OMG - so many posts since I popped in last. I'm feeling very emotional atm - fell apart at 4.30am this morning, DH came in to find me sitting on the floor in Kaylee's room with her in my arms crying hysterically. I cried for a good 45-mins! Ended up cancelling everything today and staying home - still feeling a bit down, but heaps better then before.

Oh, and today is my 3-year wedding anniversary - cancelled our plans for that too :(... but DH and I are going out to dinner on Fri night without Kaylee!

Viv - I have a Medela Mini Electric Plus = double breast pump which I was going to list on eBay to sell! I only used it for a week before we relised I simply can't b/f, so selling the pump. It is really good and you can express from both breasts at once or just one at a time. Medela is the brand the the hospital and ABA recommend!

Becky - hope Chelsea is ok, thinking of you!

Huh - what's this about early voting??

Nic - Kieran is a pooing machine! Everytime I check his nappy it is dirty. And yep, I use cream on his bum, but it is always red too.

My question of the day - for Mums with older kids. How in the carp do you put the newborn to sleep with a 3 year old that marches in to the room talking at the top of her lungs every 2 minutes?

Oh Leah, I actually laughed when I read your question, this is exactly what Joel does! I feel like I am constantly running backwards and forwards between the two, telling Joel to be quiet and then going back in for the millionth time trying to settle Kieran. It is soooooo frustrating! I also feel like I spend a great deal of each day telling Joel off so don't feel like you are the only one! I feel bad having to do it, but he is being so naughty at times and I am just so tired that it's too hard to tolerate.

Kieran seems to be falling into a nice o'night pattern of waking at 2am for a feed which makes 5 hours between feeds, then waking at 6am for another feed and sleeping until 9am. I can't wait until I can drop the 2am feed!

yes, he is hilarious if he's pushing a big one. he is a poo machine also. i love it because i know at least the milk is getting in... i wondered with all the vom-bag action he's been doing. he did such a big one last week that it escaped the nappy onto my shorts and the feeding chair and sheepskin rotfl. he likes to poo when he's feeding. cracks me up. i used to change him before a feed but he always carped 2 seconds later. now i just break the feed into two sessions and change him in the middle. he gets the hiccups almost every time anyway, so he needs to be put back on the boob.

re: sleep
last night he acted up and fought sleep until 10pm. he's never stayed up so late. he slept 10-3 then is now still asleep 4-.. who knows... i should be in bed but...

my mother missed her fuggin plane!!!!!! my aunty called at 5am to tell me and they both texted. mum will now be on a later plane into brisbane and my aunty can fetch her. gah. my sleep.... my precious sleep.

Wow - if only Caitlyn would settle into a nice routine like that!! She normally fights sleep until 8 then is awake at either 10 or 11 and then about every 2-3 hours she wakes again. Last night was down at 815, up at 1045, down at 1130 up at 130, down at 215 up at 430 down at 530 up at 6 and I just got her back to sleep now. Am thinking I might have to keep her awake more during the day so that we can both get some sleep at night! I am still working out her different cries but have got the hunger one down pat.
Has anyone who is bottle feeding changed their formula? I worry that she is awake so much cause she is hungry all the time - just about every time she wakes she is hungry - she does that clown mouth that someone else mentioned. And in the morning - like just now - she has a huge spit up. My mum says its not vomit cause it doesnt smell acidic and it really doesnt seem to bother her (just need to change her). I worry that its her formula. Someone told me not to change it unless I speak to a Doctor first. I will be going to see the CHN in the next day or so (she is only there a few days a week and DH has the car today!) so maybe I will speak to her before I change it. I also have to get Caitlyn weighed - she hasnt been weighed since her 9 day check up. The chemist here doubles as a furniture store and doesnt have any baby scales - I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!
Anyway - she is asleep now so time for a shower - covered in spit up right now!

L does those explosive poos too! It cracks me up. He does seem too have more soiled nappies than just wet ones IYKWIM. I don't use any cream on him, tho his bum is a bit red. Is sudocream the stuff to use?

Q about sleep patterns. L sleeps mostly about 2 - 3 but up to 5 hours at a time (ie. am, afternoon, and evening sleep). Overnight he usually wakes at either 2 or 3am and feeding and settling can take over an hour. Sometimes I change his nappy other times I don't. He then can be up every hour until I get up at 7am and feed etc and put him down around 9. How can I get L to sleep longer o/n?

Rebecca - Does Caitlyn sleep for long stretches in the day? If so then she will probably wake a lot at night. I wake Kieran if I have to for 3 hourly feeds during the day (that's three hours from the start of one feed to the start of the next) and get him to stay awake for a little while after a feed (sometimes this is hard!). He pretty much wakes up on the 3 hour dot to feed, but I usually have to wake him by the afternoon. I followed this principal (based on a book recommended to me) for Joel and he started sleeping through the night by 5.5 weeks (8 hours between feeds). I am hoping for the same success this time!

Saffi - It is possible because Lachlan is sleeping so long during the day that he may be having his alert time at night instead. I am no expert, but it is just a thought! The book I use recommends a feed/wake/sleep cycle during the day which helps establish good night sleep. I know not everyone likes to go by a routine (mine isn't that strict, I play it a bit by ear too), but it works for us!

Viv - I hope you get some decent sleep today!

Saffi - I use Sudocreme with each and every nappy change and have had no probs with any sort of nappy rash or redness even in this heat and in disposable nappies. I love the stuff as I was really dreading the poor little bugger getting nappy rash out here in this heat.

Jasmine sleeps 8 hours thru the night between feeds...but day time goes form 3-4 hour feeds.

Bepanthan with antispetic is good on rashy bums, but the best thing ive found is Paw Paw cream. Works wonders!!!

Aww Kim...I don't know if any of us want to hear that Jasmine sleeps 8 hours already! Hee, hee, you are so lucky to have such awesome girls.

I use Sudocrem, but I have used that Bepanthan antispetic one that Kim mentioned on Joel when he was in nappies and it worked really well. Maybe I will use that one again.

I use Egoderm Cream with Sudocream. I found that the sudocream wasn't healing anything but is a good barrier cream so I use both at once now!!

ok so my shower time at 8 am turned out to be a non event! She woke again! Took me close to 2 hours to get her to settle. She is now asleep and I have done the shower thing and grabbed somethng to eat because if today continues how it started.....I wont get much of a chance to do either any other time. After 20 mins though she did stir....just tapped her little bottom a few times and she dropped off again after about 5 mins. That basically means she had been up for 5.5 hours - since 430 this morning! Poor little thing - must be as tired as me!

well i am now on 4 days in a row and counting of good sleeps. Ty fed at 10pm and went until 5.30am.
But then during the day he wants to feed every 2-2.5hrs so makes up for it.

Yep Nixon also goes into Tyron's room chatting to him and sometimes giving him presents arhhh!
thismorning i caught him layingon Tyron when i was right there. And twice yesterday h tried to sit in the rocker whilst Ty was it it. So i pulled out a fence thing i borrowed off mum, Nixon doest like it but i dont have eyes in the back of my head!

Oh Peta Hugs to you. hope you are ok. Were you upset cause Kaylee was unsettled? Sorry you had to cancel your annaversary plans but hopefully uou have a better evening and day today. Happy annaversary btw!

Leah- the only time so far i ave taken the two out together was grocery shopping, i can imagine Nixon carrying on like that if i had to stop o feed Ty. actually went to the shops with just Ty on tues which was great, but was stuck for 45mn feeding etc and i was thinking my god how would i do this if Nixon was here, there is now way i could contain him in the parents room behind the curtain for that long!
i guess we need to tall ourselevs it wont be that bad every time and atleas we are TRYING and gettig out of the house!

i also do the nappy change after a feed because he always pooed after his feed. but lately i see oo before so change him then he justdoe another one or two or 50 anyway!!

Thanks girls - feeling a lot better today... I think I had just be 'holding' it all together too well, and putting too much pressure on myself. Yes, she was very unsettled and screaming quite badly - which I think was just breaking point for me. She was unsettled again last night, but not as bad - and I am feeling a lot better, was feeling teary all day yesterday.

Viv - not sure what the rules are discussing 'for sale' on here, so have sent you a PM!

Oh, SO jealous of the bubs sleeping for nice long periods over night... we have had a few of 5-6 hour sleeps overnight, but last 3 nights she has been very unsettled :(

FF = we started on S26 Gold, and she was very spewy on that, switched the Heinz Nuture (not gold) and she has been heaps better on that, still get the occassional spew - but not much or too often! And it is heaps cheaper!

Beckey - Maybe talk to your CHN if you are seeing her soon?! Oh, I have taken to showering at night before bed so I don't have to 'stress' about showering before we go out or do anything in the morning... miss my morning showers. But seams to be much easier!

Kim - how on earth have you already got Jasmine to sleep 8 hours thru the night????

Hayleys poos seem to have changed in the last week - gone from being dark army like green to now being a bit more mustard/light brown colour - there is still a lot of them though!

I think i got my first genuine (non wind assisted) smile today! I'm so glad no-one can hear me but i sing to Hayley this stupid little song and today she smiled at me while I was doing it! Of course the camera was no where closeby so couldn't capture this precious moment for posterity, but will be forever captured in my mind!

Speaking of the little princess, she is calling me right now - gotta run

Im not sure how ive done it Kate. Jasmine has her last feed any where from 10-11pm and then sleeps thru until 7am. Never wakes or stirs thru the night....i guess im lucky...but then who knows when she will change her habits!!

Also received my SS gift today.....we are keeping them wrapped until xmaz day :)

Emily is in childcare for a session and Harry is asleep on the sofa! I really want a cup of tea but one of my teeth has gone really sensitive and it hurts to drink hot liquids.

Becky - So sorry to hear about Chelsea. My sister had it too but I can't really remember as I was 3.5 when she was born.

Amber - That's a real pity! Maybe you could give them another chance? Or find out if there's another ABA group within travelling distance?

Nic - Harry's bottom isn't sore now but I used some Lucas' Pawpaw along with Sudocream to clear it up.

Leah - you made me laugh out loud too! Emily seems to increase the volume when she knows that Harry is asleep. In actual fact I saw the smile of satisfaction when she woke him up today, it made me laugh which was good otherwise I could have been quite cross. I've been out a good few times with the two of them now (though I still dread it!!) and it does get easier!

Poos - Harry's have gone from mustard to dark green?? He seems ok in himself though.

Heat rash - Harry has a really bad rash all over his face! Its gone dry too. He seems ok with it but a complete stranger commented on it yesterday and made me feel awful. AND a neighbour told me my daughter was really naughty, which she isn't!! She's a normal healthy 2 year old. Why do people feel the need to label kids like that? Good/bad - what's wrong with clever, creative, boisterous, independent....

I didnt want to say anyhting incase i jinx it but Myles is sleeping through the night now too!Has been since saturday! He usually goes down at about 6:30, wakes for a feed between 12 ansd 2 then sleeps till 5! We havent controlled cried just tried doing the same thing everyday and lots of cuddles! But I think it depends on the bubs, and what there plan is!:)

Quick Q When Myles feeds somtimes his little nose leaks BM? Any suggestions as too why this happens? He is happy and it doesnt seem to bother him, should I be worried?

Raspberry to your neighbour for calling your DD naughty! How soon people forget what kids are like! My dad is the same, I am sure he thinks we should be smacking Eliza....I do a light smack on the bum when its something I think is very important, but I always feel bad when I do it. Eliza does not seem to care anyway - but dad says its 'cos I don't smack hard enough....so I replied well if I have to hit her that hard I am not going to do it because I don't think its right. Family always have the answers.......

I hear you on the rash thing. Amara has one on her eyebrows ans some little pimples on her cheeks and still stork marks on her nose and eyelids. I also noticed the rashy thing thats on her eyebrows is a but in her hair, looks like cradle cap. I have started using the Medi Honey for excema, see how it goes.

Boomba - not sure about the BM put the nose, but if he isn't worried I can't see how it would hurt him. Maybe mention it at your next clinic visit? When Amara spews it always comes out her nose too LOL!

Trish - I think we are doing the same thing with the three hourly feeding... We are doing a flexible routine - have been since day 1, but she wakes up three hourly on the dot during the day anyway.

For nappy rash - we use Gaia Soothing Lotion (which is their nappy rash product) and it is really good! Ro's bot isn't even a little red anymore... I did notice it start to get a little red, so I applied some of that Gaia lotion and went away very quickly.. Now I apply it atleast once a day and we haven't had a problem since. I do have sudocream and Amolin nappy rash cream too - but we're only really using the Gaia.

Rochelle's poos have settled down... she only does one freakin huge one a day now - instead of every nappy change. When I say one huge one, it entails a complete change of clothes and bath... it gets all up her front to her tummy and all up her back and leaks out of her nappy- yellow diahrrea, I know that's normal for bubs.

Claire - I can say from meeting your gorgeous little girl that she is not naughty! She was perfectly behaved on Monday.
I don't know why other people feel the need to say whatever they're thinking... being pregnant and having a bub has really reinforced that to me

Hayley also has really bad heat rash combined with milk spots on her face... poor little thing - only 3 and a bit weeks old and she already has acne issues.... some of them are really big white and pus looking - most things/people say it will just go away on its own but I wonder if I should be washing it more carefully? or perhaps using something like Lucas paw paw cream? Appreciate any advice :)

Nic - the little monkey backpack/lead thingy that I saw on Monday was very cute - Heathers little boy loved taking monkey for a walk! I think they're a great invention

Boomba - if it doesn't seem to worry him I wouldn't worry yourself, but for your own reassurance maybe just ask the dr/health nurse next time you see them.

Hayley has a little white spot on her nipple, just one but not the other, I'm not too worried by it as it doesn't seem to hurt or bother her, does anyone elses girls have this?

Have just woken up from a 2 hour nap. It took ages to put L down for his afternoon nap and while doing so noticed I was dozy too. This is probably only the third or fourth time I have slept during the day in the last month so big deal for me. L still asleep.

Trish - you mentioned a book that use on sleep routines. What is it? I think you're right that its probably just his wakeful period, but geez its annoying. At least by going to bed earlier like I have I get some decent sleep before the night shift starts.

Cath - no I don't think we settled on an exact time except to say mid morning. Probably 10.30/11, but see what everyone else thinks. Also should we nominate and circulate someone's mobile number to contact if something happens (like running late, lost, can't come etc).

Once L wakes up we are going to go for a walk. Haven't been out of the house now in 2 days so if I don't I will go crazy.

Got our medicare card today with L's name on it. Officially recognised that we are a family!

sleeping- i too wake Luella every 3 hrs for a feed in the day, although she mostly wakes on the dot. Am also using a flexible routine. She generally sleeps from 9 or 10pm until either 2-3am for a feed then 7-8am for another feed. Sometimes she skips the 2-3am feed which is just lovely! Love my sleep..... 9 out of 10 times she settles easily in the night, but somtimes it can take an hour if she is really 'burpy'.

Have had no probs with nappy rash yet, must be the nappies leah ;) So can't comment on a good cream.

Kate-Not sure about the white spot on the nipple sorry, could it be a little pimple?

Amber- I agree with everyone else, i would mention it next visit, but prob nothing to worry about.

Now there was something I wanted to respond to... let me see if I can remember! Oh, that's right. Rash on face - Kaylee has it very bad. Apparently very common for bubs to get quite pimply around weeks 6-8, as their sweat poors mature. Is more common when it is hot. CHN said: try and keep bubs cool, wash her face and pimply area with water only, if it is dry put a little bit of moisturiser on it, no oil, umm.. think that is about it. But if it get's worse or doesn't clear up may need to go to the Dr and get special cream for eczema.

Kim - is Beyond Belly your business?? Do you know if the Monkey Doodlez Swim Nappies are any good??

We had our health centre visit today, and Tahlia has put on 425 grams since Monday of last week, so everyone was very happy with her. She has also grown 2cm since birth, so she is doing really well. the nurse said I must have an excellent supply for her to be growing like that, so I was very pleased!

I am very excited for the weekend - we are taking Tahlia to the local shopping centre to see Santa! Even though she doesn't understand, I'm still very excited!

about the nipple thing, i was told at the hospital that the baby might be producing breast mlk(even boys) as they have been stuck with the same hormones as we were. this may have something to do with it????

whatever time is good for me, lachie has his awake time from 9.30 till lunchtime most days so he will be happy anyway.

after saying yesterday that Tyron doesnt stop pooing he went all ay without doing one!
Then tonight i went to change him, he started pushing one out so i was just letting him with the nappy underneath but ndone. then he did a huge push and sprayed it everywhere including me yukk!!

Claire- my sister just gave me this cream to try on Ty cause his fae was rally pimply also. i cant think of the dam name now and i gave it back to her. Its a prescription though so u'd need to go to the docs but it clears it up quick smart.

just went and had my eyebrows waxed and eyelashes tinted and tomorrow im getting my hair done (only been 6months since last done!) ive got my school reunion tomorrow night!!

Peta Beyond Belly is indeed my business. I have tried the swim nappies on Chelsea only in the bath but worked well for me, and ive had good feedback from other people who have brought them for me.

ETA: Wat do you all bath your bubs in...i mean wash stuff? We were using Huggies bath wash but Jasmine has really dry skin, so we started with just water, but now we use Gaia wash.

I noticed you use the lotion Catherine...do you use all their products. My MCHN recommended it.

Yes Kim, I use their whole range... I love the massage oil too... that and the Soothing Lotion are my two favourites..

Can you believe I got my period today... Had tummy cramps (oowww, which were bloody painful) and a sore back the past two days and today I get bright red blood. How on earth can my body tell that I am giving my baby one bottle of formula? Grrr....

Aw bugger bout AF arriving already Catherine....thats sucky! My nurse said only oil i should be using on Jas is olive oil....so not been game enuf to try any other the other products other then the wash. Smells so pretty!!

The Gaia range is all natural Kim, I can look on the bottle for you, but I am pretty sure the massage oil is olive and almond or apricot oil... something like that - but it's really soothing and i'm not sure if it's my imagination - but Rochelle always seems to sleep really well after we use it, even if it's not a full on massage kwim?

Oils are always great on kids. With Chelsea i never used oils but some J & J night cream with night soothing stuff in it. Slept wonderfully with it. My point im trying to make is, your probably right in saying Rochelle sleeps better with it.

Yep ive seen the QV wash in chemists before....ill see how we go with Gaia, if not give that a go...
