Cheeky - If they weren't concerned I'd go with it. I think I heard somewhere that you should be back at birthweight by two weeks, but DD1 took closer to 3. So long as he gains consistently I'd say all is ok.

On my phone while settling DS. Nicnac DS also has massive um hernia and we've been referred to surgeons at hospital but my friend who is a paed said they rarely operate and mostly let them sort it out by itself. Day settling is still a challenge with DD to look after, if DS didn't fight the swaddle he'd be asleep in no time but the swaddle works so well once he's asleep that I'm persevering for now.
Chody great news on your munchkin, enjoy the sleep while you can!
6 weeks tomorrow it's flying by except for the feeling of groundhog day with settling lol.
I have a chubba bubba he's put on 2 kgs in 6 weeks so now 6 kg. hope he slows down soon as he's so heavy to carry. My stretchy wrap isn't that supportive now.
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the adventure.
Hi girls,
Just a quick post as im about to head off to bed.
Quinn is going well and.....he slept all night last night!!! From 10.30pm until 5.30am, we couldnt believe it!!! It was lovely to catch up on some much needed sleep. Tomorrow hubby is going to have him for a few hours while I go and get my hair done and he also treated me to a beautiful Il Tutto nappy bag, I feel very loved. Tomorrow afternoon Quinn is having his first proper photo shoot, we cant wait! I got him weighed last Tuesday and he was 4.2kgs and 65cm long. He looks as though he has chubbed up a bit since then though! Hubby flys back to work on Thursday for a week and my mum leaves to go to Thailand tomorrow for 2 weeks so next week should be interesting!!! We had a home open for our house today and had 5 people through so fingers crossed we get an offer out of it.
Hope everyone elses bubs are going well, woo hoo on having your bubba home Chody, you must be so happy!
Night night girls xxx
Hi Girls
I had little Katie at 35weeks and 6 days and have been having a few issues with feeding, she needs her food thickened and has just got back to birth weight last week as a result. Chody she sleeps a lot too but in the last week or two she has started to have more awake time but as I said in the other post she has been unwell too. She is having her hips checked this week for dysplaysia and we are also seeing a speech pathologist then we follow up next week with our paediatrician, it has all been quite overwhelming these last few weeks and as I haven't been well either at times a real struggle. Our DS also started school which has added to the stress. I don't feel I have bonded with her as well as I did my son largely because of the time in hospital when we haven't been able to cuddle due to infection/drips/CPAP and I feel guilty about that as it was my body that couldn't let the pregnancy continue not hers. Does that make sense or is it all these hormones?
I look forward to getting to know you all.
Love Bee xx
PS how do I get a new ticker??
Bee - I relate to those feeling a lot. I'm starting to feel like I'm finally beginning to bond with DD2 now that she's home, but even then, I don't feel as connected (yet) as I did with DD1. It's so hard when you can only visit them in hospital and aren't necessarily allowed to touch or hold (or if you can, only for short periods). I wrote a post very similar to your in the prem/nicu section of thr forum. everyone said it was fairly normal, perhaps check it out? How long was she in hospital for? Hopefully all the doc appointments bring good results and you can just spend some time enjoying each other.
For a ticker click on someone's (think you need to be on your comp) and it'll take you to that site. Follow the steps from there (sorry, not great instructions - I'm half asleep feeding).
Amy - I can't believe how long your DS is! Good luck with things on your own, I'm sure you'll do fine. My plan at the moment is just taking each day as it comes - I'm trying not to worry how I'll manage in the future and just aiming to get through one day at a time.
Dusty - wow! 6kg! I can't imagine DD2 ever getting to that size lol. Good luck with the doc apps. Sleeping wise, are you using a sleeping bag? I used a wrap me up with DD2 and it was the best thing ever. She slept so well. I plan to used it with DD2 too, but she needs to be at least 3kg.... Luckily she's happy being wrapped at the moment....
Well it appears DD2 is trying to catch up in the weight stakes - and quickly. Today she's wanted to be BF about every 2 hours since 2am! It's 1pm now and I'm currently feeding for the 6th time today! I think part of it is due to the heat here (and we can't have the air con in too much as we've been told to keep her in a 26ish degree room until she's at least 2.8kg) but a lot is due to hunger! I hope this doesn't continue for days....
That's awesome Chody she will also be trying to get your supply increased as she plans to be bigger very soon!
Amy I'm in awe - a night sleep sounds so delicious :) although that said the swaddling is paying off and Felix is resettling well at night now.
Bee welcome! I'm sorry you're facing a hard time right now. I'm sure you're doing a fabulous job. My DD had hip displaysia and while it was a shock at the time it went quickly and she was never bothered by her harness as we found it early before she wanted to move.
Chody- we did 2 hourly feeds from about last Thursday, it was very hard, I think it was the heat too, finally back to normal today ( well I hope, better not speak too soon) but the heat is coming back this week boo!
Hi everyone else, we just had our 4 week checkup all good, she is 4.5kg, 39cm head and 56.5cm long, have to get my head around vaccines soon- eek!
Bee- i hope things settle for you soon and you can enjoy your little one x
The most sleep I get at night is a 3 hour stint, but I can cope with that if its that and a few 2 hour ones. Don't know if I'd be able to sleep all night now lol, still jealous tho!
Afternoon Ladies
Thanks for your support, Chody all up she has spent about 8 days in hospital, praying she gains at tomorrows check otherwise she will have to go back. Not sure how its going to go as she has been sleeping more and feeding less with this cold and usually vomiting after feeds with all the mucus. Seeing our GP today to get my scar checked so I will take her with me. She is also having tummy time the poor thing she tries to sleep but every 10 minutes or so she stiffens up and cries ...anyone else encountered this?
Bee
Bee do you mean on her tummy? I only give DS about 5-10 mins a day as he doesn't like any longer.
Saffy sounds like we're on the same night schedule as you. Does DD settle well between feeds?
Felix had his immunisations yesterday and was inconsolable for a couple of hours before bedtime. He slept most of the afternoon but was very unhappy. Panadol overnight seems to have gotten him through.
Chody and bee I hope your little ones are going ok.
Hope everyone else is going well also.
I have a baby who has his nights and days amiss at the moment. It seems he does not believe in sleep at night and when I can get him to sleep he is so so noisy. Lots of napping for me to keep up. It's going to be hot again here so expecting ds to want to feed extra as this is what happened last time. Otherwise all is good and totally in love with the night owl
hi girls,
keta- gotta hate those hot days and nights, poor bubbas. Do you have foxtel? i tape shows during the day and watch at night while bf, makes it seems easier.
dusty- she sleeps between feeds overnight (in a swaddle bag) but is terrible during the day, won't leave my arms, i'm prepared to put up with it ( like i have a choice lol) as i get good 2-3 hr sleep blocks at night.I better get some panadol in preperation for the jabs.
Bee- sounds like you have your hands full
hi everyone else!
Argh the heat is a drain hey Keta. Hope DS gets his times the right way soon.
Saffy I'm glad you're able to sleep between feeds at night. Have you got some sort of carrier for the daytime?
Yeah i have a hugabub, gets quite warm tho! Of course after bragging about sleeping 3 hours between feeds overnight, that all fell in a heap last night lol.
If my baby was 2 weeks postdates would my 5 week wonder week have happened at 3 weeks?? hope so, don't fancy another one next week :D
Uh oh! I always counted the WW according to age not EDD. 5 week WW went ok here, now waiting for 8 week one while we are on holiday :/
The HAB are warm I've just starting using it and a Close Carrier the last couple of weeks once the heat wave calmed down but DS is too heavy now at 6.2kg. Just bought a Manduca but DD wants in it every time I bring it out lol. HABs are lovely for squishies though. Perhaps a small mei tai would be cooler?
Saffy - I've read that the wonder weeks are calculated on due date rather than birth date - my DD is basically '0' again...
I just realised I was mistaken about the WW, you're right Chody. DD was 17 days late no wonder she was so advanced for her age :) but that said EDD are just a guide for us as everyone of both sides of DD family were almost 2 weeks overdue. We brew longer lol.
I think you'll know when a WW is happening.
I can't wait til DD2 makes it to 2.8kg and I no longer have to wake her every four hours at night. Once again I've had to wake to the alarm both times tonight and wake a sleeping baby - it doesn't feel right lol.
Hi all, sounds like everyone is travelling well at the moment. Seems we have similar babies Dusty and Saffy- we get okay night sleeps but day settling is a bit of a pain and I've found it way too hot to wear the HAB or sleepy wrap. I'm also finding it really difficult to work out when he is ready to go back to bed so I think I probably have an overtired baby on my hands quite often.
Saffy, what swaddle bag do use? I am really struggling with wrapping my big baby and when I put him down awake he fights it until his hands can get to his face.
Chody it must be hard to get your little one to feed well if you have to wake her for feeds? I totally agree that it feels wrong to wake a sleeping baby- hope she gets to the goal weight soon for you.
Keta, I always find when I have a rough night my plans for day sleeps seem to disappear with an unsettled bub or lively 2 yr old! When I do get one I'm pretty sure I slip into a near comatose state!! Good to hear you are getting lots naps.
Bee, how did Katie go with her weigh in?
DS has just got his first head cold too. Lots of booby time for him (my answer to everything!)
Hope everyone else is going well and enjoying these first weeks the best you can.
Nicnac - if your DS likes his hands near his face, have you ever looked into buying 'wrap me ups'? They're sleeping bags where the babies arms are kept near their face (but they can't hit themselves and wake themselves up). DD1 hated having her arms wrapped down too and these were my lifesaver. I'll be using them again with DD2 when she hits 3kg (min weight to use them) as she likes her hands near her face too. Look them up. Our local baby bunting stocks them, but you can also buy then off eBay.
We use the 'love to swaddle' cos she can put her arms up, she won't have them down either. Its really great and has helped a lot, need two though cos she always spews a bit and ends upwith the hand bits wet and spewy smelling, so I have to wash often. I only put her in it at night though, day times I try and swaddle with muslin but its hit and miss. At the moment we are having one good night then one bad night, so looking forward to tonight lol I might get a bit more sleep.
Our day regime is feed, change, feed,( 30mins total) play/awake, topup feed ( 5 mins) sleep hopefully for 30mins then start again- every 2 hours.
chody- thats annoying, at least you get a good gap between feeds!
Dusty-I agree, a WW will hit us when it wants and I can't change it anyway so not stressing over it, but hope you get a good holiday with a bit of breathing space :D
Better jump in the shower while DD is asleep- she has been awake since 4am so I hope she stays asleep til I get out of the shower at least!
Hi girls,
Just popping in to say hello. Have had a few days of hell here. Hubby went back to work (FIFO) on Thursday morning so im back feeling like a single parent again. Quinn would not sleep all day and then didnt go to bed until 12.45am! He only slept until 5am and then didnt sleep AT ALL yesterday, not even 5 minutes. He just cried and whinged all day and wanted to be held, the minute I put him down he screamed. I tried everything under the sun to settle him but nothing worked. He finally zonked out last night and slept until 3am and then woke again at 7.30am. I think its the heat, it was 29 degrees in our bedroom on Thursday night. Last night it was quite cool here so I was able to dress him a bit warmer and he slept better. He will not let me swaddle him arms in at all which is a pain. I have the love to snuggle swaddle bag as well but he hates his hands and feet being in something so he wont sleep if he is in it :(
I have been cleaning and cooking today, we have another looker coming through our house tomorrow. The real estate agent said he is pre approved and keen to buy so fingers crossed he makes an offer!
Aim x
Saffy and Amy - I feel your pain with the day sleeps - DD1 barely slept during the day until she was around 1! As a pay off she often slept well at night though.... Have you tried some sort of wrap that 'ties' your baby to you? That was the only way I could get stuff done. I also found she slept on me quite well when in it.
Amy - I can't believe you were able to get lots of cooking and cleaning done with a newborn around! Good work!
Well once again I've had to wake a sleeping baby.... The next feed is therefore 'due' at 5 if she doesn't wake earlier. My wonderful DH has said he will do it! I've taken some of my copious supply of EBM out the freezer and its sitting on the bench waiting for him :)
How is everyone going?
Amy I hope you sell your house soon!
Chody- nice of your DH!
We are having a lovely week here, great nights and good days too with a happy girl. She has just started smiling and yesterday I spent all day trying to get a smile out of her, to no avail, then when she heard DH walk in the door and speak, she pulled off the breast and started smiling and giggling like a maniac- wtf? am I chopped liver or something?? It was hilarious, DH loved it of course.
Amy I hope your getting some sleeps out of DD - that sounds full on. Have you tried putting her in a carrier in the daytime? DS is having at least one sleep a day in a sling, normally the arsenic hour 4-5 nap.
Saffy DD is very advanced smiling and giggling :)
Chody I can imagine waking a sleeping baby is hard.
Our daily rhythm goes something like
Wake 6-7ish, feed and back to bed within an hour for either 40min-1.5 hours. Wake feed play 1 hours back to bed then repeat 2-3 times before bath and bed. He is waking 2-4 hourly overnight and double swaddling really is helping, I found a technique on YouTube at 1am when I was desperate a couple of weeks ago. He still doesn't like swaddling much in the day but he seems to now realise it means sleep time. we've been having lots more cuddles going to sleep in my arms during the day as he is finding the world a little overwhelming :)
Saffy - I'm glad things are going so well!
Dusty - it seems like you have a great routine going there!
Well today is my first day with two kids, alone. DH is back to work today (he only started time off when she came home from hosp). I'm hoping it won't be too bad today as its DD1's childcare day - it's just matter of getting her there on time, but since little miss decided to wake 15 mins ago, just before 6, for a feed I figure I should be ok as I'll be able to shower before DH leaves (possibly before he even wakes!).
Today is DD2's weekly weigh in. I feel like she's putting on weight as some of her premmie outfits are getting tight, but I guess the scales will tell us! I'll pop in later with an update.
Oh, and as for a routine, since she is theoretically less than a week old, she pretty much feeds, falls asleep and wakes 3-4 hours later wanting more food. We generally get a couple of periods a day where she will be awake for maybe 1/2 an hour after her feed to play.
Yay! Another 300g up in the past week! We are now at 2.85kg - so no having to wake 4 hourly. Yay!!!
well done chody! Enjoy your sleep lol
Wow Chody great news!
Huh I jinxed things by outlining our routine. Little monkey wouldn't go to sleep for 4 hours after waking. Finally I had to go out and the car tipped him over for 2.5 hours nap :)
Oh no! Yep the car usually works, pity petrol is so expensive!
I think I jinxed things in a good way cos my little monkey slept for 2 hours straight before- thats a daytime world record for us.
Thanks guys! What's the bet she starts waking every 3-4 hours at night now rather than needing to be woken at 4 lol?
Saffy - Great news on the sleep!
Lol Saffy glad you were jinxed in a good way. May it be the start of lots of longer sleeps :)
We are about to embark on a 2 day car trip with 2 kids! Got the iPad loaded and snacks packed!
DS weighed in at a hefty 6.6kg and is now above the chart. He's a lump to cart around, wish he was more enamoured with my multiple carriers....
Hi girls. Hope everyone is going well.
Dusty I hope the car trip goes well. Do your kids like the car? I hope so or it's going to be a long two days!
Sleep deprivation has kicked in here. I'm exhausted and its going to be a long ten days coming up. Dh is bak to work and for li get than usual. So I'm on my own 24/7 for that time. My mum dad and sister are all off interstate also so there goes my usual support system when Dh is away. I'm a little nervous because of how tired I'm feeling. Last time Dh was away I had a couple of really teary days and that was with my mum and sister to take ds for a while so I could have a rest. Never mind I will just have to call in and nap on the couch of some friends lol. With that said ds has been much more settled the last few days so hopefully it's a sign of good things to come!

You are more than welcome to come to my place and nap Keta or I can come to yours, no worries at all :) There is nothing worse than feeling tired!!!
Dusty - I hope the car trip goes well!
Quinn is sleeping through the night!!! Well pretty much anyway! DH and I had our first night out on Saturday night for his sisters 21st. It was at a bar so we couldn't take Quinn with us so my sister in law came to babysit. She put him down at 8.30pm and he slept until 6am! Last night we put him down at 8.30pm and he slept til 4.30am. I think he knows when its bedtime now. We put him down and dont have any trouble. He goes down awake in his basinette awake, we turn off the light and asleep he goes.
That's fantastic Amy! I bet you're enjoying the sleep!
Keta - if its just the two of you at home maybe try not to worry about the house or anything whilst DH is away. Just 'laze' around and sleep whenever you can. Try not to do too much. Keep a take away menu close :)
hi all! sorry i've been mia. James is driving me insane. he doesn't sleep well and he's gassy and screaming alot. trying to figure it all out. I need to make an appt soon for his 2 month check up and jabs.
Dust - how big was your baby at birth? because he sounds quite the chubster! I need to weigh James, he's gotta be 6kgs or over by now. :)
Hi all,
hope you are going well and catching as much rest as you need.
4cheekyboys, I can relate. My bubs is very gassy too, and manages at least one good vomit after every feed. I've been using the HAB for day sleeps (after vainly trying to get him down in the cot). At night, I just try to switch off to the grunting and groaning coming from his cot. I usually do at least one pick up after putting him down after feeds at night to try to burp him again/pat his bottom. I'm going to ask our MHCN about it too. I was thinking I might have a bit of oversupply? Or maybe he is just gassy?? who knows?
Amy, wow! Sleeping through the night is fantastic for you. Even better for those time when you are on your own. Fingers crossed Quinn keeps that up for you.
Keta- hope you have managed to catch up on some naps and you are doing ok with hubby away. Keep calling on your mum and sis if you can!
Dusty- I had been thinking that our babies sounded very similar and now I am convinced! We just had Ash weighed and he is 7.4kgs at nearly 8 weeks (he was born a hefty 4.8kgs). It's no fun lumping that chump around, I can tell you. Have to admit I'm a bit worried about how I am going to pick him up if he keeps up the weight gain.
Chody- how is your little darling going? Still thriving? Sounds like she is doing well from some of your other threads.
As for us, we are doing okay. Ash now settles straight away after night feeds (apart from the farting/burping thing that sometimes needs attention). Day sleeps are a mystery to me.... we have been out and about at a lot at appoinments etc so it's all a bit hit and miss. I am seriously hopeless at judging his tired signs, and there is no self settling during the day (can just imagine with the MHCN is going to say, but feeding to sleep is working for us at the moment) but we are slowly getting a little bit of a rhythm to our days when we can. I had PND with my daughter and constantly stressed about sleep, so I swore we would just wing it with No 2 and do what works.
Best wishes for anyone I have missed.
Double post oops
i just weighed James - 6.6kgs. He's 7 weeks today. :)
