LP, don't feel bad, I don't honestly know why they even still sell it. J&J do have a cornflour baby powder too, it smells the same and works better than talc anyway IMO, so maybe try that?
Renee, yep, very busy, here there and everywhere, it's only going to get busier in Dec, too!
Ok, gotta go, I'm off to do some important Santa trampoline business.
-
K had her first night in the cot last night. Woke a bit earlier than normal, but she had a very dirty nappy (we could hear it through the monitor) so that's not surprising. The movement alarm went off a couple of times so might have to adjust the sensitivity on it.
Does anyone else struggle to get back to sleep in the middle of the night - I was awake for another hour after putting her back down. Very frustrating.
I've got an Oi Oi bag too - like your tip MD about putting extra stuff in the car. We did get caught out last week. I've just bought myself a little bag to go in it for mummy stuff (chapstick, emery board etc)
Arte - hope you managed to get a photo done.
Well I think she's just dropped off - time for a shower.
-
Logan was just cracking up laughing, I have got a few chuckles before but he was just in hysterics. It has to be the cutest thing I have ever seen and heard. Cant wait till DH gets home so I can show him. Well my nice little routine seems to have dissapeared lol, he woke again last night for a feed. I am not to bothered he has been sleeping in in the morning giving me a chance to get some things done. We are off to Sydney tonight, so I really should be finishing the packing lol.
Cally well done on getting K in the cot, was she in your room before? Its bizzare going to sleep without them in your room dont you think?
LP they had really cute little singlet tops that sound like they would go great with your skirt.
MD greattip on having another bag stashed away in the car, I am going to start doing that.
Well better go and finish packing, so much stuff to take.
-
Marydean - Some excellent tips there that I will definately take on board, thanks for that. Is talcum powder different to nappy rash powder?? I always use nappy rash powder on Maddie at each nappy change, is this bad?
Katie - Oh how gorgeous! Cant wait for some laughs from my little one. Have fun in Sydney.
Cally - Well done with the cot. I'm slowly working our way up to night sleeps in the cot by doing all her day sleeps there.
Hayley - Also target has a cute girls dress that says something about santa on it....was it i love santa? Cant remember!
-
In hospital they told me that baby powder is not recommended any more because it can trigger asthma in babies.
Haley, you can get creams that help prevent nappy rash that work better than powder (my opinion anyway)
-
wow so many posts!!!
been busy.. making a mess more than anything lol.. been wrapping up the chrissi presents i have already and trying to find spots for them all lol cant wait till its christmas and i can get all this stuff out of my house but then of course there will be lots of stuff given to us that we will have to find room for...
Asha has graduated to 000 lol she finally fits in them at 2mths and 1wk old lol they still have a bit of room but they dnt look rediculous anymore iykwim? time to put all the 0000 away...
can u believe that my cold sores are only now almost gone??? and u know what did it? when i went to the gp for Ashas needles he told me to try paw paw ointment and its made a huge difference they started clearing up straight away just they were so big and in an akward position that they have taken so long...
oh and with the baby powder thing i have been using it on Asha from day one :( it really helps her with heat rash etc but i had no idea about it i agree why would they make a baby product thats harmful its very frustrating!!!
arte - thats interesting about the asthma thing suppose it makes sence...
haley - i think they are the same not sure though i always use powder on Asha too no one ever told me it was so bad..
katie - how cute!!! Asha cracked up in her sleep the other night but thats the only time i have heard her laugh so far lol..
cally - sounds like a successful night in the cot well done!!
lp - glad scarlet is having a better day :) ive also seen christmas outfits in big w and they have small santa hats in those variety christmasy kinda stores...
md - we leave stuff in the car when dp and i go out together but usually its just myself and bubs and i dnt drive i think thats why my nappy bag gets so full.. alot of the time i do try to pack light but its hard lol...
haley - not sure on the change mats i didn't know they were sold seperately my bag came with one but its just plain, very soft though without being absorbant i love it..
gl bekz!!!!!
rennee - how are u coping with night shift?? dp has been on 10pm to 5am this week instead of his 5-1 its strange adjusting and it does get a little overwhelming being alone at night when theres so much to do...
-
Nonie - Im sooo slack now that DH is on night shift haha :) I am coping okay, its just eating dinner by myself that gets me a down. Alot of my girlfriends have been coming around to keep me company and I walk every night. ROry's routine hasnt changed since DH started nights, although last week when Rory was really unsettled it was the week DH started nights. Maybe he picked up on my stress and change of our routine?
Oh speaking of walking, how on earth is it possible to PUT on weight when I have been walking twice a day and eating less. NOT FAIR!
-
i am really freaking out over this powder thing we have used it every day multiple times :( if she ends up sick i will never forgive myself.. i cant believe a baby product cld b so harmful...
renee- i try to walk every avo while dp is sleeping hasnt happened today though damn it be careful not to over do it with all that walking n eating less its easy to get carried away.. well it is 4 me neway!!! i get pretty down with dp on nights coz if hes not sleeping hes getting ready for work iykwim? with a regular job u get that time with them when they get hme n theres dinner n watever... ur lucky u have friends to keep u company i dnt really have any since my friend moved to melb pretty pathetic but hey... we dnt live alone though my dad or his g/f are usually here but we have separate lounge rooms n i always feel like i am intruding iykwim?
-
ps - i put a few recent pics in my gallery :)
-
Oh I have added a pic too. Guess who can lift his head now!!! AND I cought it on camera whoohoo
-
what a clever little boy!! beautiful blue eyes too...
-
Gorgeous photos ladies!! Noni, E is just about to go up a size, into 00s. Some of them are still a bit on the biggish size, but she is long in the body so all the bodysuits in 000 are getting a bit stretched. Time to reorganise her clothes drawers too so the summery stuff is in the top drawers. I thought of you when I was talking about the nappy bags, maybe you can get a boot built onto your pram LOL.
Renee, it must be all that muscle bulk you are putting on!! Seriously, I didn't share how squidgy my tum is, far squidgier than after my first Pg. And I have asymetrical stretchies so my tummy shape is kind of asymetrical as a result. *sigh* But I only have to look at my gorgeous girl E and it's all worth it!
Well I feel like I'm in the night shift club too since DH is away. He didn't even ring me today when I texted him about my very exciting Santa trampoline news. :( Oh well it will be his fault if he comes home and I've spent all the money hahaha.
BTW everyone - it's 25% off all toys at Myer right now. Pity Santa didn't know about this last week when he bought the Lamaze spinning garden gym thingo. Too busy polishing his boots and ironing his red suit I imagine...
-
I will add to MD's nappy bag tips.
Always put your nappies in a nappy sack before putting them in your nappy bag...saves trying to find a nappy sack with a pooy nappy hanging around.
Has anyone used corn startch instead of baby powder....works wonders and is not harmful like talc.
-
bekz i heard about the corn flower thing but Asha gets bad heat rash and i dnt have any in the house... ofc i didn't wanna use talc anymore so i chucked it out and looked around and i found a cream i bought when i was preg.. i bought it coz it had a cute name (botty balm) lol... but i looked at the ingredients and its all nice stuff like lavender, almond oil, coa coa butter, beeswax etc so i have switched over to that... thats a good idea with the nappy sack thing too!!!
md - i have to reorganise Ashas drawers too because theres crap every where and there are still things that dnt even fit her anymore because she has so much 0000 stuff that she was given theres some things i dnt recognize and try it on her only to have it not fit and shes getting agitated at me dressing and undressing her lol...
-
Morning sexy mama's :) ~ My little angel had me up every half hour last night, She was crying in her sleep but she didn't wake up at all... By about 4am i put her in bed with us (again, so naughty) just so i didn't have to keep getting out of bed to check if she was awake.
Has anyone checked out the new toys'r'us catalouge online?... All the FP rainforest stuff is on sale, I'm glad i waited to get Scarlet's swing and since it's a bargain she's getting a jumperoo too. We were just going to get a jolly jumper later but i think she'll feel more secure in the jumperoo.
I think i'll be joining the night shift club next week, Will find out this afternoon... O'well atleast i'll have you girls to talk to :D.
noni ~ Sounds like you've been having fun getting into the christmas spirit, gratz on Asha moving up to 000, Scarlet is just about to go up to 00... She really should be in them now but i'm still squeezing her into 000 because i have hardly any 00's, definately time for a clothes shopping spree.
I freaked about the powder thing too, I had 4 really huge things of it, I threw them all out.
Renee ~ My mum reckons you put on weight when your happy, I don't agree but it's a fantastic excuse *lol*
That pic of Rory is sooo cute!
MD ~ Time for some re-organising here too, How long is your DH away for? - I hope he's back for xmas.
I added a few more photo's of Scarlet too... Gotta run, going to try and beat the crowd to the shopping centre to get some more chrissy decorations :)
-
Must be the week for nightshift - DH went back to work last night after his holidays LOL. Ah well 1 down 3 to go.
I have been reading, but just being very slack and not posting *smacks hand*. Developmentally Alister isn't doing anything fantastic, but just plodding along at his own pace. He doesn't really bat at toys much on his play gym but the whole thing freaks him out because as soon as I put him under it, the girls are crowding over him and just start making a heap of noise and he doesn't like it, so I don't get it out much. He can hold his head up while on his belly and can nearly roll over onto his belly from his back. He is getting more responsive to us now though and is starting to mimic what we do - like I can look at him and poke my tounge out and he will copy me or if I make a big 'O' with my mouth he will too. He's fully graduated to 00 in jumpsuits now, and some are a bit short in the crotch so they wont last long either as he is really long in the torso (same body shape to his Dad). He still wears 000 Tshirts and shorts though and there is a 00 shirt he wears sometimes.
I had my hair done on wednesday and got it all cut off and had blonde foils put through with a dark brown base colour (similar to my natural colour but richer kwim) and I am really happy with it and it's given me a real self confidence boost because at least my hair looks good now LOL.
-
hi everyone...sorry i've been mia!
i've been reading but not posting. i'm cuddling lewis with one arm right now so typing with one finger...
lp- i'm spewing fp rainforest is on sale! how much is the cradle swing? i paid $199. i found out a lady from my work had her baby the other day and named her scarlet. i got serious name envy!! it's not fair. i hate it when i hear that people i know have used 'my' baby names!!!
we've got a big weekend with dp's brother and his girlfriend coming down from sydney. we're taking our new boat (our ebay purchase) out for her maiden voyage(sp?) on the bay. hopefully all goes well. bought lewis a little life jacket but the smallest we could find was 10-15kgs (he's 6kgs). i'm just going to keep him in the cabin area and tightly wrapped in my arms. we are looking forward to it, should be very relaxing- will probably go all the way down to sorrento if we have time. last time we did this we took our dog (on our other boat) and she stood on the deck looking down into the water. a school of about 7 dolphins came right up and were almost touching noses with her. it was so beautiful.
hope everyone is having a lovely friday. i love fridays!
-
sherie- how long is alister now? i remember he looked like he was going to be quite tall- i love big strapping lads lol!
i got my hair done on tuesday too. it was so ratty! great to get it cut and i got some layers. my hair is dark brown but i asked her to do it a red/brown...it's a bit too red atm. still getting used to it. your hair sounds nice though. i love foils on a darkish brown base. i wish lighter hair suited me but i look best dark.
-
Can you tell this early if a bub is a lefty? Will seems to favour his left hand for batting and grasping at his toys and it has me wondering. I asked my family if there are any southpaws and found out my father is.
I bought the fp rainforest gym but it was boring, none of the dangly things interested him and only one toy played a tune (I thought you could turn on some music) so I took it back. I was thinking of getting the jumperoo but they didn't have any in the shop.
He is starting to crack, better go entertain him
-
Gracie, Alister was about 66cm long at last measure - I know he *looks* really long though LOL. Lewis should be OK with the life jacket even if it is a bit big - it's better than nothing at all. I used to get the red foils too, but my hair has a red undertone so after a while my hair just seems to absorb the red ones so I just got blonde this time.
Arte, I don't know how early they start to show a preference for left or right but it gets more definate by the time they are about 5-6mths. I am hoping that Alister is a 'mollyduka' like me - the others are all right handed. Apparently only 9% of the population is left handed.
-
omg! i can't believe alister is 66cm! that is so long. lewis was 61cm last measure and i thought that was long!
-
I know! he is almost too long for his pram when he is laying down in it and his feet are right on the edge. He's had a bit of a growth spurt because the time he was measured before that, he was only 63cm. He isn't a hugely fat baby though, just long with a nice covering of fat. DH is quite lean himself and his brother is 6'4 and really lean too.
-
Argh Gracie, I hope it doesn't become a really popular name!
Scarlet was 65cm long at exactly 8 weeks, but she looks way longer now... She's not really that long in the torso, she just has these super long legs!
I'm starting to get worried about her progress, She was rolling over all the time a few weeks ago and now she's just stopped... She's also held her head up really well since about 4 weeks and all the CHN's and GP's i've been to have commented on it but now she seems kind of lazy and a little bit wobbly, it's strange.
-
The FP swing is $199 Gracie - You didn't miss out :D.. all the others i've seen have been $129 - $149, Where did you get yours?
-
i can't believe scarlet is 65cm! that's massive. i think she's gonna be a supermodel!
i got my swing a couple of weeks ago from toys r us. it was totally worth the money. lewis loves it.
-
I know, she was 55cm at birth & she's off the scales for weight and length for a girl her age.. at 2 months she was the size of a 3 1/2mth old girl.. but she's all in proportion... not fat and short or long and skinny - DF is 6'4, i'm 5'8 and we're both thin (well i was..lol) MIL is 5'10 so she's got the tall genes.
I'm hoping bub likes her swing, the rainforest one is by far the nicest - I think the only others they have are playful pets which looks to boyish for me and the power one.. which isn't nice at all!
-
Hayley, sometimes they reach a milestone and then they can stagnate a bit. It takes a lot out of them to do things sometimes and just like when they first start to smile, they might do it for a while and then nothing again for ages kwim? it doesn't mean that there is a problem, but she could just concentrating her energies elsewhere, like growing or other developmental things.
-
hello lovelies!!
have been doing woefully with ww this week lol been really busy and skipped breakfast a few days in a row which of course made me super hungry in the avo/night and i went over my points a few times.. hopefully tody will be better and i can save up some points because tmw i have an early family christmas thing ahhhhhhh!!!
developementaly i think Asha might be a bit behind too.. she started controlling her head quite early and has good controll of it now,she pushes herself along when i put her on her tummy, she smiles and coos but thats about it i am sure she'll get there..
wow we have some tall babies!! i thought Asha was tall but shes only 57cm lol so not tall at all in this thread lol...
fp - we are getting the jumperoo this saturday i think for a present, it does look more secure than the jolly jumper.. we will also be getting the rainforest deluxe play gym.. all shes really got is her bouncer which i thought she would be bored of but she spends most her time in it she loves it lol though she dosn't really play in it just enjoys the vibrations and bouncing it often sends her off to sleep lol...
-
Dont worry Nonie yesterday I had eggs benadict at the marina and then we had hogs breath for dinner haha. Hmmm not good. I put on weight either way sooooo pffffffft to my diet!!!
How is little Asha now? I hope she is feeling better from her needles???
Sherie - Nice to see you back on. I was starting to wonder where you got to haha. You rhair sounds lovely!!
I was really naughty. I changed Rory's needle appointments (AGAIN) from Saturday to Monday for very selfish reasons. Its my uncles birthday party on Saturday and I didnt want Rory to be unwell for it. My uncle has just got the all clear from the Drs that his bowel cancer is gone. So its going to be a big event for the family. Im going more for my Aunty than anything who's first husband died from cancer (I think I told you about it a few weeks ago). Its been really tough for her so I know a cuddle from Rory will really cheer her up!
-
Wow so many DH's working night shift! If you dont mind me asking, what do they do for jobs? At least you have some time during the day when the baby is more awake to do things together (although I do realise some of that day DH would spend asleep right?) My poor DP feels as if he is missing out on alot of things, he works long hrs. 8-6 every day, except Wed when he works till 9pm and Sat morning till 1pm. He works in a car dealership, noooo not a dodgy car salesman haha, I always tease him about that. No he buys the cars for the yard to sell, so not involved in the dodgy part of it!!
Renee - Thats fair enough. How terrible for your aunty to have to go through it twice. Cancer is so horrible, i'm glad he has recovered.
Hayley - Scarlet is a tall bub isnt she! Maybe she will be a basketballer? Hehe. I'd love to be tall, i'm such a shortie. Long legs are beautiful! I dont know if Scarlet is a really popular name? I had Madison as one of my names in mind for Maddie, but I decided on Madeline, as Madison is in like the top ten. Although Madeline is still quite popular. Oh well who cares I guess, just go with what you want!
Noni - Asha will love the jumperoo, it looks excellent. I think I'm getting the jolly jumper as its a bit cheaper, but you are right, it doesnt look as exciting as the jumperoo.
Sherie - Hehe another tall bub! I guess if 'tallness' is in the family then its to be expected. :) Maybe he will make a good footy ruckman one day! Lucky you getting your hair done.
Arte - Oh no Will didnt like the gym? Bummer!
Gracie - I hope you have lots of fun on the boat. :)
Well i'm a bit excited and sad at the same time today as we are looking at selling our little unit that we have as an investment. Excited because we wont need to be so careful with money (though i'm sure we wont be going on big spending sprees, once you are used to saving and budgeting it kinda stays that way!) and sad because I know in ten yrs time we could sell it and be mortgage free. But life is for living and we dont want to be constantly worried about money, so hopefully we can sell for a decent price and knock a fair amount off the house we are currently in and in a few yrs time we will buy another investment! Perth is not cheap though, as you've probably all heard.
Anyway I must go because I can hear little Maddie making sounds from the bedroom, must be time to get up and play! Yay! :)
-
Whoa Hayley - Way to go on getting an investment property!!! You guys are so lucky!! We looked at buying an investment property just after we bought our home but the prices went CRAZY about a month after. So we just count our blessings that we bought our home just in time.
So many people cant get in the market anymore. My SIL & BIL cant buy a home and wont be able to any time soon with the prices the way they are. Its not fair.
You guys are set for life *high five* way to go!
-
I know how you feel Hayley, We have 2 duplex's on the gold coast which we planned on keeping until we retired but it looks as though we'll be selling soon so we don't have to be so tight on the finances - My savings just seem to be dissappearing since having Scarlet.
No use owning houses you're not living in and in the meanwhile eating 2 minute noodles for dinner (It's not quite that bad yet...lol) we've also been renting them out and we're getting so sick of always getting bad tenants!
-
My DF is an engineer - I think Renee's Dewayne does the same thing?
-
i have to say i am feeling a little out of place in here with all this talk of investment property... we live in a not great area with my dad and his g/f... we have our own living space but its only a small lounge room and average bedroom and thats it... i have not even 1000 on my 6000 credit card.. and the only reason we have so much nice stuff for Asha is because we have a very giving family and i spend pretty much everything i have for myself on her instead of me... in saying that we do ok and are looking to move next year sometime and hopefully rent somewhere small but in comparison i feel like we are out on the street with nothing lol... sorry in a bad mood today lol
haley - dp works at australian air express at the air port with mail and freight and stuff.. he actually gets less time with bubs because he gets home and is awake for a few hours but then to get enough sleep he goes to sleep and when he wakes up he is getting ready iykwim?? i barely see him but we need the money... i think its because his work is pretty far away from here so when you factor in travel time thats what does it where as if he was working closer he might have a little more time with us :(
-
Noni ~
We've been alot worse off then you guys, When DF and i first got together we were 15 & 16, homeless and living in DF's car - After 6 months of that we moved up in the world and moved into a rental house that had holes in the floor, graffitti all over the walls and no windows, we had no furniture.. just a suitcase of possessions each and we slept on clothes on the floor, We lived like that for what seemed like forever. I scored a really good modelling job when i was 17, I pretended i'd done it before and bluffed my way through it at first but it worked and i saved every cent i earned, so did DF. Then when i was 19 i got sick of the modelling industry so i bluffed my way into becoming a hotel manager... I didn't lie exactly... just acted like i knew what i was doing, We literally lived at my work until we found out we were PG.
Don't worry about doing it a bit harder, It'll all be worth it when you eventually do buy a house... Atleast you'll know in your heart you worked for it and mummy and/or daddy didn't hand it to you on a silver platter.
-
thanks lp thats really inspiring :)
-
:)We still have friends that come to our house and say 'I can't believe you guys live here'.. my mum even spins out over it sometimes... not that much feels different for us really... although, we do have a bed.
It's been ages since i've told anyone about it, I don't think the circle of friends we have now would even believe us...
Someone said to us a few weeks ago 'You must have been through alot together' (refering to being together so long for our age i guess) and we just started laughing and couldn't stop, That happens alot. lol.
-
LP - Very inspiring!! You should be very proud. I bet you appreciate everything that little bit more now? Did you parents know you were out on the street?
Dwayne is a boilermaker, he works on the mining trucks with his two brothers who are diesel mechanics. Is that the same thing as an engineer??? Im not sure. Although I do remember him being offered training as an engineer so it must not be the same?
It annoys me when people think Dwayne does dodgy things to get us where we are. Our neighbours asked us once if we were growing drugs in the shed!! Arghhhhhhh so rude! Especially when D works so bloody hard $%*&@
Rory does not like my BIL's gf. Whenever she pops around he goes nuts crying! Does anyone else have a friend that their bubs doesnt like? Is it even possible for a baby not to like someone??
-
lp - i am glad you told us though because ive been feeling really down about our situation lately and that does kinda put things in perspective u know? i think the reason i am struggling so much is because dp is my only friend, litterally i have no friends except the girl who moved to melbourne, i am not good in social situations so i never meet new ppl...
dp and i have been together 5 years in dec this year we got together on his 17th bday... we lived together quite young too because my mum was continuously kicking me out of home, weve had a very shakey relationship and i have gioven her soooo many chances but anyway i wont go into that now things are good atm so i dnt wanna jinx it!! you too must be very strong ppl to be able to hold a relationship together with so much hardship even dp and i have had some breaks from the relationship and some very rough patches couldnt imagine it any other way now though..
renee - Asha def has ppl she like more then others.. i think it is possible for a baby not to like someone.. do u like bils g/f? maybe he is picking up on some negative feelings coming from somewhere??? how rude of your neighbours!!!
-
LMAO @ growing drugs in your shed! - You should have asked if he wanted to buy some.
I had a pretty crazy childhood, then my mum got really sick and was hospitalised for most of my teenage years and being the way i am i just didn't want any other family to have to support me... long story really.
Scarlet doesn't like the lady in the post office, She pokes her cheeks and talks in a really high pitched voice... I was in there today talking to her and i said 'i'm taking her to the mental health nurse on Monday'... I didn't realise till i walked out the door, I meant Child health nurse... No wonder she looked at me funny.
I think being an engineer is the same?.. lol.. i don't know.. He welds stuff and makes things.
