Hi Girls,

Rainy-:ROFL: OMG I neally pee'd my pants laughing... you crack me up... I hope you dont forget to take it off before DP come's home or anyone else. Thanks for making me smile today.

Well I only just survived the outing to the shops for the boys haircuts. Bought Livi some havana thongs and geez they cost $24.95 and well we lost one somewhere in the shops... The boys haircuts look great and then after we had finish getting them done we went to coles and thats when they decided to have a punch up. Xavier proceed to tell me they had to cause they had crazy hair (meaning the lady put gel in their hair) What tha F****KKK Well then we came home and they are now all sleeping....

yep if DH was away for work, i think i ate wetbix 3 meals a day for at least 2 wks. ice cold milk, sugar and weetbix - YUMMO!!!!!!!!!!!!
i also had areal thing for milkshakes, i already do now too.. N drank about half a strawberry milkshake the other day... at least i have someone to share my cravings with this time!!

Cally- do you roast the veggies after slicing them? they wouldn't take long if they were sliced so thin. I think my oven would burn them. Hmmmmm hit me with the 'how to' roasting tips please! :D

Leanne, I wanted to get Alister some Haviana's too, but I can't bare to part with $25 for toddler thongs LMAO - I'm too frugal. I would be so cranky with myself if it were me who lost one though.

md the natropath at the shop i buy ashas nappy cream from said fish oil was really good for that like from those bustlets.. havnt tried it personally tho..

i'm going to a little holiday down to the beach next week with 3 other mums and bubs. should be great fun, we can take the babies swimming and to play in the sand....yah!

Rainy - that getaway sounds great - where abouts are you going? I would love a little getaway to the coast, I am in need of a bit of a break. At the moment we are planning our 2 week end of yr holiday, but it is a bit of a shambles, we are going to Noosa for a week andthen have a week spare - but now we dont know should we cancel noosa and go oseas (esp given oseas holidays will be a little trickier soon) and if not where on earth shall we go for the 2nd week esp given we have left it v late to book. we are looking at cook island, samoa, vanuatu.. also thailand but i think that is unlikely. also v stressful as we will be away from 11-13 wks of preg - how do i do the Nt scan etc??? aaah the stresses! will yuo take your engagement ring with you on the holiday LOL???
Rainy and Ange and Cindy - are you guys going to have a 'pre baby holiday' - we did last time and think we will this time (holidays are our bad habit LOL) - prob to Qld somewhere around mar/april - last time we went to palm cove, wouldnt mind going there again but it is 2 flights fromhere to Cairns so maybe Noosa or something is better. i also wouldnt mind going to tasmania or smething like that (NZ been on our list for ages) but i finmd it hard to choose a cold holiday!

YUMMO! think i just wan all the bad things i keep stopping myself from having! the worst thing for me is cutting out caffeine... and i keep forgetting what i can/cant have so it is like the 1st time all over again. I got all my blood tests back yest and all is good. no rubella immunity again so that is a bit of a worry, but aside from that all good. he thinks my dates are good so no need for a dating scan (dammit). hey wiuld you guys prefer i didnt put all the preg details here (you can follow all my other threads) - i feel like i want to share it with you all, but at the same time it is a bit off topic - let me know! (no offence i promise)

N is havinga weird few days - i think he is teething really badly poor little guy.. and also maybe coming down with something (hmm maybe from licking everything at the play centre on the weekend).
One of my best friends (went to school tog then lives o'seas tog and them lived tog 1st yr uni) is here the next 2 days so i am hoping to knock off work early and meet her and her bubba for coffee/play! cant wait!

i doubt we'll be taking a pre-baby holiday. we usually go to sydney for hols but can't go this yr due to fall-out with in-laws. also it's just too hard for dp to take time off work cos if he doesn't work we don't get paid!

AFM - well we had our first whole bowl of porridge tipped on the floor this morning. :rolleyes: I took my hand away for a second to grab the other spoon...greased lightening! on the floor. Lucky it landed on the tiles not the carpet. DH cooked it (not too well) and I'm afraid the world's littlest food critic spoke. LOL

MD - lol at the world's youngest food critic!! We've moved onto the melamine bowls here after an incident with one of my Royal Doulton bowls last week (silly me I know, turned my back for a moment).

Ange - I have a mandoline so all the vegies are cut up the same thickness and then put them on a tray and roast. I do each vegie separately (unless there is space on the tray) and just do it until they are soft in the middle, then turn over. My oven is dodgy so some of them end up with crispy bits but that's OK. Sweet potato and pumpkin take a while, but zucchini and eggplant are really quick.

PAP - feel free to share any pregnancy stories here. I want to hear about it, but I really only look through this thread in details so would miss anything else.

What is halva?

Rainy - sounds like a lovely holiday. I bet the kiddies will have an absolute ball!

cally- i guess the only thing i'm going to do differently this time is that i'm going to have a doula at the birth, and i'm going to insist bubs is not given any formula whatsoever at the hospital. they started giving Lewis top-ups of formula at the hospital last time and we didn't like it at all....

That is terrible Rainy. No way anyone was coming near me or her with a bottle in the hossy! The hossy i went to are really pro BF'ing and were a great support. Shame they are not all like that.

PAP- hmmmm pre baby holiday sounds great. If i can talk DH in to taking some time off that is. I know what you mean about choosing a cold holiday, but NZ and Tassie are so beautiful, you have to do it sometime. i feel funny posting about my pregnancy in here! lol. But i certianly don't mind reading about everyone elses updates. ;)

Cally- i'm glad you asked, i have no idea what Halva is either....i don't have any plans to do anything differently, oh except not get pre-eclampsia this time! ;) Realy put a spanner in the works! Fingers crossed. I'm a bit of a take-things-as-they-come kinda gal so no real plans, just keep reading and gathering info!

I was out walking yesterday with Lu, we were checking out the helicopters doing emergency drills in the front paddock. Anyway, i swallowed a fly and started trying to cough it up and wet myself in the process! What a glamorous mum i am! :rofl:

Halva - imagine a sweet nutty tasting nougat made from sesami/tahini sort of stuff. Semolina halva is like a dense semolina cake with pinenuts and syrup in it. Mmmmm.

Fish oil sounds like it could work, I'm just not sure about the ponk factor.

On the day sleeps, E has pretty much dropped back to one only, but she's pretty tired so she has to have an extra catch up sleep every few days to compensate. Because DH has been here it's easier to manage the late arvo tiredness and so we've just been pushing through it and putting her to bed a little earlier. Which works on the days when we're at home because she has a long sleep but on daycare days not so good.

Ange - that is HILARIOUS!!!did you take the opp to teach Lu the story of 'the woman who swallowed a fly'??? too funny!!!
Halva is a sesame based sweet - middle eastern. yu can buy the good stuff at delis. and normal range in a supermarket, it is super sweet and v good with a nice cuppa tea!!
Cally - i loved my whole preg, birth etc so ideally i wont doa thing diff!!! i am doing acupuncture though so that is additional to all the prep/pampering i did last time.

MD- You could try some pawpaw, the yellow Lucas brand from a health food store is best, not petroleum based. ;)

Re the Havana's - OMG I was totally ****ed that she lost it and dreaded telling DH. Believe me I not the type of person to go out and splash money around on expensive shoes but I did like them and did a really stupid thing of trying them on her then just giving them to the lady and I didnt even check the price. Yep Stupid I know but whats done is done and still kicking myself.

Day sleeps - Livi still is on 2 a day

last week we went to a picnic at a friend's house and lewis was crawling around the rug and picked up a jug of cordial and ice and threw it all over my friend. she was in the middle of telling a story and just stopped and froze cos she went into shock cos it was so cold on her back. anyways, ...i couldn't help remove the ice from down the back of her top because i was wetting my pants from laughing so hard....not good.

l is still on 2 day sleeps. i tried to do one but he couldn't hack it

MD, I have been using wheatgerm oil on W's dribble rash (left over from pregnancy - doesn't prevent stretch marks BTW). It seems to be helping a bit. He also has nappy rash for the first time ever, these friggin molars are never going to come out!.

Rainy, I would have been superp1ssed if they had decided to ff W at the hospital. I specifically said they couldn't, they are all too eager because I had gestational diabetes. I think I got lucky with my hospital though because some automatically take GD bubs to special care for 24 hours and I got a lovely dr who saw how upset I was at the prospect of a c-section so he kept doing scalp lactic acid tests on W to make sure he wasn't too distressed. I think a different combo of people/places and I would have been sliced and diced.

PP, come to NZ!!!! It is lovely here, you won't regret it. It won't be any colder than Tassie, and late feb/march is still good weather. I would suggest Nelson and Marlborough Sounds area, so beautiful. I got married there in late Feb and the days were long and hot, it has one of the best climates in NZ. You could come to visit me too, but we live in a ski town so it is pretty dead and boring in the summer time. We are forcast to have a hot summer and judging by the past few days they have it right - I have crisscross sunburn all up my arms, that's what you get for letting a one year old rub the sunscreen in lol

Ange, PMSL at your fly incident.

W is down to one nap a day now. Today he considered his 20 minute nap on the way home from Playcentre to be enough, then really needed one later but it was well past the 3pm cutoff (or he won't go to bed). So he ended up having a meltdown at dinner and was in bed at 6pm which is 2 hours earlier than usual. Not sure how that will go. We had a great day playing outside in the sandpit and the paddling pool.

Can't remember who was asking about roast veges? I have started pouring a bit of olive oil in a bowl and tossing them though that so they are lightly coated. It makes them crispier on the outside but still moist on the inside. Not as healthy though. I usually put some garlic stock or curry powder or balsamic vinegar etc with the oil so they have a hint of flavour.

no, no anniversaries or anything coming up...you would've thought maybe my b'day would've been a good one?? but ....no.....i don't know what's going on in his head...
they started giving him formula because my milk didn't come in properly till day 5 and he was losing more than the 10% weight or whatever it is- mind you, he weighed 10bs3oz...so idk????....anyway, i basically stopped the formula once i got home because i was too lazy to mix it up and bfeed and express....all i was doing was feeding.

OMG talking of large babies, I'm going through some little clothes and sorting them into boxes for my neice and soon-to-be-born neice, and DH got on the phone to ask what size 13 week old neice is. I was thinking, prolly size 00, she looks pretty porky in the photos. Well she's a 0-1 (!!!!!!!!!!!!) WTF :wtf: :o E is still in some of her 0s for crying out loud. Well I shouldn't be surprised since she's now apparently having three meals of solids stuffed into her a day. Sorry if I sound like a raving delaying-solids lunatic but REALLY. Last week I emailed some proud aunty pictures to my friend (who's incidentally a dietician) and she's really concerned. She was average sized (7 lb ish) when she was born, apparently even my MIL (her mother) is worried even though she bottlefed and introduced solids early to all of hers (like they did in the old days). Lordy let's just hope she becomes a very active toddler.

ETA - I remember some of our bubs in this thread were pretty big (but from memory looked in proportion), so if this is normal someone please give me a reality check!:pray:

Just have a quick question for you all since all our babies are chucking tantrums, how do you deal with them? Do you ignore them or distract them?? Every time I say no, take something off him (that he shouldn't be playing with) or bring him inside he has a tantrum. I know it is all part of the age and they dont really bother me I just want to know the best way to handle them. Sometimes he throws himself on the ground and hits his head (he doesnt bang his head over and over or anything) or he pushes his head across the ground like a bulldozer.

MD - gosh that does sound big. K is somewhere between a 0 and 1 now, I bought all her summer stuff as a 1, but if it's a cooler day she is still right for her 0's. Any idea on what she weighs? K seems stuck on 9.5 kg. (DH just asked if your niece was on steroids lol!!)

Oz - if I know what the reason is, I will try and reason with her, but if she doesn't get it, I generally just leave her for a bit. If opportunities for distraction are around that is handy, but they aren't always there (like this afternoon she was refusing to walk down the ramp from childcare, not really much available for distraction there, so I just picked her up and walked back to the car telling her that it was home time - I suppose it's good she wanted to stay though)

ETA: Science of Parenting had some good stuff on tantrums, I need to read it again to remind myself - do you have that book? I could scan the pages and email it to you if you wanted - PM me.

Rainy - DD lost more than 10% too, but they never asked me about formula, they just got me to pump in the hope of bringing it in faster. I had a Csect though, wasn't yours vaginal, 5 days is a long time for the milk to come in. DH brought up formula because he was worried about DD but I just told him no.

Had to fill in an accident report today, K fell over and hit under her eye on the floor today, so she's getting a black eye. Both eyes are also a bit gunky which was the first sign of her last cold that turned into a shocker, so I really hope she doesn't get badly sick again. Will try and be a better mother this time and get her to the doctor more quickly, poor little poppet.

Time for bed.

Cally I borrowed the Science of Parenting from the library, might have to go and get it again. I am trying to find a copy of Toddler tactics too.

ETA it must be frustrating for them not being able to just say what they want.

katie- yes tantys are bad! i have to admit, *touch wood*, lewis isn't as bad as some of the other kids i've seen lately at mothers group etc. he's pretty cruisey. generally we can distract him by picking him up and blowing mouth farts into his neck or tummy or something like that, that makes him laugh and forget.

Ummm, because they have rocks in their head???!! I reallly don't know. The photos we have of her is of a plump baby getting progessively plumper to the point where her head now looks triangular on account of her jowls (that sit on her shoulders). I'm assuming that perhaps she has been an unsettled baby that settles well when fed and so therefore they have just keep feeding her more and more in order to settle her? And I'm guessing that after a point the formula stopped working and so they started solids. That's the only explanation I can think of. You know you see large babies and plump babies around the place, but they always look in proportion, you know? So you can say, that's just a large baby, that's just the way they are. My friend's little boy is like that, he was always huge, but in proportion, kwim? But she really just looks utterly overfed!

ETA:
BTW - it's not unusual for it to take up to 5 days for milk to come in, Cally. Especially not with the first. When I went home with DD1 on day 4 my milk had not yet come in (not that anyone at the hospital gave two hoots about it). My understanding though is that the colostrum usually meets their needs just fine during that time, if you keep putting them to the breast frequently (ie every time they so much as murmur) and expressing (if there's attachment issues or sleepy baby, etc) then hopefully the milk comes in as it should (although Trill will vouch that sometimes it does not).

Like I said, even my MIL and SIL have tried to talk to her about it (very unusual for them to be sticking their nose in because she has two older boys and should know what she's doing). Not sure what sort of MACH services they have up there (rockhampton) but it's not a very educated social strata that they're in. OR maybe we're all wrong and it is just the way she is and we'll all be biting our tongues in two years time when she's running around, normal toddler sized...?!

Trillian - What a special mummy you have, very kind indeed. Had a little giggle at Alister chucking tantys when he wants a lolly lol. Maddie knows the pantry now & that it contains snacks, if I open it & dont come out with something for her boy she lets me know.

Arte - Yum, the roast veges sound good. You can even try olive oil & mixed spice (its sweet but so good) drizzled over pumpkin. Its delicious, especially if cooked to the point where its very soft. Maddie devours it. Weird combination but so yumo.

We are down to one day sleep here as well. At daycare she only does one half an hr stint, its really not enough because she bombs out shortly after getting home, but cant fight with M she wants to be up and exploring no matter how tired.

As for the breastfeeding, I still feel as if I gave up on it way too early so thats definately one thing I hope to change the next time around. I also think I wasnt prepared, I thought BFing came naturally and was so simple, however I found it to be so hard and painful. Now that I know more hopefully next time will be different. Rainy you did well for getting rid of the formula when you got home. Listen to me, already planning for the next one, I am getting so clucky!

hey everyone thanks for all the birthday wishes in here and on facebook :)
i had a lovely day for most of it lol.. my mum took me out and i bought the wii and lots of things to go with it, my mum also bought me a new hair straightener because mine is broken and i feel really tragic without it lol just a cheap one to get me through because shed already given me money to go towards the wii.. ummm got lots of lovely phone calls and msgs which was nice, some years people tenmd to forget.. dp came home with flowers and chocolate :) and a really lovely card too (his present was money for the wii too, lol can u tell i might have wanted it? haha) the only bit that was a bit crappy was that i had to go and collect the catologues and alot of people hadnt left them out so i have alot of call backs to do as well as i only got 2 orders!! very disheartening out of 100!! so out of 200 catologues i got 9 orders in total which isnt really worth it.. looks like ill be finishing up all my call backs and putting in the orders i have and that will be about that because its just a bit more full on than i thought and people who usually do the job usually have a car to help them.. on top of that asha just winges the whole time because the sun is in her face or shes bored or the pram keeps stopping lol. weve both gotton a bit burnt too which im not happy about.. anyway ill stop rambling about it now haha..
bf - im with u mm gave up too soon, and really regretted it too.. when i look at some of the pics from when asha was lil and she was having reflux issues i feel sad because she just looks unhealthy iykwim?? its awful i gave asha formula on the second day because i couldnt get her to attatch she was crying and the staff at the hospital werent overly helpful.. next time i am commited to trying harder, which in a way makes me feel guilty too that i didnt with dd but i know there is so much more help out there than i knew about and that it may not be the natural easy process that i expected it to be..
md - wow asha was usually in the big category except for birth thank god lol.. but that is very big.. 13wks is still so young ashas in 1s now she is starting to fit twos tho lol in singlets and things.. but at 13wks she was 00s i think but still fitting some 000.. hope they get some help asha started solids a bit early too but she certainly wasnt having 3 meals a day until around 6mths...

Hi everyone!

MD, I have nothing to say about that baby - I'm gobsmacked, I really am! I know that you see some big babies about the place, but she sounds extraordinarily large for her age. I would assume though that the 0-1's are to accomodate her girth and not her length as well - not at 13wks anyway. From memory Alister was in some 0's at that age for length in jumpsuits (he was 70cm at 4mths), but two pieces were 00-0 depending on brand and he wasn't fat by any measure. YOu would think that with all the carry on about obese children that they would pay more attention to that and possible health issues down the track. There is a little girl in Paige's preschool class that would weigh close to 30kg and she was 4 in September! When they had a picnic in the park last term, the girls Mum was there and she was talking about her DD and her recent dietician's appt (yep, this girl has a dietician at 4) and while she is talking she fed this child TWO salad sandwiches, a big bowl of rice and veges and then she had a piece of fruit and a juice - I mean seriously! She is only a young child, she cannot get all that food on her own so she is enabling her to be so obese by giving her all that food. So while it was all reasonably healthy food, it was just the sheer quantity of it. It's quite sad really that because of the lack of education on the part of the parents that this child is set up for a lifetime of health problems. And I know I get comments about Paige and Alister now because they are such lean (but V tall) kids - especially when they know how much they weighed at birth and I'm like, but so what? Like they expect them to be bigger because of their bigger birth weight. It's all well and good to have the 'big baby status' when you have a large chubby baby bigger than everyone else's, but the novelty of that would wear off pretty quick I imagine when you have the same people commenting about how big they are as toddlers and not in a nice way either - there seems to be a very fine line between what is 'cute' and what is just 'OMG he's fat!' kwim?

Anyway, Re the BF Gracie, you'll find that because you're still BF Lewis, then your milk should come in quicker this time. Plus your birth was pretty hard on you, and that can all play a part in those early BF days. I remember with Lindsay my milk didn't come in till day 4 - day 5 properly and with Erin it was in by day 3 (and thank god because she didn't stop screaming till then LMAO). I don't have any regrets about not persevering with Alister (who was fully FF from 3 days old) because there was nothing to persevere with kwim? I had to give him something, he was getting dehydrated, he had no wet nappies, didn't poo for 5 days (he did a HUGE mec poo in the moments before he was born so I reckon thats why he lost no weight in hospital because most of their 10% weight loss is due to all the mec poos and he'd already done that) and he had pink staining in his nappy from the ketones in his urine - not good. Plus even with all the pumping I was doing on top of the feeding to get the milk to come in quicker didn't work - nothing came in at all. on day 5 I had an hour or two where they felt heavy like it was coming in, but it went away and not a drop of milk to be seen.

Hi ladies. I'm still refusing to believe the size thing. I have emailed my SIL (mother of niece) for confirmation. Until then I'm going to act like she's still in 00s cos that's just the big side of normal, kwim? Trill that is awful about the 4 y.o. My DD1 is 10 and TALL and weighs only 8 more kgs than that, no way would I be able to stuff all that food into her in a single sitting!

Had my U/S this morning and I'm dying of curiosity for the results. I tried to pump the sonographer for some info but she was drier than an Alice Springs creek bed. She didn't make any hmmming noises and only took 1 or 2 pics of each body bit so I'm assuming it means I don't have some funky parasite living in there...! I had the most horrendous attack of reflux last night, it went for hours and hours despite all the stuff I swallowed, in the end I was sure I was having a heart event and woke everyone up ready to go to hospy :o. But then I burped and suddenly felt better. FDC lady reckons that's what gallstones feels like. All will be revealed shortly no doubt.

Ladies about the BFing - I just want to say - DON'T feel bad about the choices you made when you did. You were doing the very best that could at the time, sometimes it's a product of the circumstances that you find yourself in and having support or not (not always within your control) is really a big factor in establishing BFing. It is very difficult to assert yourself within that medical setting - even ppl who work in the system find it difficult when suddenly they are the patients/clients. Gracie I agree with Trill, your milk will come in much more easily this time round.

MD, I hope you don't have gallstones, they're awful. Mum had them for years and years when I was little and she used to live on Mylanta. She finally got round to having them out when I was 13 and they took out 99! I hope that the scan shows no nasties in there *fingers crossed* and you get the all clear. Scary about the reflux last night though, it gets really worrying when you can't get rid of it.

MD - I am cacking myself here at you burping last night!! I can just imagine everyone ready to go and you letting out a massive one! So funny. But glad you feel better. Is it a good thing if nothing pops up on the U/S? At least if there was something there you could address it kwim? When is your appointment?

OK, I did not know that 5 days could be quite normal for milk to come in - you learn something new every day! If I was going again, I would put her to the breast more often to get more colostrum and help the milk come in. Although that is looking at it now, when BFing is easy, not when my nipples are sore and cracked etc. Fingers crossed your start is so much easier this time Rainy (and Ange are you still BFing) because you are on the way.

Noni - sorry you didn't get more orders, maybe with the callbacks it will increase a lot (ie they couldn't decide what they wanted so the catalogue is still sitting on the table inside - fingers crossed)

K was so cute this morning - they pulled out the playdough when she arrived at day care and when I left I just got a little smile and a wave and then she was back into playing with it. So glad she has settled in. Almost gave her carer a hug though, she was feeling so bad about her accident, we didn't blame her at all - things happen at home and there are two of us watching her, not one looking after 5 like the carer has. Although it is nice that she was so worried, show's that she takes her job seriously and cares about the little ones.

Weights... Ok my livi is a whopper she weighs in at 14kg and Xavier is 16kg and Jordy is 19kg. Ok so weight doesnt really bother me because coming from someone that has had twins and Jordy was always bigger than Xavier and Xavier was the one that ate more. Jordy has slimmed down heaps since he been walking and is now slim, Tall and still good looking. Xavier has always been the little one and well Livi is just like Jordy. Since the short time she has been walking her legs are slimming down just like Jordy's did. Livi is wearing 1's and I am now buying her sleep wear in 2's. Livi also has a J Lo butt. lol
