Wow - everyone has been so busy! I can't believe how quickly time is passing by.

Emc- you have been doing an amazing job, and good on you for perservering with breastfeeding. It can be such a hard journey when you need to supplement feed, and people are far to quick to judge. Your story has reminded me just how little we know of other mum's situations when we see them out and about. We all put too much pressure on each other - which is why I love this forum, everyone is so supportive.

GG- I too have noticed Amelia is fascinated by lights. She loves to stare at the sunlight dancing on our lounge room wall in the mornings. Some times she even talks to it. I wish I could still view the world in such simplicity and aww. I'm sorry to hear you are having a hard time with the reflux. I hope you find a solution soon.

I feel so amazing this morning! I went to bed at 10:30pm with Jake, and he only woke up once at 2am before we got up at 7:30am!!!!
And his 2am feed was the easiest yet! Left side in bed, then got up to change and playtime, then right side in bed, some burping and back to sleep :)
I hope this is the turning point and it goes like this from now on :)

BBB Yay, see all that two hour feeding paid off in the end. Bree has done a similar thing, the day before yesterday she was feeding every 3 hours, drinking 200mls each time, she finished 6 bottles of 200 mls (1.2l in one day lol) then yesterday, she was fussing around, didn't finish not one bottle, only ended up drinking 750mls for the day... Hope you have got a good thing continuing now :) just remember, when he asks for frequent feeding during the day, it means, long sleep hours not to far away! :) Well done.

FarmGirl I wish we had some sunshine to dance around. Bree would love it, and I would too, I hate the cold weather. Brrr I think our winter is the coldest in quite a few years, yet so was our last summer too...

Great news... went back to the doctor yesterday, we finally (and I say finally coz it is a loooong story) got the losec for reflux !!!
I asked the doctor for losec I think it was about a week ago. He refused. I have taken her back 3 times in the last week and had a locum out as she has been getting progressively worse with wind and vomiting etc.
Finally, yesterday he decided to give us the medicine she needs, but rather than go with the losec that I had requested, he gave me some other prescription, which cost about $50. I didn't find out until I was about to pick up the prescription - from the second chemist, as the first one didn't have it in stock. I nearly went through the roof. I asked her if there was anything else that is the same thing but is covered on the PBS? Losec, she says... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to say I was mad, is an understatement.
I rang the doctor and explained the situation, they were going to get me to talk to the doctors clinic, but the doctor had gone home, instead I had to go back to the clinic and see a different doctor, who still made it seem soooooo hard to get it done. Its not for children under 1 he says. Well apparently all the babies are using this for reflux, its very common in newborns. Well we have to work out the dosage he says. Yes, well the first doctor had to do the same thing for the other prescription.
Both medicines are exactly the same thing, have to be mixed by me at home exactly the same way, everything is the same, except for the name and the price. But I finally got the script, and then they made me sign another medicare benefit form :0 how much money they have made in the last few weeks in appointments alone is incredible.
I still don't understand why they kept telling me to keep coming back - to see how she goes, when all that has done is trained her to be weary of drinking her bottle and allowed her to continue getting worse, she is fussing with her bottle out of habbit now. She did this this morning. She usually drinks the first half well, but then she gets a little wind and gets a bit of reflux and doesn't want to continue... Once she realised that her belly is feeling a bit better this morning after her big burp, she was ok. It just makes me so mad, not only the fact of the situation, but the fact that it makes me so angry. What should have been done by 4pm last night, took until 6:30pm, making dinner and bath time a massive rush, not to mention running the kids to training. I had to leave my dinner on the table while rushing around to and from sport etc. OK, I've vented now, sorry but I feel lots better lol

hi ladies,

we are going very well here. Been introducing Chloe to one bottle of EBM each day to get her use to the bottle as i have a wedding to attend in september. She fusses a bit, seems to prefer the tommee tippee bottle over the avent one. she roughly has about 100mls.

Sleep is going great guns ( hope i dont jinx myself by saying that LOL ) we have a bath, a play and a feed from 730 - 830 then we have afeed top up and she goes to bed. Sometimes ive even been able to put her down while she is awake and she settles to sleep herself :) and the last 5 nights she has slept till anywhere between 530 - 7am! So i dont have much to complaing about.

She is also getting right onto her side, so close to rolling over!

Jim's always been fascinated by lights and dark and light. At my parents he would look up at the ceiling at night time when I was feeding him; and since we got home, he loves to look at the fish tank, even though initially I had no fish in it, the light plays on the air bubbles amongst other things.

In the past couple of days Jim has been taking more formula feeds, but I'm not sure if he's "eating" enough. I have got some more Pigeon bottles from eBay including wide neck ones, so I just have to wait to get the right teat for them. I am going to use the smallest teats for longer to help with him chucking up. He ranges between being a small chucker to some reflux in that once a week or ten days he does a yellow chuck.

Hoping the baby probiotics will arrive by the end of the week, and I put in for a referral to the Infant Feeding clinic, but I don't know how much that will help with BF.

I am going to the GP to get some Motilium though, it makes me dizzy but worth a go to see if we can do a little bit more BF. I intend to at least keep up some BF simply to prevent my ex having any ideas about him taking him off on his own for a long time.

I have an appointment to investigate Mediation for a Parenting Plan; however I also need to get legal advice about it, I have heard with mediation, the mediators take a 50-50 viewpoint - so I'm concerned that it might take away from my being able to make decisions on parenting Jim even at this stage.

GG it is so annoying with doctors, I am lucky that I'm bulk billed, but sometimes they refuse to prescribe the simplest of medications or order unnecessary pathology tests.

I am using the Trixie Tracker website to track what I am doing with Jim, just to see if any useful patterns come to light from it. I am trying to use it for a week anyway. Some things I do get entered after the time I've done them.

Gemini_girl - How very frusterating for you at the dr's. If you've been back multiple times why would they nt prescribe the meds? I'd be finding a new Dr that's for sure. it shouldn't be that hard to get a script for an upset baby. No wonder they all drive mercs with all the money they get from unessecary appointments.

Bern - L is almost rolling as well. She actually did roll over on the bed the other day but I'm not sure if that's just a fluke or not haha. I think my bleeding was AF as well lol. Now I'm a bit worried I'm UTD again so soon. Never thought I'd say that haha. We use the Tommee Tippee closer to nature range. I find that sometimes the teat goes back into itself whilst L is feeding. I don't know if she's pushing it back or it's a thing the teat does. Otherwise they are great and I've had no problems with giving her a bottle of EBM.

EMC - I had mediation for our parenting plan for my first 2. Have you applied for legal aid? I'd do that first to get the ball rolling. I got legal aid for my mediation and it didn't take long to have everything all sorted and the plan in place. They do try and do the 50/50 thing but if you don't agree then just say so and they try and work out a compromise etc.... Some plans can take ages as the 2 parties don't agree on anything and that can be frusterating. Mine didn't take long because we bith knew what we wanted and we were already doing it anyway. It was just a formalisation for my divorce. Good luck.

Porsche Yes I will be looking for a new doctor soon. I am meant to be packing this morning as we have to move soon, not sure exactly when, but it has to be sometime before november, the sooner the better to get it out of the way. Also, I have had a few of the Avent teats go inside out a few times. I think it is because Bree gets so hungry that she just keeps drinking. The avent bottles have the colic ring to allow air flow into the bottle, but sometimes they don't work well and no air gets back in, and when she doesn't stop to let air in, thats when they turn inside out. Its funny to watch because she starts getting annoyed with her bottle when all she has to do is stop for a short moment LOL better go, she is a bit cranky, had enough of reading with DD2 lol

GG - I don't have that much experience as a Mum, but have been reading a lot on reflux. Jim doesn't have a full on reflux just a wee bit. Anyway dummies help produce a lot of saliva which is supposed to be good.

Porsche - Thanks I've got an appointment with the Family Relationship centre to start the ball rolling about mediation, however I do feel I need legal aid and further legal advice before the mediation happens.

Last night my Dad had a conversation with my ex, and his parents during the visit here. Basically apparently when they were harassing me during a breastfeed the other week, I was apparently feeding Jim while he was asleep!? Also my ex felt there was nothing wrong in our relationship, and the break up came as a complete surprise?! Therefore I apparently need to see a psychiatrist BUT he apparently wants things to be amicable! WTF So that is all not a surprise to me.

Anyway back to talking about bubs, so after a couple of days just got in a BF this morning, he was kind of asleep as babies are at this time of the day, so he wasn't fussing at the boob which was good.

I put the probiotics in one of his bottles last night but I'm not sure how much he got. I am interested to see if that helps him be less windy, less chucky. Also I have got some larger bibs to catch his chucks, even though they're small, they seem to end up everywhere but on the bibs we had. I also got a "bib clip" so I can make a tea towel into a bib as well, a bit exxy but very useful.

I have spent a lot of money now, but I hope this will help bubby. I am using terry flats though so that is a saving. I have bought some PUL covers as Baby Beehinds have had a sale so have bought a couple more small ones, some mediums, and some large. You just can't buy plastic pilchers much anymore.

Oh with the formula, I think I will eventually need larger bottles, although most of his feeds are 100ml still. I got two lots of Pigeon bottles on eBay so that was great - have got eleven bottles now, including six wide neck ones. I am hoping the wide neck will help with comping/switching between breast and bottle.

Ok must go and give Jim a cuddle.

emma - what do your x's parents think is wrong with BF Jim while he asleep, Chloe is always falling asleep on the breast but keeps sucking. As far as i know there is nothing wrong with that?

Jinxed myself by commenting how well Chloe sleeps cause the night before she woke at 1am for a feed, although last night she didnt wake till 430 which was good. Had a kind of a headache yesterday where everytime i bent over there was a pressure in my head like it was compacting everything in there... took some panadol doesnt seem as bad now..

My SIL went into labour last night, just got a text saying she has to have a c sect, cant wait to find out if i have another niece or nephew :)

Bern I jinxed myself too, after mY first great night with jake, 4hrs then feed then 5hrs.... Next night I work 7 times with him!! He was good again last night tho.

Em, next time they be stupid ask them where they got their lactation consultant accreditation from... Srsly they obviously have no idea what they are talking abt. The hormones in your breastmilk, especially the hind milk, make Jim drowsy, its normal and a good sign he's getting lots of fatty hind milk!

GG I haven't used any colic meds at all, over the counter or otherwise. Jake only has a bit of a cry when farting in the morning but a dummy or breast usually soothes him, guess I'm lucky this time. How you find something that works for you soon

I haven't had much to do with ex's Mum. Sadly she ended up feeding ex Enfamil, and there was something wrong with it and he stayed awake all the time as a baby.

They are alluding to that I was wanting to wake him up to feed him as they wanted to leave, but for some reason ex wanted to "hold and say goodbye to him properly".

But thanks for your posts of awesomeness, yes Jim was falling asleep, he was getting quite watery milk but it still made him sleepy. Ah maybe he was getting some good stuff?! Just a watery let down though.

Ex has said to my father he does not want any email contact so I have included the following paragraph in a letter about current visitation.

"Just FYI the hormones in breastmilk, make babies sleepy. I just think you need to know this, if I give you a bottle of expressed milk to feed Jim again. They also cause the hormone rash on their face. However it has a lot of healing properties to the skin.

If you want to come three times a week, I will leave it with you to make another timeslot, but you must get back to me in writing with that.

As you have stated you wish to avoid any contact via email, I would prefer that you only phone me between 11am and 1pm each day. As comp feeding and cloth nappies keep me very busy as well as trying to catch up on sleep at times. Any ongoing arrangements will need to now be put in writing as you do not want any email contact."

EM I would leave your phone off the hook/turned off at other times. I totally get the need of sleep thing xx

Emc - Does your ex take Jim by himself? If so make sure to get your plan done ASAP. If your Ex's parents get in his ear about taking Jim then there is nothing you can do. I don't mean to scare you at all but they seem like they are trying to find excuses IYKWIM. If you go through legal aid you can get all the legal advise you need and they will look after your consent forms etc.... You have to go through mediation to get your consent forms done it would only go further if you really can't agree to the terms of the agreement. Once your consent forms are done each of you sign it and it is sent through the courts to be legalised and then you both get a copy and the solicitor keeps the original for you. Also make sure you keep a diary of all comunication, conversations, visitation, phone calls, emails all of those with dates and times & what was said etc.... Try and also keep copies of all correspondence letters, emails, txt messages from him. I try and keep a diary for my ex because he is such a loser and he threatens me all the time. I think it's unreasonable for him to request you not contact him by email. I would much prefer to contact my ex like that. I don't particularly want to speak to him.

AFM: Well Amelia rolled over for the first time on Wednesday. She was so proud of herself. I've had a few interviews over the past couple of weeks, and she has been such a good girl to sleep through whilst I've been away. Even today whilst I was volunteering she sat quietly in her pram, snoozed a little, and chatted to my friends. Now she is out for the count and I think I'll be lucky to see her much before 6pm.

I tried the lactation cookies from this site, but I've not noticed any real increase in milk supply. Has anyone else given them a go?

I've noticed lots of you weigh your bubs frequently, just wondering why you do this? I've not weighed Amelia since her 10 day check up, but as she has regular wet/dirty nappies and is happy and content, I don't feel the need to weigh her.

then put into a percentile (3rd-10th)...

then I get lectured...

Yes it was, added a lot of extra stress to the baby blues!!! Thank god for BellyBelly and real mothers who told me that weighing is bullsh*t and those charts are 11 years old based on one study of one town in America and some are formula fed some breastfeed...

Jake has gone from swimming in 0000 to fitting into 00, so i'm pretty sure he's growing fine :)

Weighing, well somehow we got onto getting home visits from Child Health, so I can handle them coming to me and weighing him and the odd lecture. If I had to go out, I'm not sure if I would be bothering as much.

Well I sent an assertive "final" email, along the lines of blocking his email address, and so ex finally caved and became more amicable. I have now taken that opportunity to email him a long email, and put to him the idea of mediation later this year. We could continue with short term arrangements but it is best for all if we do the Parenting Plan, even though Jim's just a baby. Ex won't always be amicable - things go in a cycle with him. (Thanks Porsche I am printing off your comments most helpful).

Comp feeding - Child Health wrote a note to take to my GP. GP said she could write PBS or Private script. GP said she wasn't sure if I could afford private script and thought it would be too expensive for me but at the same time she didn't know the price. I said it has to be cheaper than buying formula lol (it does reduce the cost for me doing both).

Now on PBS you can only get 25 Motilium. ($5.60)
Private script you can get 100 Motilium. ($18)

Legally they can't write scripts for the same meds on the same day, the chemist said she'd have to destroy one of them. Anyway got the prices - and woohoo the private script works out cheaper than the PBS lololololol one dollar cheaper per pack of Motilium. And der you have to get at least 42 tablets to take them for lactation.

FG you can try Fenugreek, or get a script for Motilium or Maxalon if your GP will listen to you. Or google galactologues. And porridge. And no stress. At this stage we make milk as baby is feeding. (regurgitating advice given to me).

I am going to give the Infant feeding support program a go, just to see IF they do have any useful advice lol. I think we have tried everything though. With the comp feeds I am trying to get it down to have a feed at a certain time each day, but I doubt I would exclusively BF, I would have to somehow feed him and then be pumping for the nipple stimulation or putting him on me a lot.

I saw the rerun of Catalyst, we will be sleeping in the same room for a few years. Jim had trouble sleeping one night and I put him in his rocker on the floor next to me (obviously my room is warm) and he slept well.

Farmgirl - No I haven't tried the BF cookies. I've been having 2x hospital formula of sustagen a day and I pump twice a day. I have just started to take a supplement called "Herbs of Gold breast feeding support". It has the fenugreek and blessed thistle in it and is exclusive for boosting your supply. Its $33 a bottle and you get 60 tablets and you take 2 a day. My LC said it will take about 5 days to kick in. I haven't needed the tablets so far but because L is having my EBM of an afternoon (about 200ml) before bed I'm getting a bit worried I'm not storing anything in the freezer (gosh I am so so paranoid). My LC is a big advocate of trying the natural stuff first before moving to other things. I've been having L weighed every 2 weeks not for any real reason but just because I'm qurious as to how much she's grown etc... We've moved on to 3 weeks now so I'm itching to know how much she's grown lol. Thanks for posting that link. I found it interesting. I only co sleep if L is hard to settle. I can't have bubs in the room with me as I wake to every little sound she makes. It was very interesting about the SIDS risk though and I do worry about that.

Babybellyburton - I must say I have been guilty of letting my first baby cry himself to sleep. Being a first time mum and only 22 at the time I had no support from my ex husband and I didn't know where to go for help. So I did what at the time I thought was best to help me cope. Being an experience mum now I have learned a lot and while L does cry It's not to the extent I was at with my first. I have learned alot. I think controled crying gets a bad wrap. I did controled crying with my first because I had reached the end of my rope but I wasn't tought to let him cry himself to sleep. I was tought to go in and comfort with out picking bubs up. I hope that makes sense.

EMC - I'm glad my comments have helped you. I know the arguments etc... I had with my ex. It makes it so much more stressfull than it should be. I'm flexable with my consent forms with ex husband and we often swap weekedens and things but if things get nasty again (we have a cycle too) I just say nope back to the agreement. Ex has been more accomodating in the last 6 months or so because he got a new girlfriend lol. Wonder how long it will last though. I must say I think your doing a fantastic job with Jim. What with the ex hassles and your feeding problems. No not problems more like issues. I would have given up by now and would be formula feeding full time. I wish I had all this support and advise when my first 2 were babies. Things may have been so much better.

Bern - RE Tampons. I think it's OK. I was waiting for my first AF and then use tampons after that. I think it's just a risk after you give birth because your cervix is open and the risk of infection.

Thanks Porsche. I think this forum, and my Belly Buddies and Baby Buddies have been the best support. There's so much more support for Mum's these days which is great but you can get swamped with information, and tired of talking which is about the only downside. My family are supportive but on an hour by hour, day by day basis, I'm dependent on Google pretty much lol, oh and eBay and online grocery shopping.

I can't always pick Jim up either, everytime he cries. Sometimes he cries out in his sleep though. They certainly have REM sleep which I can see why it is disturbing. I suppose by the time I get to sleep though I am so buggered I don't notice any noises from him, unless he cries.

Thanks again for the further advice from your experience Porsche. Just what I am after atm.

BBB - you must have watched a different show, I swore I understood it to be controlled comforting, like you put bub to bed awake in cot an allow them to settle, but if they don't, you go in and comfort them. Controlled crying is somewhat different in that you basically allow baby to cry itself to sleep, and I am sure the doctor said that was really bad for babies (??). I did the former with Caden and after two days of grumpy baby, he learned to sleep on his own. I know even controlled comforting is contraversial as you are not meant to let them fall asleep in your arms, but it is far better than just letting them wail away for hours until they are exhausted. I did like the part where they said co-sleeping and baby wearing is good, as I do that almost exclusively :).

EMC - I live in the cyber world most of the time too. Although I did just join another mothers group, as we have moved since R was born so it is hard to catch up with my old group, even though we still do meet from time to time. I love coming on here when I get the chance.

As for weighing, I don't do it very frequently. I did with Caden as it was nice to see him gaining weight, but with River I can tell anyway, and like most of you, he is almost in 00s (but I don't want to take the plunge as I want him to be little for just a little bit longer ;)).

Tampons - yes these are ok to use once the initial after-birth bleeding has stopped, providing you have no pain from birth or other issues associated with pg. If you are bfing, you might need some lubricant to put them in though (the bfing lowers your oestrogen and can make the environment a little drier). I noticed "down there" changed a bit after having Caden and they were a little trickier to insert (sorry TMI).

Sorry to those gals having issues with Ex's. I know how hard it is just being married, let alone dealing with the additional complication of visitation rights etc.

AFM - all good here. River, at a guess, is 6.3 kg. Sleep school was great, we did some of that "controlled comforting" as I mentioned, where the theory was if I am providing him 5 star service by rocking him in my arms, perhaps a 3 star service of having me rock him and comfort him in the cot would be ok. It has had an impact, as in he will quite happily fall asleep in the car or pram now yay. He got the flu again just last week so that sort of curbed my plans to get his day sleeps in the cot, but I am happy with our progress so far. I know he can do it, and I always give him a go in the cot as I know it is an important skill for them to learn, but he will gradually get better at it over time.

Well, better go do something while I have two harnds free :)

Me too and it was the way they were saying it, didn't sit right with me, however it is hard to tell what they really might think. I think on TV when someone is edited, some statements come across the wrong way.

Someone mentioned weighing... I love getting Bree weighed to see how much she has grown, I always guess how much, and I'm usually not far off the mark.. It makes things interesting, and you can see how they are progressing. I had Bree weighed on Tuesday because she needed to be weighed before getting her prescription for losec, she weighed 6.2kg fully clothed. I am going to take her back on the 4th to check how much she weighs at 3 months exactly. I have a section in her record book to write down her weight every month. I have also been keeping a feeding chart since she was about 6 weeks old... I find it interesting to follow how much she drinks each day, when she is sleeping, nappies, I even tracked how much milk I could make from one tin of formula, worked out how much each bottle costs, how much she wastes from a full tin of formula.
Bree had a bottle at 8 last night and slept til 7am, the night before she had a bottle at 10pm and slept til 9am... I wonder if she has a bit of a cold, I was a bit snuffly myself yesterday. She isn't too bad, just a bit of a cough and a sneeze occasionally, maybe she is just going through another growth spurt? She has some days where she is awake most of the day and other days where she is asleep most of the day.
She is fitting 00 wondersuits well. I had her in a size 0 jacket this morning.
I have Bree in the lounge in her basinet during the nights. She sleeps better out there, and so does hubby lol. I still wake up as soon as she thinks about making a noise or before. This morning I woke up about 15 minutes before she started to stir.
Still waiting for her to roll, she doesn't like tummy time except for after bath time when she is getting a massage. I have tried tricking her into tummy time by rubbing her back, but she doesn't fall for that lol. She is too much of a sticky beak and gets annoyed that she can't look around when she is on her tummy.
She smiles all the time, tries to eat her hands, and dribbles all over the place, seriously she is like a dripping tap lol
Have been busy trying to pack, hope to be moving soon! The sooner we can get this done, the better.

Well I think the probiotic might be working for Jim, he went from green poos back to yellow, and he seems a little less windy, so we shall see. I have lost my bottle of Infant's Friend though, so it will have to work.

We are having good morning BF's, and I manage to express a small amount some days.

I feel buggered even thinking of moving GG.

Hope i can join you in here(i know VERY late)i'm origanally from the due in may group.I have a few of you on facebook but always forget to come in here
My lil man Kaeden was born on 28 April weighing 3120g,he can be a demanding boy but sleeps well of a night time.I'm feeding him on demand and mostly goes anywhere 2-3hrs during the day or just constant feeding some days and absolutely drains me.Spent some of tuesday night in hosp with him as he had croup-was put on steroids and antibiotics but wasn't showing improvement 3 days later,so i took him back to drs.She said his temp was good and he seemed to be breathing ok but needed to take him to nearest ED.Went there and they checked his oxygen levels and monitered the breathing asked me a ton of questions so was told we could go home as everything was ok.Just horrible watching/listening to his coughing.He seems alot better now
Someone mentioned about getting bubs weighed,we haven't got him done by the clinic since his 8 week checkup but do have baby scales here at home
