My SIL has introduced Lachie to solids early, but I don't plan to do it until Jim's 6 months though.

SIL and Lachie came to visit us today which was lovely.

I remember when Jim's circulation got cut off to his foot a bit with his birth, it was scary, my Dad was the most concerned about it but that was one good thing they did on the ward was to get his foot checked a number of times before we left.

Thinking of you and Jake BBB, I hope he is much better now. It's always so scary when things like that happen.

Just back from the doctors. I have been there so many times with Amelie these past few weeks. She had a navel granuloma develop, which is a piece of raw tissue in her belly button, a few weeks ago. So she needed treatment for that. This meant I had to take her to the doctors every 2nd or 3rd day for a couple of weeks. That cleared up, fantastic, but she needed to go back again today because the last hip ultrasound wasn't good and one side was out. So they checked it again today and it's fixed itself.
Do Aussie babies have a hip ultrasound done? We had one at the hospital, that was good, but then at her 4-6 week check up they found one side wasn't right. I had to double up on her nappies when she wore disposables to make more bulk between the legs, but we mainly use MCNs now which is meant to be really healthy for hip alignment... apparently.

BBB - I forgot to tell you. I was watching one video of Jacob on FB a couple of days ago - one where you say "Jake" a few times. DS must have been watching too because a little while later I was watching an instructional video for a baby carrier and DS comes up and asks what I'm watching. He sees the baby in the video and then asks me "is that Jake??" with a really strong Australian accent (he speaks German 95% of the time). It took me 2 minutes to work out why he called the baby Jake. lol.

Kaydee - woo hoo for Amelie's hip fixing itself. My niece had to have surgery and casts on for nearly a year. Her hip is still out as it didn't form properly and she will need a replacement when she gets older.

emc2 - how is Jim doing?? I don't plan to offer extra food either until P is over 6 months but she is looking at every mouthful that we have lol.

Well Phoebe is going ok. She is in 00's now (mainly for body length). Poor kid is going to be like me - long in the body and short in the legs lol. She might surprise me as she gets older and have long legs like her dad Phoebe is my only child to suck her thumb or have a dummy. And is she particular about what sort of dummy!!! Haven't had her weighed for a few weeks but I know she is putting on as she kills my arms now when I hold her to feed. One way I suppose to build up my arm muscles lol. Having a few problems otherwise here in the house (non Phoebe related) - but that's in another thread. Can't wait until they are resolved. I'm also debating with a friend about packing up the tent and taking P and her and going camping for a weekend. We just have to decide what weekend to do it and where to go

RE: Solids.
I was sooo strict with DS and didn't even think about introducing solids until he was over 6 months - he has no allergies or intolerances. I was always so careful with what I gave him too. MIL drove me insane and would always be trying to give him things I didn't allow (and she is still doing it with him). Oh the things I have to look forward to. I'm just so glad we live far away from them this time around. I'm not saying you shouldn't give solids before 6 months, it's just what I did. Every baby is different - some babies just don't get the full feeling from only milk. So just do what you feel is best for baby

Oh dear! I was terrified this would happen with Amelie as the doctor seemed a bit worried. So happy it's okay now!! Milly's doctor actually asked me who did the ultrasound at the hospital because she was sure they made a mistake with the first ultrasound.

We had extra hip checking as Jim was breech but it was all ok. No ultrasound though, just a lot of different doctors looking at his hips, and we had to go back to the hospital for an extra check.

Jim is smiling :-) I think he laughed in his sleep one day? But not laughing yet. All my neighbours want to hold him. The lady in the house next door is holding a little party for us next week.

I got the 00 clothes out today, he does really fit in those, I was still trying to cram him into 000's. I feel sad that he's grown so quickly.

I gave my SIL my Essence (ABA) magazines and changed my address for the subscription to hers.

kim & kaydee - my dd1 has hip dysplasia, 2 surgerys, cast for 13 weeks, brace for 1 year. Just had our yearly checkup and her hips are still underdeveloped. we go back when she is 8 and then they will do more surgery if still not right. I was so nervous have dd2, cause it can be hereditary. we had a scan at 6 weeks to rule it out. thankfully she has the all clear.

emc - im very surprised that they didnt do an ultrasound as its the "sure" way of ruling out hip problems, sometimes it cannot be felt by examination alone, as dd1 was only picked up by our gp cause she had uneven thigh creases, but couldnt feel anything wrong with the hip, so sent us to paedatrician, who couldnt feel it either, so she sent us for ultrasound anyway, and turns out her left hip had stage 3 dysplasia and her right hip was dislocated.

Jim has been looked at by oodles of people now so I'm just going with that I don't know how long he was breech for..it was odd as I had an ultrasound on the 11th of March - and I assume he was head down then. I don't know when he turned.

Hmm he got checked over a lot in the hospital, then the community midwives, then the Royal Children's, then my GP, then Child Health, then back to the Royal Brisbane, he's a lot of people feel his hips..it would easily be over ten times or more. Let alone checking his testicles

Hi all

It's been a bit busy in my world recently as we have had Rhys back at the hospital as he had 3 'stop breathing' episodes in 45 mins last Friday night. They couldn't find anything wrong with him so got sent home with some ReadyPred (steriod medicine) and told to watch him and see how he goes. But having the readypred on hand will help if it happens again as it helps to open up the airways for him the breath again before we can get him to the hospital - 35 mins away.

Both boys are still growing and as Rhys has been quite sick Liam has now become our big "chunky" monster weighing in at around 5.6kg's whereas Rhys is only about 5.1kg's but hopefully now he is starting to get better his appetite will increase. Both boys are still in 000 clothes, although during the day they are generally in pants and tops. I only dress them in all in ones at night, but not Bonds suits as they are too small.

RE the solids debate... I started DD at 16 weeks with Rice cereal and she never looked back and has no food allergies and will pretty much eat most foods now. I'm going to start the boys at 4 months as well as Liam is already showing signs of wanting to eat - watching us as we eat and making mouth movements at the same. I think Rhys might be a little slower to start with as he is behind Liam in a lot of his development but I take it slow to start with and will see how he goes.

Liam is really starting to want to spend most of his days sitting up if possible, he is extremely strong in his back and neck muscles whereas Rhys is still not fully supporting his neck as yet but if he is on the floor on his back he will roll himslef onto his side so I'm thinking he will learn to do the back to tummy roll before Liam. It is so interesting to watch the development between the 2 boys to see what skills each is learning. Oh, last night I had then sitting on my lap looking at each other and for the first time they started interacting together, talking, smiling and touching each other, it was very cute to watch. Both the boys also love the TV at the moment and also watching DD run around and play.

Anyway, I'm off to make a cuppa and have a bikkie while the boys are asleep and DD is in bed (I'm trying to get her to sleep fx).

Everyday this week Jake has fallen asleep in his cot for a little day sleep.
The party went well, DH was very surprised and I had a wonderful friend who helped me prepare all day. Jake of course was the biggest hit of the party! He is really smiling and cooing at people now, very very cute!
He's a techno early adopter like his mum, already playing games on my touchscreen and the computer ! Check out the fischer-price (sp?) website they have some cute peekaboo online games for babies, an animal flashes up on the screen and a noise when they hit any button on the keyboard.

ugh. DH been out most of day and wont be home till 10. am exhausted plus have splitting headache - mean mummy yelling at both kids for being noisy oops! DD1 in bed ast least, DD2 just fed and hopefully go to bed soon. so much I should do but I think once they both fast asleep I'm going to fold the clean nappies and then I go to bed too!!!

I've got a massive bruising on one arm, I am sure it's from wrangling Jim lol

I sold the pump thank goodness, only had one enquiry very early this morning, and she didn't come until 3pm. Then we went for a walk, and I forgot the bottle as I have to make two trips to get down the stairs. Luckily Jim wasn't hungry until we came back, we got the bus back up the road.

I put all the 000 clothes together for a friend at my old work, she's having a boy due in November. I don't know anyone else who could use them.

I've just been halving some of my belongings, to make more room in my unit, I've got rid of two huge bags (the size of those bargain shop red white and blue bags) so far, halved my hobby things (paint which would go off, and oodles of blank sketchbooks), half finished craft projects etc. So we have a bit more room now it's great.

Jim generally sleeps through the night in the past (nearly) a week now so that is great. He is smiling and vocalising more and more, he's an easy baby to read I think, he has gestures for when he is hungry and when he wants his nappy changed it's quite funny.

Kelly - what a drama hun poor lil guy, that must be really scary.

Kim - LOL about Pheobe being like you. I don't know about my boys yet, but both DH and I are fairly well proportioned, although DS#1 is taking over my stockier build, lucky he is a boy.

BBB - thats great news about the cot sleeping. I have just started "cot training" and River is on his "Ls". He is doing ok. Puts up a bit of a fight and doesn't really go from one sleep cycle to the next, hence some catnapping, but I figure first things first, get him used to the cot and falling asleep in it then trying to go for longer sleeps.

EMC - that's so cute about Jim smiling. River is full of smiles, particularly at ladies and men that look like teddy bears (like if they have facial hair ). he giggles too which is heart-meltingly cute.

Hi everyone else, sorry haven't been on a while so there is so much to catch up on.

AFM - getting better here. I hit a wall the other day with the usual 6 hour max nights followed by several nights in a row with barely 4 hours of very broken sleep. I called my mum in tears and she came along with my sister and looked after bubs while I got some sleep. DH is not very helpful, he just says "go to bed earlier" which is sound advice, but it is not the help that I needed. I want him to take over some of the night duties, not just ME doing it all. Luckily River has settled down a bit the last few nights and I have caught up on some sleep. He does'n't sleep through, not by a long shot, but will wake at midnight then around 3 and 6 but will go back to sleep straight after which is good.

Who has bubs in their room and who has bubs in their nursery? I am thinking of moving River to his nursery as soon as the nights get a bit more settled. It is a bit hard listening to him fidgeting in his sleep, I just can't switch off until I know he is settled. I remember with Caden it was easier and he slept better when he was in his room as I didn't jump up to settle him as soon as he whimpered. I would be keen to here how you are all doing it.

Ok, better go spend some time with DH while the boys are settled before I turn in "early" to get some needed sleep!

When we first went home to my parents house, we lived in the rumpus room downstairs so I had a small bassinette we borrowed from my SIL, right next to the bed.

I remember having those dreams where I thought I had left him in my bed and I would wake up looking for him, even though I'd put him in the bassinette!

Now I have a large bassinette, it's a Childcare one sold at Target, that I bought from eBay - quite large, and I'm still in my Queen size bed. When he outgrows the bassinette - I will probably get a single bed and he'll be in his cot, another eBay find. The cot has four wheels (which is now illegal!) so that will be handy and it's a small cot.

After that I am hoping we will get the government housing transfer, to a two bedroom unit..but there's always bunk beds lol!

I am not having any trouble sleeping from Jim's noises really, and I am usually sensitive to noise. We also have a good source of white noise in both rooms - the air conditioner in the bedroom and washing machine, and the fish tank in this other room.

Jim is not too bad a sleeper, one day he slept 9 hours (I didn't sleep all that time though!) sometimes his times are off but then that might be from me not being consistent. Last night I think it was 5 or 6 hours so 11pm to 5am, but he also had an earlier sleep that evening. One time he slept through but from 2am rather than earlier so that was tiring. Just in the past fortnight was when he started sleeping longer overnight.

I don't know he is my first - I think it can work well sleeping in the same room, I know I feel less anxious as he is easier to check on, he is just at the end of my bed really. I think also this idea of going straight to a cot, I am not sure about that.

Jim loves sleeping in his rocker, and the bassinette, they are cosy for him. One night he wouldn't even sleep in the bassinette, I just had him in his rocker on the floor, it's lucky that I have the reverse cycle air conditioner, otherwise he would have been very cold! I have him in sleeping bags too, I got cheaply from eBay for $1. I just realised I don't wrap him but it's sort of the same ideas.

We have the boys sharing one cot in our room. It is so much easier to get up when they need a dummy to be reinserted - and as I have to do it double time it is much easier than having to do multiple trips into another room. The boys will eventually get moved into DD's room (it is huge) once DH does the insulation in our back bedroom for DD to move into. We will probably look to move her closer to Xmas time as she is still in a cot herself so probably won't look at moving her until she goes into a bed.

I'm so used to the noises now that I sleep through most of them, it is only the continued noises that wake me up which means they need me to put the dummy back in. We are even getting used to the grunts that occur - DH puts the pillow over his head, but I love waking up in the morning and hearing the boys chattering away to themselves it puts a smile on my face and I would miss that if they were in their own room.

Emc: We also use sleeping bags for the boys as Liam is a kicker in his sleep (and every other time) so will always kick the blankets off and Rhys is a real squirmer so his blankets usually end up all bunched up in a ball.

Dragon: Hopefully R will let you have some sleep, the night my boys slept 11 hours in a stretch showed me they could do it so now they generally go to sleep around 8pm-8.30pm and get a dreamfeed between 10pm-10.30pm and will generally sleep til 6.30am-7.00am in the morning, and if I'm feeling tired I just bring them into bed with us in the morning when they wake for a snuggle and they will generally drop off again til 8am. I know it is hard but maybe when he wakes during the night instead of picking him up maybe just pat him and talk quietly to him to let him know you are there and hopefully he might settle again. This is what I do with the boys as it becomes a habit for them to want to be picked up when all they want is some reassurance that you are there. Just a thought but you can completely ingore it as you need to do what works for you and R.
