Babies Born ~ December 2014
I am just now two days without dairy and caffeine. To see if it helps the poor lad. I can't believe how smelly his wind and poop is though. Def not sweet smelling at all. My mother and Nan have started the formula hints, but last night after an exhausting couple of days and bub not sleeping of a night hubby and I had a huge blow up. He suggesting I'm not doing anything to try and help DS and that I should consider trying formula. It's so frustrating. I fed my DD until she was almost two and that was something my DH use to be proud of but now.... Well. What I need is support to work out what the problem is :( . Mildez yeah close to your DS, he isn't sleeping great. Only really sleeps when held during the day. Of a night he was previously laying down for some stints but he isn't happy to anymore. Is once a week ok for this age though?
Yikes about loosing your birth forms. That is so bad. How do you go about that now? Financial stress on top of newborn responsibilities is hard hard hard! I hope they can sort it for you asap. You poor thing. Thanks turtledove - he feeds frequently and I don't feel my supply is low. I'm leaning towards an intolerance. I will call the ABA for sure. We don't get anything payment wise either. With my DD we did as I was working up until she was born but have been a stay at home Mum ever since so no paid parental leave this time round.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I am expecting to get paid parental leave which if you have been working for so many months before your baby is born you may be entitled to. Its for 18weeks. And then family tax benefit which I get the minimum but it still helps with a bit of extra food or petrol. I was so prepared financially and had many thousands put aside but my dental bill which was unexpected was over 3K plus I happened to hit someone elses car a week before DS was born. It was the same as my excess so I just paid for it myself. All these unexpected costs has drained me and I guess that's why I am unhappy about it as I did feel I was really prepared to have up to a year from work. My older kids are at private schooling plus I have an ongoing orthodontic expense for my eldest so lots of direct debits.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Centrelink tried to tell me I didn't go in but as I have a medicare card with DS on it then that apparently proves they have it. Which I'd been telling them for weeks. Apparently it was not scanned onto my file and they have discarded the yellow hospital form and it can't be replaced. The hospital wont do duplicate copies. So they have apologised and said there is nothing that can be done without DS birth certificate. Which we didn't put in until he was 6weeks old.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Rosey a week is fine for 8-9weeks old. The longer they don't go the smellier gas seems to be. Is he very windy? A fully BF baby not on solids you would expect a very soft stool. Its not hard at all is it? Is his weight gain still good? Only you can decide the best option for you and your DS with feeding. In Australia really at the end of the day fed is best weather is breast or formula. We are luck to have access to safe water and formula if that turns out to be the better option for what ever reason. Its hard to say if formula is the answer with the stuff you have said. There is a good chance it wont make any difference or even make his discomfort worse but if your getting to the end of your teather then it can't hurt to try.
My DS is a bit more settled now and doesn't seem to have the reflux symptoms as bad as he did 2weeks ago. He mostly gets comfort from feeding so that's good.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Wow Rosie, feeding your DD until nearly 2 is certainly an achievement! I'm sure you will get there with your DS after you've worked through the hurdles. You mentioned that your DD didn't sleep either. Was she similar to your DS? You are doing well working through eliminations. The book "mother food" has a great chapter on foods that can cause colic etc.
Definitely call the ABA if for nothing else more than encouragement. Have you considered working with a lactation consultant? I found it invaluable, not just to assess position etc, but for reading babies cues and understanding his behaviour etc. In our experience we tried 5 different formulas, including a homemade one, before we found one that seems to agree with him. His poo still isn't mustard yellow, but he doesn't seem to be as agitated by it. And he'll actually drink it. So formula certainly isn't a quick fix. How do you feel about chiropractic care for babies?
Hang in there, I know you can do it!
Mildez, that is really rough. Centrelink admits they lost the paperwork and apologises, but can't pay you what you are entitled to? Can you speak with someone higher up about it? I don't think we are entitled to anything. I'll find out about FTB at tax time, but we are needing to cut back on expenses too. Is there something you can do from home to help supplement until you're ready to go back to work?
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
TD I think I just have to hang in there. For the last 2 years my income has been almost double that of my DH so to no longer have that for now was always going to be hard. Most of the other things I could do is considered a conflict of interest with my permanent job and actually breeches the code of conduct so its not much of an option.
Rosey have you tried the formula and if so did you see a difference? I guess one or two bottles is too much to expect much of a change.

Turtledove - yes my DS is very similar to my DD but he is easier to get to sleep. I should read that book. I'm five days clean, lol, of caffeine and dairy. I have noticed an improvement - hardly any grunting and not many unsettled periods. Also having a few 20min naps the last couple of days! Could I be onto something or coincidence... Time will tell. Chiro for babies I would try as it has done wonders for me but hubby isn't comfortable with it. How are things going with you? How's your babe going?
Mildez hope they sort it super fast for you. How's your little man? And your big children? Didn't try the formula no.
Babies Born ~ December 2014
Ps. Have been reading the old pregnancy thread of a night when I'm awake. Ah I miss having a baby in my belly.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Hi ladies, I have been so busy on a FB group that I totally forgot about BB! So good to see all your bubs are doing well. I haven't had a chance to read all the posts ywt and just popping in to say hi atm but will update in more detail later xx
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Rosey - yay for being more settled. Did it continue? How is your new diet going?
Phebee- welcome back! I aren't on fb, so this is my only outlet :)
Mildez - how is your little man? Any joy with centrelink?
Afm - three months old. 14 weeks today. Why do they have to grow so quickly? His body clock is all over the place. His only decent sleep during the day yesterday was 5:15-8:30pm. Then awake until midnight. He has just put himself to sleep on the playmat, I let him grizzle as I was pumping. Not cry, just a tired grizzle for 2 mins. Feeding is still all over the place. He fights the bottle most of the time, feels like it goes on all day :( he is so gorgeous tho, I love how his face lights up when he sees me :)
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
TD I have just received confirmation my paid parental leave has been approved. Apparently they were looking for my lost forms under another name not using my customer reference number. Thank God its sorted and hopefully I can now afford to stay at home for the amount of time we planned. Your DS must be exactly 4 weeks older then mine as my bub is 10weeks today.
Rosey I loved having a baby belly although I didn't have a nice belly bump this time. Small baby and extra weight I just looked like a beach whale. Never again for me. DH just put his consent in for a vasectomy yesterday. We are done. Its a bit sad but its for all the right reasons plus we have 4 kids. These days that's not a small family.
Babies Born ~ December 2014
TD- I would love it if little man had an hours sleep even once a day. He is a 20min cat napper. I am thankful for even that though. We have been using the Amby Baby Hammock - we pop him in and gently swing it till he's asleep. While it's not self settling it is freeing my hands some what. I notice that I can't often get DS asleep until 11pm - then he will do his longest night time sleep which is 3 hours, then feed resettle and sleep for either an hour or two, then he come into bed with me. I find these early weeks a guessing game regarding sleep and I don't even try with a routine till much later. I'm sure others may find routine works for them - I can't make it stick this early though. That's great he self settled. I'm sorry that feeding is still all over the place? That must be hard for you. Are you still trying him on the boob aswell? How have you been feeling?
Mildez that's gear that they have approved hour leave! What a relief. Totally can't believe ten weeks has passed already. Waaahhh! We will have one year olds before we all know it!
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I know... Three months is quarter of the way there, it's going far too quickly!
Mildez - yay for approving your PPL! That's wonderful :)
Rosey - the hammock sounds like a good transition. DS used to self settle in his electric swing, but not anymore. Yay for longer stretches overnight, at least he has his days and nights around the right way
Still bfeeding as much as we can, using the SNS. It can be fiddly but have had some positive experiences lately. He often will take that and not the bottle. Learning to read his hungry cues all over again now that he is awake more than asleep!
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I'm missing my baby bump too! My uterus is begging to be stretched and kicked, I often sleep on my tummy so I can feel the pressure there.
Back on the topic of immunisations, has anyone seen the movie "Bought" ? You can view it free online until the end of the weekend. I can't post the link, but if you goggle it it should come up. It's about how the pharmaceutical companies are controlling things, background info on immunisations, etc. Very worthwhile if you get the time, I really recommend it.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
My little boy rolled over for the first time last night. He is only three months! He was on his playmat on his back, and almost got all the way over but couldn't work out what to do with his lower arm. Daddy then put him on his tummy and he rolled all the way from tummy to back.
It's exciting and I can't help but be a little bit proud of him, but didn't expect it to happen so soon! He's growing too quickly!
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Yay!! Go lil dude!!!
Spock rolled at 12 weeks. Quark has looked like she might get half way once, and she is now 14 1/2 weeks.
Your little dude is awesome
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Awesome on the rolling. We are currently in Paeds. DS had a febrile convulsion this morning. His been sick of days :(
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Oh Mildez, hope he is ok!
