hi all
Gracie - I dont use a website for recipes - but i do have an annabel karmel book and also another one by a UK nutitionist called yummy baby. wholesomebabyfood is a good site though as is annabel karmel's site. there are also lots of good recipes here on BB - there is a sticky thread with them in there. IKWYM about being a bit weird about the email bouncing back - i wonder why it did???
Cally re finger foods - sounds like you have done heaps! I also give Noah melon, cheese (when he hasnt got an upset tummy), Cheerios (just scatter afew on his tray) which he loves and also cruskits. I have also done peas as a finger food - think i will try pasta too this week. do any of you do sultanas? i hear mixed reports on if they are a good idea so havent done yet. i give the odd milk arrowroot biccie too which he loves.
Leeanne - good luck on thursday, poor little man! I hope this makes him feel a lot better. do they know what has caused this?
I gave N mashed banana and avocado for dinner last night, i had stayed away from avo as it was too rich for hima while back - but he LOVED it this time and it stayed down (sorry for TMI but ot came out other end this morn so i know it went through!!).
ok busy day today - want to get things done before we head off to surfers tomorrow.
-
Pregpan, I am still living life vicariously through you LOL. Sultanas are a bit hard for them at this age - they can suck on them fine, but they can't really chew them kwim? They are horrid when they come out the other end too - they swell up and look like brown grapes *YUCK*.
Gracie, yep, kwym about the crutch. If he wasn't in disposables it would be harder again. That is one thing I am afraid of with him. Lindsay is very weary of stuff like that so it hasn't ever been a problem with him, but maybe my payback will be Alister LOL.
Cally, have you tried just ordinary vege cut into fingers and boiled? Pasta can be given at this age too now. I used big spirals or penne in a cheese sauce. When you make the vege fritters, shape them into croquettes - fingers about 6cm long and about 2cm square - my kids loved them and they were easy to hang onto as well. Possibly even BBQ chicken too.
With LP's email, I figured it bounced because she either doesn't have that email addy anymore or my email went to her spam folder. I thought if she changed email, she may have been having trouble with the big girl's mum kwim?
-
oh yeah sherie that's an explanation for the bounced email... i hope she is OK!!
that makes sense re the sultanas... a nd i will do the pasta that way this week too - i have just been giving him the tiny stars etc stirred into his puree but i think he is ready for the big pasta!!
oh dont live vicariously thru me... trust me life is pretty stressful around here!! but i am looking fwd tpo getting away tomorrow (well i hope we do go as my friends bub has had gastro too)
Gracie i also understand re the crutch, i have stopped buying all in 1s for Noah as this is always the prob. i find a pants and top work a lot better (i put a singlet suit underneath so his tum doesnt get cold!). N is also quite long i think... about 76cm last measure.
-
oh i hope lp is ok and there's nothing dodgy going on with the big girls' mum
yeah the crutch thing is a bit of an issue isn't it? i've got one set of pant and top pyjamas- maybe i'll have to pull them out and start using them. wondersuits and easysuits are just so easy for bedtime i find.
lewis has got a really really runny nose atm. is there anything i should do? (apart from wiping off his snot i mean) LOL
-
i have a heap of pjs from cotton on, they are great!
if his nose is really runny i would suggest keeping him upright and/or raising end of cot - dr said that sometimes this makes them throw up as they swallow the snot - he thought this may have happened w noah... but maybe i am paranoid bc of all the vomit i have had to contend with lately LOL!
-
You could get a tub of vicks or baby balsam (which IMO is a waste of money - as soon as they put the work 'baby' on a tub of vicks the price went up) and put a bit on his chest and tummy and if he will let you, a smidge under his nose.
-
Hi Girls,
Sherie- Not sure yet on how he will be retraining his bowel.
Gracie- I use Yukkie Bear its the same as vicks baby balsm I rub it on her singlet. I also use Dymatap. I also have a towel rolled up at the head of her bed to elivate it a bit. As for Jordy's procedure no I dont think it is like that. Apparently they put a tube down his nose into his stomach and pump this liquid in and it softens his poo so it will come out soft. It will take probally a day or 2 to work. They told me we will be in hospital for 2 or 3 days.
Pregpan- I hope you have a wonderful time away. Nope they dont know what caused it yet. But from what I have been reading its really common for toddlers.
Cally- vegie fritters sound yummy
Better go and do some work.
-
K has realised we peep through the crack in the door to check if she is sleeping yet - she has taken to standing at that corner of the cot watching out for us!
Gracie - I have just been rubbing Euky Bearub on her chest and back before bed while she has a cold.
Had our first proper morning sleep in ages today. It's not sounding good though for her second one!
Sherie - will try the big pasta next time I cook some up. I bought a microwave steamer this morning so I can more easily do vegies for her.
Pregpan - enjoy your surfers trip (hope you don't get rained in!). K loves avo, she had a finger of it last night after her dinner.
-
Pregpan what are you going to be doing up my neck of the woods (surfers)?Business or pleasure? The weather is meant to clear up, my fingers are crossed for you that it does.
Cally that is so cute that K stands up waiting for you, very cheeky.
Leanne hows work going?
Gracie when Logan had a cold we put the vicks on his feet and then put socks on him, I dont know if it worked but it was recommended to us, we also raised one end of his cot so the snot would drain out yuck!
Sherie we were thinking about getting a swing for Logan, not sure where we would hang it though as we don't have any trees.
Clare did you mange to get the Leila's photo on the bonds website?
Arte big woo hoo on the sleep, I hope W is turning a corner for you.
Target is having a big sale on Thursday, no doubt I will come home with things I dont need lol. Might have to buy DH a little present since he has been working such long hours lately. Better run and have a cuppa and relax while L is asleep.
-
Cally, I bet she gives you a big smile too LOL.
Katie, the swing comes with hooks on the end of it - first we just hung it under our verandah when we got it for Lindsay because it was in the shade, but since the kids have a swing set now I have just put it on that and took the normal swing off it.
Leanne, the yukkie bear one is made with eucalyptus isnt' it?
Guess what? I was tickling Alister earlier and he was laying across my knew, and when he threw his head back with his mouth open, lo-and-behold, he has cut another tooth!!!! Up the top on the left side - the gum has just opened so you can't quite see the tooth, but it will be through in the next day or so. I had no idea it was even ready to make an appearance. Even though he has been waking at night, its nothing like it was when he was getting the other top ones.
-
Sherie- I will have a look to see what it has in it. WTG A
Katie- Work is good. Still stressful but good.
Cally- Thats so cute and funny.:)
-
cally that is so adorable. annoying now you cant sneak ap eek at her!!! did i telll you guys about N with his PJs the other day? they are getting SO cheeky - i love it!
Katie - I am coming ip to surfers for 3 days R&R with a girlfriend and her baby boy. you will prob see us walking on the beach!!! i am looking fwd to it. dont think we will go if it is still stormy, if tyhat is the case i guess i will go shopping in melbs!
i wonder where MD is today? and Noni?? where are our biggest chatterboxes???
-
Oh what a bummer that would be Pregpan ;) I am just busting for the end of financial year sales to start LMAO.
-
hey everyone
sorry ive been lazy readung but not posting.. its such a cold n rainy day here today i'm feeling really lazy!! really needa get off my but soon though and clean up the house, although ive already swept twice i hate this weather for all the crap that gets brought in on peoples shoes grrr..
roast lamb n veges at our place tonight should suit the weather and hopefully make up for my lazyness around the house!!
oh yeah and asha is finally crawling properly hehe its very exciting lol but its difficult when the heaters a big bright orange light lol
leanne - good luck for thursday
sherie - woohoo another tooth. glad he didnt suffer as much with this one! i have no idea if asha is teething again as she wont let me look in her mouth lol.
katie - thats an interesting idea the vix on feet with socks over the top did they say why it helps?
cally - thats so cute that K stands there waiting for you lol cheeky monkey
pregpan - glad N is getting better and enjoying his food again
gracie - the gp told us to use fess to clean out the snot because it can run down and cause throat irritation
-
Ah! speak of the devil ;) Roast lamb sounds sooo yummy Noni. All we have in our deep freeze ATM is dogmeat and a few pork leg chops. FIL is going to have to do us some more sheep because its a sad state of affairs when you don't even have a roast in the freezer LOL.
-
You can just call me Little Miss Chatterbox thanks Pregpan! I don't talk THAT MUCH do I??
Another osteo visit today, we're going back in two more weeks for the last treatment woohoo! It seems to have worked, even though we've had a few rough nights, nothing like before. E looks more comfy in her cot. Also had to drag H up to the dr for an infected finger *sigh*. I told her to put some ointment on her rash but instead she scratched it so now I'm up for the doctor's fees plus a tube of bactroban. A least she's been pretty healthy so far this year!
Well I've read all your posts but absolutely nothing has stuck in my head except for cheeky Katie waiting for mummy and daddy to peek in the door LOL. Just gorgeous.
Elisabeth stands up in her cot now and bounces up and down on the mattress - just like her sister did. Lucky for me it's so entertaining I can get up and have a shower when she wakes up and then go in there and she's still happy! :)
Elisabeth's best toy right now is the unopened 18-can box of softdrinks on my kitchen floor. It's just the right height for holding onto when you stand up AND it makes a soft tinking noise when you hit it! LOL I wanted to get a can out yesterday to put in the fridge but didn't cos she's having such a good time with it!
Sherie, I'm with you - can't wait for the sales. I have some Myers-Coles gift vouchers burning a hole in my pocket, I might get myself a mix master so I never have to rub butter through flour ever ever again!
Katie, thanks for the tip re Target sale, but I'm in a foul mood with them after they told me the pay 1c for the 3rd toy thing was over and you guys were all still buying toys! It's not like Elisabeth has more than enough toys now, is it???? LOL
BTW Gracie, meant to say I second everyone's advice re the fess spray/drops and Vicks baby balsalm. Although we also use Dimetapp cos the girls in this family have crummy eustacian tubes so it usually goes like this - head cold then earinfection/throat infection/conjunctivitis. The dimetapp keeps it at just a head cold. I've been stocking up before you can't get it without a script anymore (1 Sept).
-
Noni, yay for Asha crawling - how exciting :cheer:!! We had the same prob with heaters with DD1, we just taught her "HOT!" and "NO!" and she got the idea pretty quickly.
-
LOL at Miss E being so entertained by bouncing in her cot - whatever gives you enough time to have a shower is a winner in my book. I don't have any vouchers (spent them all at the post christmas sales LOL) but I need new linen for all our beds.
We haven't had a problem with the heater in the bathroom, the first time he came in when it was on he got just close enough so he could feel the heat on his face and he dropped the bottom lip and moved away from it. Mind you he was still about 50-60cm away, it just throws out a lot of heat. So he hasn't been near it since which is great - the other kids we were constantly telling them not to go near it.
-
MD I meant it in the nicest way possible!! I just missed you!!! i LOVE chatterboxes!!! I hope i didnt offend you.
and let's face it, i am a chatterbox too!
and worse worse worse IRL
ps trip to surfers def on - i cant wait!!!! katie - if you see me make sure you come say hello (you wont be able to miss Noah's hair!)
-
thanks for all your advice re: the snot problem girls, will head off to the chemist tomorrow :)
one more question- lewis hasn't done a poo since friday morning. he's never gone this long before. should i be worried?
md- love E's slab of cans. very cute.
cally- what a cheeky little monkey!
sherie- love your ticker- crusty demon!!!
-
gracie - maybe give hima prune to bite on or some prune juice in his food? if he was just BF i would not blink an eyelid but with solids maybe he is getting a bit constipated.
see - i am a chatterbox!!!!
-
No offence taken Pregpan. :) I dooo so try to not hog the conversation! LOL We'll find out who talks more when we finally get together for a coffee, won't we ;)!
Sherie - oh, new bed linen, how Noice! I'm hankering for a new quilt cover (the old ones are faded and drear) but i can't buy one when I have the fabric in the cupboard for a proper patchwork quilt, it'll only take me about 300 hours to sew it! LOL
-
would you believe, just while i was writing that post lewis did the biggest poo!! he's so happy now :)
another question, i just read the thread on privacy on bb
sherie- do you think my username is too close to my name IRL and could be a bit of a privacy issue? should i change it and take lewis' pic off the ticker? what do you reckon?
-
Marydean, I really admire people who have the patience to sit and sew a patchwork quite large enough for a queen size bed LOL.
Gracie, I always assumed that your username was your first name till I knew what it really was because it just seemed logical kwim? As for baby pics, at this age they change so quickly, so you can't always identify from baby pics, but I took mine down because I just couldn't be bothered to have one in the ticker LOL. Some people don't mind being completely open about themselves online, but I don't want to make it easy for people to find me.
-
Thanks girls with the help with the bottles - I think I might try a sippy cup though she really doesn't even lke water from those. But still - I will try anything!! She is happy though and not underweight at all!! I'll keep reading and catch up!
-
Hi Girls,
well it's official...the first mum in our parent group is expecting #2! so i guess these bubs really are growing up and making way for the next lot! LOL!
and talking about heaters a mum in group had her little man severly burn his fingers on a towel heater rack. the poor wee thing has to have his dressing changed at the hospy everyday. needless to say the poor mum is feeling really bad. but let's face it these kids can move fast! has anyone else noticed how they have a magnetic attraction for all things perilous!
MD: i must buy a slab of something LOL!!
Noni: woo hoo Asha is on the move!
awww i am getting all emotional ATM about seeing/reading about these bubs growing up so fast! i cant believe that i am already thinking about her first birthday! i still remember the day she was born like it was yesterday!
i guess i better update her ticker photo...
-
hi everyone
Clare - wow how far along is your friend?? i cant believe our babies are old enough that we could be preg again!!! you have made me all emotional now too!
Gracie - i always thought that was your name LOL!! i read that post too and i have taken off my ticker etc, i think i could be identified with N name and birth date, and to be honest i dont like putting too much info out there. after reading it i feel a bit silly asking everyone where their names come from, i hope i didnt put anyone in a sticky situation there... ooops!
well we didnt go to surfers, i am goinh to melb tomorrow and to my friends farm for a few days. we decided that with the bad weather it was not worth the schlepp up there...the farm will be lovely and we will do lots of cooking, relaxing and playing with our babes.
N has been an angel the last few days - each night sleeo has been getting better and last night we only did a feed at 1030 and then at 5am - it has been MONTHS since i have had a night like that. he is now asleep again, and has been for 1hr 45 so far (close toa record day sleep) - i hope this doesnt mean he is getting sick? he has been a happy boy so i REALLY hope it is just that for once no teeth pain, tummy aches etc and so he can sleep well... and that we are turning a corner and NOT that he is unwell. aaah the life of a mum - worry when he does not sleep and then worry more when he does LOL! i wonder how long he will sleep for. it is lucky actually as i am working and my fdc lady is unwell today with gastro (prob from Noah - ooops i feel TERRIBLE about that) so this has given me some time to get some critical things done. i also hope my trip away doesnt break this wonderful sleep patterm he is getting into at night...
-
Pregpan: well her baby is due on the 23rd of November...so that makes her 4ish months??
wowsers though i reckon she is brave!! i dont think i would have the stamina! and yay for N sleeping! leila has also been doing the mega sleep. i think it is a weather thing. the cool change has them wanting to hibernate.
-
wow, she is brave - that is crazy!!! but would be amazing at the same time.
N is asleep AGAIN! he got up at 12 (so 2 hrs exactly) and we had lunch and went out shopping and then he had a feed again and went back to sleep at 3. i am in shock. i do think i see a runny nose.. so PLEASE make this just that he wants to sleep and not that he is sick!
ETA - well he got up after 25 mins, so i guess not another mega nap!!
-
Babies that sleep during the day - where can I get one of them?? She is just so tired and when I finally get her to sleep it's usually only one cycle. There are permanent bags under her eyes and I'm going crazy without any time to myself because all the little chores I used to be able to do while she was happily lying on the floor (eg unpack dishwasher), she's now up and trying to get into it!
OK - feeling a bit better now.
Gracie - glad he pooed for you, you'll know when he's constipated because he will cry with every push, it's really awful, K had tears running down her face and I'd check her nappy and nothing would have come out.
Screaming baby to attend to...
-
Cally can you get a gate across the kitchen? Keep K out for five minutes while you're unpacking the DW? We can't sadly, it's sort of a corner space where the gate would have to go, it wouldn't work. I keep the portacot set up with toys in it so I can park E in there for a few minutes when I just need her to stay out!!
-
pregpan- gracie is very close to my real name ;) that's why i was a little worried when i read that thread. a lot of people IRL actually only know me as gracie. whereabouts in melb is your friend's farm?
cally- that made me cringe thinking of little k trying to push out a poo :( ouch
clare- there's a lady in my mothers group who is pg again and another who has been trying for 4 months.
i've just been up to the park collecting pine cones and i've come back and lit a roaring fire. it's freezing here!
-
Pregpan, hope that N is sleeping better at night for you
Cally, I feel your pain. It is so hard to get anything done when they are 'helping' all the time.
I have figured out why people don't give curries to babies - it makes for some very unpleasant nappy changes LOL. I gave W some mild Korma on naan bread and with rice at the foodcourt yesterday and he loved it.
I think I have a blocked milk duct. My boob is really tender on one side and I can feel a big lump there. There was too much exciting stuff to look at yesterday so W didn't have a feed until 4pm so I was quite full and after he fed the sore lump was there. I have been sitting here with a hot water bottle on it and am massaging it when he is feeding. I have had a splitting headache today too so I am feeling sorry for myself.
-
Gracie, I nominate Lacey or Racey ;) as your new nickname ROFL! Stop bragging about your roaring fire, its sooooo not fair!! Hey, speaking of pinecones, I'm thinking of trying to do a natural airfreshener for E's bedroom (near the bin area ). I was thinking natural vanilla in an alcohol solution in a bowl with something dunked in it to act like a wick - pinecone was the first thing that came to mind. Do you reckon that would work?
Cally, I had the "ouch" moment when I was thinking about K too. Brought back memories, actually!
Pregpan, I'm hoping N has turned the corner for you as well.
Clare I agree, she's brave!! It took me 8 years to work up the courage to go again LOL!
Jordie, if she's not really fussed about water, try a bit of rice milk (it's sweet like breast milk). Then once she's got the hang of drinking you could go back over to water again.
ETA Leanne, will be thinking of you and J tomorrow. Hope it goes well and it's the first step to really fixing the problem.
Arte - ow re the blockage. I hope the headache isn't the start of mastitis. Get to a dr straightaway if you start feeling flu-ey. Giving it a good massage under a hot shower helps as well. I saw my dr yesterday too re horrible nipple pain (it's now got a bleeding blister on it!!! Ow and she's given me ABs but also took a swab cos it's been going on and on). I can't say it's feeling better yet but I have great confidence that it will soon.
-
not MIA - just sick as a dog LOL. have been on and off briefly today but my brain is fried because Paige had been up all night vomiting. Talk soon lovlies.
-
mmmm racey or lacey you reckon?? pmsl
i don't know, i'm trying to think of a really pretty girl's name as we speak....
i love the pine cone idea. pine cones are so versatile! i love them
-
Oh no what thread did I miss? My screen name is my real name, maybe I should be changing it!!
Cally - I burst out laughing imagining cheeky K standing in her cot waiting for a glimpse of you peeking through the door! What a cutie. Maddie hasnt been sleeping during the day either and also looks constantly tired. Do you have a major drama (like us!) trying to get her to finally go to sleep, being overtired?
Arte - Hope it isnt mastitis, are you feeling any better at all?
Gracie - Maddie has a terrible runny nose atm too that I've just put down to teething, gosh its horrible though. I havent really been doing much for it besides wiping her nose, whoops am I a bad mummy!? lol
Sherie - Hope you are better soon, are you all sick? Re the FP swing, is that the one that you can hang from the patio? Granny just bought one for Maddie that I am yet to put up, so good to see they come in handy for hanging out the washing. It will also be good for gardening I guess.
Clare - WOW to think we could be pregnant with our next bubs! Ahhhh OMG No thanks lmao. Ouch that burn sounds bad. :(
Pregpan - We had a really stormy day here a few days ago and Maddie spent hours in bed. So I agree with the weather making them want to be cosy and sleep in bed.
MD - I'm not too sure about your airfresher idea, I guess it would work? Just make sure DD doesnt knock it over!
Hi to everyone else, sorry for the lack of personals, I worked today even though its not a 'working day' for me. So I am pretty tired and wanting to go to bed early tonight.
-
MD - No, the kitchen has an angled walkway that would be difficult to put a gate up between it and the family room. Unfortunately don't really have the space to set up portacot / playpen.
Hayley - she is generally fine going to sleep in the evenings, even if she is a bit overtired. Which is good. And I wouldn't have minded yesterday if I'd known she was going to pull a 12 hour stretch last night so I could catch up on some sleep!
Sherie - hope you feel better.
Arte - fingers crossed you don't get mastitis.
Better go and do some cooking while she is still down - found out last night that cous cous is most definitely not a finger food, what a mess!
-
hey everyone just logging on to let you know i'm still alive lol.. been reading but not posting..
ashas really crawling now never in the same place i put her for more than a few seconds lol shes funny when she wants something she crawls to where she thinks she can reach it and just lays down and stretches out to grab it lol.. anyway might bbl mwah mwah
-
Noni, next time you post it will be your happy 2000th! W is all over the place now too, no bit of floor crud is too small!
MD, W had a vaccination today so I asked about the sore boob. She called a LC who said just to apply heat, massage and make sure it is emptied and it should come right. She also said that Vitamin C helps to protect against problems like that.
Sherie, hope you are feeling better
Haley, I think I have missed some thread on privacy too
Cally, we have an angled doorway to the kitchen here too, it is a pain
Well, I am having a minor pregnancy scare. The past couple of days I have had mid-afternoon nausea so I took a test yesterday afternoon thinking it had been about 3 weeks since we had DTD. It was negative but today as I was having another bout of afternoon queasy-ness today I realised it was only about two weeks ago. Now my mind is trying to link the mild cramping, headaches and nausea. I think I will test with FMU tomorrow to stop all the what-ifs.
As much as AF is a pain, it would be reassuring to have her back so I wasn't always in limbo wondering if every little cramp and twinge is a pregnancy sign.
