That's alright then, you just did exceptionally well then Rose!
Lol Faye he was only just over 7 pounds when he was born, so has a lot of catching up to do! Is 8 and a half now :)
We're here! 14 days over but am sure she'd still be cooking if she had her way. It took a lot of effort to get her out. Totally in love & grateful that I have been able to expand my family. Will write more details in the next day or two.
sore boobs!
had a big bath with dd. she loved it. dh got her out and was drying her when he called out 'you want dd back in?' she had done big poo in the towel. ;)
Lol better in the towel that in the bath with you I guess!
Sore boobs here too - I feel like DS has been permanently attached to them the last 24 hours!
Yay TT! Welcome :) cmon starry!
Aleksander is 1 week old today and is already 100g above birth weight. Milk is well and truly in and he feeds like a trooper. He's a very placid baby. Especially compared to DS1 at the same age! I'm also a Hell of a lot more confident!
Great job candy!
Lol Hotl, after EVERY bath, ds either pee's or poos in the towel.. I think it's because he must love baths so much, he wants to go back in after I've taken him out. Lol.
Sore boobs here too... Because ds has been sleeping in 5 hour stretches at night instead of 2.5!! Woohoo! We are definitely going to continue bed sharing. This is amazing :)
Ladies, I need to have a tooth fixed that I broke during labour. Yup, bit down so hard that I broke the back out of my own tooth!
My question is: is it safe to have dental work, with local anesthesia, while feeding?
And add to this, off to the doc with bub tomorrow. His belly button keeps bleeding whenever he tenses his little tummy. While it's only oozing, it's consistent, and worrying me.
No advice candy, hope the doctor can help tomorrow.
Not sure on the anesthetic candy but geez you must have bitten hard lol
Midwives told me if DS's belly looked oozy etc put some breast milk on it!
Candee: I have had terrible teeth issues. Ds first outing was to an after hours dentist at 10 days old. Anyway, I am breastfeeding and have had two lots of local anaesthetic and a general anaesthetic for a tooth extraction. I have lots more dental work to go to.
I rang monash medical drug info line and it's all perfectly safe while breastfeeding. The local anaesthetic didn't impact baby at all. The general made him a bit more sleepy which was good because I needed to recover.
I hope you get yours sorted quickly. I'm still eating mushy foods and having pain at the op site. I need to get a root canal and bridge and crown done too. It's so annoying. Pregnancy really takes it out of my teeth it seems!
Thanks girls. Faye - I spent a lot of time during my labor apologising for verbalizing my pain, and then when I bit down trying to stifle...... I also apologized during labor to DP for throwing up, and then for bleeding post placenta.... Lol.
Arcadia - yup, my teeth seem to have taken a hiding. I have a dental phobia, so I'm not looking forward to this at all. I'd pick childbirth all over again :(
How's everyone going? Our check went smoothly. Doc isn't worried about his belly button at all. They took a swab to test just to put my mind at rest.
Weighed him and he's put on 130g in 6 days. So he's now 230g above birth weight in 12 days :) plus I am now 6 days further along in breast feeding than last time. I'm giving myself a hi 5 for that!
High five Candy!
Woohoo Candy!
Excellent candy!!
That's great candy! Keep up the good work :)
Hi ladies!
Definite hi 5 candy!!
Just curious if anyone else has had or does have a colicky bub? How are you handling it? Found anything that works?
Going ok atm when it hits about 2am I'm pretty ready to tear my hair out though :-/
No advice on the colic sorry kimmi. Glad you're here tho.
Any updates on starry?
Aleks has decided that his cluster times are 3am - 7am and 5pm - 7pm.... Not so impressed with the 3am session! But he did get to meet Dana Linn Bailey at fitx this weekend! Mummy was rather happy to meet her idol too. I'm heading back into the gym tomorrow, 2 weeks and 5 days post birth. I'm bloody excited!
I wish I could go to the gym - ours doesn't have child care :(
We have our 6 week post natal appt today. Can't believe he's 6 weeks old already!
Nor does mine Faye. They sponsor me, so I get a couple of little perks. (pram parked in corner of gym) :)
Kimmi, my first two had colic and reflux. it can get pretty tough, so don't forget to look after yourself whenever you can. if she sleeps during the day, lie down at the same time. a baby carrier is well worth the money. get one that you and your partner are comfortable in.
'colic' can be reflux or silent reflux and meds can be helpful. i didn't do meds with my first, but did with my 2nd. there are pros and cons in using or not using them.
i gave a dummy from 6 weeks to dd, i think a bit earlier with ds. it helped give them something to suck to relieve symptoms without giving extra milk. both kids dumped the dummy when their symptoms began to go, dd was 4 or 5 months and ds 6 or 7 months.
Hi everyone, im around and ok :) just need to get on my laptop, I really dislike doing this on my phone. .
great to hear Starry. looking forward to hearing how you and your little boy are doing.
Thanks hotl! It's good to know its a common thing n isn't something we are doing wrong that's caused it! Using infant friend atm and she had a really settled night! Was very surprised and excited! Although I kept waking up to check on her haha
I'm going to give it till my 6 week check up with my dr n get a second opinion.
oh yeah, loved infant s friend too!
later i worked out that if i ate dairy the kids were more unsettled. dd grew out of it earlier and was ok to have dairy herself by 9 months. ds still reacts if he has too much dairy in his diet, but he can have some now.
i am hoping that this little one doesn't have too many issues. she is still not a vigorous feeder, she comes off a bit. i think flow is too much for her.
actually, (i keep remembering all things we tried with the other two!) giving them breaks while feeding helped, and also having their bottom/tummy lower than their head while feeding.
Loving your tips! Thanks!
Curiosity did you find they fed more when they were in pain? I think it's more the distraction or the motion of suckling that comforts Elsie more than the feeding. But at night she seems to be constantly feeding... Could this be making the colic worse?
Kimmi my bub gets wind pain a lot, and was comfort feeding and sucking A LOT, especially at night. I gave in and introduced a dummy. Best decision I ever made. Lol. It settles him instantly and means he's not on the boob so much at night. He's still putting on half a kilo a week with way less feeds, so I'm confident he just wanted boob for comfort. Oh, and now I don't have to feed him just to get him to sleep- I just give him the dummy. I never wanted to use one, but it's working for us.
kimmi - i went looking thru my old posts cos i was wondering when ds' issues kicked in and found this thread. there are some anecdotes and tips you might find useful
https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...reflux-177657/
I had to introduce a dummy too Rose, didn't want to either but I also didn't want to be used as one - it's such a help!
How did you guys get them to take the dummy? DS2 refuses dummy and bottles. So expressing for a break doesn't work.
Thanks heaps ladies!!!
What sort of shaped dummy did u find works best for a young bub? I have tommee tippee ones but she refuses to take them. She will take a bottle with a longer thinner teat then what the dummy is... I think she is also feeding out of comfort than any real necessity! Thanks again for the help!!
I put a small amount of glycerine on the dummy, worked a treat!
I can't remember what type mine is as I don't have the packaging anymore but it's just a cheap type newborn dummy.
comfort is a necessity ;) but sometimes a dummy can help provide the sucking without extra milk, which can lead to discomfort if they are having gut issues.
tapping lightly and rhythmically on the top of the dummy can encourage bub to take it.
Thanks ladies! I found one today that she actually takes! Avent newborn is flatter than the other :-) yay she gone 3 hours between feeds all day!!
Candy I didn't have to do anything, just put it in his mouth and he started sucking. Lol. I do have to hold it there most of the time, he can't keep it in himself all the time yet.
Kimmi I have the closer to nature ones (orthodontic sp?) but I heard the round cherry ones are better.
So quiet in here these days! How are you & bubs candy & starry???
Candy, is your little one s belly button healed? we had similar issues at similartime, but it has dried out now.
think we are beginning a wonder week, but it s all pretty mild after what her older siblings put me through. its kinda cute really.
breastfeeding still going ok here. dd s weight gains are slow and steady, similar to her siblings, although she feeds much less vigorously than they did. her height has come down from 98th percentile to the 90th, and weight from the 98th to the 75th.
Hey guys. Faye - what's news?
Hoti - yup, all healed up. Wonder week?
DS2 is feeding like a demon. I've made it to almost 5 weeks! I'm very proud of myself. I havent had him weighed since week 2, so should get that done. But he's def getting heavier / longer. Smiles started on Friday (4 weeks) and they are Damn cheeky! Still not really sold on dummies. It's a negotiation to get him to use one. I've been back in the gym since week 2 as well. Love it!
How's everyone else? Starry, rose, baby....
