Babies Born ~ May 16th-31st 2009 #8

Ahh thanks girls you make me feel better - and the doctor did say that normally babies with a temp that high are distressed but CJ looked pretty chipper. She has a throat and ear infection so we have antibiotics (she seemed to think we had done well to get to almost 12 months without any other scripts - but I am a bit wary of antibiotics and would rather she hadn't needed them for much longer). She is certainly a good hot water bottle at the moment! Now I just need to work out how to give her the medicine easily - she won't take anything off a spoon so that is out, and the syringe isn't great - I am sure I saw a thread on here recently so must go hunt that down.

BG - hope you get some rest soon.

Just running out the door, but wanted to pop in for you Vic. I find the easiest way to give Kyson panadol is to put it in the syringe and then let him grab the end of it and he puts it in his mouth. Then I squirt it so some goes in his mouth. He enjoys doing it this way and it saves a fight. Unfortunately when he is half asleep (in the middle of the night) he won't do it that way and I struggle to get anything into him without a fight. It's almost easiest to wait until he is crying and squirt it into the side of his mouth (the side so he doesn't inhale it...).

Vic: Sorry CJ is crook. Interesting what the dr said! I would've thought it's not odd for a kid to get to 12 months without needing ABs if they're an only child and not in childcare. Especially a breastfed one. Natalie got to 18 months before needing ABs! (But she was a summer baby.) From what I understand, their immunity drops some in the second year and that's when they're most susceptible to bugs etc. Sounds like she's coping well. When I was giving Phoebe the ABs I would use the syringe and try to just be over-the-top nice and bubbly about it... and quick, LOL! Sometimes she'd cry but I usually found that was because I'd done it too quickly and it gave her a shock.
BG: Loads of hugs, babe. So sorry things are so stressful atm! And so exhausting. I can relate to the sleep issues everyone's been having. Phoebe's pattern of late is to only have one day sleep (:o) then crash by 7pm. Then she wakes around 10:30 and is very unsettled until midnight. After that she may sleep for a while (the other night I got 6 hours in a row! WOOHOO!) but usually it's 3 or 4. Then she sleeps in til around 7:30, but Natty gets up anytime after 5:45. She comes into our bed but has never been good at sleeping with us - tosses and turns and carries on a treat.
Anyway, I digress! I hope things come together ok for the party - I am sure everything will be wonderful. Remember to take time to enjoy it yourself, and watch E and take plenty of photos!
Bella: I love your avvy too! Did you do it yourself? I have been hopping on to several dollmaking sites for 5 min stretches over the last week or so but none of them are very mac friendly!
Sorry to hear about your having to do things alone. FWIW I do know the feeling - it sucks big ones. DH was so caught up with work when Natty was small he just had no idea how draining it was to get up to her so often at night and then have to function through the day. Now he has a better idea and is more supportive. There is hope yet, babe.
LOL @ getting down to 10 degrees overnight! You are such a Queenslander ;) Things aren't much cooler here as yet, but I can feel winter coming with great trepidation. Phoebe has had a cold for about 3 weeks. I am wondering when I'll be able to take her for her 12mo vax - I just don't think she's going to be well anytime soon.

I had visions of her walking by 12 months but now I think she'll likely take a few more months to get there - she just shows zero interest in walking on her own.

[COLOR="rgb(153, 50, 204)"]Snacks[/COLOR] - I agree I would have thought quite common to get to CJ's age without needing antibiotics (I studied Microbiology at Uni and learning about the development of resistance in antibiotics in that really put me off using them unless absolutely necessary (unfortunately I used alot of medications in my teenage years for acne but really I think were unnecessary and may have caused issues with me trying to get rid of sinus infections and funny stomach sometimes)) - CJ has been to occasional day care two mornings the past couple of weeks - so I wonder if that has exposed her to more germs than normal - although I suspect with her is because she is now crawling so is making more contact with the floor and I have tended to be of opinion that a bit of dirt won't harm anyone.

Syringe hasn't worked too well so far - putting it in a bit of weetbix seems to work better - oh well 3 times a day for 7 days min, will be an expert soon enough!

Vic, im not doctor (lol) but id DEF say she caught it from daycare.... Jade started going 2 months ago and has pretty much had a constant cold since! and that was before she was crawling and stuff...i guess its good for them to be exposed to stuff but not much fun for mummys :(

i'm another of the "bit of dirt won't hurt her" opinion - so far it hasn't - and E has helped herself to handfuls from the garden at regular intervals! i would say day care is a pretty good target for blame - it's very hard to have that many kids together and not get exposure to germs she wouldn't normally have been exposed to Mum used to do FDC and it was quite common for the new kids to get really unwell from what appeared to be a minor sniffle (barely noticable) in another kidlet.

have taken half day off work today - headache won't quit and can't visit chiro til tomorrow, so am working first thing in the morning to make up for this arvo, then heading to chiro - i neeeeeeeeeed his awesome hands on me!! i think i've done pretty well - for someone who, from 17-29 never went more than 6 weeks without needing treatment (and for some of that it was weekly - stupid car accident as a kid!) - to go 10 months between the need for treatment is awesome! looks like we have some relief with the issues we've been having too. still won't be great, but good enough

Vic - I'm going to point the blame at daycare as well. But don't feel bad about it, because I'm sure that things like playgroups and mother groups breed just as many germs. I also believe that a little dirt doesn't hurt, and Kyson has decided to taste dirt/sand a number of times. In fact, at mother's group on day he sat in front of the sand pit and repeatedly went back for seconds and thirds of the sand, lol!

BG - So sorry to hear that things are so stressful for you at the moment. When you are having sleep issues, the last thing you want to add to it is financial strains :( I don't buy lotto tickets, but if I win the lotto (hey, I figure my chances of winning are pretty similar to people who actually DO buy a ticket LOL!), then I'll be sure to share the wealth ;) Have a good time at the chiro, and maybe you should refrain from telling your DH about your chiro's "magic hands" hehehehe.

Bella - Gorgeous avi sweetness! I had some dollmaker sites bookmarked for when I do my next one, but my stupid computer has died tonight and I'm reinstalling windows right now (I'm on DH's laptop), so I've lost all my bookmarks! It's good to hear that your DH is getting stuck into his studies, but it sucks that it means that you are doing all the 'hard' work!

Jacinta - I saw your photo before I saw your post and I actually thought your tummy looked quite small! In any case, I think it looks very cute :) I lvoe preggie bellies!

Ok, now to me... I'm officially PREGNANT!!!! Kyons's little sister is on her way! I'm so excited. Our one healthy little embie is strong and sticky :D My hpt's have been getting darker day by day, and today I had my BT and my hcg level is 371, yay! Oh, and my prog level was nice and high too, so I can stop using the disgusting prog gel, lol! Our little apple blossom will be due on Jan 25th (summer baby this time), and I have follow up BT's weekly for the next 2 weeks, and I also have my first apt and scan with my Obs on the 2nd June. So excited!!!

PS. Please don't mention anything on facebook because we're not telling most people yet ;)

unfortunately no we didnt do anything really...then she got her needles the next day....and as i popped her in the car afterwards i bumped her head on the car door frame! i felt so horrible :(

AFM DD is now at her dads til sunday (apparentlly)...i had a big disagreement with XPs gf about jades medication...she is on parachoc for constipation and shes trying to tell me she doesnt need it and 'oh well she goes to the toilet fine when shes here, what r u feeding her?' i dont think she understands she 'goes fine' there caus in the days leading up shes had her meds, then they dont give it to her and i have to deal with my poor screaming (and blood-y poos ) poor lil thing oh i wanted to slap her face right off!!!! ended up walking off not sure what to do...

annnnnd i may have a new fella, nothing official and i hav alot of thinking to do first (may be a thread somewhere asking for advice lol)

I am so sorry that I have been MIA for a while ladies, lurking around but having so many strong memories on our last 3.5 year journey I think it's really due to the fact that Aaron will be 1 very soon (OMG 2 sleeps time).
I do promise to catch up with you all, I am reading away but am finding it hard to catch up with so many things atm.

Anyway we have Aaron's party this Sunday so have been busy arranging everthing!!

TM - I bumped Kyson's head on the car door the other day too. He's gotten into the habit of arching his back as I try to put him in, and he arched it just as I was passing him through the door and he hit the back of his head :(
Oh my gosh, I am so angry for you at your Ex's gf! What right does she have to have ANY opinion about ANYTHING concerning YOUR child!

With regards to us knowing we're having a girl already, it's because we were having PGD (preimplantation genetic dignosis) done on our embies. They looked at all the chromosomes and out of 2 cycles, 31 eggs, 17 embryos (16 that could be biopsied), we got 3 that didn't get any results, 12 with chromosomal problems, and one precious little healthy girl. It is rather odd knowing already that it's a little girl, but also very exciting hehe.

Nic - I know things must be rather emotional for you at the moment, but that 3.5 year journey has resulted in an amazing little boy and you should be super proud of yourself! Have a wonderful time at his party and give him lots of "baby" cuddles the night before his birthday!!!

krystie: wow thats amazing! i have NFI when it comes to IVF stuff, yay a boy and a girl and she will be so gorgeous caus kyson is such a cutie!!!! and yeah she is a fair bit older than me and caus she has 3 kids she thinks shes gods gift to kids well i cuda hit her with a shovel lol grrrr

Congratulations Krystie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is wonderful honey!!! I am so excited for you darling! Also dreadfully jealous but I will have my time again so not too bad;)

Em- Sorry to hear you XP g'f is being a PITA. She really doesn't have any right at all. You know your baby best. I would detail for her quite plainly and firm but politely just how bad Jade is as a result of their neglect when she is with you and ask her to please just do what you have asked as after all she is a mother herself and therefore she should understand that a childs mother knows them best.

Nic, I understand your trepidation as Aarons b'day approaches. Jemima makes my life complete but memories of her birth will plague me on the day and I think it will be a very hard time for me. I will probably need lots of hugs and understanding on the day. So don't think you are strange. Beautiful things like children can come out of pain and suffering but it doesn't make the pain or hurt leave it just gives you something else to focus on. *hugs*

OMG Krystie!!!!! CONGRATS! So very happy to read that your little one 'stuck'. You and DH must be glowing with happiness right now! All the best for a H&H 9 months.


Also, some of you have noticed, I'm doing a big FB cull because of some serious privacy issues. Since I'm not in here so much any more though, I was dreading the thought of losing touch with you girls and missing out on all your updates on your beautiful kidlets. So, I've just created another account. I wanted to be 'Secret Santosha' but it wouldn't let me!! Instead I'm Santosha Bellybelly. I've tried to 'friend' all of you from my prev account but some of you have your privacy settings on so high that I can't (Bridg and BG from memory) ! Now off to change my sig. and do a couple of other things to protect privacy. I know, I know, call me paranoid! I just heard a bit of a horror story the other day from a colleague who's client looked him up - not good at all. I work in mental health and while 99% get the boundaries, there's always the one who doesn't!
