Babies Born ~ April 2012 #1

Hi guys,
Leckert - putting spray up Wade's nose before feeds and sleep at night sounds like a good idea.
Becky - I try and bath the girls early in the day also, it certainly helps the evening run smoother.
AFM - Emily's stuffy nose is much better and she is sleeping really well. Sarah on the other hand is being quite naughty again, shouting at me and doing loud sighs whenever I ask her to do something. She has also wet her pants everyday for the last three days!!! I am hoping it will pass. Any ideas will be much appreciated?

Leckert - Good boy Wade! Hoping that Ellie will do the same for me one night soon!

Crowe - Glad to hear Emily is getting better. Yes Ava has been more naughty since Ellie has arrived, she also yells alot and has been very testing at times. I think all of this behaviour is quite normal and it's a bit deal having another person in the picture now when it was all about them not long ago. Sarah wetting her pants would be to get attention I would say. I don't think you should get cranky at her or make a big deal out of it as this is probably the reaction she wants. I would just say in an i don't care voice "Oh dear" clean her up and change the subject. She will soon get that it doesn't bother you and she's not getting the reaction she wants. Sometimes I have noticed that Ava seems to be more satisfied when she makes me cry or if I get really cranky the little bugger. Not sure what else to do about the yelling as I'm trying to work that one out also. I honestly think they will get over it soon.......hopefully.

Here's hoping Becky. I have a bloody cold and am desperately trying to keep it away from the girls. Hope your all doing ok!

Oh no Crowe you poor thing! Yes don't want the girls to get it. We are doing ok hope your all well!

So excited! Well we all know my little monkey does not sleep well of a night time and wakes every 2 hours, well guess what? she only woke once at 2:30 this morning YAY! Please do it again tonight bubba :)

Sounds like she's settling down Becky. Wade's still a bit all over the place- we had one 5hr sleep the other night and then back to 2-3hr sleeps; last night was 3hrs roughly. I'm putting it down mostly to good & bad nights with his snuffly nose.

Yeah sucks doesn't it leckert! I haven't done anything different she's just done it on her own and I'm sure Wade will too :) like you said his stuffy nose would make him sleep worse poor darling. Wow the 5hr sleep was good. Wade when your all better you do that again for mummy ok! :)

Sounds like these bubba's are starting to settle. Good work little ones!

Well Ellie was sleeping well for about 5 nights now she is waking about 3 times a night again :( not sure what has gone wrong but I am sooooo tired and wish she would sleep well again. Amazing how down and how hard it is to cope with things when your tired. Poor hubby and 3 year old have been putting up with a very cranky and teary person :( Hoping things get better soon. Hope your all well and your bubba's are behaving :)

Hope ellie settles back into a routine for you - I found with ds1 it was easier when he was in some rough routine for sleeps to cope with (even if it was 3-4 wake ups) as you got used to & expected the wake ups at approx times. Wade seems to be settling into a bed at 9pm, 1/2am wake for change & feed 5/6am feed, & 7/8am up for the day routine. He doesn't seem to stay down for the night until around 9pm but I'm kind of used to expecting that as ds1 was like that for ages and slowly moved to 8pm bedtime.

Hi Becky and Leckert,
How is Ellie and Wade going? Emily is having the same sleep routine as Wade it seems. She was skipping the 1am feed there for a couple of weeks but she has been waking again for it for the last two nights. I think that she just gets hungry (growth spurt maybe) so needs the extra feed occasionally. It is hard to get used to the changes in sleep habit though, especially my boobs.
I am looking at having to have an ultrasound this week because I am still bleeding after 8.5 weeks!!! They think I may have some retained placenta :( I guess that means a d&c and general anaesthetic which then means bf issues. I can't express because everytime I do I get mastitis symptoms so I am really really not happy. I guess I will have to use a formula feed? Hopefully only one, do you guys know anything about operations and bf?
Anyway enough about me, I hope your both doing well otherwise :)

Wade's generally doing well - still have issues with gas/poop and his tummy - doesn't want to move through all that well at times do seeing a Chiro for this; keep getting told his gut's still maturing (cyh nurse, Pead & chiro) - if still happening in month or so will be chasing up further. Seems to be semi constipated at times as he just has tiny poops, barely making it out for the crack area so been having a bit of nappy rash which has meant I haven't been using MCNs yet :( and had to use disposables longer than I wanted (only want to use them at night and for childcare when I go back).

Can't help with the op & bfing thing; have you posted in the bfing forum area? Barb (? Bf guru - think her name is barb) might have some ideas - often you can still bf with ops.

Hi Girls Ellie is doing well still smiling away and and sleeping better again. Back to the routine of finally settling at 9pm after several attempts of putting her in her bassinett from about 7:30pm then waking around 1-2am then awake again around 5ish and awake for the day at 7am.

Crowe - So sorry to hear you may have to have an operation but don't panic about about the whole breastfeeding after surgery as anesthetic drugs are administered for a short period of nearly always less than two hours, and analgesic drugs to relieve the pain of surgery are administered for only a few days. The total doses of these drugs ingested by an infant is negligable, and intestinal absorption of these drugs by suckling infant is also negligible, which is why the advice of all experts is simply to continue breastfeeding after any operation. If a woman feels she is capable of breastfeeding her baby after an operation, she may do so in full knowledge that any anesthetic and analgesic drugs present in her blood will not affect her child. Just make sure you feed just before going in for your operation and also take a bottle and formula just incase.

Leckert - Poor Wade is he in much pain with his gas/poo problem? If so must be so hard for you all. Ellie has alot of wind aswell and it doesn't like to come out the other end and often wakes up in pain the poor thing. Did the nurse/pediatician/chiro give you any idea at how many months babies guts mature?

Becky thankyou for the advice you have really eased my mind. How is Ellie going without the dummy? Has she settled with your hubby yet so you can have your shower space? Glad she is getting a sleep routine.
Leckert here's hoping little Wade's tummy/poo issue sorts itself quickly. He is still sleeping so he must be a trooper. Thanks also for the b'f referral for advice.
AFM I have my scan Thurs and will go from there. Girls are going great.

No worries Crowe I'm gald you feel better, honestly I wouldn't panic about it :) Glad your girls are doing well. Ellie is settling alot better with hubby but still have those days were my shower is jump in jump out :( oh well I'm sure it will get better. Good luck for Thursday!

Wade had a session this morning where he farted like a trooper on him own :leap: still sleeping reasonably
