guys i'm thinking of getting a doula so that dp can concentrate on looking after lewis at the time of the birth. what do you guys think?

clare- i would be soooo peeved at dh! i hate when people come over and i'm dressed in pj's (about 15 hours of the day) lol

Rainy I think a doula is an awesome idea. Its a shame I am not in Vic or you could have been one of my trainee births (once I actually get around to starting my course lol).
MD glad the baptism went well. Sounds like lots to do at your place.
MM yeah Logan was crawling at around 7-8 months (I cant remember how bads that lol). He is cruising the furniture now and will walk if we hold his hands.
No plans here today, it is meant to rain again so my billion piles of washing will have to wait another day. Think we might just kick back today and do nothing.
Doula's a great idea Rainy. Extra support always great. But do you mean your DH will not be at the birth and will be staying home to look after Lewis? Or are you planning a home birth? I'm not sure i could do it without my DH there!
I dont get those shows like 'in the night garden' where the characters make silly noises instead of talking?!
Clare- i too would have killed my DH! An hours warning would be better than none! We had DH's boss knock on the front door when we both had gastro the other week. DH answered but i was too busy throwing up. I was sooo embarressed, the house was a mess, and i couldn't drag myself away from the toilet!
Katie- My days sounds just like yours, i was going to stay in my PJ's, but all this talk of surprise guests, i think i better get dressed! :lol:
Does anyone have any problems with biting or pinching? Lu is getting another tooth and bites me, on the arm, shoulder, tummy, anywhere! I say no and put her down. but i'm not sure if i am doing the right thing. After all she is only 9 months and i'm not sure she knows the extent what she's doing.
She also pinches while she's BF'ing, or having a cuddle and tired. it really hurts, but as she is relaxing and drifting off i don't say anything just try and hold her hand, so she cant pinch. Should i be doing something different? any tips?

sorry i havnt been on much have my friend up from melbourne so i wont be on much for the next week thought i should jump on and let u all know that we are fine ad just enjoying the company!!
as for the stinky house its not really stinky anymore i have to say since weve been cooking lots (actually have food in the house now) it smells more like what weve had for dinner than anything lol because its a very open house :) that i can deal with!!!
falguni - i know what u mean with those shows like tellytubbies too.. apparantly they are very educational and easier to take in because the characters dont say much.. (though i had tellytubbies because they are pronouncing real words wrong rather than just saying silly little made up things).. since we moved asha hasnt watched tv shes just happy playing which is GREAT!! my mum gave her a dora the explorer dvd because she used to watch it at the old place buti am saving it for if shes sick or something.. we have the same thing with pinching but i have no idea whatto do sorry lol i just tell her no and pull her hand away but we havnt had much success sorry...

Clare - v excited to meet you and MD when you are here!!! and i will make sure N is in his best cords for you!!! ha ha!!! my mum is here this weekend so best for me would be sat morning before she arrives if we can make that work?? or friday sometime on my day off? oh v exciitng! do you find the bugaboo ok for off roading? i dont think it is THAT good on uneven surfaces... dont get me wrong though i am so in love with it!! i also live right near capt cook crescent - weird we were practically neighbours before... Ange - N also pichnes and scratches quite a lot. it HURTS!! i figure he just doesnt know any better but sometimes i get frsutarted by it. esp at 3am!!
Arte - you are a total crack up!!!
N has nappy rash now - poor thing.. it is just little bumps right around his bum.. (is this nappy rash) - he hasnt had it before. have been using the weleda cream for the last 2 days but ot goingaway.. any tips??? i hope that is it?? he was up ALL NIGHT, not like him i wonder if that was bothering him? i also thought maybe he is making developmental leaps?? he is trying hard to crawl and also larning new things like high 5s, pincer grip with 2 fingers, even more babbling (no MAMA yet though!!) etc etc... i dont know! DH took most of the burden last night, i am wracked with guilt!!
ok better go, will be on and off today so will try to write more later - am at work though and HEAPS to do as didnt get lot done last week with N being sick...
Pregpan, if it was *just* nappy rash, it should be starting to improve by now. Maybe you could try bathing him with no soap and letting him have some nappy free time and see how that goes.
Noni, that's great you are all settled in now. I bet Asha doens't know what to do with herself now she has all this space.
Ange, I don't have problems with pinching while feeding, but he has to be holding something while he feeds - usually the collar of my shirt or necklace and it drives me mental. You could try a feeding necklace which is just a big gaudy beady necklace that they play with while feeding.
Katie, we have rain here too - 21mm so far but I got all the washing out of the way before it came LOL - I hate having a backlog because it takes so much longer to get it all done. Logan sounds like he is going really well :)
Marydean, so happy to hear that the baptism went well - I would love to see a pic of the divine Miss E in her finery.
G, definately get a doula. I know you had it pretty tough last time with L so I think you would benefit a lot from having one. As for girls names, my faves were Maeve, Niamh, Clair and Lucinda, but DH wouldnt' have a bar of them LOL. Although if Alister was a girl he was going to be Clair, but only because DH couldn't think of anything else. Lindsay was going to be a Hayley Maree had he been a girl.
H, I don't think Miss M will be a bully, just assertive which will serve her well in all those department store sales in the future LMAO.
Leanne, please log in and tell us all about the party - I'm dying to hear how it went (and a pic or two of the big boys wouldn't go astray either :) )

The rain has been lovely - always a bummer to have rain in the holidays though, but it would have been worse at the end when they were already stir crazy LOL. They are with DH at his parents house ATM - Dh slaughtered 2 lambs yesterday so they went with him to cut them up so I will have a freezer full of yummy lamb again. Things are pretty desperate when a farmers wife doens't even have a lamb roast in the freezer LMAO. Not that I could cook one anyway because the blooming oven is on the blink again.
I am really hoping that my package from the US should arrive today - so G, I will let you know what the sizing is like. I already have a new shopping list for them already for the girls this time LOL, so maybe it might be best if you have another boy ;)
The funniest thing happened last night. I was in the kitchen getting dinner ready (slow cooked silverside - delish!) and I could hear the big kids in the loungeroom with the popper bike. Now they get on it and push each other really fast on it, but when I opened the door the bike went wizzing past with Alister on it!!! he was hanging on for dear life LOL but he had this huge grin on though and he thought it was great. The kids are in stitches laughing at him. As much as my heart was in my throat though, it was hillarious to see.
he is getting really good with his walking - almost to the point where I could say that he is more of a walker than a crawler, but he does most of it when he is the only one here with me or if the others are in bed already. last night he was up for 1/2hr after the big kids went to bed and he spent most of the time walking from one piece of furniture to the other. So I think the kids must unnerve him or something and he is more confident on his own.

Well the party was great I am still exhausted. The boys were really really excited all day and it was really lovley. Still cannot believe they are 3. So now I am straight in to planning Olivias. I have handed out most of the invites already. We are doing the same as the boys just a BBQ Lunch. OMG the boys got so many toys and as usual I get so caught up with the moment and went overboard. I think we need a bigger house.
My poor feet and back are aching still. Sorry for the whinging...
I have to go as Olivia is now crying.

thanks for the tips sherie - i have been giving him nappy free time and also we dont use soap on him (dermaveen only, lots of sensitive skin in this fam) so i wonder if it isnt nappy rash??? what else could it be? could he have something from the cold/flu??? oh i hope we donthave to go back to the dr... i will see how he is later today when i get him from FDC, je was up a lot of the night so i hope it wasnt bothering him? maybe something fungal? who knows.... it is like red around his bottom and then has little tiny raised bits... not big blisters or anything - anyone who has ideas let me know!!
Leanne - the party sounds wonderful and i am like you and will prob go totally overboard for N's bdays - i love to cater and entertain!!! we will have 2 parties for N this yr - 1 here and 1 in melbourne... so already overboard!!! hope your feet and back get better soon.
Sherie - that is such a funny story about alister!!!! and the popper bike!! wow to be the youngest of 4 he will be so daring!!! it is nice that he explores more when he is alone with you- i notice N is a lot more 'daring' - well as daring as you can be when you dont even crawl - when we are alone with him and a lot more shy when there are other ppl there.
ETA - had a look at some stuff ont he web and i reckon N may have a yeast infection - does this cause them pain??? if not i will see howit goes in the next day or 2 and then take to dr if it hasnt cleared up.. or is there something over the counter i can use?? do you think this woul dbe related to the flu he had? poor little guy.

Pregpan, the poxvirus that the kids have started out as small red lumps, then turned into big cheesy looking pimples - if it gets like that it is the same as my lot have. if it is a yeast thing then it could be fixed with some daktarin or similar, but not sure if you can put it in that area - maybe just go to the chemist and ask there? Our chemist is really great and is often my first stop before going to the Dr - if he doesn't know what it is or can't give you something OTC then he sends you off to the Dr. I don't think it is related so much to the flu, but more that his immunity is pretty low ATM. It can take a while to get it back to 100%. It could be itchy or just a bit sore from when wee gets on it, so it could be causing him some irritation.
Pregpan- There is an anti-fungal cream for babies bums called Daktozin, made by the Daktarin people. Although a chemist i went to recommended i use Daktarin to clear a presistent thrush (yeast infection). The rash was small red spots......
ETA- the Daktozin has zinc oxide (in sudocream etc.) in it as well, where as the Daktarin has more of the anitfungal ingredient but none of the zinc oxide......
Leeane- i bet you're exhausted! Wow, i can;t believe you have handed out invites for Olivia's birthday! You are super organised, maybe i should take a leaf out of your book.

Pregpan: oh wowsers we must have been really close!! i lived in meehan gardens!! griffith shops were my local and i used to buy leila's nappies from the organic shop, and i also bought the ellaroo sling from there as well!!
i think the bugaboo isnt too bad on the off road. i have used much worse! when i hired a pram in QLD, the blasted thing could barely negotiate a shopping aisle! but i think that i have been spoilt...
Sorry that poor N is having a hard time of it! hopefully, the chemist can sort it out!
Also, just for the record, Leila was pretty psycho in the weeks leading up to crawling...and then once she started, went back to her good humoured self...maybe this may be similar for N???
MM: yeah, we splashed out on the bugaboo. we were given a cot and changetable as hand-me-downs, so told DH that because we saved a fortune, i could spend one on a fancy pram...he ran with it! LOL!

clare - hilarious - griffith shops my local - and i also buy nappies from mountain wholefoods and i also bought the ellaroo ring sling there! this is FREAKY!
in fact when N was just born and DH and I were both home we noticed a couple walking w a baby in a bugaboo in our area - a red one (if your pram is red that is freaky - mine is sand) - dont tell me this was you???? each time we saw them we were driving along and i wanted to stop to take a peek at the baby and say SNAP on the pram LOL!!!

thanks for all your advice re the doula- i've found one on BB that lives on the mountain so i was just about to give her a call when bugalugs woke up.
in regards to dp being at the birth- to be honest, i think a doula would be better. he was good but i think he felt a little useless.
he also got a hold of the gas and then passed out on the bed for 4 hours during my labour.
i think he would be better utilised looking after lewis. then i could relax more knowing that lewis was happy and i could just concentrate on the job at hand iykwim?
well i went out to breakfast this morning and being the big mouth that i am told me friend that i was pg and guess what? she is pg too! i'm so excited for her. we think we're due around the same time. it's her first so she's feeling a little overwhelmed but i'm just so happy for her and happy that we'll get to spend more time together now with our new bubs!
pregpan and clare- that would be so freaky if you two had seen each other before.
i hope all you canberra girls have a fantastic meet up. i wish we could all meet up some time :(
katie- i would've loved to have you as my doula! move to melbourne girl!

ange- i wish i had the guts to have a home birth, but tbh my birth was pretty horrific last time and there's just no way i could do it at home. i was considering going to a birth centre this time, but as i was so overdue last time, i would've been kicked out anyway. i'm afraid of that happening again so i'm just going to go back to the hospital. hopefully things are better this time. hopefully my baby is not 10lbs3oz like its brother!:rolleyes:

We have a pincher here when feeding. Also thinks that bmilk is finger food, always trying to slip a finger in. I just hold her arm down when she does it. She bit my leg yesterday and I probably overreacted as I was so surprised, but then just did a very firm 'No, that hurts mummy' and put her down and walked away.
DD and DH asleep at the moment - DH stayed up all night watching the tennis, so at least I got a little lie in this morning as it wasn't finished by the time DD got up so he gave her breakfast.
Rainy - I think a doula is a wonderful idea. What great news that your friend is pregnant too!

Pregpan - did you ask FDC lady if she thought it was nappy rash (figure she would have seen a few in her time). We use Penaten cream (comes in a blue tin), the only thing that seems to work on K. She pops up with a rash very easily.
Clare - I can't believe DH invited someone to dinner and didn't tell you! I would have totally freaked out. At least you got 'some' warning on the overnight visitors.
Trillian - sounds like A could be the next proper walker. We borrowed a push walker from the toy library for K - she takes one step, then walks to the side of it and then sits down. I've tried demonstrating but she hasn't got the hang of it yet. Oh well, 4 more weeks until we take it back.
How's everyone going with wiping their teeth down? I was trying in the bath last night but she bit my finger 4 times before I gave up - she was much more interested in sucking the water out of the washcloth. DH and I are going to the dentist tomorrow so will check with him if he has any suggestions.
Well DH is arranging a new backyard (kind of) this holidays. He spent the afternoon getting quotes for topsoil and grass and we are going to get edging around all the gardens - will be so much better. Hopefully it's all done by K's birthday party!

Rainy I have never even been to Vic. If you do have your DH there then your doula should be able to guide him and show him the best way to support you. My DH felt useless too, I wish we had of stuck with our doula but decided not to since my sisters were going to try and make it up for L's birth.
Pregpan maybe you will be able to spot Clare when you see her before actually being introduced.
Cally we need to do some yard work to perhaps I could borrow your DH lol???
Better run and make sure L isn't getting into to much trouble.
Cally- i havn't been teeth wiping as much as i should either, she bites me too! I give her a toothbrush in the bath that she chews on, better than nothing, but i guess i should persisit with the wiping.
Gracie- I don't have the guts either. ;) i thought about a birth centre too, i would love to hang out in a birthing pool for a bit of my labour! but i too would have been booted out with my PE. I have full respect for my OB, he was so fantastic. There is a good chance if he wasn't so on the ball that things could have turned out much differently. Will def be seeing him again. I hear ya on the men being a bit useless sometimes, (although we did Rhea Dempseys pain workshop which was awsome for DH) but i would hate for DH to miss out on the birth, it's pretty amazing. I have never left Lu with anyone, (overprotective mum! :D ) so maybe i'll change my mind when the time comes!!! :lol:

It was a lovely sunny day here, so bundled Lu into the pram and headed off on a walk through the bush. We were about 4 km's from home, when a storm blew in, i had no raincoat, just a little pram cover for Lu. The pram started leaking and dripping on her face, she was not impressed and started screaming! So i took her out and we huddled in a hollow tree fro half an hour until DH drove past on his way home!!! Lucky i had one of the dogs with me, she barked when he was coming so i ran out onto the road. He was very surprised to find a dripping wet wife and a baby wrapped in plastic! :rofl:
I am exhausted now.

just have to do quick updates atm as u know have a friend staying.. shes still asleep atm lol half her luck her bub goes to bed later and sleeps in!! so jelous!! managed to get asha to do 4 hours or so in her cot last nightafter about a week of refusing to go in at all so pretty happy with that!! if i put her in there earlier i think she would have gone longer too i was just being lazy letting her sleep in the loungeroom lol.. shes pulling herself up on absolutely everything she thinks she can now lol whether its a good idea or not and its still only dadadada here no muma :( - even though dada is a moron lol this morning we had a fight over bloody sunglasses lol he wanted to take mine because he couldnt find his and i said its not my fault u lost 2 pairs in a row lol which obviously struck a nerve because he resorted to f**k you then and went on about how it wasnt fair for me to say things like that when he was getting ready for work.. like hes so special because he goes to work! really gets me when he thinks its more important for him not to be upset just because he goes to work grrrrrr he tries to get out of everything now too ohhh i am sop tired can i leave the dishes work makes me soooo tired blah blah blah and then he sits on his ass and plays playstation.. what does he think i do all day anyway? sit on my bum? grrrrrrrr men!!! he slammed the door so hard as he left asha cried and a photo frame fell and smashed talk about over reaction!!!! ahhhhh well..

oh noni - i know those arguments over the tiniest thing that get you so riled up!!! i think they are the product of sleep deprivation and i also think in these days with working and looking after baby etc generally BOTH partners think they are the ones doing the most!! well that is the case here sometimes anyway...we also had a big argument here last night, wont go into all the details - let me just say it isnt easy to balance both of us working and being v career driven.. and looking after N etc... and it certainly is not easy or really possible for women to 'have it all'.... grrrr grrrr grrrr!!
Clare - that is SO bizarre!!! i wish we knew each other too.... i told DH about it, he said i sound like a stalker saying i saw you - but i think it is perfectly normal as there are so few bugaboos here that that is why i noticed... i hope i dont sound freaky!!! anyway looking fwd to meeting you and MD this weekend. and YAY YAY YAY cally can join too - it will be so fun for all of us to meet up. I will send around a PM now to work out location and time...
N had a really wakeful night again last night, he seemed to be in pain so we ended up giving him panadol at about midnight and he slept til 5ish... so it ended up not that bad but i dont like giving him panadol. hmm - i wonder if it is that rash? it seems to be clearing up a bit... i will look again after FDC tonight and if it is still there and the same i think i will take him to the GP (or chemist - good idea sherie).
ok at work again so best be off to get things started for the day - bbl.

Pregpan, sometimes the nappy rash can be a bit fungal, try some canesten and sigmacort together, that will knock most resistant bum rashes on the head.

thanks for the tip MD - i have some canasten from when he had a bit of a fungal rash on his neck (too many rolls!!!) - can i just mix some of that into nappy rash cream and see if it works???

lewis has been up every single hour last night. i am so friigggin tired. i'm freaking out that it's because i'm pg and my supply has dropped or something and he's hungry. it's just not like him to be so wakeful. he's not sick and he's not teething. do you think i should ring the aba or something? i can't go on like this. i feel like i'm about to fall over with tiredness...

Rainy, definitely ring the ABA, they will have some good advice for you. In the meantime try to get some rest no matter when or how!!! You could try doing some extra feeds and also make sure all the solids you are given him are good energy dense foods, and maybe do a snack.

Noni: i hear you sista. the arguments when they are really about nothing tend to be the most dramatic, as everyone is generally tired and frustrated and we just project it onto something ridiculous (like lost sunnies LOL!). lorenzo and i had an argo the other month and we both realised that we had no idea what we were angry about!! talk about crazy!

Fight here this morning too - DH didn't get up until 8:30 when I was up at 6, the highchair was still dirty, I emptied vege fritter all through the washing machine, spilt shoe polish on the washing machine, the washing took over an hour instead of 45 mins and I wanted to go to mothers group etc ..... Burst into tears at mothers group too, but felt better afterwards. AF arrived yesterday so that might have had something to do with it. Also frustrated that DD is now sleeping all night (7-6) and I am still exhausted. Wondering what it's going to be like back at work in a little bit over 2 months.
OK, enough about me.

RF - OMG Lewis was a ten pound bub!? Gosh no wonder you want a doula this time. Did you have a long labour with Lewis? I dont know much about Doula's but definately look into getting one if you think that would help you. I am SO freaking clucky these days its not funny. I am on the pill though and NOT coming off (until at least mid next yr) because I think I could so easily persuade DP to try for another bub. I swear though having all these pregnant ladies around me (two at work) is making me sooooo clucky. I think I want twins...lmao. Whoa what if you have two in there!? YAY! Also I hope you have a decent night of sleep with Lewis, teeth maybe? Maybe try some nurofen if he is waking lots.
Cally - Oh sorry to hear about your bad day. Vege fritter through the wash what a pain. Re your tiredness, maybe you need more iron, take some supplements maybe? You know what, you will be fine back at work. I've had nights where Maddie has had shocking sleep (and therefore me as well) yet I've had to get up and go to work, and you just deal with it and do it iykwim. Its not always easy I must admit. You arent going back FT though are you? If you can remember I really struggled with going back to work, more so with being away from Maddie, but once I got into the flow of it and established a little routine on the days I work, gosh I really enjoy being at work now. Just to get out & have a gossip with the girls. & Maddie has no problems at daycare. You guys will be fine. Re teeth, I bought Maddie a toothbrush for use from 4 months, and we just give it a go in the bath every night. She thinks its funny.

Maddie is starting to move...well kinda. She has now figured out how to get on all fours, and rocks back and fourth, and moves a little forward. So I dont think it will be too long before she crawls. SO EXCITED! I am getting a sore throat, P off stupid bugs. I've been dosing up big time on the vit E & echinacea.

cally - vegetable fritter in the wash doesn't sound great - i've put breast pads through the wash twice in a week - all those gel bits end up through everything. I've only just bought Hannah a tooth brush. I let her play with it tonight - just letting her chew it for a while. That is fantastic that K is sleeping through the night. A MCHN once told me that it can take a number of months of sleeping well before you catch up on all that lost sleep.

Clare - i can't believe your dh brought home a dinner guest without mentioning it!! You must keep the house looking beautiful, because my dh would be too embarrassed to bring home anyone unannounced - the house usually looks like a bombs gone off!!!

Well I am freezing this morning... My office heater takes ages to warm up.
Glad you all enjoyed to boys photo. We got the cake made this year... I find making birthday cakes very stressful although I am going to make Olivia's. Also I am trying very hard to be more organised. I am thinking that if I am organised my life wont be so caotic.lol.
Jordy Poo Update- Dr said that he is going really well but we have to have the movicol for another 2 months then go back to him and we will then start to cut it back. He said if we stop the movicol now he might just go straight back to being blocked up.
MD- I am so glad the baptism went so well and can not wait to see the photos. Bummer about DH being away. How long is he away this time for. My DH is away from the 22nd for a couple of days then in Sept he is off to Vegas for 10days for work and he comes back just before my birthday so I told him to buy me some Baby Phat Hand Bags.

G, I got the clothes yesterday!!! I was so excited LMAO. If I were you, I would definately get the 18-24mth size for him. I got a mix of both 12-18mth and 18-24mth for Alister and he will get more wear out of the bigger ones, whereas the 12-18 ones will only just do the summer if I'm lucky. They aren't wider either, just a bit longer. Do you think L is fussy and wakeful because your new pg hormones are changing your milk already? Apparently it is normal for them to go through a period like that when you are pg again.
Cally, big hugs coming your way hun. We have all had ****ty days like that so we can all sympathise. I hope today is much better for you.

Marydean, how have things been going sleep-wise for you since QE2?
Not much going on here. There was a bit more rain overnight, and I did a heap of washing last night thinking that today was going to be fine, but it is awful outside and threatening to rain again. I have had a gutfull of my washing machine too - it will eitehr just stop midcycle for some reason, not drain the water so it rinses with the dirty wash water or it wont spin. When we get our FTB top up I am buying a new one, but I don't think I can last that long.
Tomorrow I am off for my scan and hopefully after that I will know what is going on with me. The timing is good too - 4 days before AF is due so the lining should be nice and thick.
