Thanks for all the info (and encouragement) on the cloth nappies. OMG, Mel at the number of nappies you have! That's quite an investment! And such a huge range! I've started looking at Wild Child and Itti's. Suzie, which BG do you use for Arabella? The all in ones? How's Bella's tummy now? I hate it when I accidentally bump Matthew or turn him over the wrong way and his arm catches. Erin, thanks for the email on Facebook. And the offer of a cool place to visit! We had a 43.5 degree day yesterday and today feels the same.

Donna, I've been thinking about starting Matthew on solids or at the least giving him some water on these hot days but the early childhood nurse keeps telling me, no, and to wait until he's six months before starting. She also showed me the type of cup to use, just a cheapy thing that's light and simple, and to not to get one with a teat. I haven't got one yet but will look for one when I next get to a supermarket or Big W.

Lauren, your Liberty sounds like a good eater! I wonder how Matthew will take to starting on Farex. Hopefully as good as Liberty!

Captain, sounds like Ashlyn will be off and crawling very, very soon. Matthew's not at that stage yet. He still really doesn't very much like being on his tummy for any length of time although he's rolling on to his stomach often and then gets stuck. And then cries. Hoping he'll get stronger soon and work out how to roll back over.

Better check on him, he's sleeping but I'm so paranoid about him rolling. :rolleyes:

Oh My Goodness, we had a rough night last night. Emily didn't sleep from 10-1am! She hasn't been like that since she was a newborn. She wasn't crying just talking and playing but enough to keep us awake! I'm so tired. I think she has a blocked nose and couldn't suck her dummy very well which normally settles her. I'm hoping she is ok tonight:pray:

Re nappies: I have some liners that go inside the real nappies, a family member gave them to me but I'm not good enough to do real ones... would anybody like them? I'm happy to post them anywhere I just really don't want them to go to waste: Natures Child Bio Liners pk 200

Madeleine did have an eye infection, so we have some drops & it's working a treat. She's also eating like a trooper, she just in love with only organic apple custard & Farex.

Well we are in for the worst weather tomorrow, we've already had a serious scare today with a grass fire a few streets away threatening homes... you can say we are a little paranoid, so i'm packing the car with some baby essentials just in case we get told to move out as if the reserve with live across from goes up there wont be much hope for our house.

Scary about the grass fire, CJ! Very hot here too, it was 44.4 at 3pm and tomorrow's forecast is for 45. Matthew is sleeping a lot today. How's Madeleine coping?

Woohoo, Erin! You're going really well with the WW thing! My diet's pretty terrible and I really have to push myself to eat properly, especially in this heat. All I want to eat is ice-cream! At least I'm still taking Elevit multi-vitamins and hopefully they help keep me healthy. Hope Emily sleeps better for you tonight!

I've booked a room for Matthew and me at a 4 star motel in Griffith tomorrow. I'm just so worried about keeping Matthew from overheating. Worried also about my old dog and wish I could sneak her in with us! I just have to hope she'll cope with plenty of water and her favourite spot on the porch which remains in the shade of the house all day. So far she has.

kerry - good on your for booking a room, I saw the forecast for tommorrow down your way and just couldnt believe it. surely the heat has to give up soon. with the bg's, I got the one size one's and they have been really good. I was a bit skeptical thinking that they would be bulky but they're not. take care in the awful weather and I hope yr doggy stays cool too - if it were me, I;d be sneaking her in LOL.

eej - :clap: for the weight loss. i'm nearly up to a 4kg loss and can really feel it in my pants, they are getting loose. we have the osfm bbh and theyre not bulky at all, I must be doing something wrong cause most people luv em.

cj - oooh, I've clipped the nails too far before as well. Bella is such a damned worm.

ok, gotta run, little poo is awake - AGAIN... she does this every night. as soon as I pick her up for a cuddle her little eyes roll back into her head and shes asleep, hhmmm, she's got me wrapped around her finger..

Ashlyn had her first swimming lesson today and loved it. But she has been so tired ever since, I think she's having a growth spurt though because she is eating so much and making me sooo hungry. I given up the diet for today because if I don't eat something high calorie I think I will pass out!

As far as the cloth nappies goes, my fav at the moment are my minky magicalls. They fit Ashlyn's chubby thighs really well. I used to love my Wild childs for Danielle, but they just don't fit Ashlyn well. Except for the WC night nappies which are fantastic. I also love the BG's.

Oh, I will have to be back later for personal because sounds like Ashlyn is awake again.

argh it's been one of those nights/days and going to be nights again :(

My poor Ash! He seemed fine from his needles which he had at 1pm. Come last night he got a soaring temp, I gave him Dymadon and that settled him a little but he was up and down all night very hot and feeding like mad so I barely slept :( Today he has sooked and cried and had more pain relief. I hope he is better tomorrow. Poor Jaidan, it was his 5th birthday today and I barely had time to do anything with him. Ashtons toe is looking very sore too so I am waiting for the doctors on Wed and hoping it doesn't get any redder :(

On a good note, Ashton is 5 months in 2 days. 2 DAYS! How fast has it gone!!

warning - whinge alert...

well we tried out a new swimming place on Friday and I really wish i didn't pay for those lessons in advance as the lady was a cow - at least i only have another 4 lessons with her. anyway she said at the start of the lesson "say your baby's name and ready, set, go put their head under water whilst watching them and bring them towards you". at the other place i went to, the teacher was ALWAYS with us individually for putting our babies underwater so i thought this was a little strange. I was new along with the mum next to me and I said to her that I was a little nervous about putting Liberty underwater myself and she agreed. I tried it and of course Liberty inhaled heaps of water and choked for ages (and I'm super paranoid about dry drowning too which made me freak out). The other new mum was too scared to put her bub under after seeing that then the teacher says "why did you put her head under, i didn't mean for you to, this is only her first lesson - she won't do that for a while yet" and carried on like i was some kind of idiot - luckily the other mum piped up saying "well why did you tell us to, how we were supposed to know that you didn't mean us". If I hadn't paid in advance for other lessons I wouldn't go back because she was rude most of the time and she didn't spend one-on-one time with us like they did at the other place.

ok whinging over...

On the brighter side of things swimming was a super workout at this place and I was so tired I slept for over an hour and a half afterwards and Liberty slept for 3 hours!!

mel - how is ashton now?
Nicambhar - 4kg yay!! wow!! i put on 1kg this week and I can't work out why... i mean obviously i've eaten too much but i just don't remember eating more!! and with the reflux ... last night i was walking along carrying her and heard a splat, usually happens just before we're about to leave to go somewhere and she'll spew on my thongs or all on my clothes. i had baby vomit under my armpit the other morning when i woke up... no idea how that happened!! but she is a happy chucker now too. i'm thinking of not continuing on zantac when she runs out.
kerry - hope you weren't too hot today! i have a video on facebook of liberty eating solids for the first time. i made it private though but i think i made it so u can see it, if u can't just remind me cos it is cute (although i am bias). i had to make it private because it was SO freaking HOT that day i was in my undies and t-shirt and hubby didn't think not to video close-up so u can't tell. i was naughty though and said that i had pants on in the video which is kind of true, i had under-pants on!!
donna - are u on facebook? i'd love to see more pics of ur little molly!

oh and to answer ur question from a while back jen about thinking about more babies, we're going to try again when Liberty is about 10 months old. Insane I know... haha!! Our plan is two kids close together, wait 4-5 years and if we want more than we'll have another two close together. That's the plan anyway. I really need to get motivated and lose weight, I was so uncomfortable at the end of my last pregnancy and I don't want to feel that way again!!

Sue, they're gorgeous aren't they, Ashlyn cries and then goes to sleep when she gets a cuddle. I'm definately wrapped around her little finger.
CJ, sounds scarey, hope the fires stay away from your area. That's great that Madeliene loves her food. I'm starting to feel bad for not giving Ashlyn any, she is starting to try and grab at our food now, might have to start her soon.

I was just thinking that it seems quiet in here for a few days, then suddenly I find it hard to keep up, lol! I've just found out that I have to go to work next week so I'm desperately trying to express enough milk. I haven't even tried Ashlyn with a bottle for ages so I really don't know what is going to happen. I really didn't want to have to leave her so soon, but at least it's only for a day and the money will be good.

Ashton is better. It was his toothy. Poking right up and I only noticed when he bit me really hard and I felt it.

Nae has posted on FB that she is safe and I've just received a text from Pam to say that she is ok but can't get home. She is staying with her mum. Her DH stayed on to fight the fires and is stuck there. Their house is still there, power and phone are back on.

I'm so relieved I feel teary. The news just seems to get worse and worse, doesn't it.

Thanks for the update Kerry I was a little worried about Pam. I knew she lived in the area but didn't know where. I knew Nae lives a bit further away from the fires though

ooh thank the lord Kerry. I cant tear myself away from the tele at the moment and I have been really getting upset worrying about Pam and Nae. Lets just hope they stay safe and the rain starts pouring to put the bloody fires out.:pray:

ooooher, I just ordered some more bumgenius' and I grabbed a couple of minky magicalls to see how they go. Arabella has got a fair bit of junk in her trunk and also huge chubby thighs so I hope they fit ok :redface:

Where do you get your BG's from Sue? They are so exxy compared to most other nappies. The Minky magicalls are the ones I'm getting from baby beehinds. I hope they are good too!

got them from baby soft landings. yer, $38 for the BG's and I paid $25 for them from the baby expo. I was a little shocked at the price of them TBH, but they really are worth it cause they are one size so will last longer.
Captain has the magicalls and says they are her fav. I have the other BBH's (hemp or whatever they are) and lordy do they take ages to dry so I thought I'd give the magicalls a whirl too cause mine aren't waterproof and need a cover over them which is another $25 :rolleyes:
I only have 3 BG's and 2 BBH's at the moment so at least the extra 4 I bought might make them last the day instead of going into sposies which soooo cut into her legs - not too sure about using them at night though.

$25!! Gee that's cheap, I'm hanging for the next baby expo! I wasn't keen on those type of BBH needing covers either. Yeah the one size thing is good with the BG. I think I'll have to try at least one!

The BBH' were the first ever nappy I bought and I think I got it cause it felt so nice and soft - didn't really do my homework :rolleyes::. Even though you dont need to change the cover every nappy change it's still another added expense, not to mention bulk on the bum.

I moved Bella's cot into my room today ( she has never been in it yet :redface: ) and I thought I'd give it a go tonight. Not that I mind her sleeping with me, I'm just worried about her when she finally gets on the move, so it's best to get her used to it now I s'pose. I'm going to miss spooning with her.

I love the minky magicalls :) We can't use the BG OS anymore. We were ok for a while but now he is so allergic to the synthetic inner that he comes out in a shocking rash. I have to line all the nappies that aren't natural inners, which is ok I suppose. But the BG I gave up on, hated the fit, hated touching the microfibre and Ash was allergic so no point.
Which BBH do you have? Bamboo or hemp?? Ours only take a day out in ok sun, or half a day in the hot sun here in Tassie!

MM - aaahh, good to hear that the magicalls are ok. Our BBH's are the bamboo one's with the hemp liner - I think, I'm a nappy virgin so scuse me LOL.
Geez, it'd be hard to steer clear of synthetic in the nappies.

hehe Sue. You can get bamboo ones or hemp ones, they aren't mixed ;) I love them, we use them at night here with a extra booster on the outside. I have about 25 of them lol

Man Ashton is getting around, today he got into the hallway from my loungeroom (think 7 meters)... little monkey. And for those who are on my FB I uploaded a pic of him standing!! Yes, I was sitting at the tonka table playing with the trains with Ash and he grabbed the table and pulled himself up and stood there for about 5 minutes. I had to grab my camera and snap away, I was so worried he would fall over but he didn't! Geez he is moving too fast!

Okay, ladies, you've had me looking for days now at websites and forums for cloth nappies. I feel I should be keeping notes! Think I'll have a look in Griffith tomorrow and also see if I can get one of those Safety 1st bedside barriers as Matthew and I are still co-sleeping.

I think I've made a rod for my own back! It's been over 40 degrees here for nearly 2 weeks and to keep as cool as possible while feeding Matthew, I've been feeding him lying down. Now of course he's squirming like a bag of worms when I try to feed him sitting up! Somehow I don't think Qantas will let me lie on the floor of the aisle to feed him so I have very limited time to sort this out! :wall: Arghhh.

He also lunges all over the place when I have him in the bath. Any suggestions? I tried getting in the bath with him today, not ideal when it came to getting out and getting us both dry.

Well done too to those of you who have lost weight - awesome! I've GOT to do something about my diet. I'm starting to crave "real" meals.

If she happens to pop in tell her if they need somewhere to go we have space in our house they are more than welcome to come and take refuge.

Our area at this stage is still safe our clostest threats are with the fires burning the Bunyip area we are only 20 from Drouin but with the winds blowing from the south its keeping the fires burning northerly (away from our area) I am hoping the wind shift on the weekend will send the fires back on themselves.

Xavier doesnt scream when he comes out but he loves his bath and I get soaked from him throwing his arms into the water and him kicking his legs. DD refuses to bath with him now as she hates being splashed LOL

Just a short post as off to DD swimming lesson soon but just to say you have me hooked on the cloth nappies too now. I am a novice I bought a trial pack when xavier was born but when I tried them as a newborn they seemed so big in the osfm so I have waited to use them.

I have bought a coushie couture that feels so soft and I have a couple more orders on their way but cant remember the makes. I have a BBH coming I think that was for a night time nappy. I really should have written it down as I have done loads of reading in the cloth nappy forum.

I hope to be rid of sposies in the next week or so once my supply arrives.

I am thinking of putting my 3.5yr old into them for her bed time pants too anything to save money on sposies and the environment too.

Glad everyone in here from VIC is safe. We lived down there for a while and I spent a NY in marysville and it breaks me to think it no longer exists.

Thanks Kerry - Fires didn't come close but the ember attacks were in Drouin only 20km away from us - the winds on Saturday were frighteningly hot and strong and we know that embers can travel huge distances. Saturday night we were still being vigilant because of the lightening we had heaps but nothing else much to report.

Sadly Wilsons Prom was hit by lightening and there is a fire going in there but at this stage its not posing any risks to residential/farming areas.

Sounds like the Churhill fires were deliberately lit - I hope they catch the morons and charge them max penilty for murder for every person who died. Then they can fry them!! Who knows what would happen if word got out who did it! I reckon the arsonists would have an "accident" if locals got hold of them.Its sickening.

Anyway, thankfully the weather is better I just pray we get some decent rain to help the Firies fight we need giant fans to send those rain clouds in QLD down here to vic to dump their rain over the fires.

well, no photos for us today. there was a big power outage and the shopping centre was closed so we have to rebook them.
bella had the crappest night ever last night, the teeth are giving her absolute hell at the mo. I think all up I got about just under 2hrs sleep and am so not used to it cause she is usually a great sleeper even though she still stirs for a feed at about 2am. was a very grumpy mummy today and then with the power out and no air con it didnt help the matter.

Kerry :lol: you never know if he is screaming they may just be willing to let you do it lol. Poppy is the same though she pulls an dlooks around if we are sitting and feeding and not happening if we are out and then gets upset if you pack up shop :doh: Slightly embrassing have full nipple exposure in the shopping centres.

Sue I have everything crossed for Charlotte and any others in those areas that have been completely wiped. You think how devestating to lose your house, possesions, animals until you see the huge loss of life???? I am not sure where she lived, but I sure hope she and her family are safe.

As far as we go we (me and the kids) left on Saturday it just looked to bad to me...Dh stayed even though I pleaded for him to come, he decided he did'nt want to lose the house to ember attack little realizeing how close the fires came. Just a wind change and we would have gone up. We are completely surronded by trees, in a timber log cabin type house, all timber lined etc. beautifull until you find yourself in this situation. I went to mums which is in the closet town, I tried to ring DH no phone reception and he had no idea that there was none till later...power went out so no radio for updates, no fire pump, no water....pure craziness in my mind especially after you see what happened to others in the same situation. We only got home late last night, when the roads have been opened to residents. Still having flare ups and there is so much bush not burnt, we are still being told to be vigilant and conditions are expected to become dangerous again on the weekend, high temps and wind. Plus a firebug still on the loose...the place was burning down and they were still lighting fires????? 21 peope have died here and over 100 homes have been lost including one entire community!!! We stilll don't have full numbers and won't until roofs get lifted from houses etc. Not to meation livestock, pets, sheds, hay, grass, machinery everything that people need to run farms feed animals etc. We are offering our property up to support a horse or tow and maybe some dogs, we have a few paddocks and a dog run, so hope that someone can make use of them. Anyway keep us in your thoughts especially over the weekend, I think we might need it. Anyone good at a rain dance???

Pam, very glad to hear from you. I'm sure everyone who prays - and even those who don't - will be praying for decent rains and for the fires to be contained and extinguished before conditions change. If only we could send the water down from Nth Qld, where they've had far too much. This weekend, if conditions turn bad again, I hope you are able to convince your DH to come with you. The police want to be catching the firebug/s before the community does.

Matthew is a bucket of worms, holding him on my lap and his arms and legs are pumping and he arches his back. A full on exercise class happening at the moment. I got him to breastfeed with me sitting up and him lying on a pillow in the loungeroom yesterday. But he was doing the detaching thing to look around, talk to me, smile, before reattaching for a minute and detaching again. I'm thinking this is so not going to be fun on the plane!

Suzie, we're off to HK next Wednesday. I'm sure once we're there, we'll have the best time. It's just the travelling part that is scaring me! Has Bella had any teeth come up?

Just a quick post as I have to go get DD she is going to the doctors. I am worried she may have a UTI as she keeps rubbing her bits and is really not herself recently. Hope the doctor can sort her out as the tantrums have been really bad.

I have spent the morning sorting things out for the bushfire appeal. I am taking them to Vinnies tomorrow. I struggled to find somewhere in QLD to take things from me they all want money but the way things are for us at the mo we dont have a lot of spare cash what with only one working and the credit crunch etc but we have loads of things to give - mainly clothes, disposable nappies, a basinnett that Xavier has grown out of to name a few. I am embarrased by the amount of things we have and hardly use.

Xavier is happily bouncing in his jolly jumper and I am pleased I have managed to get him self settling again so my life is a little easier.

Glad the girls in VIC are safe for now and I hope stay safe. I am praying for rain. I know some of the area affected well and I cry everytime I see the destruction on the TV.

Well, I am just having a bit of a shyte time atm. We've been having trouble with ds15 ever since I can remember and have always been shunned at school or not taken seriously by anyone and I have finally found some help for his behaviour and learning probs. We are up for a long hard haul with him, not that it hasn't been hard already. I have always had a feeling that there was something not right with him, not simple or anything, just not right IYGWIM. Anyway, I asked yesterday at the learning support centre we have found if there is a possibility that he has mild autism/aspergers and she said that she had already written a note that may be the case but didnt want to upset me. I just think that a mother always knows when something isn't right. Just had to get that out of my system cause df isn't too supportive and thinks that we are all overreacting :rolleyes:, but at the end of the day, it's not his son, he doesnt have the connection with him. Sorry for the epic...
then...... I go to the dr today and have to go back next week to have some cancers cut from my cheek. I have one on my nose but he burned it today because cutting it would require skin grafts in hospital, so we have to keep a close eye on it... Hmmm, I've always looked after my skin so it's pretty scary..

sorry for the all about me post, there are so many people going through such an awful time right now and I feel like a biatch having a whinge.

Sue, hope the nappy shopping helps you feel better. At least know you know there is something up with your DS and now you have more of an idea what to do to help him.:hug: Hope it all goes well with your skin. It is a bit scarey, especially since I got burnt heaps as a kid.

Kerry, Ashlyn gets distracted easily too, it can make a feed take ages when she wants to look around all the time. Sounds like it will be a fun trip, you should be in the front row of your section though, cause that's where they put the bassinets, might make it a bit easier.

Mel, I can't believe Ashton is standing!!! The photos are really cute, he just doesn't want to wait does he?

Eej, I didn't realize i couldn't give blood. That's for saving me a trip. I will go though as soon as we stop BFing.

Well, went to work today and it didn't go as bad as I thought. DH said Ashlyn took about 15mins before she worked out the bottle had milk in it and then she was fine. I was pretty relieved. It was just a one off thing, I'm not actually due to go back to work until June, and it will only be for 2 days a week. It was kind of nice to have some adult conversation though. Ashlyn is having sleeping issues at night because she keeps pushing herself up and moving around her cot. I need to get out the sleeping bags because she doesn't stay under the covers anymore. I'm sure one day I'll get some sleep, lol.

Sue, big hugs for you. I haven't had my skin checked and I know I should. My father's had heaps cut out in the past couple of years. Fair skin and blue eyes and a few too many sunburns when I was younger too makes it a scary prospect. Anyway, good luck for next week when you have to go back to the doctor's for your cheek. :hug: You must be relieved that someone finally might be able to help your son. As a primary teacher, I know how hard it can be to get help for kids. So much depends on the quality of the school behaviour support teachers. And then you have to have support from the parent/s too. Hope this is a turning point for your DS. Happy nappy shopping!

Erin, yes, I've had a look at some of the websites and threads on BB re: travelling with infants. Some really good information. Still feeling very anxious though. ;)

Jo, hope the doctor was able to help your DD. Poor little thing. Good idea about going through your things to donate to the appeal. That is something I can do. It's hard not to feel helpless.

Captain, that's great that Ashlyn went so well today. How long were you at work? I've been thinking about getting Matthew's grobags out as it's been getting cool at nights here, after a few weeks where the temperature didn't drop below 25 at night... We haven't had to have even a sheet over us for so long. Hope you get a better sleep tonight.
