Kit, can you put him in the pram and go for a walk? Or what about a car ride, always works for my kids even now! Or what used to work for us with DD was bouncing with her on the fit ball. He definately sounds over tired to me though.

    ARGHH!!! HELP NEEDED!

Ok, SB has been awake from 10 am, so 5 1/2 hours so far, with just bits of sleep in between. He settles fine, but as soon as we put him down he wakes up He's always been pretty awake, that whole newborn sleeping 16-18 hours a day thing hasn't ever happened. Generally he goes to sleep after 2-3 hours of awake time, he's happy when he's awake - alert and interactive. But it's taking longer and longer to get him to go to sleep He doesn't cry heaps, just a little, then he goes back to wide eyed and looking around for a while, then crying for a few minutes, then wide-eyed. And so on.

How can I get my little boy to sleep? We've tried HAB, swaddling, rocking, swaying, music, bathing, skin on skin, feeding and letting him cry for a couple of minutes (which sucked). What else?
oh hun its bl00dy hard when they wont go to sleep hey.....

one thing we have found that works that we got shown in the hospital is to put bub in a pram or bassinet, anything with wheels and push him over the hump in the carpet where it goes to floor boards or tiles or the gap in the foot path or the decking boards, and it works a treat, takes about 15 mins for summah to drift off if i do that.

hope u can get him settled for a decent rest

Kit- what your describing is K all over, it just takes alot of time and patience to get them asleep cause as Lilias said they are fighting sleep so very overtired and K also has wind

Well today has been really peacefull K decided to sleep alot till tonight he cluster fed then had some tummy time then more food then went to sleep, we shall see how long he sleeps for now
DF and i took the boys swimming this afternoon, Z obviously loved it and K surprisingly did too even though he hates a bath it was a good afternoon out

Disgirl - glad you're over your tummy bug - good girl for guzzling lots of water to re-hydrate Hope your little family all stays well.

Mitz - yay on weight gain for K - well done!

Kit - my DS gets wide-eyed when he's overtired too - head bobs around and really hard to settle. I get days of that when he has a lots of wind and doesn't get much sleep. All the ideas suggested sound worth a try - speaking of which, D's up again - bbl

Kit, how'd you go? Poor little guy sounds overtired and it's SO hard to get them off to sleep when they are like that. Hope you're doing okay.
BTW, my DS1 and DS2 NEVER slept as much as they said newborns should sleep. The most they EVER slept during the day was 45 mins at a time. I know that's a full sleep cycle for a baby and most of them either stay asleep or doze back off, but not my two eldest!

Tegam, you're far too keen and energised for my liking! I'm not doing anything until at least six weeks. When we went to the park a while back, and when I tried jumping on the tramp, I felt like my uterus was going to fall out of my vagina! I'll give it a while yet methinks! Besides, I can't give up my pack a day habit. Pack of lollies a day that is!

Crumpet, have you tried wearing Miss S when she's bored? Josh luuuurves looking around, so if he's in the HAB, he's happy for me to go about my business with him keeping a watch on me. After an hour or so he usually goes off to sleep too so it's a double bonus!

Miz, that swim sounds nice. I'd love to have a swim, but still have a few weeks left. I think Josh will love it too, he loves his baths so can't see him hating the pool.

Jen, you didn't update us on your little man!!! Have you got the heat over there?

Us: Well DS1 was back at school today DS2 cried when he left - very sweet. DH and I took the two little boys up so DS2 could get his haircut and so I could shop for all the groceries I forgot yesterday It was a nice little outing - so much easier when there are only two kids and two adults! It's ridiculously hot here so I'm going to ask DH to put the kids' paddling pool up and the gazebo up over the top of it. It's going to be over 32 every day here for the next week too - too bloody hot! Thank God for aircon, but I wish we had somebody else to pay our electricity bill next time, it's going to be a shocker.

i didnt think we could take them to the pool yet coz they havnt had their jabs yet?
id love to take S to the pool but have been holding off!

OMG thats hilarious re ur uterus falling out! mine fells like that somedays and ive only walked down the front steps- all 3 of them!

nah i havnt coz i HATE the baby bjorn!

BUT today i started the Tizzie Hall "save our sleep" routine and things have been so different!
the times are pretty close to what we were doing, but i never made her sleep in the morning i just left her to do what she liked and then eventually she got bored and cranky.
but so far today things have gone amazingly!
we got up at 7am and she had a bottle and play, wrapped her and back to bed at 830 and to my she went to sleep! i was sure she wouldnt coz well she hasnt slept in the mornings.... then i woke her at 11, bottle and play, wrapped and in bed at 1230 and by 1240 she was out cold!

so i think i needed to make things more structured for her, mind u im not counting my chickens just yet its only half way through day one!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I still feel so far behind here with all the 4-6 week old bubba's! At least I get some good advice

I took SB into the bedroom and made it dark and quiet for a feed and then had a nap with him. I'm thinking I won't be able to keep him with me all day as he seems to prefer going to sleep in the same place, and now that we're co-sleeping that's the big bed! So today he's had all his naps in the big bed and he's been fine, well, 1/2 hour of ''shhhh'' and head rubs to get him to sleep but after that he's down for 2-4 hours. Hopefully in a couple of weeks he'll be able to sleep in the HAB so I can keep him close. Either that or I'll be spending a lot of time in the bedroom!

    Gotta go, he's waking up

Look at me I am all sexy now ( if only I could look like this IRL )

My baby is 6 weeks so sad time is rushing by way way way too fast... Over the last few HOT days PK hasnt been a happy lad, he just wants to be BF and cuddles but its so warm and he is a sweat machine lol, luck I like the smell of baby sweat

Tegam I too am going to be starting my exercise to get my body baby, I am also most back at pre- baby but I was a little heaver than I like to be before I started, but I need to start to tone up... gotta get rid of my tuck-shop arms...

Kit I am glad you have found something thats starting to work for you, PK and I co-sleep too, but in the day he either has to have his nap in my arms or if I am lucky in his swing but normally if he is asleep on me he will wake up if I put him down, but I am happy to have time out with him, plus after 4 babies I am used to doing things one handed, plus it help I have a 10yr old who can make the other breackfast and lunch, God help me when the are back at school...

crumpet you sound like you have been very blessed with S... what a good little sleeper she is becoming...

Disgirl, jelous school doesnt go back here until friday what a silly day to make them go back... It is so much easier with two isnt... always makes me feel a little guilty when I think this lol, mother guilt gets us all the time...

OMG if any of you are reader you have to read porche de Rossi, new book, such a insight into eatting disorders... I have had many of these same thoughts just never went to that exstream, but I think its a good book to read for those of us with little girls, how our comments as mother can really shape their little minds in ways we never intended, my DD1 is already showing signs of becoming weight obsessed ( she is already way too skinny for a 7 year old) so I will have to watch even more carefully what my sisters and I talk about...

    ok, back to finish . . .

horribly hot here the last few days - today is a nice "cool" change - high 20's today I think, still humid and a sprinkle of rain. My air-con is not that effective in the humidity and Saturday really was a nasty day - 40 and humid and DS had attacks of wind all day long - woke him from every sleep so he got progressively more cranky and overtired as the day went. We were both sweating up a storm during feeds, even sitting under the fan. I was dreading having a cranky night too, but to my surprise we had a great night - he even slept in until 7:30 on Sunday morning and I ended up waking him for his first feed. He was great yesterday - we were out at church in the morning (big poo explosion in his pram during the service), then lunch at in-laws, then home for a quick feed then off to the beach for a bbq farewell thing for some friends who are moving up north (storm came in over the sea - we left when it started raining at 7pm!). Great night again and today he's good too. I think his bowels are sorting themselves out a bit - up until the weekend he had a bit of poo in every single nappy (some more than others) but now I get lots of wet ones in a row then a couple of big pooey ones - lunchtime and late arvo usually. Hopefully that means the wind will settle down too.
Have paed appt on Wed and ob appt straight after - mum's coming to give me a hand - both appts in the arvo so hopefully he'll sleep in the pram a bit. Looking forward to a SWIM after that! Can't wait to get him weighed again next week - he hasn't been done for a few weeks and he looks so much bigger now

    hi girls,
it's so good reading through your posts and reading that a lot of your babies are doing the same as Katherine!! She fights sleep something terrible and then gets overtired and cranky- which translates into screaming! That "save our sleep" sounds good Crumpet- I might have to try it.
She has been sleeping in a hushamok and she's supposed to stay in there until 4 months but we're already thinking of putting her in a cot, she seems to get hot in the hushamok. I put her down in the middle of our guest bed (double) today to see if she would sleep better unconstrained (I figured it ould be a good test to decide if we should put her in the cot) so far she's been sleeping in there for about 2 hours! She likes to stretch out as well and in the hushamok she keeps hitting the sides with her arms or legs. My baby seems to little for a cot though!!!

I'm hoping it might help her night time sleep as well. She seems to be regressing a bit. We had a good week/fortnight of having her have her last feed about 9, go down to sleep, wake about 2 and then go back down until 5 or 6. Now, we seem to be still getting the block at the beginning of the night but she's really hard to settle at the 1/2am feed and then wakes every hour/90 mins after that. Not sure what's going on there- ideas?

Sorry I haven't done any persies but I have been reading when I can and it's reassuring to know that we're not the only house where sleep/feeding worries are happening. She's been quite clingy lately as well and usually needs to be on me during the day to sleep but Sunday, yesterday AND today she's had big long sleeps on her own so I am counting those as definite victories!!!

Oh- and I can hardly believe it but my little girl is 7 weeks today!!

Hi all, I know I have been MIA, yet it has been hard with everything going on and kids home. Finally they are back to school but still things are abit up in the air, so hopefully will settle soon.

Chloe had her hearing tested at the childrens hospital a couple of weeks ago, her right ear was hard to get much activity but they dont think after further testing there will be any problem. Her left ear has fluid. She needs to go back in 3mths to have her hearing tested again and then again when she is 10mths along with Little V as they want to check her out as well.

    Chloe and little V had their pead appt on Monday, here is the stats;

Chloe: Weighing in at 2.92kgs, Lgth: 47cm, HC: 35cm (6wks)

so he was pretty happy with her progress. She is very refluxy which she is often unsettle, and after trying mylanta and zantac he now wants me to try omephrafole, sorry for the sp? as they others werent giving her much relief. He also thinks she may have some colic too, which I think that as well. Still havent got her on the BB's, yet havent had a great deal of time either to express BM, so I am hoping now that the kids are all back at school I can get my milk supply back up. Poor little mite gets consti[ated on occassion with the formula. brings me back to Little V who couldnt cope with the forumla either and ended up having her on Novalac constipation formula to help her.

Also need to get down and see my GP for the 6wk checkup for bub and I, mostly me though as Chloe has alreay been checked out with the pead, and will be back there again in a mths time.

Chloe is by far my worst sleeper, yet cant blame her I didnt get the chance to get her into a routine from day 1, my way. So its going to take some time and patience to get her into a more settled routine. Especially once we combat the reflux. She isnt a big cryer, she only cries when she wants a feed and once thats there she doesnt, but it is a constant day of feeding, and night time isnt much better. Luckily to get a straight 4hours from her at night, then it is all over the place. She normally gets one good sleep through the day for a few hours as well. Due to the reflux as well, she prefers to be upright, then laying flat, so will be looking at getting a wedge made for the bassinette from clark rubber, or another alternative from where my sister works that can be used as a wedge as well. There is a couple for me to look at at my sistes work for me to choose.
Anyone elses bub vomit through their nose with the reflux? Poor little thing.

We havent had anymore tests done on little Chloe yet, so hopefully the pead will be happy enough not to worry about them, yet I really think he stills wants to redo the brain scan. Not sure if he will still do the heart u/s, yet knowing him he will want to check everything.

Little V, well after getting her to 8.1kgs 3mths ago, about 4wks ago we weighed her on Little Chloes first checkup with the pead just to see how she was going and she was 8.6kg, well over the past few weeks she has had the runs, so after my decision of taking V off the soy milk ended up being abit of a mistake (shouldnt be reading to about the soy milk so much) Definately seems as though little V is lactose intolerant. Before her appt I put her back onto soy milk and she is now not so runny. The pead doesnt want me to take her off the soy milk now. Anyway Little V now weighs 8.3kg and thats in her clothes. So that is pretty depressing. So she too is back to the pead in a mth, so hopefully she will be a heap heavier then. He wants to have her upto at least 10kgs before winter, what a task that is going to be. The reason for winter, is due to her having so much trouble with keeping well over winter.

AFM, well still having days where I am depressed. I just find it hard to smile especially on those down days. Sometimes it gets to an extent where I am sure it is placing a strain on my marriage. Yet the past couple of days have been somewhat better in that department. I think once I can get a grip on things I will be feeling much better. I really wanted to BF yet that hasnt worked out still. I have Karitane coming out tomorrow, she is really lovely, so hopefulyl she wont be disappointed in me with not expressing the past couple of days. Honestly feel like they are wasting their time with me. Definately a lost cause.

Ohh and those of you with reflux babies, if you have got a wedge yet, look at getting one. I will let you know which one I decide to get. The ones that Clark rubber make are made for cots, and they make one for bassinettes, as well.

Hope your all well, and I will chat soon. I just really need to pull myself together. hugs all. Give those precious bubs a huge cuddle and kiss from me and my girls. hugs

Disgirl - If you want to meet up soon, I would love to meet you and your new addition. If you want send me a PM with your pho. number. Isnt it wonderful that school is finally back. hugs

Ohh and tegam, look over here "mum of 6" lol. not 4!!!!!!!! If you want to see what insane is just look my way. Here i thought that I would be happy with 2 when I was younger, then it just went on from there. Hope all is going well. hugs

Good to hear from you csab - sounds very busy over your way! Keep up the good work - you're being a great mum

We're off to paed and ob for appts this arvo - mum's coming so she can look after DS when necessary - not the best time for an appt - the paed appt is right on feed time but at least we'll be travelling through sleep time, so he can nap in the car. Decided to put DS for all his day sleeps in my room now - it's the only room that is dark during the day. At our new house we'll have blockout blinds and curtains in his room so it will be easier there.

Csab: you are not a lost cause hun being a mum is tough, you are doing a great job. I have been struggling a bit emotionally, some things I don't wan to discuss on an open forum though- but i've got people around me who are looking out for me. Make sure you get help if you need hun!

Jen: Malaila just sleeps on her mat on the floor in the loungeroom during the day the light doesn't seem to bother her, either does vacuuming around her.

AFM, well after a horrid night/day/night I was extremely emotional and one tired Mummy, Malaila did not want to sleep for longer then 15mins and most of the time it was 5-10mins rather exhausting, poor thing was one upset little bubba! Last night she was awake and screaming from 7pm to 1am! when I finally got her settled and she then slept til 5.30am so was good to finally have a bit of sleep. Although there was a cricket in the bedroom somewhere chirping rather loudly and that kept me awake but do you think I could find the damn thing!

Hi to everyone, going to lay down now, what's the bet she wakes up as soon as I do- I usually time that pretty good!

hopw ur appts go well hun!!

AFU: well we did 2 days of save our sleep and i gave it up this morning......

i dunno what i was thinking trying to tweak things when they were going so well, it just stressed me out making sure things were being done right on time and waking her up and things like that.
i just found it way to strict for us, i did learn a lot of things from it and picked up on a few issues so ive corrected them, and will just go with the flow and follow the routine she decides to do.

i feel a bit like a idiot for trying to force such a strict routine on her but oh well i guess the parenting gig is all trial and error.

    Hi all!

Well I am very proud to say after a visit from the MCHN, she told me DS2 is perfect and gorgeous (not that I didn't already know those things!) and he has gained a massive 400g in 12days! He was born weighing 3.8kg, then after having lost weight and being 3.4kg at day 3, he gained all of that back and at discharge he was back to 3.8kg. Today he was 4.2kg! Plus he has grown 2cm in length woah baby!! As much as I want a big chubby healthy babe, I want him to slow down and be little for as long as possible too. He's growing too fast already and he's just 2 1/2wks old! My booby juice must be goooood stuff! LOL, and here I was worried because he only feeds 4hourly, sometimes up to 5hrly, which is when I wake him! I have NEVER purposefully woken a sleeping baby! So nice to have a bub who sleeps like baby's are 'supposed' to! Gosh I hope he doesn't change, I think DH and I deserve an 'easy' baby this time! And no wonder I have been sooo ravenous all the time too, he's sucking all the goodness out of me, lol! I'm so proud.
Sorry if I sound like I'm babbling and gushing. I'm not meaning to, but I really was worried the nurse would tell me that he's lost weight and would need formula. But she was really lovely and told me how lovely he was, told DH and I we were doing a wonderful job, that what we were doing was great if that's what suited us and we were happy with the wey thing were, then we were doing perfectly well. The other nurses I have had with DD and DS1 were always dodgy in one way or another!
Ok gotta go and put my big kids to bed. I am trying to write out my birth story, so look out for it some time soon, lol! I am half way through writing it. Will post here when I post it! (If anyone is interested that is!)
I hope you're all well, and that noone is caught in the cyclone. If you are, I am praying with all my might that noone gets injured. We have family and friends up ther and it is so so scary.
