Babies born ~ January 1st-15th 2011 #1

Hi girls, just a quick one :)

Things are still going really well here. Josh's only problem is he has a bit of wind, usually hitting in the early afternoon. I've found that putting him on his tummy for a while helps, although he doesn't seem to last long on his tum as he rolls over onto his back. If I can get him to stay there though, I can usually then sit him up and the wind gets itself out. Apart from that we're into a bit of a loose routine; he is mostly wakeful in the morning and then has a good, long sleep in the afternoon. He's still sleeping really well through the night, only up once for a feed which is a lovely change from the other two.

That's about it. DH is back to work on Sunday night :( Not looking forward to next week at all, especially since it's leading up to Valentine's Day, when DH is busy at work.

em - hope you find that cricket quickly! If it was me, I'd be spraying my room like a crazy person (since DS doesn't sleep in there)

crumpet - I'm the same with the strict routines - I've looked at SOS and Gina Ford's and I'm taking some of the main points and doing my own thing a bit - mainly keeping to a strict 7am first feed (regardless of when he last fed) and a 6:30pm last feed (with a bath in the middle of the feed) - in bed by 7:30pm. Expressing throughout the day to make a bottle for his first night feed - usually around 11:30pm, so that's a quicker one, then he usually wakes around 3:30am for another, then lasts until 6:30am or so - I just cuddle him if he's up before 7am and he's fine with that. Day sleeps are still a bit hit and miss - trying to get a longer arvo nap, but it doesn't always happen -a work in progress! TBH, I'm just satisfied that nights are going well, so getting day sleeps sorted will be icing on the cake.

Appts went well - got the all clear from ob to continue life as normal - so into the pool sometime soon I think! Paed appt went well - DS is 5.3kg now. Paed thought he might have some acid reflux, but I'm not sure I agree - he does bring up a bit of milk and chokes on it sometimes, and gets hiccups over an hour after a feed, but he never seems upset by that and he always sleeps happily on his back, so I don't think any reflux is bothering him, he really only gets cranky when passing gas - especially when he's overtired already. Sometimes it wakes him up from day naps and sometimes that's what wakes him in the morning around 6:30ish. I'm guessing he'll grow out of it in a month or so - will keep using Infant's Friend in the meantime since that seems to help settle him down when he's having an attack. The paed suggested I use some Mylanta to see if that helps when he's cranky and it's not a feed time yet - I guess if that has no effect I can rule out the reflux. I also asked him about DS's gunky eye - still going since he was born - I've been cleaning it with cooled boiled water with salt in it (DS hates it) a few times a day - apparently it's a blocked tear duct and should resolve itself in time - I should keep cleaning it as I am, but also press gently with a clean finger in the inner corner of his eye while he's relaxed (e.g. while feeding). We'll see how it goes, but I hope it clears up soon. At least it doesn't bother DS.

Ok, off to have a shower and settle myself for sleep :) Trying to get a couple of hours in before the 11:30ish feed!

Jen, DS2 had a blocked tear duct for two months after birth. Have you tried squirting a bit of breast milk in there? They eye massage and breast milk was what worked for us in the end.

Hi all!

Well I am very proud to say after a visit from the MCHN, she told me DS2 is perfect and gorgeous (not that I didn't already know those things!) and he has gained a massive 400g in 12days! He was born weighing 3.8kg, then after having lost weight and being 3.4kg at day 3, he gained all of that back and at discharge he was back to 3.8kg. Today he was 4.2kg! Plus he has grown 2cm in length :o woah baby!! As much as I want a big chubby healthy babe, I want him to slow down and be little for as long as possible too. He's growing too fast already and he's just 2 1/2wks old! My booby juice must be goooood stuff! LOL, and here I was worried because he only feeds 4hourly, sometimes up to 5hrly, which is when I wake him! I have NEVER purposefully woken a sleeping baby! So nice to have a bub who sleeps like baby's are 'supposed' to! Gosh I hope he doesn't change, I think DH and I deserve an 'easy' baby this time! And no wonder I have been sooo ravenous all the time too, he's sucking all the goodness out of me, lol! I'm so proud.
Sorry if I sound like I'm babbling and gushing. I'm not meaning to, but I really was worried the nurse would tell me that he's lost weight and would need formula. But she was really lovely and told me how lovely he was, told DH and I we were doing a wonderful job, that what we were doing was great if that's what suited us and we were happy with the wey thing were, then we were doing perfectly well. The other nurses I have had with DD and DS1 were always dodgy in one way or another!
Ok gotta go and put my big kids to bed. I am trying to write out my birth story, so look out for it some time soon, lol! I am half way through writing it. Will post here when I post it! (If anyone is interested that is!)
I hope you're all well, and that noone is caught in the cyclone. If you are, I am praying with all my might that noone gets injured. We have family and friends up ther and it is so so scary. :pray:

I am been very noughty at them moment PK is sleeping on his tummy shhhhhhh, he fell asleep while having tummy time and with this heat the last few days he hasnt been sleeping, as he will fall asleep on me then as soon as I try to put him down he would wake up... he must be a tummy sleeper like the rest of us... He looks so super cute....

yeah im going with what she liked to do before hand and its working fine again!
i make sure she is up between 730 and 8, no later, and then i make sure i put her down for a sleep in the morning now rather than just letting her go till lunchtime, which she was happy to do but by the arvo she would be over tired, still would sleep but would be cranky around 5, till she went to sleep at around 8.
so now i feed her at lunchtime, 12-1230, then keep her up till about 130-2 then in bed, bottle around 5, and a bath and in bed by 7... dream feed at 10 and then i get up around 3am.
and it works, and to be honest i dont care about getting up once a night now, i realised she will do it in her own time and im not going to force her to sleep through....

summah does the same as Mr D..... she chucks a bit every feed, actually i got showered in spew twice this morning :shakehead: but she never seems in pain and she gets the hicups a lot too, apparently thats a sign they are full?

AFU: i got Summah's pro pics in the mail today! :dance: OMG they are so cute! i love them! ill put them up on FB tonight after Dh gets to see them!

after stopping the SOS thing we had a good night, felt so much more relaxed and less stressed about her routine so i rekon i made the right decision for us...

we go for her 8week jabs next thursday, poor cherub! oh well she has had enough needles in SCN so she should survive it ok!

Disgirl - thanks for the tip - will try the milk at next feed. How long did it take to clear up once you started doing that?

David is a champ - went down beautifully at 7:30 last night, woke at 12:30 for a feed (EBM, so a quick feed), then stayed asleep until 5am, another feed, then asleep until 7 when I got him up :) Mummy is very happy - 8 hours sleep for me last night! Now, just need a few repeats of that!

Sucks about your DH going back to work, but you'll be fine!

AFU, MJ like's to be awake from 6-7pm til midnight-2am everynight, rather exhausting but she just won't settle til then, Last night I just gave in and fed her every hour. It eventually worked lol by 2am then she slept til 5am had a feed then woke for a feed at 8am. She should probably weigh a heap more with the way i'm feeding her. Although i've found that my boobs aren't as full as they used to to be, does this mean i'm running low or don't they get full like they use to anymore?

Hey everyone!

Em: My boobs feel a lot softer now, I don't think it has anything to do with supply though. They never really run out and a determined baby will keep going for ages! I feed SB every hour from 2-6 pm while he cat naps. Way easier than trying to put him down to sleep, we get happy cuddle time in between feeds and cat naps and I catch up on dodgy TV and we're both happy.

Disgirl: Boo to DH going back to work! My Dh started again on Tuesday, he's got 5 days paternity leave (oh how generous) that he'll try and take over 5 weeks, so I've only got 4 days to get through on my own during this early intense stage. I love the one feed nights :) Only had a couple but it's bliss when they happen!

Jen: Hope DS's eye clears up! Let us know how the breastmilk goes!

AFM: SB just did a number 3. But he still has his poo face on so I'm gonna give him a minute or two before I change him (had a major nappy saga a few days ago when he went through 4 nappy changes in 5 minutes). Ohh thanks everyone, Im not doing too bad. I actually havent cried for about 4days so thats something. Have come close though. lol. Trying to keep myself busy so that helps. Well busy than usual anyway. Here I am the mum of 6, and you are all trying to make me feel better. Definately by no means am I a supermum, just do what i have too. (thanks for thinking I am)
Karitane is coming around again today to bring a breast pump (I have one, and its madela swing) yet she wants me to try theirs and see if it helps expressing more milk out, so we will see if that works. She is also bringing a nipple shield around in the hopes that it helps with BFing Chloe. She saw for herself how Chloe reacts to the BB's, with just a horrible cry.

I also recieved my baby ergo sport yesterday a nice black and white one, I thought it would be more difficult to use but quite simple even with the infant insert. Funny thing though is V wants to be in it, lol. She didnt want me to take her out of it. Funny little thing. Also ended up buying the first years wedge with positioner yesterday and Chloe seemed to like it, but her sleep again after she has her first 4hrs sleep for the night goes haywire again. Hoping its a growth spurt happening there.

I dont have much time on here right now to post to everyone, so I am sorry (seem to be full of sorries dont I) I really am trying to get everything sorted here first, so I can hopefully get a better chance at responding to everyone. Slowly working through everything. With anyluck will feel sane soon.

Hope all you mummies that are having a hard time are ok. Im thinking of you. hugs

for someone who never shuts up i really havnt got a whole lot to tell you! :rofl:

we went back to our old routine with S last night, and it did wonders, she didnt wake up till 4am!! :birthday2: clearly the other routine is not suited for us at this stage!

DH looked at her pro pics last night and we both love them! ive put some of them on FB so u can all have a gawk and see how beautiful my baby is!! :lol: biased much!

other than that im just totally loving being a mummy!
she is justamazing me everyday with new things she does, and the grins are such a great reward for all of the hard work we put in!
i still cant believe how lucky we are to have such a placid and happy baby! ill be making sure i put my order in for the same next time around as well!!

speaking of next time....
DH is definitly coming around to the idea, not that he would ever admit to it, but last night he was telling me about a client at his works daughter who called her new baby girl Clover and then he said, if we have a boy next what would u want to call him, and we got into a discussion about names from there so im making progress without even nagging!!

Jen breast milk works wonders on most things lol, PK has had a blocked duct aswell ( all my kids have gotten them ) BM will clear it up within a few days, but it can come and go so just put milk in when ever you seen is gooie again, they say to use cotton wool balls with BM and wipe the eye from inside to the outside of the eye to clean it, but use one cotton ball per wipe iykwim

Kit PK had 2 of those already one the winkies where home and they thought it was the funnest thing they ever saw, the other was at PG on wednesday, when one of the girls was holding him :redface:

AFM, PK is doing wonderfully, he is still waking for feed in the night more than he does in the day, but my milk flo is so fast that it only takes him 10 mins to skull/choke his feed then he is back asleep to not so bad really... poor little man is always getting bones in his milk, and then my milk sprays everywhere lol quite funny really, he is also a spewy hicc up baby, just like DS1, so weird I could feed the girls but have a over supply for my boys, must be somehthing to do with the male hormons in my body...

School went back today... hope they are having a good day... will be looking into kindy/daycare for DD2 next week she really needs to go somewhere before she starts school next year...

S had a blocked tear duct as well, we just wiped her eye with warm water and massaged the corner of her eye at each feed and it cleared up quickly....

Don't look at my DS1 and DS2 as an example then! You'll be thinking 'only child' for sure :lol: But then DS3 = perfect. Maybe you should go for #3! :lol:

ND, DS3 is having a wee bit of trouble sculling down my milk too, especially early in the feed. I say the same thing "bones in my milk" :lol: Love the little noises they make while feeding though. Hope the kids had a good day at school.

csab, with your tribe, I'm surprised you even have time to turn the computer on, never mind about doing personals! I had my bff over today, she doesn't have any kids yet and she was telling me how exhausted she was just watching DS1 and DS2 while holding Josh! She said it's made up her mind that two will be plenty for her - imagine her at your house :lol:
How'd you go with the Karitane lady today?

Kit, ahhh, SB sounds a bit like Josh, although we've avoided #3's so far. We went through four nappies in 10 minutes the other day. My mum was here and she thought it was hilarious! We're about to start our third box of newborn nappies - that means we've been through 216 so far! The kid isn't even four weeks' old yet!!!!
Was it you that posted on FB that you love the HAB? Does that mean SB has taken a liking to it? I'm looking forward to the cooler weather this week so I can start wearing Josh more.

Em, my boobs are much smaller and softer than they were a week or two ago. From memory they settle down even more around the six week mark. There is still plenty of milk, your boobies are just much more efficient at making it now that they know what they are doing.

Us: Josh is still delightful. I'm loving having DH home so I can have lots of snuggles with him (Josh not DH!!! - Poor DH!). DH has been looking after the older boys a lot, leaving me to concentrate on Josh which has been lovely. It's also helped him bond a lot more with DS2 who has always been a mummy's boy.
Josh has chunked up a bit though, some of his 0000 clothes are getting a bit tight, especially length ways. He seems to have a really long body. I don't want to put him in 000's though, that's admitting that he's growing up! He's also keen to grow up too, holding his head up for minutes at a time when he's on his belly, pushing with his feet and even rolling over. Where has my itty bitty baby gone? :(

can your milk just dry up?? im positive K isnt getting enough milk, i cant even get any now when i express but my boobs still have milk when i squeeze them, im going to cry just when i thought i was doing really well now im not so positive about this :(

Miz Mind did with my girls I had such a struggle to BF my girls, sounds like your doing what happened to me, I found my girls would really pull their heads back when feeding... If you think you are running out go to your health nurse or GP as there is meds they can give you to help your milk supply

My Dr wont :( when i seen him about K constantly crying all he said was go to formula feeding :cry:

I might have to try and see the female Dr, cause i really still want to BF its soo much more better!

i just rang him and he wont do it *screams* this Dr is really pathetic im over him not helping with anything

Thanks for all the tips girls - DS's eye has improved already just from gentle massage - will try the milk next time it gets gunky though and see if we can get rid of it for good :)

Disgirl - I have a whole box of newborn nappies that DS has outgrown - would pass them on if you were closer! Might give them to SIL instead - she's due in a few months.

Mitz - is there a child health nurse in your town? She would probably be more helpful. Otherwise, check online for ideas - there must be advice out there. I'm sure I've read something about ways to boost milk supply. Hugs to you :hug:

Boiling here today - went out late morning to buy supplies for DH's birthday bbq (on Sunday) - just need to make some hamburger patties and marinate the chicken and make the cake (sponges already baked and frozen, just need to put it together). DS had 2 short naps this morning and I'm hoping he'll have a nice long sleep now - he's been asleep for nearly an hour already - I would prefer him to get used to sleeping the longest sleep in the arvo cause he gets so cranky in the late arvo when he's sleep-deprived, even if he had a long sleep in the morning. have been encouraging a short nap in the late arvo to help with this by taking him out in the pram, but it's so darn hot atm, even after 5pm, that I really work up a sweat out there (probably good for me too!).

DH said he might go to the pool with us tomorrow -yay! I want him to come to Big W first to look at some safety gates for our new house - got money from 2 of my aunties to spend :) Was going to invest in a playpen or portacot, but SIL said we could borrow hers. So, for the mummies out there who have safety gate things, any advice before we buy? I've seen the normal bar types and a kind of meshy one that supposedly retracts. We don't want anything that permanently attaches to the wall - I'm guessing most of them would have those screwy out things that hold it in place?
