Babies Born ~ July 2013 #1

How is everyone? We ended up with another viral infection after his party... the rash appeared a couple days after his party. Then a couple of days ago I got the rash! Luckily it was just mild for me & not on my face, the little guy had it everywhere & quite inflamed on his face. Had a couple of sleepless nights bc he couldn't get comfortable, flip-flopped all night, think his cheeks must've been itchy. It's still there but fading now. He was ok, just quite sensitive & quick to grizzle. Went back to feeding twice overnight while he was sick though, so I'm quite tired. He hasn't been feeding overnight for the past month really, waking but not feeding. Anyway, seems better as of yesterday so that's a relief. We also had an appt about his testicles (apparently sitting quite high), but specialist checked him out & said he's normal. Very relieved bc mchn & gp weren't sure if he'd have to have minor surgery. Appt was at royal chn's & walking around it made me feel very grateful to have my beautiful, healthy baby boy. Got chatting to one mum whose baby was born at 25 weeks & had health issues etc. I couldn't even imagine the stress & worry. Anyway, reminded me to appreciate how lucky I am. : )

Sorry to hear you and your little guy have been unwell, glad you are both on the mend :)

So sorry to hear about your bubs Andie. I hope he recovers quickly. And yes we are all so lucky to have bubbas that are happy, healthy and growing as they should.

Peeks - I see your nearly 20 weeks. Are you going to find out again this time what your having???

AFM - Things are going well. Jack cruised through his immunisations thank god! I was all prepared for a crap weekend but all good. It was the first weekend in ages that he has been so happy and good. We had a professional photo shoot over the weekend. So many cute photos to choose from.

My scan is in 2 weeks, hoping to find out :) Not fussed either way, but I don't like surprises ;) I had started to pass on DD's clothes she had outgrown, but soon as I got my BFP I quickly stopped that! I really need to sort them out, but holding off until after my scan.

Glad the imms went well, vic. We haven't done the 12mth ones yet. Awesome you had a pro photo shoot! Did Jack cooperate?

Hope everyone is going well. We've had a few unsettled nights with DD teething. She is still in our bedroom, and I'm not sure when/if to move her. Might get a bit crowded when the baby comes! DD is into everything. Pulls all the mugs and glasses out of the cupboards etc. I tried for a couple of weeks of using a stern "no!" and moving her away, but over the weekend I ended up threading and knotting elastic through the door handles to keep them closed. My sanity just couldn't handle it anymore lol. Went to my parents house for dinner on Saturday night and spent the most part hovering over her as they have so many breakables at child level. Please let this stage pass quickly!

hey, peeks - i know what you mean about them being in to everything! my ds has a very keen eye for something that has been left at his level that he is not supposed to have... he gets this cheeky look on his face and looks right at me, then practically runs over to wherever it is. its actually quite funny, but tiring too. our ds is still in our room too... i guess i should move him but he is still waking 1-2 times a night, not feeding - just waking. daytime naps have been really hard too now... he fights them for about 40 mins, then sleeps for 40 mins. arghhhh! i tried just giving him 1 nap per day, but he didn't cope with that. ive noticed he's been quite cuddly, coming over to me & putting his head on my shoulder for a few seconds, then off he goes again. this is quite substantial for my little guy bc he never stays still for 1 second!

Andie, is it easy to get him back to sleep when he wakes overnight? DD does the same cheekyness when she sees me coming to take something away from her, so cute though :)
Vic, glad Jack was good for his needles. I keep hearing from people that this age is the best so may think of getting some photos done too :)

Our house is sick at the moment. DD had a fever yesterday, but seems ok today. But I have woken this morning with the flu I think. Aches and pains, cold barely get out of bed. She had her vaccinations last week and she was fine. Her molars have just come through last week, explains a bit of irritability lately. I really am so happy with her, she is always happy to play, loves daycare, loves to 'do it herself'. She makes me smile every day :)

tasha - sometimes it's easy to get him back to sleep, other nights no. It's really a mixed bag atm. If its after 4/5am I just bring him in bed with us. Although he takes forever getting to sleep then too, touching my face, patting my eyebrows/hair etc. it's incredibly sweet, but GO TO SLEEP ALREADY!! he's just too cute for his own good. : )

your dd sounds adorable, it really is a special age. I know we all keep saying that about every age/stage... ; )
I need to get the 12 mth vaccinations done too, good to hear your dd was ok with them. I hope you get well soon, being sick & looking after babies is not fun. :-/

I'm another one loving this age! DD is like a sponge soaking everythinggggg up! Really amazes me how clever these little babies are - the first couple of years with my boys passed in a blur, so feels like I have forgotten all these little things they do!

I had my 20wk scan, we are welcoming another little princess into our family :) I've already been out shopping (couldn't help myself!). Shame this babe will be born the opposite season to DD, there are some outfits I still have that are like brand new, but likely they will fit at the wrong time of the year :( My boys were hoping for a little brother, so DS2's response was "that's the dumbest thing ever!" haha :/

I too am loving this age I am totally hopelessly in love with my DS. He is such an amazing little boy and I fall more and more in love with him every day. He is walking around now and is such a fun bubbly little boy. He gets more and more fun to hang out with. He is starting to push the boundaries but smiles with his dipples ever so sweetly while bashing his car on my glass sliding door. Its hard to stay mad and just hope my love for him doesn't make me a push over parent. I think I am doing ok so far but we have an awful long way to go. My sisters have teenagers and struggling. Its nice to have a cute 1 year old :)

Haha, vic - I worry about being a pushover too... I can't help it when he looks at me with his cheeky little face. It's just too cute. Maybe when they get older it will be easier to be fair but firm with them?!

I'm curious what everyone's routines/activities are like atm? Nap times & for how long, what they're eating, what activities (play) they're enjoying atm. I'm feeling a bit lost with ds's sleep still, wondering if I tweaked his sleep, play or eating it would make a difference... I'm desperate!

Yeah, where did my post go? strange....I have a friend who's little boy refuses to sleep. He rarely does a 2 hour stint. It drives her mad, but she has a 5 year old too so has it perks sometimes like kinder drop off etc. Sometimes it's frustrating when I need to go somewhere and I have to wait for her to wake up! :lol:

DS is a pretty good sleeper. His wake up time is between 6.30am and 7am. We give him a bottle on the change table while we puts on a fresh nappy and his PJ's (he sleeps in a button up singlet with sleeves no pants and a sleeping bag). Then he roams around in his bedroom/ lounge room until breakfast at 8am (1 kids weetbix with cows milk). Then he gets dressed and we are out the door by 8.30am I drop him off at daycare 4 days a week. There he plays, has morning tea (it varies depending on the menu, usually fruit platter). He has lunch around 11.30am which I pack. Half a cheese spread sandwich, tub of yogurt (kids one) and some fruit (couple of strawberries or mandarin). He has a bottle just before bed and goes down around 12pm - 12.30pm for around 2.5 - 3 hours. I get them to wake him after 3 hours as he can sleep up till 4 hours. I say no longer than 3 hours and to wake up no later than 3.30pm no matter when he went to sleep. He has afternoon tea (again whatever is on the menu). Around 4pm he gets a bit grizzly so a bit of bottle (normally wont drink it all) and I pick him up at 5.00pm. He roams around home and dinner is usually 5.45pm. I make up batches of vegies and just heat them and add protein. Either chicken, tuna, home made spaghetti bog. He like chicken schnitzel cut up like little nuggets. He is trying to feed himself so he has a spoon and I have a spoon. Desert can be more yogurt, occasionally custard. I try not to give him more fruit if he has had heaps at daycare. We eat at 6.00pm. He plays while we eat/clean up kitchen. Normally one of us will play in his room with him from 6.30pm till 7.00pm, while the other finishes the kitchen/ makes phone call etc. I find he really loves that time of night. Then its bath, bottle and bed. Usually in bed by 7.30 at the latest. He pretty much sleeps through. Wakes me for a dummy if he cant find it himself. I watch him sometimes looking for them and can usually find them himself.

The 3 days he is home with me we stick to that routine pretty much. I take him to playgroup Friday mornings and Kindergym Saturday mornings. Sunday is a pj morning followed by visiting friends in the afternoon. We play a lot. We have an outdoor area and I have his CD player and get the music cranking. He is into opening and closing things. Cause and effect toys. Music, musical instruments. He loves his ride on cars and his red coupe car. Although mostly its opening and closing the door :) He like to draw, but is not really into playdough yet. He loves cooking things. Little pots and pans and fake food. He loves bubbles. His mini trampoline. Not really into snuggly toys.

Vic, is Jack not a big eater? Dd has 2 weetbix with milk, sometimes 3!! Or is she just a little piggy? :lol: Actually daycare said that the other week she finished her lunch and then grabbed the kid next hers and ate it :o

Also Vic, do you have to bring your own food to daycare?

thanks, vic. again, other than the sleeping - quite similar! ds is really enjoying doors atm too, still loves pots, lids & spoons too. especially when I pop some sweet corn kernels in there. ; )
he is becoming more interested in cars/toys with wheels zooming them around the house which is very cute to watch.

after posting about his sleep, he slept 1.5 hrs for morning & 1.25 hrs for arvo nap the next day! it was just a one time deal, but still... : )

Well done to your little guy Andie :) They'll be ready do drop to one nap soon enough so he'll probably be so exhausted he'll have a decent nap for you!

DD is much better now with the antibiotics. Still trying to encourage walking, but she's not into it yet. She knows wheat I'm doing and cracks it by plonking on her bum and crying. I catch her standing all by herself all the time though. I just want to put shoes on her! :lol:

Tasha - After reading your post I offered Jack 2 weetbix and he ate them :o I dont think I have been starving him as he doesn't wake for a feed through the night and is certainly not a skinny minny but I have noticed that he is picking food off my plate lately. I thought it was just a fun thing to do, to eat off mums plate but maybe I do need to up his food a little bit. I feel like he is constantly eating but I guess its small amount often if that makes sense.

I only need to pack a sandwich, piece of fruit, tub of yogurt and his water bottle for daycare. They now provide the snacks (morning and afternoon) and nappies :)

This weekend was great. I gave Jack an almost dream feed at 5.15am both morning and changed his nappy and he went back to sleep until 8.45am Saturday morning and 9.10am Sunday morning. What a luxury!!! Both DH and I had a sleep in and got to eat a hot breaky in peace. And he still had his couple hours sleep in the afternoons. We feel a bit refreshed lol. Usually he is up between 6am and 7.00am and one of us gets up with him. It was so nice to snuggle in the morning. It was quite the rush to kindergym Saturday morning :)

Hope everyones bubba is well. We have 6 teeth here with another 2 about to erupt.

Vic, haha go Jack! :lol: I always read and was told to keep feeding until they turn their heads, so I always did. What state are you in again? I just think it's strange you need to bring food in. We aren't even allowed to bring food in because of nut allergies etc. The only thing I bring is a change of clothes and her bunny she sleeps with. Food, bibs and nappies are all supplied :) It's nice to have a sleep in too hey. I stay up to the late hour of 11pm these days lol. It's like something just changed in dd she used to wake about 7am, but for the past 2 months or so she will sleep through until around 8am. It's great on weekends, but not when I have an early start for work!


Today she had about 1/2 cup beef casserole, 1/3 cup yoghurt some sultanas and a plain biscuit for lunch. Is this still a lot compared to everyone else?

ds has about that much for lunch too, tasha - if I have a hot lunch for him. otherwise he'll nibble at a bit of sandwich (sometimes eats one square) fruit & cruskit. he prefers a hot lunch, soups, cottage pie, pasta, currys etc. sometimes he'll have custard or yoghurt after, depends. he eats a big breakfast & big dinner, so lunch is always hit & miss. I offer snacks a lot though & he still bf's a couple times a day.

I was supposed to get his 12 mth vax done today, but I woke up feeling a bit crappy so ill go in another 2 weeks. Don't want to have to get them done, he's so switched on now... he's gonna hate it!

Andie - I was dreading the 12 month ones as Jack really suffered the other ones. But to my delight he breezed through them and was a happy camper for days afterwards. I think it helps not being in the legs and not having the rotavirus liquid. I also waited a few weeks after he turned 1 as he had constant colds and I think that also helped.

Jack has 1/2 a sandwich (one piece of bread folded over), fruit (mandarin or strawberries) and a tub of yoghurt for lunch. He also has fruit time around 10.00am which is a big platter of fruit he can pick from. Yesterday at child care they made banana smoothies, which was a massive hit with all the bubbas, and cruskits with dips for afternoon tea. I asked what the dips were and they said french onion, tziki (or however you spell it) and avocado. I would never think to give him normal dips like they did. The kids all loved to dip the cruskit fingers in the dips.

Just peeking in to say hi! Hope everyone is doing well :) So busy here at the moment as I'm caring for 4 orphan kittens - they are now around 5 weeks old. Weaning them off the bottle and onto solids!! Getting practice in again for the new baby ;)

bit of biting going on atm, got a decent chomp on my arm that has bruised. ds must be teething I guess, but jeepers his little teeth are sharp. no bites while bf'ing so I guess I should be thankful. :-/

Oh ouch!! DD has bitten hubby a few times.. hasn't bitten me (yet!). Hubby is a bit cautious now when DD gives a cuddles and snuggles into his shoulder as that's where he copped it! All is fine here, same old same old! :)
