Hi Ladies, sorry I don't post in here often, but DD1 was born in May 09. She has started stuttering and I'm wondering if any other kids born the same time have done this as well?

Hi Marushke
DD has gone through phases as her speech develops where she seems to stutter for a little while. i think she goes through leaps in understanding and gets to the point where she knows what she wants to say, is excited to say it, but her ability to keep her speech up with her brain just isn't there. it seems to get worse when tired too. it's not constant though...
Hi Marushke,
Have never thought of it as stuttering but DD does stutter sometimes I suppose, is when she is trying to find the words to say something, so is always when using a new phrase or words, she never does it with phrases that she knows well like "What's that man doing" is always when she is processing something new, you can almost 'see' her brain working.
Thanks BG. She isn't getting stuck on new words, but simple word's she has said for years, like I, mum, dad. I think her brain is running faster than her mouth. Anyway, wondering how long to let it go until we see a specialist?
Maruschke - Someone I know on here is a speechy - but she doesn't come on often - will drop her a line and see if she can offer any advice.
Ta :)
My DS doesn't seem to stutter at all, but occasionally if he is trying to structure a sentence with a new word he'll repeat one of the known words a couple of times while you can see his little brain working out where to put the new word. Sometimes he'll get the sentence wrong and start from the start again. One of the things I was getting worried about was that he misses/skips a lot of his small words. So instead of saying "going in the car" it would just be "go in car". Often he misses "to" in sentences as well. I was starting to get a little worried, but in the last week or so he's started to put them in some of his sentences and it's putting my mind at ease. I still think he's a little behind in his language compared to some of the other kids his age, but I think he's still in the "normal" range so I'm not worried. He's loving the book "Merry Christmas Maisy" at the moment and there is a page where you fold down a flap on a christmas cake and there is a little bird sitting on the cake behind the flap. He loves to say "Come on bird, get off the cake!". Then on the next page there is another bird behind a flap that he obviously thinks is also a cake because he says "Come on another bird, get off the cake!", LOL!
Hey Maruschke, My DS doesn't, however my brother and neice (other brother's child) are/were both stutters. My niece stuttered from about age 3, my Bro and SIL took her to see a speech pathologist who saw her briefly, however she grew out of it as her speech continued to develop. I know they were always super patient with her and reminded her to slow down and think about what she wanted to say. She was always worse when she was excited or tired.
Anyway, if you are worried, perhaps make an appt :)
Nay, I'm soooooo happy for you. Congratulations babe. xx
Hi ladies,
Sorry I've been so quiet lately. Things have been a little stressful here the last few weeks. DH's dad has been ill for quite some time with a range of things including cancer and persistent recurring respiratory illnesses. He's been in and out of hospital a few times over the past 6 or more months, but just over a week ago he was admitted into palliative care. He once again has pneumonia and this time they are not treating it at all as his lungs are so bad he wouldn't respond anyway. Family were called in last Monday as he wasn't expected to make it much longer, but he is a fighter and he is still with us. He hasn't eaten or drank anything in six days now, and is not on any form of IV nourishment or hydration. He's literally just getting morphine and some mild sedation to keep him comfortable. We're being told that he is unconscious, but there are time when we can tell that he is at least partially aware. I took the babies in again yesterday (luckily they are young enough that they won't remember their Papa like this in the hospital) and he always seems to perk up slightly when we have them there. When DH told him that they were there his eyebrows raised slightly and he moved his mouth a little. He always likes to give the kids head rubs, so DH told him he'd give them both a good head rub for him, and he actually moved his head very slightly (like a small nod) and his hand moved too. So I'm convinced that on some level he is aware at times of what is going on around him.
I had an odd feeling all day yesterday that today would be the day he passed away, and I still feel like tonight might be the night. I'm really sad to see him go, but I'll also be happy for him when he's at peace. It's funny the memories that stand out in you head when you think about certain people. I will always remember how no matter how pregnant I am, or even if I am actively breastfeeding one of my kids at the time, he would always offer me a scotch. Not because he thought I would actually accept, but just that for him it would have felt rude for him not to offer. He's had an amazing life and is such a strong person. He moved his family to Australia from India when DH was just a toddler, and then helped organise to bring every other family member to Australia as well. Nearly every family member now lives in Australia. What a wonderful start he gave to the lives of his children and other family members ♥
