Just a quick one. Having a bit of a hard time with River at the moment. I know if I carry him around he sleeps, so that's fine, but even with that, the last few days have been difficult. I don't want to do the self-settling thing but am not sure what choice I have? He just will NOT be settled any other way bar being held, and then is very difficult to put down without him waking. Oh well, I guess we will persevere a bit.

I had to do the self settling as its just me here. It happened by accident and now he's bigger I close the door and make a cuppa, and he's usually gone to sleep. I figure he's crying because we're both overtired, and I don't see it as CC at all, we are classed as being co-sleepers as he is in the same room as me. They are more little cries than full on iykwim.
One night I managed to get him to sleep in his rocker, so I've also either put it next to or on the bed next to me as well.
I just think of myself, my Mum used more CC on me, and I don't know about that, but I do know self settling it does form a good sleeping habit. I think of some friends as adults who have trouble getting off to sleep..if that is the reason why they can't get to sleep?

Jacob keeps trying to walk, if I try play with him on the floor he gets cranking till I hold him up around his chest and then he'll smile and start putting one foot in front of the other. Crazy stuff. He can't even roll from back to tummy yet, or sit up or crawl and he's trying to walk! cheeky bugger!

hi all! been a while since I've been on Belly Belly and thought I better get myself sorted and start nattering in here wit you guys!!
for those who don't know me yet I'm Beck, mum to Susanna - 2, and Elizabeth who is nearly 12 weeks whoa!! she was born 12th May and is an absolute darling! second child definitely much easier so far! She has the dairy in tolerances that Susie had but nowhere near as bad, I just use rice/soy milk, and only have small amount of milk/cheese/chocolate and she's not too bad. bit burpy and spewy but nothing severe like with Susie (who screamed all evening till midnight fr the first 6 months!!) she's a pretty good sleeper too! usually does an 8 - 10 hour block at night, and prob 2/3 of the time has a couple of good naps during the day. always put her down asleep though, am a cuddle/rock to sleep mummy! frustrating occassionally but I know from susie they grow out of it eventually and you really treasure the moments in the early months!!
how's everyone's baby's weight going? Lizzie was 6.85kg at her 2 month checkup lol (10 weeks old), that was Susie's weight at 10 months! so first baby below the charts, second baby above the charts!! she'a such a cutie, gives lovely smiles, and loves to watch and smile at her big sis!
BBB how long did lil Jacob go before he pooed? Lizzie is a once r twice a week bub lol! first time she went 11 days I started to get a bit worried..but she had gained a lot of weight that week lol
Jim's weight is alright, sometimes he has pooed twice a day, but I was comp feeding him pretty much from birth. The more runny the poo the more breastmilk he was having. TBH the formula poos aren't that smelly, they are just as easy to wash off the nappy.
Mum minded Jim yesterday, so I went to Kmart. Surprisingly they had plastic pilchers there. So I have some BBH PUL covers and some plastic pilchers. I am glad I bought the hemp fitteds from BBH on the weekend as the price has gone back up (multifits). He doesn't quite fit into them yet, but I have bought those for overnight rather than using disposables.
MrsC, he only went like 12hrs without a poo, haha and I was worried! He tends to make up for it by having three huge poos in a row :P
I have noticed he isn't pooing overnight anymore, which is excellent, means I don't have to even get out of bed!! Just feed in bed, co-sleep, woohoo!
I won't have Jake weighed now till his followup vaccinations which are 29th Aug. He's fitting well into 00 now though so he is growing!

I can't stop for long, I am still packing up the house, we're moving this weekend, yay I can finally get it over and done with :).
Bree has been doing a lot better the last few days. She was really unsettled their for a bit, and in the end I took her off the losec and she is doing heaps better which is awesome, I was really starting to worry about her at one point because she was really unsettled, down to 3 wet nappies a day for a few days and no poo, then she had no wet nappy for a day or two, and also went off feeding, she went down to about 500mls for the day during her worst moments, but she is back up to speed now, having between 5-7 wet nappies every day, had 1130mls yesterday, and lots of green poo's lol, oh and she thinks its hilarious when someone has to clean it up lol.
I feel so lucky that Bree goes off to sleep with no problems at all. I woke her last night because she only had 4 bottles by 9pm. She finished her bottle, burped, changed and back to bed in 30 minutes. I put her to bed awake, but she seems to know now that when it is dark and quiet, it is sleep time, and she drifts off to sleep without any noise.
I put her down in her basinet just a short while ago, I was talking to her and we were giggling away, I was actually taking some video of her. Then I said ok time for a sleep, and she went off to sleep while I had the camera on her :) love. She is sleeping about 10 hours at night, and TBH I am sooooo happy, with all that is going on, I don't know how I would get through the day if I was still waking in the night to feed her...
I am taking her down on Thursday to have her weighed, hopefully her few bad days hasn't affected her growth, I don't think it has, she is fitting 00 well, and she is also wearing 0 too, they're a bit big, but I didn't want to buy heaps of 00 so she has to put up with it a little longer until she grows lol.
Now that she seems to be feeling better, she hardly ever stops smiling. even when she has her moments where she is clearly struggling with wind, she screams with a smile on her face lol, has a scream and stops. I use stomach calm if she is not settling again, but usually only have to use it twice in one day, other than that she is not been having losec, infants friend, mylanta or anything else I may have tried and forgotten about. She is still having small vomits, but I think she is starting to settle on her own with that.
I bought a portable cot from target the other day. So when we visit family, she has her own space out of reach of the dogs. Its great, it has a change table which attaches, and you can adjust the height of the bed. Had nothing like that 10 years ago LOL
My mum is taking Bree this Friday night so we can get all the moving done on Saturday without having to worry about anything. She is really looking forward to it.
Anyway, better keep moving, still got lots to do.

EMC - How are things with you?
Not much happening here. L still hasn't reached 5kg yet but I think she'll be tall and skinny like her Daddy. She's in 00's now and while she's not filling them out she fits them length wise lol. She's been sleeping great at night. She gets 210ml of EBM at 6pm and then it's off to bed and not a peep from her until 6am. So we are all getting lots of great sleep. My LC mentioned starting solids at the end of next month and I nearly fell off my chair. Is it that time already??? How time does fly. So I have some farex waiting for the right time.

I'm sitting out in the family room, listening to Jakes little sleeping sighs as he sleeps IN HIS COT in HIS ROOM!
We've been co-sleeping in the same bed since 3 weeks pretty much, and i've started putting him in his cot for day sleeps. Yesterday it was only 10-15min then he woke up upset. This morning another 10-15min (then the cat made a loud bang and woke him), and now this afternoon, he's been asleep for over 30min! I put him in there with the mobile on while I went to wash my hands after changing him, and got the washing out of the machine, made some lunch... then he went quiet, peeped in and he's asleep :)

Babybellybruton - I did my Avvy myself as well. Well kind of i had to get the mods to help with the background. 3 months goes quickly. Just seems like yesterday I was rubbing my belly and wishing to meet my baby. Ahhh time flies.
That's ok, hopefully someone will buy it this weekend (fingers crossed) at the time TBH I wish I'd bought a TV, for the same price, as the manual pump worked better for me.
I went to the Mother's group today, run by Child Health. Well Jim was the old man of the group, the next closest bub was 9 days younger, and the others were about 6 weeks old. I was looking forward to the video about sleep but all they did was talk about breastfeeding, of which I kept answering the questions!!
So I don't know if we'll go back next week or not. I think I'd prefer to try the Babies, books and rhymes session at the library instead.
Jim's going well. He is having real conversations and starting to vocalise more and more. He came back from Nanna's on Monday (after spending a few hours there) and I said did you have a good day there, and he nodded and was really telling me all about it!! He's started to make a new gesture for feeding as well.

I have been popping in here every now and again to see what my old Belly Buddies have been up to. I didn't want to intrude as my DD was born in June, but I've decided I will now that I've seen my fellow Baby Buddy, Bskilner, has migrated. lol.
For those who don't know me, I'm an Aussie girl from Vic living in Germany with my German husband, 5 year old DS and our new addition, Amelie, who was born on the 3rd of June (so she is 8 weeks now).

EMC - I have joined another mums group as I have moved, and even though it is all a bit familiar, the benefit comes after the formalities are over and you can just socialise! I am still in touch with my mg from Caden, in fact we went there today, but it would be nice to have another network of mums with bubs River's age. It can be a bit much, particulary the tummy-time nazis that say it is the foundation of ALL movement. Well, Caden hated tummy time, and walked at 10 months so I don't think he missed out at all :)
Porsche - LOL, yes we were all waiting and wondering, and now the three months have just flown by!
BBB and Gemini - I am so jealous of you both! I haven't had a straight 4 hours sleep since about 6 months of pregnancy :rolleyes:. I have just started getting River to sleep in his cot, but mainly have to rock him to sleep them pop him down. He will sleep anywhere from 30 mins to an hour or so during the day, and four hours straight at night but is still waking up for feeds. It is from around 2am onwards that things get hairy and he wakes up almost hourly. We have had only one night since he was born where he has slept for another three hours after that. I am making small changes to our routine so as to accomodate a longer sleep time. Tonight I will try soothing him instead of feeding him, as I think the comfort feeding just makes things worst. Plus I get no sleep! So yes, am insanely jealous of you lucky ladies, but will try that bit harder now he is 3 months old.

AFM - all good here aside from lack of sleep. I hate Tuesdays as DH plays sports and doesn't get home from work until after 9. I have to get both boys ready. I think I will adjust my routine to get River into bed by 6 and then Caden off by 7. Caden is really pushing the boundaries at the moment and between the two of them they do my head in! Anyone else finding this with an almost 4 yo? I know its the age too but having a sibling to share with is not helping.
As for weight, I will weigh River tomorrow cos I haven't done it for a while. I think he is fine, he is in 000s still but mainly because I don't want to admit he is getting bigger and almost ready for 00s. He is quite long too so the 00s fit length wise but are still a bit loose around the tum. I actually need to buy some warm 00s as all Caden's clothes were summer clothes by this stage. Ahh the joys of having opposite-season babies. Just when River will be heading into summer, all Caden's clothes are gorgeous fluffy jumpers and overalls :rolleyes:. It will be easier when we hit 1s + as he has a full year of those sizes.

Jim and his cousin Lachie are sort of opposite season bubs, Lachie was born on the 27th of January this year. Jim I could probably start using the 00's, but they would be loose.:
I will go next week to the Mother's group, see what happens, I didn't feel like staying to chat afterwards much today. It's not in a very good location, as the clinic is right on a main road, and there's not really any cafe nearby so I think that makes it harder to meet after the session at Child Health.
I just felt generally bored with the advice TBH. It's just getting a bit repetitive, the health workers just seem to regurgitate the same advice over and over...not any interesting tips apart from wrapping bubs. It was the same with the antenatal classes here, the ones to do with the Physio department were great but the rest, I could tell the staff were bored too.
Actually I was just remembering again, it's not only the same advice, but the same WRONG advice from Child Health over and over. Particularly about feeding, for example about expressing, the facilitator said to calculate the amount of milk your baby needs by referring to the page on bottle feeding!?? what the??
That doesn't sound right to me.
It has been quite amusing in hindsight the conflicting advice, not only that it is wrong, but also coming from the two or three different streams of the health department - one from the maternity point of view; the other from child health point of view, they either contradict each other, or are just completely wrong. I would hate for that be my sole source of support - it is not very good for new Mums at all.

EMC - The mothers group does sound repetitive. Especially if you know all the information they are telling you. LOL to answering all the questions. Maybe you should take over the class. it would come from real life experience not just a text book so to speak.
Drtagonbub - My DH plays sports as well but it's Tuesday nights. Can't give any advise on the 4yo my 2 are 8 and 10 and are a great help.

That's what I liked about the ABA group, as you have a wide range of Mum's in it, quite similar to our Baby Buddies group here. The only problem is they are extremely pro breastfeeding so I don't think I can go there.
Jim is having a massive sleep in this morning, he will be very hungry when he wakes up. I keep checking on him.
