Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
That's horrible. I felt bad today for letting DS cry whilst I finished the vacuuming. It was under 2minutes as I am expecting visitors and in that time he stopped and had put himself to sleep. His still asleep now an hour later lying on the floor on the lounge room on a pillow (a bit of a SIDS no no) but I am watching him constantly. I am wondering if I attend to him to quickly as he never settles himself normally. His getting a bit better. I am sometimes able to rub his head to get him to sleep. Usually he needs a nipple in his mouth. If his not hungry or in his witch hour DH was able to take him for a walk in the pram in his witchy period. As soon as he stopped the pram he howled :)
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Oh yea that's awful :( . Poor baby!
I can get DS to self settle. Do feed, play, sleep - wrap while happy, into bassinet, dummy and ocean sounds. Off he goes. The problem is staying asleep. He wakes minutes later screaming, he's the same in his rocker. I can spend hours doing the resettle and back down, but still only five mins. I truly feel it's reflux. Poor darling. After a certain amount of tries he goes straight into the ergo where he sleeps happily.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
They are trying to teach her that night = no stimulation. Getting a need met isn't stimulation!
Bubby will usually feed at about midnight, then again at 4ish, but goes straight back to sleep. During the day he is much harder to settle, he really fights sleep, and won't feed to sleep. I have to swaddle and rock him, which can take ages, but left on his own he just grizzles & cries when he's tired. Put him in the Manduca and he's straight to sleep. Until I stop bouncing or walking. He won't put himself to sleep in the swing anymore.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
My DS is still asleep on the pillow. His startled a few times as his not wrapped but has not woken up. DD3 is asleep too. This is rare :) If they are still asleep in an hour I have to wake them to get DD2 from the bus. DD1's bus arrived 40mins after. Naps usually interfere with bus runs.
I don't stimulate DS at night either although he doesn't scream. He will start sooking or warning me if I don't get him the screaming will soon start. Everything is done in the dark. He feeds 3-4times usually but goes back to sleep. He wakes as soon as the sun is up. His so adorable with his big eyes looking around and his so smiley. DH gets up early for work and will often take him out for a chat and time with him. Its his happy time too which is nice and I try and get a bit more sleep. DH doesn't help at all overnight. Not that I ask him. He would if I asked but as he cant feed him I think no point us both being awake.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
See Mildez, you are tending to him before he screams. Entirely different to letting him cry himself to sleep in the name of "no stimulation"!
How long did he sleep on the pillow for? We only have one car, so getting to any appointments means taking DH to work and picking him up. Often means three trips in and out on one day. Always messes with naps. For that reason I'm weighing up whether mothers group is worthwhile. Did you ladies find it helpful?
DH is more of a night owl than I, so he will often take DS from 9-12 so that I can get some sleep. After that I'm on my own, which is totally fine as DH is the one that needs to get up and go to work the next day.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Hi ladies, how are you all?
How are your babies going? Lots of saliva and bubbles here, has noticed his toes and is mesmerized, arm control is pretty good - gets hands to mouth, will grab my hand if held infront of his face, lots of cheeky smiles and cooing, trying to pull forward when resting back against legs etc. Sleep isn't really improving, hates the car. This kid is seriously adorable! I can't get enough of him, could eat him all up!
I'd love an update on your Bubs if you want to share :)
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Wow Rosie, your bub is doing well! My little guy has only just started hand in his mouth, playing with his feet and bubbles, and he is 12 weeks. Still not grabbing objects. Loves his play gym, will happily lie under there for an hour, but prefers to kick rather than touch.
This past week he has decided he is a big boy and doesn't need sleep anymore! Last night would not go down until 1am. Just wanted to smile and coo at me. So he's a bit clingy today. Hopefully this non sleeping is just a phase!
He is so gorgeous. I wish he could stay this age forever. I get teary thinking that soon he's going to be running around, and won't be content to lie in my arms staring and cooing at mummy!
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I have another cheeky one, 12wks yesterday, hands to mouth and starting to reach for objects, will grasp them if I put them in her hand and she goos like mad. Even tho she is sleeping less than last week, she is still a better sleeper than Spock, so I
M enjoying it =)
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Turtledove - wow happy to lay for an hour. I'm super impressed! My little mate doesn't play with his feet he just looks at them and practices moving them :), which has only been the last two days. His movements are still very jerky. He is in his 8th week. Bugger about the sleep! 1am bed time is a killer, at least he wasn't crying I suppose :/ . Are you familiar with 'The Wonder Weeks', they have done long term research into babies fussy periods finding predictable leaps that all babies take. There's one around 12 weeks, so hopefully that explains his lack of sleep. You can get a Wonder a Weeks app which is handy. I too get teary, babyhood slips through your fingers so rapidly. It really will be over all too soon. Que tears. He will still love laying in your arms though :)
TT40 glad you got a better sleeper this time and double yay for enjoying it.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Glad I'm not the only one Rosey! Most days I'm in denial that he'll ever get older than 3 months. DH can't wait for him to start crawling, but I honestly love him as a little baby.
Yes, 12 weeks is a wonder week. Seems like his patterns change every week tho, wonder week or not! He's been a good sleeper ever since the SCN, so I can't complain. DH stayed up with him last night as I wasn't feeling too good.
TT40, is your bub holding her head up yet?
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
TD, quark could hold her head up from a week, but yes now she is using her back and holding herself upright. We put her in the bouncer and she tries to sit herself up, most happy when sitting up on our laps
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
My baby still has a major wobble neck. Every week his improving but. His not doing near as much as it sounds like your bubs are. He has no control over his hands just still tends to flap them around or gouge at his face still. He still has the jerky arm and leg movements. Tummy time is improving. He at least can lift his head up now. A few weeks ago he couldn't do it. His tone is actually pretty poor and despite been born at 39+3 he did has some prem features. Funny as he was 3 weeks more cooked then my 2nd DD but didn't seem as mature as she did. He is having a go at chatting. Its so cute and the cutest noises come out of him. He talks to my boobs a lot. He feeds 3-4 times overnight but I find him so easy overnight. Just feeds for 10mins then he goes straight back to sleep usually.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Wow TT, holding head up at a week? I didn't even know that was possible!
Our little guy has really only just started doing that this week at 12 weeks. He is strong in the legs, but not so much in the upper body.
Mildez, your bub is also a bit younger... End of Dec? I'm sure you're just enjoying him and not worrying about milestones :)
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Getting pressure to try formula :( . Bub won't lay down to sleep and on the odd occasion he does doesn't sleep more then 20mins, is windy, passes offensive smelling gas, gets congestion from time to time, grunts like he needs to poo when laid down and people seem to think all his 'problems' will be solved by trying formula.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Might also add bub is only pooing once a week. I'm at a loss.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
Once a week is normal for a BF bub Rosey. I hope you and your DS get some relief soon from the discomfort he might have. How is he sleeping overnight? Is he born a day or two before my bub? My DS was born on the 30th.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
I don't have much to report. Currently as poor as a church mouse. Centrelink conveniently misplaced my birth forms so I have no proof of DS birth. I rang birth deaths and marriages and they said to expect anther 6-8 week wait for the birth certificate. So I don't get any PPL I was expecting or FTB. I'm so angry about it. On top of my dental expenses it really sucks. I swear these things seem to only happen to me.
DS is having a grumpy week. He was weighed last week and is now 2.5kgs heavier then his birth weight.
Re: Babies Born ~ December 2014
That's really rough Rosie. Who is pressuring you? Family & friends or health carers? If there are no problems with his gains, no need to consider it. And even if there are, there are other options first. How often does he feed? If there is no question on your supply, he could be getting mostly foremilk. Maybe call the ABA for advice. Breastmilk is a "perfect food" so it is mostly digested and as Mildez said once a week is normal. Have you tried eliminating potential triggers, dairy, caffeine, certain veggies etc? Gluten can also cause constipation if there is a sensitivity. There are also drops you can give bub to help with colic. Mildez might know.
Mildez, I'm sorry that you are having financial struggles. That is really irresponsible of centrelink, no wonder you feel angry! Can the hospital help you with proof of birth? I didn't know there were any payments available. We have found having a baby to be much more expensive than we anticipated.
