Hey girls,
Queen Bee, Definitely just went through another growth spurt here too, Chomping 2hourly. Day and night, Seems to be settling now.
We used a teething necklace forDD and it was awesome. The first night she wore ut she slept 13 hours!! ( at about 10months) after weeks upon weeksof broken sleep. My nephew got one and had awesome results as well. We need to get a funky boy one for DS, lots of drool and biting here. There's a facebookpage and website called giggle and grow that sell them. Why did DH talk you out of it? DD is still wearing hers as she is gettng her 2 year old molars. It dramatically reducede our panadol use too
Thanks for your kind words about my words, 12 years ago I studied creative writing for year with plans of writing one day, BUt I decided to go and live some so I knew about life, then I could write. I'm keen to start writing a bit more and 6 word fridays are a great start.
Internet still not workihg too well so still no personals, sorry
Happy days
Cass, About your DSD, you're definitely doing the right thing
My mum was very unsupportive when I got my period. She sent me on my bike to buy pads which to me was mortifiying but she got a hysterectomy just after I was born and was so out of touch with it all, and we have an 'interesting' relationship
Anyway, when my Aunty found out she got me aside, gave me a big cuddle and told me I could go to her anytime. You just need someone. IT makes all the difference. She was mum's best friend (pretend Aunty) and she also told mum off so she got a bit better after that.
I am close to my Aunty to this day and my DD's middle name is the name of her daughter who sadly died in a car accident when she was 25, leaving behind an 18 month old bub.
Now its my turn to be there for my Aunty and i try and involve her in much of my life nad my childrens.
Keep doing what your doing
Thanks Polly. We dropped the kids back to their mum's yesterday and DSD gave me the biggest cuddle (make that squeeze!). It's hard to drop them off sometimes particularly since she told me how much she misses her dad (and I know that he feels the same way). Watching her drag her feet up the path to the front door was pretty sad.
Shell - I too am suffering from gnawed on nipples!!
Breesa - well done Ciaran!! Has he done it again?
Roxie - I hear you on the daycare thing. We are waiting to see if DH is getting posted back to the ACT. If he does it's great because there are daycare facilities at my workplace (I'm currently on leave without pay). If not, I know that I will have to find another job (and soon!) but I'm dreading having to leave Robert. The longest I've been apart from him is a quick dash down the shops!!
Polly - I was thinking about an amber necklace, so glad to hear you recommend them. Is it too early to use one now??
Cass - yup, repeat performances last nite and this morning. Guess he needs to build up his strength so he can sit for longer! I also left him on his tummy today for like 15min and he was still kicking around happily. No sign of rolling from back to belly yet though (not that i mind!).
On another note, my mum was over on Tues nite. She left me a voice voicemail today, saying wht a great, natural mum I am - for those who recall my mum issues late in the pregnancy, this is a big event! Gotta be happy with that compliment, esp from my mum :)
Hey Breesa,
I don't think its too early, I wish I'd known about them earlier for DD, I am just ordering one for DS now, Lovely that your mum is being supportive, it really meanas a lot doesn't it!
Off to get my amber necklance, hopefully twill stop the biting
Happy Thursday
Robert slept from 7 last night until 4 this morning! A big first for us. Now I guess we wait and see if it was just a case of a good night's sleep after having croup and not being able to sleep properly for the past week or, if we've turned a corner! Must say my boobs were killing me though!!
The other night Miss H slept from 7 till 3 before waking for a feed
then we were doing bed at 8 up at 12 then 3 then 6
now we are back to more feeds every 2 hours ,sometimes more sometimes less, i just go with it , im used to being up at night now .
I have been thinking back to when she was screaming at night and we were up all hours rocking walking around driving in the car ,nights where she just wouldnt sleep and nothing we could do would calm her, they feel so un real now like a blur ..At the time we thought we would never be able to do it but we coped, that stage has passed thank god lol
So who is returning to work? what will u be doing with ur bubs?
whats new with everyone?
What are ur bubs doing during the day now sleep wise play wise?
Hey Shell, This biggest lesson I've learnt as a parent is "this too shall pass", it counts for teh good things too so you know to enjoy them. I tried to remember when DS was sleeping through the night it might not last forver, now he goes to sleep about 11pm wakes 3:30am and 6:30am usually but sometimes more. I know its a bad night when I don't know how many times he woke..just lots!
I have been back at work but so far lots from home nad half days at work, in four weeks I awill be back 3 full days 2 half days and 10 ish hours at home. One of my full days my Mum will look after DS (DD in at 'play school' and the other days DH stays home, WOrks weekend nights. I am the main bread winner for the family which is a tough positions but means that DH gets a great relationshipwityh the kids. Ultimately we both want to work 3 days. ANd towards the end of the year DS will probably start going to daycare with DD. It seems so much easier now that we know the girls and DD is happy there.
DS still sleeps between most feeds but has more awake time. He loves being in a carrier so we do lots of house work etc and then he also plays on teh floor under the play gym and even now in the jumparoo (DD didn't have it til 7 months but he loves it) Next week we want to buy him a bumbo with a play tray. He has rolled front toback a couple of times but not consistently.
Thats us at the moment, ! A bit rambly//feeeling very sleep deprived but happy!
Hi girls. It feels like I haven't posted here for ages - how life flys by eh?
We've been pretty busy with visitors (3 teenage girls:o) and lots of catching up with friends. I'm feeling a bit tired at the moment as Toby's not sleeping as well as he had been. Plus I'm terrible at staying up too late and not getting enough sleep :shakehead:.
Toby had his needles last week and he took it like a man  Just a bit of a scream then he was smiling at the dr. He did end up with a pretty big lump and bruise on one leg though - I think the nurse put it in too low. It was down by his knee and I don't think there's as much fat there. Poor wee guy. He weighed in at 6.8 kg and was 64 cm long. A whopper compared to DD who was 8.5 mths before she hit 7 kgs!
We put him in the Jolly Jumper for the first time on Friday and he loved it. It was soooooo cute watching him figure out that he could jump, and the massive smiles and giggles that came when he got it. I'm picking up an exersaucer for him tomorrow which he loved in the shop so fingers crossed he'll enjoy that too. He's rolling from front to back fairly regularly - although I'm not sure if it's by fluke or by design. He's almost got back to front but his arm gets in the way so it could take a while for him to figure that one out. I'm in no rush and don't to hurry him with anything - just savoring every moment. He's loving blowing raspberries too - very messy but very cute.
Polly - Toby seems to be the same with the sleeping as your wee guy, although he'll usually go down about 7.30 pm for a decent stretch until midnightish. But from about 3am he wakes A LOT  Some mornings I feel like my eyes are hanging out of my head I'm so tired. How do you manage to work?! A friend suggested that he might need solids but I'm pretty firm on wanting to wait until closer to 6 mths. And I guess I'm not convinced that will help because he does a big stint earlier on :dunno: Oh, and really lovely poem by the way. You are one talented lady.
shell - That's awesome that Hannah slept through until 3am. Did you feel better for it, or worse? Sometimes I think I feel worse if I get a long sleep now, it's strange. I won't be going back to work at this stage. We decided before we had kids that I would stay home if we were able to financially. It's getting pretty tight just now but we're managing and we're hoping DH will have a better job in the next couple of months which will take off some pressure.
Cass - has Robert slept through again? Hope the croup has gone - it sounds pretty scary. And with your DSD - it sounds like you're doing all you can. I think if you build a good relationship with her eventually she will come to you more and more and hopefully you and DH will be able to be a secure base for her for when things get tough (as they always do with teenagers). Must be hard for you both though
QB - I'm hoping all Toby's waking is the growth spurt you mentioned and that he'll settle down. How have you been feeling? I've had the odd day here and there when I've felt pretty miserable and the PND feelings were lurking. I think a big part of it for me is that I've put on about 5 kgs since Toby was born and I'm feeling really gross and unattractive. I've started WW (just at home. I have the books and can't afford to go to meetings) and I'm trying really hard to get into regular exercise. I'm hoping that will help with my moods too and give me a reason to be happy with myself, IYKWIM?
Bree - that's great that your Mum left you such a nice message. I'm sure it meant a lot to you. Toby's also starting to want to sit all the time. He even pulls himself up in his car seat! I sit on the floor with him between my legs and he sits and plays with his toys. He loves it! He's also started with the one poo a day. I said to DH how relieved I was that you'd mentioned it otherwise I might have worried because he used to poo so much!
roxxie - I'm so jealous that you have a cleaner! Don't feel guilty - it gives you more time to be with Lacie and that must be a good thing :D. Sounds like you're getting lots of good sleep there too.
LJ - The new pram is a Steelcraft Strider 4. Toby and I are both loving it because we can see each other. He's a lot happier in the pram now and will just drift off to sleep if he needs to. Plus it has a huge shopping basket, which is always a bonus!
Hope you've all had a good weekend. I'd better get to bed now - another busy week ahead here.
My lovely little bub is starting to really take to food. I bought a couple of sachets of the Rafferty's Garden 4 month vegies. I'ved mixed a teaspoonful of the apple and pears with farex for his breakfast and he likes it. I gave him a feed (breast) this afternoon and he seemed to want something more so I gave him a couple of teaspoonfuls of the sweet potato, carrot and apple sachet. I know it's slack because I could be making my own, but there's nothing else in these except fruit and veg. I'm always giving him the breast first - at least until he's 6 months old. My theory is that he doesn't really need the "food" so it can come second to the booby milk!
He loves rolling! You lay him on his back and quick as you please he's rolled over onto his tummy. He's trying to crawl which is just gorgeous! He pulls his knees up to his tummy and sticks his bum in the air (hillarious when the nappy's off - got many videos of him for his 18th). Now he just has to get the hands coordinated. At the moment he's pushing himself along on his face. If I walk out of the room I will always walk back in to find him facing in a different direction. He has his own form of breakdancing (yep, showing my age here) spinning himself round on his tummy.
Feeding is so interactive now. He just loves an audience. He knows when I start watching telly, talk to someone else or my attentions not on him. He stops sucking, turns his head towards me and waits for me to catch his eye. I tell him yes he's the centre of my attention and he smiles that wonderful gummy smile and goes back to drinking. If I do ignore him, he's not above biting down on my nipple (ouch!!).
We haven't had a repeat performance of the big sleep. I'm thinking that was a one off from being absolutely exhausted from being sick and not sleeping properly - either that or DH and I were so out of it from not getting any sleep at all for 5 days that we slept through him waking up! I guess he can't have cried too much because DS1 didn't get up to him and his bedroom is right next door to the nursery. I've gone back to giving a dreamfeed last thing before I go to bed otherwise I get up twice a night. Getting up more than once just seems to make me more tired. I would rather go to bed a bit later. No matter what his wake up time seems to be between 5 and 5.30. Then it's a feed a bit of a play and then back to sleep within about an hour and half for a big morning sleep. This is followed by a feed and a play then a bigger middle of the day sleep. Then he has an afternoon nap, going down somewhere between 4 and 5 otherwise it's meltdown time. Bathtime is between 6 and half past, followed by a feed then it's bedtime.
Well that's about it from me. I'm going to get him weighed on Wednesday, so I'll let you know where he's at now..... gosh can't believe he's been here for 20 weeks already!!
Ok so it's my turn to be proud Mummy :D
Toby rolled from his back to front for the first time today  It was very exciting and totally unexpected. I was sitting with him on the floor and chatting to a friend that was visiting and he was reaching for his toy. Next thing I know he's rolled over and I'm shrieking about how clever he is. He was of course, very pleased with himself. I think he heard me telling another friend this morning that he was rolling from front to back but that it was more fluke than anything and he wanted to prove me wrong. After the excitement died down I actually felt a little sad and had a moment thinking that he's growing up too quickly. Talk about being all over the show
He also had his first go in an exersaucer I bought online. It's great! He was loving all the different things to look at. Will only let him stay in it for 5 mins at a time for now though as I don't think it's great for them to be in that position for too long.
Cas - same here with pulling knees up. It's bloody terrifying! I'm sure DD wasn't this active so early on. And the pulling off while feeding thing is starting to get a tad embarrassing when we're out in public as he pulls off while I'm having a big let-down and has a good look around all the while I'm spraying all over the place. Not very discreet!
Polly - I'm thinking of trying some cloth nappies as Toby seems to be getting a bit irritated by the disposables and I think I read a post with you recommending a good, reasonably priced AIO??? Did I? Or am I having a severe attack of baby brain? If I did would you please let me know the brand?
Bed time for me. I'm making an effort to get to bed earlier so I'm not so tired all the time.
Yay!!! Well done Toby!!!
Cass - nice bragging! Robert is clearly developing well :)
Jandals - I use cloth too and AIO are great. I can recommend trying some 2nd hand ones in good nick - I bought alot from usednappies.com.au (some are even brand new but only washed and not used).
I like my BabyBeehind Magicalls (you would need size M/L) and have some Cushie Tushies which I also quite like - they are a universal fit so last longer.
Lots more sitting up happening here on a daily basis - but Ciaran still isnt into the rolling from back to belly, or crawling (just lots of leg kicking)..
Hope your all well!
yeh we have been doing the crawling movements for a while now so cute
and still rolling as well, always wanting to sit up , still bit wobbly though... i was thinking bout gettiing a jolly jumper but im not sure if i shouldvery confused
last night Miss H went to sleep at 8,thn didnt wake up till 1,had a feed then slept till after 5 , i woke up to her still asleep with fulllllll boobs wet soaking bra and top got up changed bras and my boobs were leaking milk all over the floor lol, very funny sight, i had to wake her for a feed, she was stirring anyway i felt bad but didnt know what else to do
Hey all,
We're not rolling here, a few belly to backs some weeks ago but now if he gets agitated he just puts his head down for a rest. Too Zen to worry about rolling. I am sure it will happen. Breesa, as for crawling DD didn't even start til 7months which was a lot earlier than some of her friends so I think it will all happen in good time.
Jandals I am a big cloth nappy fan. Used Greenkids for DD which are a pocket nappy but this time have used Flip AI2 AWESOME, not cheap though, $99 for 2 covers and 6 inserts, though unless tehre is runny poos 2 inserts will last the day and they still fit my DD when most others are too small. LEss washing too as you only wash the covers after a few wears of if they get soiled. They are snap closure, Green kids were velcro
I also used Bonnibuns and Daniel is on their website at 3 days old wearing a pale green AIO. Great product, no leaks, I have 9 all together but fell in love with Flip so am thinking of selling them if you're interested. Used 2-3 times each. PM me if your interested. LOVE Bonnibuns wipes and wetbags and use them all the time, even if we're using disposables. I think the disposable wipes cause a lot of irritation too.
The other brands of nappies worth looking at a Real Nappies- much cheaper and similar to Flip but sized and velcro I think nad Eenees or Weenees (depending on your state) also sized, simlar to flip anf velcro
This thing I love about Flip and Eenees is you can use disposale inserts which are compostable and some are flushable when you're out and about or on holidays which makes lots less washing. We used teh disposable inserts in NZ
Well, best go, have done something horrid to my back, in the middle, can't breath very well or bend over and pick up Daniel. Hope it gets better quick.
Happy WEdnesday all
Opps got a jumperroo today, popped her in one at the store loveeddddd it didnt mean to
Hi girls...been a while since I posted and a lot seems to have happened.
Took Soph for a measure and weigh - she is 6.6kg (my son was this at 8 weeks - big chubba he was!!) - but her growth is good as she was tiny (2.9kg) at birth and is still 60th percentile - so happy....has just come out of a growth spurt and has some rolls on the tops of her legs - so cute!! She was 75th percentile for her length - can't remember exactly the cms (63 maybe??)
Soph is just an absolute delight of a baby - I am so lucky...so really never cries! I guess this makes up for my beautiful son who was a crier!! At nearly 2.5yrs he still cries more than she does..LOL!!!
Soph is rolling front to back and rolled back to front earlier this week!! I am impressed with this as her tummy/ground time is limited to times that it is safe due to boisterous toddler boy!!
Sorry someone was talking about when crawling will start - and I agree with Polly - it can happen at any time really up to 12mths. In fact, my DS was sitting completely unsupported by 5 months but he didn't roll at all until 6.5mths. He was walking at 11months, but didn't crawl until 18 mths (just copies someone else)...his development was ad hoc...he commando crawled for a while then went straight to walking and skipped crawling altogether!! So it is going to be a surprise to see how Soph approaches things.
Soph has started moving herself in her walking...she is so proud of herself rolling about the house - thing is she can only go backwards!! LOL!
Shell and Jandals - I was wondering when to use the jolly jumper - might whip it out today!
I had a sleep and settling nurse come and visit this week (it is a free service so thought I might as well), as I was concerned that Soph is a catnapper. It was good - in that she reassured me that she is truly a catnapper. My settling techniques etc are fine and since she never cries or has an arsneic hour - then I just have to accept that she is like that! Fortunately she is very easy to put to sleep - although not a self settler to sleep. She gave me a few tips - in letting her lie in her cot after she is awake until she calls for me so at least she is having quiet time and then if she does want to go back to sleep eventually she can...so this was a good tip. As she was also a lactation consultant - I talked to her about Soph's feeding and I am trying to stretch her out to more like 3 hours in the day between feeds - instead of every two...she seems to be asking around 2hr 45mins - and is less spewy.
Soph has three catnapping sleeps per day - morning around 9.30am, then around midday and then 3.30. The morning and afternoon sleep are for about 30-40mins. The middle of the day sleep is around 1 hr.
She then goes to sleep between 6.30pm and 7pm. I usually have to resettle her once of twice in the 90mins after she goes to sleep. Then she seems to be waking somewhere between midnight and 2 for a feed. Then she is up around 4-5am and very unsettled - so I usually bring her bed with me. Soph is still sleeping in the basinette in my room..The nurse suggested starting her day sleeps in her cot soon and try to move her by 6mths...might try soon. She is going to grow out of the basinette soon.
Soph had needles this week and coped really well - she was awfully sick for a week after her first lot - so that was a big relief...sadly toddler is sick again! Can't believe it - so he is home with me today and not at kindy today (my one day rest)...He is also suffering from pain with his two year molars cutting...
Anyone with other kids - he is off his food - chews and spits it out - is this common with cutting the molars...what else for relief??
Polly - Thanks for info re amber necklace.
Cass - I too have only left Soph for a dash to the shop. Robert is such a strong boy pushing his knees under himself!! Go Robert!
Shell - I am going back to work next year part time - don't know exactly yet. I remember being soaking when my son started sleeping through - I had to sleep on towels and had multiple changes per night!!
Jandals - Yay Tobi with your roll!! Soph is also v unsettled in the morning - wonder what it is - she is windy - is Tobi? Ah a strider...I got the original strider for my son but that doesn't have toddler attachments...I am thinking of getting a side by side stroller type...have to make a decision soon. I hear you about the messy pull off during a feed!!!
Bree - Glad you are chuffed with the message your mum left you...at least you know what she really does feel.
Hello everyone. Hope you all had a good weekend.
My brother and his wife are currently on their first cycle of IVF. They received a call from the clinic yesterday to say that they have two emby's at day 3 one is 4 cells and the other 12 cells. The clinic said that the 4 cell one was a little slow. They are both a little deflated - she had 9 eggs retrieved and 5 were mature enough. Tuesday is the scheduled transfer day so I'm crossing everything for them.
DH and I were lucky enough to fall pregnant on our first cycle (and just feel so blessed with our little man).
It doesnt take long for this thread to get away on you does it?
Fingers crossed for your brother Cass. My brother and his wife went through IVF to have my niece and he said it was a very emotionally and physically draining time for them.I cant imagine what it must be like so I hope the are successful.
Lils it sounds like Peppar and Sophie are on par with each other growth wise. Peppar was alot bigger born though.
Im over the sick toddler too. Scout has just had a bout of tonsilitis coupled with the horrendous two yr old attitude he has at the moment I was ready to give him away.
Polly thanks for all the info on the nappies. I am looking at giving them a go too so its always nice to hear from others about their choices. I have bought a couple of Bum cheeks so will let you know how I go. Peppar isnt rolling yet either. She HATES her tummy so I think this has alot to do with it. Im in no hurry for it to happen though, I am happy for her to stay my baby for as long as possible.
Shell how does Hannah like her Jumperoo? I have just bought an exersaucer for Peppar and I cant wait for it to arrive. She loved it in the shop too and cried when we took her out of it.
When Peppar first started to sleep through I would wake rock hard and soaked through but things have settled now so hopefully it doesnt take long for you too.
Breesa we have an amber necklace but it came with a bracelet too. The bracelets too big for her wrist so I have it around her ankle at the moment. She was fair chomping her fingers (and my nipples) so I thought maybe things are moving around in there. Im not so keen to use the necklace just yet but will be when she is a little bigger.
Hi to everyone else, hope you are all enjoying your little people :clap:
Peppar had her first sleep over on Saturday. My DS8 got to play at half time during the wallabies - Springboks rugby game so my Mum had my two youngest for the night and DH and I took the older boys to watch their brother.
I was fretting a bit as it was the first time I had left her (aside for with DH) but she was an angel.
She slept for 11 hours over night which freaked my mum out  but having DS2 there with her made her comfortable I think. I was there sparrows fart to pick her up though and I did have to express when we got home from the game and again when I woke up but I know now I can leave her no worries.
She took the expressed milk no problems and had some formula too so we have cracked this "wont take a bottle" thing.
I tried to give her some leftover expressed milk last night but she was too tired and wanted the real thing. Scout picked it up the bottle and I said to him "you have it" (he still has a cows milk bottle before bed) so he skulled it. I didnt think he would but he was none the wiser and it certainly cant hurt him.
Well I think that is all in our camp hope all is good in yours.
What sizes are you all looking at for summer clothes? I know its hard because everyones sizes are so different but generally speaking its 0's for us.
I really have to ebay all her too small stuff so I can buy way too much for summer! :shakehead:
My sweet little man has become very demanding!!!
Cass so is Hannah lol
Yeah same here - whats with this suddenly demanding, chewing noisy baby?
And Ciaran is screaming the house down now - so loud when he chats... its quite high pitched at times - ouch!
Breesa, I'm so glad someone elses little man is a squealer!!! Robert has decided that he can squeal and it's so high pitched (and down right annoying after a while - which I'm sure he knows because he smiles at me like he's funny).
I just love all the new noises (well except for the high pitched ones). Every week they discover something new they can do.
I have a demanding squealer here too! But I'm loving the chatting and he's started "kissing" me - soooooo cute.
How often are your babies waking during the night? Toby's waking a lot still in early morning and it's killing me - I'm so damn tired. That real body aching tired.
I'm off to make a cup of tea then it's bed for me.
Oh, and thanks for the nappy info Polly and Bree. I really loved the look of the Flip system but it's just too $$ for me to test how I cope with the extra washing  but if I decide to stick with the cloth thing I think I'll give them a go. I really like that it's one size fits all and that you can use disposable inserts. What do you use at night?
I ended up getting a Widdle Wuns, which wasn't cheap but can also be used as a night nappy and had great reviews. I think I was lucky to get one as the lady only makes a few at a time. Seems to be the way with a lot of the MCNs - esp the highly recommended night nappies.
We're still waking 2 hourly after midnight, sometimes every 90 mins and I too have bone aching, overwheling tiredness. In less than 4 weeks I am back to t5 days work. Starting to freak, I can't imagine fitting in any more. Something will have to give, hopeflly not my sanity. Daniel has started trying to roll today, YAY but still a while away. A big talker too. I love it!
Gotta go, too tired to type. Happy days all
Hi all,
I can't believe how long it has been since I last sat down and read through the threads! So much has been happening here and generally any chance i have to get on the internet I have a quick look at facebook and then my time is up!
Sophie is doing well but we have had a bit of a bad run lately which is why I'm so time poor. I think last time I was on here I mentioned that we had gone to see an osteopath. Well, we ended up going every week for about 6 weeks and then had two fortnightly visits and Sophie's muscle problems have been fixed as much as the osteopath can fix them. Unfortuantely her poor neck control has caused her a slight flat spot so we were referred to a physio and have that coming up on the 12th Aug - dreading the fact that my little girl may need to wear a helmet, but we'll come to that if it happens. She has also had her first mild ear infection and a slight chest infection, which I suspect she caught from the childcare at the gym (I'll tell you about that in a minute!). On top of that we she has had constant eczema and STILL suffers from cradle cap - we were even prescribed a mild anti-dandruff shampoo to use for it but there hasn't been much change! We have a referral to a dermatologist for her excema but I'm holding off as the cream we are using has helped. Speaking of creams, I HIGHLY recommend Moo Goo if any of your bubs have dry skin - it has worked wonders on Sophies dry skin. Growth wise she is 5.8kgs and 60cm long - my DH calls her his Petite princess as she is only hitting the 25% range for growth. She is still 100% booby bub and feeds every 3 hrs except overnight when she goes to bed at 7pm, has dream feed around 10.30pm and then sleeps till 6.30am ish and has been doing this on/off for the past month - so I'm finally starting to catch up on my sleep!! No teeth yet but they are not far away as she is constantly gnawing her fist - i'm interested in these amber necklaces that many of you guys have mentioned. But apart from all our little problems, she is a very happy, smiling little girl who rarely cries. Unfortunately due to her neck issues she hates being on her tummy and has only rolled her shoulders a little, but nothing like a proper roll.
We are also struggling with our 2 y.o ATM who can be a real pain at times. He has taken to waking at 4.30am and doesn't want to go back to bed, so ends up in ours. We are finally having some success with toilet training, but it appears to be a very long road till we get to the out of nappy stage.
As I kind of mentioned earlier, I have joined the gym and re-joined Weight watchers, and these combined seem to take up all of 'my time' but I'm really enjoying it. One of my mum's group mums is training as a gym instructor and got a couple of us to come along, and I haven't looked back. Fortunately they have free childcare for an 1.5hr, so I use it as my escape when DS is giving me the gripes - and DH is supporting me by letting me go at night or on weekend, which is really great. Went to my first Zumba class tonight and really enjoyed it, and love Combat and Core which I try to do at least once a week. It took me ages to get the motivation to get off my bum but now that I have I feel so much better and have heaps more energy. I did WW after DS was born but sort of lost all focus when I stopped BF (as my points decreased and I couldn't stay on track.) I can proudly say I reached my pre-Sophie weight at weigh in today, and have lost 6.7kg is 6 weeks.
We are off to Brisbane on monday for a week as we are having a combined Baptism for Sophie and my sisters little boy on Sunday. I'm travelling with the two kids and DH is following on thurs as he has no leave available. We will all return home together on monday. I am looking forward to having a mini break and doing a bit of shopping!
Anyway, that's enough from me. It's good to see that that everyone else is doing well. I need to go give Sophie a dream feed and get some sleep, but I will hopefully catch up on some personals soon.
Lou x
Hi Again everyone,
I wrote on here about a month ago to say hi. My boy Lachan was born March 2nd. So he will be 5 months next Monday, I can't believe how fast time is going!
Thought I'd join and tell you how he has been going hope thats ok:-) He started on solids 3 weeks ago. An he is loving it and having 3 meals a day. Love apples, pears and all the sweet fruits :-) Not so keen on vegetables, but hopefully we will get there.
Thats so funny that your LO's have started the squealing thing too, Lachie started this in the past week. I think he just does it to get my attention cheeky little fella!
He is loving his exersaucer at the moment that I brought a few weeks ago. And starts geting really cranky everyday at 4.30 unless I take him for a walk. Not sitting up yet, I am hoping soon. But he slumps forwards straight away as soon as I sit him so don't think that will be happening for a while :-)
He is sleeping really well and goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps till 7 am with a dreamfeed at 10. So I am very happy with that.
Not sure if anyone lives in Brisbane? We went to a great new Mums and bubs cafe at southbank today, such a great Idea. They even had different baby purees etc on the menu!
Anyhow look forward to geting to know all of you :-)
Sally
Cass - Fingers crossed for your brother!
Stacey - a sick two yr old is an alien being!!!! So brill that Peppar slept over aok and took the bottle!
Jandals - Sophie is still waking alot at night - every 4 hrs on the dot!!
Polly - Sorry to hear that Daniel is waking so much....I need a solution too!
Lou - Congrats on the weight loss and excellent use of your time....well done - wish I was so motivated!
Sall - What a great sleeper Lachlan is!!
Well - alot has been happening here again! 2 yr old still sick so off to doctor again! He has been sick since the week Soph was born and I just kept being told he has a virus. I went to doctor and suggested asthma. I think he gets a cold and then it turns into asthma. So we have a puffer now and the last two days have been so different. He has been sleeping like a log, not crying as much and not coughing hardly at all. The doc said to see if it makes a difference and if it does, we go back and talk about how to manage the asthma. I have also taken him out of his one day a week of kindy. Every time he went he would end up sick and then have to have two weeks off. He'd get better, I send him and then he is sick again!!! So he is out of kindy for a few months. We were going to have to change his placement as his kindy only starts at 15mths so couldn't accomodate Sophie anyway. So we will find a new place before I go back to work to settle him into. It was a hard decision because he was going to give me a break primarily - but it ended up making life so much harder due to the sickness and drop off and pick ups were a 1 hr round trip (as he was going to a centre where my SIL worked so we bypassed many centres).
Soph has been a bit needy the last few days - but she is a pretty happy girl....so squealing here yet!
She is waking again every 4hrs overnight for a feed!!! Driving me crazy!!!
Went to doctor myself re PND this week too and scored very high....can't be medicated as I am breastfeeding - so it was push through or stop breastfeeding...so I am pushing through. Doc wants me to come back in two weeks to reassess. Sending me off for lots of blood tests too to check iron, vitamin levels etc. She also talked about "Me time" - at least it gives a jolt to DH...but he is putting in - it is just that we don't have anyone else to rely on....my family is in Brissie (90min away) and my mum never offers help! My hubby's fam is close to us. His Mum takes toddler every second Saturday morning for a few hours (say 3hrs) and my SIL has taken him twice for a couple of hrs when Soph was just born. However, we look after her kids every Monday arvo after school and have her 12 yr old sleep over every Sat night so she can have a break - guess who looks after her - me!! Oh and every school hols we have them for a few day!! DH says they are no hassel but I do the main work (they are good kids). But I think until I get some help in return I may just have to start saying no a bit!
Doc said about making people take the kids for some time out for me once a week - but I can' make people have them. We just moved to this area a few years ago and as I have been on maternity leave for nearly two years haven't made many friends...have a few through work but they are new friends. My old close friends are a couple of hours away! So doc wants me to problem solve this - hiring a babysitter seems to be my only option...anyone with suggestions...
Toddler demanding attention...gotta go
Sal - Of course we want your updates!!! Nice to hear from you again. Good to hear that Lachlan is doing well. I agree with you..... how quickly has the time gone?!
Lou - one of the girls in my mums group uses an olive oil based cream that you can get from the chemist. She swears by it. I'll get the name of it today. Excema is just horrid. Had that with DS1 (he also ended up with childhood asthma - which he's since grown out of - apparantly theres a connection)
LJ - one word..... NO!!! No you cannot continue to look after your SILs kids. I know how tiring it can be when we have DHs kids over for the weekend. They are 15 and 12 yrs and for the most part self sufficient. I love them to bits but still extra kids in the house is extra tiring at the best of times. I think it's just the having extra people in the house. Tell her your doc said you need to stop for a bit - particularly the overnight visits. Your priority is your immediate family and yourself.
Jandals - Robert goes to bed by 7 (usually just before) then I give him a dream feed between 9 and 10 and then he's awake between 2 and 3 for another quick feed then it's back down until 530.
Polly - We've only just gone back to this pattern (see above). For a few weeks Robert regressed to waking up 2-3 hourly throughout the night. It was just a developmental thing, it just happens. Once I accepted that it seemed easier and I went with the flow and "fingers crossed" we are out the otherside and progressing to a better sleep routine. I can handle only getting up once!
Going to go wash and blow dry my hair while bubs is asleep....... ah the little luxuries we look forward to!!
Where do u live LJ?
Shell - I live in Banora Point in northern nsw (just on the border).
Poor Soph has little man's illness and now has wicked temps - she is being brave - so the saga of illness continues!
I know, MOstly I am pretty philosophical about it. We even had 4-5 weeks where he slept 8-10 hours at night a couple of weeks ago. But at about the 2 month mark of never having more than 2-3 hours sleep I am totally exhausted. I think I'll get DH to give a bottle tonight. I really do understand the use of sleep deprivation as torture these days. Work and a demanding 2 year old make day time napping impossible So I am running on about 5 hours of broken sleep each night. But this too shall pass. I hope he changes to a more sustainable pattern soon! The giggles almost make up for it! SOOO cute
LJ how are u feeling, how do they determine you have PND
Shell - They determine whether you have PND by your score on a test with multi choice questions and by asking questions to put that score in perspective, along with the amount of time is has existed and the strategies applied to get you feeling better and their success. As I have chosen to continue to breastfeed, medication is not an option. So I have to pull myself through - which I did with my son! I just have to get extra proactive about it....time to get super motivated I guess.
Soph is also waking two to three times a night for feeds - what can you do...just have to take the ride!
LJ. Yep, it is a ride and we keep going. Saturday night I thought I was going to lose it. Lack of sleep was getting to me big time. Last night he was perfect - I gave him a dream feed at 9.30 then he woke at 2 and then again at 5. I just feel so much better today. It's amazing what 4 hours of sleep in a row will do for the soul. I admire you for continuing with breastfeeding. Sometimes I think it would be so much easier if Robert would take a bottle, but honestly, I just treasure those moments when we just gaze at each other after a feed. Look after yourself LJ and know that we are all here for you.
Gosh, just re-read that post of mine....... hope you don't think I'm trivialising what you are going through! :comfort:
Hello fellow mummies....
Sorry for the short post but Ive been flat out building myself a website and would love your honest feedback when you have a chance...
Please let me know if you have any suggestions etc as this is only STAGE 1 and I have more ideas, but have to start somewhere!
you can check out the temporary site here: Pregnant Possibilities - Pregnant Possibilities - HypnoBirthing - Home
Please be as constructive as possible, and try to view the site as someone who knows nothing much about HypnoBirthing, and may be looking for information or deciding on if they do a course or not. Is there everything you need to know on there, do you have more questions, etc.
I am going to add a photo of me shortly…..
Thanks so much and hope you are all doing fabulously well - will make some time to catchup on posts soon.
xx
Bree, I had a quick look at the site. It looks great! Promise to have a proper look when I've got some time.
