Hi Reet - Welcome!

Luckily my husband doesn't work away - but he does long days at the office. Its good that your DH can have some down time doing something enjoyable to help take is mind off missing you guys though.

Yay! Reet! :) Just read your birth story, fantastic stuff. So in awe that you could do it without drugs! Hopefully Sienna will be good for you while DH is away. Your poor DH must be missing her lots (my DH has gone back to work and misses J heaps but he only works 7-4pm!).

Well I have finally given up on the b/f completely. It was just too hard, but I know I gave it my all and Jake got 5 weeks worth of the good stuff. I know more now so will give it another go next bub.
I have just bought the best thing ever... it's a Fisher Price cradle swing, and OMG it is awesome for settling baby bear when he is grizzly and refuses to settle himself in his cot. I feel a bit guilty that i'm not rocking him in my arms, but he's getting heavy and it's giving me a backache!

Shell: You've given Jacob the best start in life with 5 weeks of your milk - well done on persevering as long as you did, I don't know if I could have! That's awesome about the cradle swing! Don't feel guilty -whatever works I say! :D

sahbear: It is really sad for the dads when they go back to work! Us lucky mums get to see our beautiful bubbas all day long! How is E doing?

Reet: Yay, you're here! I was wondering if you'd found this thread. Sienna is so gorgeous! Sounds like we have the same problem with the strong let down! Poor Adele chokes and splutters and gasps for air! I think it leads to her having a few problems with wind too, have you found that with Sienna? I think it's pretty normal for babies this age to always want to be held when sleeping. I've found Adele is starting to do this now - she's worse with it in the mornings, then in the afternoon she's happy to sleep in her rocker.
That's awesome that you're going to start using cloth nappies! I started using cloth with DS when he was about 5 months old, and now am starting to use cloth on Adele already now. There are some absolutely gorgeous nappies out there which makes it all the more addictive! If you want to chat anymore about cloth feel free to PM me :).

kts: That's great you have you laptop fixed! Sounds like you're adjusting to life with two kids quite well :). That's great that feeding is going well too! It's been much smoother for us this time round too.

How is everyone else doing? Leesa, Jaycee, Ezymay? Anyone else I've missed?

AFM: Things are pretty good here. I've had a good day today with Adele being fairly settled and sleeping lots, and having lots of visitors. If you'd asked me yesterday I probably wouldn't have said the same - DS missed his day sleep and Adele spent a fair chunk of the day crying, so I wasn't coping quite so well yesterday. How I'm coping usually depends on how happy or not the kidlets are.
We actually went out for tea last night. I had Adele in the carrier, so she slept the entire time which was lovely. DS was quite well behaved too (even if he barely ate anything).

Adele is sleeping well most nights. I find she sleeps best if I have her sleeping in bed with me though. Last night she did a 5 hour block, woke for a feed, then did a 4 hour block - so I got lots of sleep :).
Feeding is still going well - I suppose we're at the point now where it will only get easier. Now I just need to master the cradle hold so I can feed her out and about a bit easier. And speaking of feeding, Adele has woke for a feed, so I better go!

Reet and Sterla - I too have cloth to use but wasn't sure when to start. I have itti bitti Tuttos and a few bum genius to use. What are you using? What will you use for liners? I'm still to look for some.

I to all the girls hope you are all doing well!! Keep us posted good and bad we are all here to support each other.

I have started Adele in cloth already, some nappies fit better than others. The brands I have used so far are: Baby Beehinds, Widdlewuns, Fluffy Bubs, Fluff E Stuff, Peechee Cloth, itti bitti, Dragonfly Magik, Bubblebubs... um, there's probably heaps more lol! I have also used Cushie Tushie, but am not so keen on them.

Small sized nappies will generally fit from this young, and some one size fits most (osfm) will too. It all depends on your bub. Adele is quite chunky round the middle, so I'm finding a lot of nappies fit her already.

As for liners, I just use microfleece liners (so can be washed and re-used). I bought some microfleece from spotlight and made my own. Actually, I have more fabric than I'm ever going to need, so if you or Reet are interested I could post some of it to you?

Reet - as this is our last bub I'm not going to buy more cloth nappies to fit Breezer just yet, my collection is probably size M, L and OSFM. I originally started DD1 in them when she was about 10 mths or so, now DS is in them, and when Bree is able to fit into them she'll wear them too (everything is handed down in this household lol). I like the Baby Beehinds 'All in One's' for day time use, and we have the normal bamboo ones too, but I found they'd still leak thru overnight (for both kids), it eased a bit with the added use of Maz's minkee covers (Maz is a banned member of BB ;) - and she is a WAHM - her nappies ROCK!). And we also use Itti Bitties too.

Sterla - I'm loving the pics of Adele :) - she melts my heart! Yay for the 5 hour block - longest I've gotten was 5.5 hours followed by 2 hours, but I was happy with that. How is Master O going with his big brother duties?

Shelly - I have given up too - mainly due to supply issues again, I think we got to about 4.5wks, but I was kinda expecting it. You've lined that precious bubba's belly with gold - so that is brilliant hun!

Jaycee - I hope Masters K and J are feeling better ASAP. Have you managed to find that swing yet?

Hi to Sahbear, KTS64S, ezymay and anyone whose names have escaped me ;)!

AFM - Breezer is just breezy lol. I had to convince the GP at the 6 wk check up that she was in fact 6 weeks old. She weighed in at 5.75kgs and was now 57.5cms long, but that was last Monday. She gives a mean bicep work out lol! Other than I'd like her to reach for a 6 hr block overnight, I wont hold my breath lol. We are usually able to get a 4-5.5 hr block out of her then a 2-3 hr block overnight, and I hate to admit that this broken sleep is quite refreshing for me. I feel more tired after solid nights sleep oddly enough!

Uh oh, 2 mth needles are coming up already ladies!!!! (For those who immunise ;)).

Haha cloth is just so exciting hey!!! :)

Kts- I have ordered 7 baby beehind nappies, and a couple itti bitti ones. I got them mostly in small but got a couple of the one size fits all. They will hopefully arrive by the weekend.. im so excited!! I also have 12 home made terry toweling ones with homemade liners. I ordered some liners off the itti bitti website along with some cloth wipes so i can re-use them. Sterlas micro-fleece is a great idea tho! I might just have to do that! :)
I think im going to do 1 day cloth, 1 day disposables to start with.. just til i get the hang of it all.. plus 1 think i will only have enough nappies to do that anyway! Im definitely gonna stick with disposables at night. Sienna is a big wee'er so im going to be changing her enough as it is during the days.
I say if u have the nappies start using them! Let us know how u go!! :)

Sterla- Thanks for the offer of the fleece! How much is it to buy from spotlight?? Wld posting it work out cheaper then buying it?? If it does i will transfer some money to u! U dont have to sew it do u.. are u just cutting them and using it that way?? I cant sew!
We were having a few dramas with wind but Sienna seems to be able to sort it out pretty well now.. she lets out some absolute rippers!! Lovely juicy ones too haha. Love the way she grunts out her poos.. u wldnt think she wld have to since they are so runny anyway! We have some natural wind medicine that we have given her a few times when we havent been able to settle her.. do u use anything?? I wonder if the letdown will settle down for us..?? I think Sienna loves it most of the time tho, she can just kick back and swallow and not have to do any work! When Adele pulls off to cough and splutter do u end up spraying her face with milk??! My poor little Sienna girl gets covered if im not quick enough to put something over my boob! haha. She sits there looking a little bewildered for a while til the hunger takes over again.
Oh a cloth nappy question.. do u soak ur nappies before washing or just dry pale them?? And if u do soak do u put anything in the water?? Thanks!

Shelly- Dont be in awe that i cld do my birth without drugs.. I HAD NO CHOICE!!! haha. When u have no other option u just have to deal with it! Altho i am very grateful that it turned out the way it did.. :)
Oh and the cradle swing sounds great! I might have to look into one! Not sure if u saw one of my status' on fb but i started a bit of a debate about the whole self soothing thing. It started off with me saying i wish there was such a thing as a vibrating cot mattress to help put babies to sleep. Well! there was a couple girls that were against that and are all for self soothing etc. Funny thing is one of the girls doesnt even have children! Shes a nanny! Ofcourse its easier to let someone elses baby cry them selves to sleep! ggrrr. She actually deleted all her comments so it might not make a lot of sense now. But i say if ur baby needs to go to sleep with a bit of help from mummy or something else then go for it! Babies arent meant to be able to self soothe themselves, i know it can be trained into them but i really dont think that letting a baby cry itself to sleep is very good! It goes against mothers instinct! Babies just want to be loved and cuddled like the rest of us!! :) Anyway back to the point, the swing sounds great! Im so glad im not the only one that struggles with putting my baby to sleep! :)

AFM- Well things here have been great the last couple days. Sienna has been a little angel! All weekend she was really unsettled and barely slept at all and i was starting to get a bit frustrated but yesterday and today she hasnt done anything but sleep! She must be having a bit of a growth spurt! Its weird tho when shes waking during the night she is only feeding for 5 mins (not that im complaining.. it means i can go straight back to sleep too!) and falling back to sleep and lasting between 2-4 hrs.. actually thats been happening during the day too. Ive been having to express because my boobs arent getting used enough and i dont want them to stop making milk only for her to get her appetite back again and feed feed feed! She is still weeing lots and poos about 4 times a day so she must be getting enough to fill her up!
Tonight she has been asleep solidly since 6pm... im a bit worried that she might be awake all nite now! Altho i have found the opposite..if she has a good settled day she normally has a good settled night too.

Anyway better go and have a shower while i can, i bet she wakes up just as im getting in tho!

Hi Leesa! Im gonna have to write back to u tomoro.. just remembered i have cloth on Sienna now and she has been asleep for hrs and the wee is leaking thru her clothes onto her beautiful sheepskin rug!!! OH NO! Looks like im gonna have to wake her up! :)

Reet: I ended up with about 900mm of microfleece, and it cost me about $9, but that was only because some of it was a half-off remnant. If you PM me your address I'll post some of it to you (I'm posting some to kts too) - and don't worry about paying for it. If postage is a little exxy you can pay for that, otherwise don't worry about it :).
Cloth is heaps of fun! I'm loving having a girl this time so I can put Adele in gorgeous girly nappies! You should check out the Firefly Collective - a bunch of different nappy designers all design and sell nappies the first and third Sunday of every month with a running theme. This months theme is retro! I think the next stocking is Sunday 19th. Check them out on FB if you're interested :).
Lol, I SO know what you mean about the juicy big farts! I'm amazed at how much wind one little baby is able to have in her tummy with all the farts that come out of her! I've actually found that Adele's wind problems seem to be slowly sorting themselves out. She's burping easier and doesn't seem like she's in pain as often. I guess these babies work things out in their own time :).

Leesa: I love Maz covers too! I bought one for DS the other day with Cat in the Hat fabric on it - very cute! I really want to get some more for both DS and Adele to go over our BBH bamboo and hemp nappies - I always seem to miss her stockings though!
DS is going great being a big brother. I can't get over how much he seems to love her already - there's been almost no jealousy, just lots of cuddles and kisses. I can't wait till Adele is a bit older and can interact with him more - he'll love it! How are you kiddies going with Bree?

AFM: It is absolutely pouring here today - has been all day, so there's not much to do. I actually have mum's group soon, but I'm dreading going out in this weather. Thankfully my little sister is on holidays and is going to come along to help me :).

Hi Ladies!!

Well I had to take B to the Pead for a follow up appt due to his jaundice he had at birth. B was 6 weeks yesterday and weighs 4.95kgs and increase of 1200g in six weeks which I am pleased with. I guess he is getting enought milk. With DD I was always extremely worried if she was getting enough breast milk as I hate not being able to physically see how much they are getting. This time around I am much more confident that BF is going well. With DD I only made it to six weeks then expressed for another 6 wks before changing to formula.

So I gues for those ladies who have had to switch to formula next time around there is always hope if that is something you wish to do.

I'm off to the Drs tomorrow for B to have his needles :crossfingers: that he is ok with them, I really don't want anything to upset my Bub.

I have to get out the cloth nappies and start using those, I wasn;t too impressed at 1 am this morning when I had to change B completly as his nappy had leaked and his enitre clothing was soaked.

Anyway, hope to hear from you Ladies to see how you all are going!

Hi all, sorry it has been ages since I've been in here.

I had Phoebe weighed on Wednesday and she has put on 1.2kg since birth so is now 4.9kg and she is 57cm long. I have put most of the 0000 away as she no longer fits in them. I even put her in a 00 last night and it was only a little bit big. I want her to slow down so I can savour my last baby being a baby. We are having some sleep issues here as well as she has decided that midnight is the time to wake up and play :shakehead: I am not getting to bed until 1.30am most nights and then having to do a dream feed and then getting up to the other kids at 7am means that I am not getting much sleep. I try to have a day sleep but it doesn't always work.

For those of you who are having supply issues sometimes having a couple of glasses of sustagen a day helps. I am doing this (not that I have trouble this time) and am finding that I have heaps of milk so I'm even expressing and freezing :) My friend made the lactation cookies and she swore by them so sometimes it is trial and error to find something that works. I also understand that sometimes no matter what you do you still don't have enough (me last time with Meara) and I ended up b/f'ing and ff'ing and then just ff'ing. What ever works I say.

I am not using cloth nappies either :blush: but I find sposies so much easier and when I did use cloth nappies my kids ended up with really bad nappy rash. Even if I changed them 50 times a day. Hopefully soon Phoebe will be the only one in nappies at all. Meara is still in them for night time. Phoebe has also gone up to infant size nappies instead of newborn.

Have to go - Phoebe is screaming and wants a feed. Take care all

Reet – What a great birth story – I understand the denial, but in a different way – I was induced, and even on the way to the hospital – I didn’t really think I would be bringing home a baby at the end of the week!

Lessa – What a great size Bree is! E is having his needles on Tuesday – I hope it doesn’t unsettle him too much – not that I should complain as he is a really good baby, so I shouldn’t whinge if he isn’t – and I have some panadol on hand just on case on the advice of the mchn!

Sterla – the cloth nappies you were talking about sound great – even though I don’t do cloth I am going to have to have to try and find some, one of my girlfriends wants too when she has a bub – so I would love to buy some for her as a gift.

Any yup – I cant belive the farts that come out of my little man – the do crack me up!

Kts64s – how did Bailey go with his needles? I hope he didn’t get upset? Sounds like you guys are going great with the BF!

Shelly - Good on you for going as long as you did with the BF – I know once I made the decision once and for all that I couldn’t continue – I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
How is the cradle swing going – I have been looking at them – and not sure if I want to get one or not – so would love to see what you think of it now you have been using it for a bit?

KimB – great to hear from you! Hopefully your sleep issues sort out sooner rather than later.
i dont know how you ladies with other kids do it - you must be great jugglers!

All good here – had E weighed and since we have increased his formula he has put on about 600grams in a little over 2 weeks, so I am feeling much better!
He is still in his 0000’s clothes, but I am putting him in some 000’s just so I can see him in something different! Haha – they are big on him, but he doesn’t seem to mind…

Leesa- I find the broken sleep is refreshing too! U dont wake up with that really tired crappy feeling in the morning.. probably cos u dont really have time to get into a deep sleep! Ur night time sounds a lot like mine, Sienna normally sleeps from 10ish to 3am and then up again at 6am, thats when i bring her in with me and we cuddle til like 8! :) Love it!

Sterla- Cool i will pm u my address soon! thanku! and yeah let me know postage costs :) i checked out the firefly collectives.. from the sound of it its quite difficult to get ur hands on anything! im not sure i have the patience!
oh and how do i find maz's stuff?? does she have a webpage?? im looking for some covers atm.. thanks!

KimB- Wow u sound busy! I hope Pheobe starts learning soon that 12am isnt playtime!! cheeky little girl :) I hope u manage to get some rest over the weekend.

I was still trying to make her fit into a lot of them a couple weeks ago until my sister noticed and told me it was mean cos she cldnt stretch her legs out!! haha. AFM- Well i feel as tho i shld get the worst mummy in the world award... Tonight i am going to a show called Hypnolarious (its meant to be a really funny show where ppl get hypnotised..always wanted to go to one!) with 2 girlfriends and leaving my darling little Sienna with my dad..he lives 2 minutes from the theatre its being held so its my best option! He loves her to absolute bits and is over the moon i am letting him babysit, hes so good with her so i know i dont have to worry but i still am.. i have told him one single little peep from her he has to call me and i will leave and get her.. the show only goes from 8-930 at the latest and hopefully she will just sleep the whole time. I am feeding her like every half an hour now just so her tummy is nice and full. Im feeling so guilty for going, like im just abandoning her so i can have a laugh.. i wish dh was in town.. i wldnt feel half as bad then! Now i understand the whole mothers guilt thing....

Reet - dont feel guilty! go and enjoy yourself! I am sure your Dad is feeling very special that you are letting him look after her!

Just a quick post from me on my phone. DH is on the PC and Baby bear is wingeing right now, refuses to sleep. Grrrr!
Oh and cradle swing, we got ours 2nd hand cos they are exp and a friend was getting rid of hers, but even if you had to buy it new hubby and I both think it is worth every cent! (major compliment as DH is a tight ar$e!)
