We love it when new people join in! more the merrier and more excuses for chatting! LOL!
Pregpan: re the toys a good friend told me yesterday that one of the best airtrip toys she used for her 1 year old were the magnetic toys. she had one that the magnetics were on a board and they fit perfectly on the tray...kept him amused for ages. she also said that a great idea is to have a bag of 'curios'...ie small toys that they havent played with before and basically drag them out one at a time...sooo, maybe more shopping in store for us?!! i need to stock up big time for our italy trip!
as for birthday toys we have a couple of things (jeepers only 9 days away!!): we have the small ladybug wheely, a wooden drum and a hammer and balls set. i can recommend the wooden walkers. leila has one and thinks she is a champion with it (she toddles from one side of the room to the other like a 'big' girl!). ours was from ikea...
G: LOL! at your hammock shennanigans!! that is so funny! hey look i reckon there are somethings that are worth their weight in gold...we bought a moses basket and stand to the tune of $350 and although we only used it for a couple of months it absolutely saved us!
MD: bummer about the reaction to the fruit! have you tried things like watermelon? it is also good cold when they are teething...
we also do tinned peaches and apricots. but maybe they are too strong? hmm not much help on that one i'm afraid!
LOL! at our DHs taste in clothing! Mine is EXACTLY the same. today we were getting ready to go out and he had her in a wondersuit and a grotty size 3 (umm i have no idea where that one is from! seriously!) jumper. I was like: 'i dont think so'.
AFM: well we went and spent a fortune at the Baby and Kids market...i picked up some AMAZING clothing bargains!! so proud of myself. i got her a gorgeous 'zoo emporium' bolero, a minihaha ra ra skirt for summer, a gorgeous fully reversible pinafore and curdoroy set, the hammer and ball bench, musical bells, and a whole bunch of other musical instrument things, some gorgeous hairclips oh the list goes on! I love the baby and kids market!!
only problem now is that i am exhausted. so i sent DH, Leila and the dawg on a walk...they were meant to be back by 6.30......hmmmmm. so i guess i will have the cranky pants express arriving at any moment! LOL!
hey have you guys got the bubs toothbrushes??? i think i am being a bad mummy as i havent got any yet??
oh and another question: what age did/are you guys putting the kids in the 'big' bed? leila has worked out how to drop the side of the cot so i am loathe to buy a new cot, but at the same time thinking she is still quite a way off from upgrading...
Nice work on the clothing buys, sounds like you had a ball buying up big. I've been checking out all the sites you guys have been recommending for toys and have had to fully restrain myself from buying EVERYTHING!!! I love those wheely bug things...esp the ladybug one. Might have to drop the hint to the grandparents..hehe
As for the toothbrush, I got S the three pack that you change when they get more teeth. So it goes from a rubbery bristly type thing (technical term) to a really soft bristle and then to the next stage which were not at yet so can't remember what it looks like. I read somewhere that bubs needs to visit the dentist by the time they are one. I'm freaking about that...S will prob bite the dentists hand off inbetween squealing and wiggling.
Sarah just plays around with the toothbrush a bit in the bath and I'll give her teeth a quick brush when she lets me. No toothpaste yet tho, not until they are 2 I think.
WELCOME ANDIE - look fwd to getting to know you and all about your boys!
Clare - LOL re more shopping for the plane.. i am putting tog a little bag of curios now.. though it is only 6 hrs so should not need too much... and it is startying at 6.30pm so i am hoping to get at least a little sleep from him... when are you going to Italy??? Love the sound of the stuff you got from the market - and DH still thought about a wondersuit LOL!!!
N has become a real explorer now that he is on the move.. still not properly crawling but he can get where he wants and now he knows wjat he wants. he had a ball unpackinga ll the little drawers on our coffee table this arvo - now i have a HUGE mess to clean up but was gorgeous to see... he also rubbed a mushed up cruskit all over a dress in country road today while i was shopping... i owned up to it and they were v nice about it. he was giggling the whole time iw as telling them what happened..
I have the same toothbrushes for Jack, Kate.
Alex uses toothpaste. If I don't give him kids toothpaste he will try & use mine. Found him sucking a tube off adults toothpast one day.
Thanks ladies for the welcome.
Jack has 31 days until he is 1 .. has 8 teeth & has a molar trying to get through. He has many restless nights, unless he sleeps with mummy.
Well i'll try posting again... and maybe this time will be more successful! DH came out to put the heater on for me (still no wireless ), and in doing so ripped out the internet connection just as i hit send! arrrghhhh! and it's always the awesome ones you lose LOL!
Pregpan: ha ha! i have soo had the clothing incident happen too! unfortunately i wasnt as honest! leila was in the sling and as i was looking through the racks she was sucking on a trouser leg! in my fright i just shoved it back in and ran! oh i am so brave!
were you in the country road in town? i have to say that the baby clothes section is just so darn nice! i bought some of the best summer clothes from there for her last season.
Andie: darn those teeth! LOL! with Leila it's almost a good week of crappy nights before the little things come out. what remedies do you try? we have the brauers and the weleda and the good ol' bonjela...we are pulling out all stops! i am still very tempted to try the amber necklaces...hhmmm or is that too byron bay? LOL!
Kate: ah yes! i do love the shopping splurges. the problem with those baby and kids markets is that they are alot like IKEA...everything is much cheaper than anywhere else, but you find that you still manage to spend too much! but i think we did pretty well on stocking up for summer...i bought sz 1 stuff, but i think i was too keen...she is still in 00...looks ginormous! (there's my technical word of the day LOL!).
ohh thanx for the toothbrush tips! where did you get them from? will search around tomorrow...
hmmm i think leila would like the dentist. we are there often enough! (i just recently had braces put on....oh sexy baby!)
i can highly recommend the wheely bugs. the great thing about them in comparison to other ride ons is that they go in all directions (it is set on casters...). so great for avoiding frustrated child syndrome stuck against the wall! MD posted a link not so long ago for youtube...just type wheely bug in teh search engine and the clip shows up....looks like fun!
cassius - we got a toothbrush for asha but the only reason we did was because i caught her with dps in her mouth brushing her teeth haha.. we got hers from the chemist its a really soft one said 4 - 24mths on it and i dnt give her toothpaste. she just plays with it in the bath and occassionally has a bit of a brush with it lol..
andie - welcome wow eight teeth.. asha only has 4 lol..
pregan - lol @ noah laughing about smearing the cruskit!! great to hear hes gettin around now!
kate - our dentist told us there wasnt much point in going to the dentist until they are five unless they are having any problems with their teeth.. not sure if other dentists see kids earlier tho..
hi to everyone else bit tired today asha decided shed like to get up early and is now winging for i have no idea what reason...
maybe tmi but last night dp and i decided to "try for a baby" well it was more in the heat of the moment than anything but weve both been really wanting another baby with a few doubts there too.. at the last minute i freaked out and started asking him "Are you sure" lol he asked me the same thing and i ended up with the response "i dont know" lol what happened to me?? i lost my nerve and made him pull out lol which is not fool proof anyway and i may still be pregnant coz i am somewhere in the middle of my cycle but now i am just really confused?? ok winge over lol sorry for the tmi!!
morning everyone!
Clare - yep was in the city CR, they only just opened in woden too so i have to pop there as they put a dress on hold fr me there... i LOVE their kids stuff too, tho I mist say the girls stuff is so much better than the boys... i still manage to spend a packet everytiem i go in there. btw have any of you seen peter alexander had baby/kid stuff now??? soooo cute. i got N a little suit from there yest, not PJs but for the day - adorable stuff!
Noni - i guess fate will tell....
N is also getting tooth number 7... he is a drool factory... but the good news is that it cant be bothering too much atm as last night he SLEPT THROUGH totally for the first time ever!! yep 7am to 6.30pm with NO settles.... i hope this is the new him!! tho i am schlepping him to melb tomorrow and then bali on sat night so i am sure that will undo his wonderful work!!! at least i know he CAN do it!!
Go Noah!!! They have some great wooden trolley pushers at Sprout in Canberra Centre (part of the chemist opposite SupaBarn). Will have to check out Peter Alexander when I am up next week.
Welcome Andie!!
K has a toothbrush, it is just a Tommee Tippee one that came with a hair brush, nail clippers etc. She plays with it in the bath and during clothes changes. Will occasionally let me give her teeth a quick brush. I heard that cheese is really good for their teeth too.
Clare - I'm hoping Granny gets us a wheely bug for birthday!
My DH must be against the grain - DD is usually dressed quite well when he does it. The PJ's are kept in a separate drawer to the clothes though which helps.
MD - bummer about the reaction to blueberries.
Well we have had 2 truckloads of dirt delivered so far this morning. 2 more today, 3 tomorrow, bobcat tomorrow, garden edging guy on Wednesday and turf on Friday! Our garden is going to look so good by next week and then I get to do the fun stuff, going out and buying plants!
How are other bubs with bread/toast? DD just licks the spread off and chucks it away. Very frustrating as a sandwich is such an easy lunch yet she doesn't eat it.
Cally: yep, leila is the same. licks of the spread, then sucks the toast and throws. this is a new habit...in fact she has been developing quite a few new habits...usually to show her will!
Noni: ohhh! I guess like what PP said, only time will tell. but it is nice that both you and DH are on the same page re wanting babies!
Pregpan: i am soo checking out peter a. now! ha ha ha! ohh a country road in woden! i knew i shouldnt have left!
Cally: i love that sprout shop! so many nice things! and i love that you can buy molotex nappies. here in melbourne they only have online. same with the safties nature nappies...
AFM: well we had the worst night. L woke up at 1am and didnt settle until 3.40am. I have been trying to not feed to settle, but by 3.20 i gave up...bad i know, but i was just exhausted. not sure what to do. i think a read of baby love is in order....
ooh i may have led you up the garden path re peter a, it is a small but gorgeous range... i liked it though!
i LOVE sprout at canberra centre - damn i meant to pop in there yest, they have such good toys!! i am sure there will be a shopping ban after BALI so i better get anything i want now ha ha ha!!
Noah has also started to throw food - he used to be so compliant LOL and now is really trying to 'express' himself with all these new tricks. it is hard not to laugh... though i made that mistake when he blew raspberries w food in his mouth and now he wont stop that!! yep he licks the spread off toast now, but sometimes he will eat it (esp fruit toast)
Rainy, LMAO that we are both pinning all our hopes on each other. W is a mixed bag now, sometimes we have a few 6+ nights in a row then he has a few 3-4 wake up nights. It actually makes the 6 wake up nights harder - at least before I was assured of a crap night so I didn't get my hopes up lol. Too funny about the cradle price fib!
MD, did you get down to the school today? Not that it helps H any, but I feel sorry for the 'nice' girl who wouldn't play with her because of what the others would think. I would be sad if my kid was a sheep like that.
Pregpan, does N still wear girl nappies to bed? My supermarket ran out of boy walker so I had to get girl - I told W that lots of little boys wear girls nappies lol. You are braver than I owning up to the cruskit incident, I would have hidden it and boosted.
Cally, sounds like you will have a lovely garden. It will feel great when it is all done and you can sit back and enjoy it.
Clare, we have been brushing teeth for the past couple of weeks. I just got the colgate brush and toothpaste. He brushes them in the bath at night (along with everything else - he has some very well brushed nuts lol) and during the day he grabs the vanity and tries to haul himself up and says tee sss (can't quite manage the th sound)
Sounds like someone needs a nap

Hey, I'm new on here...
How is everyone? You guys all seem very nice
I've just been wondering, do any of your babies have a strawberry birthmark?
I have a few q's if anyone wants to help me out
Hi Cinta. My neice was born with several strawberry birthmarks. I think she has one remaining on her side, the others had all shrunk and disappeared by the time she was about 2.
hi Cinta, and welcome to BB. Sorry don't know about the strawberry birthmarks but I'm sure if you start a new thread there will be some mums on BB who have bubs with them.
Arte, well I've made a time to see the exec teacher tmrw. And then H came home this arvo all happy because she had two girls (and a meanie) playing with her today...so I hope she has turned a corner, but it often only lasts a few days. I just really want to check what her impressions are of what's been going on and make sure that she knows that if it turns bad again I want immediate action. It's gone on for too long now, it was a bit of a shock to hear how bad it's been because H has been keeping a lot of it to herself.
Oh I love that shop with the toys in the Canberra Centre. Dangerous place to be, really! Has any one else bought birthday party clothes for their littlies and what did you get? I went to Pumpkin Patch today but it seemed quite empty and nothing really stood out. Saw a nice red and white Esprit dress but it was a bit too summery, maybe I should go back and get it for Christmas instead.
ETA - Cally, E is a dedicated bread/crumpet/muffin/toast eater. I give it to her in little bits though, maybe try that. Also it's pretty hard to lick the butter out of a crumpet! I put a dab of golden syrup on now and again (just the tiniest whisper) and that always goes down a treat too.
The toothbrush we have is the pidgeon one from big w. Its got a little buffer that you pop on so that they can't choke, although I can't remember if it is supposed to go on the second one as well (help Andie?)
I'm so into getting a wheely bug now, only thing is that she has a ride on toy already as well as a rocking horse and a rocking dinosaur and a smart trike and a push pram thing and another ride on toy. So don't know if I NEED it but I WANT it so does that count...!
Cass - I hear you about the size 1 stuff. S still wears a pair of jeans that are 000, they are a bit more like capri tho at the moment but still fit around the waist. Other stuff she fits size 1 so I usually buy according to how they look. Or just take pot luck when on Gymboree online buying clothes for her.
Cally - S doesn't really like sandwiches much, she has a bit of a munch on the filling then dumps the rest. Loves crust on toast tho. She ends up chucking all her food on the floor once shes done. She loves eating grapes (seedless) but mainly sucks the juice than leaves the rest on her tray. I think she would like me to peel them for her...
Cinta - Hi and welcome. My DD has the stork bites on her forehead and back of neck sorta strawberry marks. I had them at birth as well and faded over time, although if I'm really worked up or unwell you can still see the 'V' on my forehead. Ask away regarding your questions...we'll do our best to help. We're all quite friendly and only bite after a really sleepless night jk
this post may come across as weird as i have one eye on the computer and one eye on my roaring fireplace that L is hovering around. dp still hasn't bought a cover for it so i can't really relax while the fire is going ggrrr
glad to hear my dp is not the only one who can't dress the baby. the weirdest part is that he doesn't even dress him in a blue wondersuit, he always chooses one of those funny aqua green ones so he looks exactly like iggle piggle.
md- glad that H had a better day today. is that exec teacher like a student welfare co-ordinator?
pp- oohh what country road dress are you getting? i love their stuff. ust got the new catalogue with the spend $300 for $200 voucher but there's not much point buying any nice summer stuff when i'm so preggggg
arte- yes we are pinning our hopes on each other, but i'm also a lot more relaxed and zen like, thanks to you. i'm coping with it all much better now that i'm nearly in 2nd trimester.
noni- yah i hope you're utd!! if thats what you want of course.
toothbrushes ... got Jacks from either the chemist or Woolies. I honestly don't remember it was that long ago! ROFL
Clare: I try what I have in the house, Brauer, panandol (even 1yrs to 5yrs .. he's got the weight to allow the occasional usuage), nurofen, teething gel, & Hylands Teething Tablets. These are horrible for him. He vomits etc & was even told once to take him to the hosp if he continued.
He's prob gonna be like Alex, Alex has half a molar left to come thro in his whole mouth, and he turns 2 this week. (wrapped all his Bob pres today whilst he was at daycare).
Jack has a dislike for being left alone. I guess he's always had someone around him, whether it be other kids or us watching him from the other kids or the big dogs. It getting tedious though cause lately, we can't even walk from the lounge room to the kitchen.
Yep, I've got Nurofen, dymadon (S prefers this to the taste of panadol) as well as bonjela and the Hylands teething tablets.
Has anyone tried those tablets...they taste like nothing but they sorta do KWIM . S loves them and pops them in her mouth with ease. Shes such a little addict, sucks on the syringes when giving nurofen and dymadon as well. Loves the stuff lol
Oh, take care with the hot stuff L. Fire hurts. haha Rainy tell your dh to get his butt into gear for that cover. We can't not have your full attention on here
S was a nightmare to put down to sleep tonight. I had to walk away twice or I was going to scream. Why can't I have a baby that falls asleep as soon as her head hits the cot? I've really done myself in with how I've raised her, feeding to sleep etc. Argh...over it and to top it off Bones is back on tonight at 9.30 and I can't record it! So now gotta to stay awake to watch it...although thank god it is back on...I want Bones and Booth to hook up!
