was never going to use one but she screamed hours less a day with one so I gave in.
