We had a really unsettled day yesterday with Abby. She wasn't settling well as usual and only really slept if on me and that was only very short cat naps. By 7:30pm last night she was so upset we took her for a drive to try and settle and soooo glad that worked and she was so tired she slept all night till 7:30 this morning. I wasn't too worried about her feeding cos she fed so much yesterday. Starting to wonder if it was something i may eaten that upset her cos she seems alot more settled today.
On a good note had her weighed on Monday and she had put on 140g in 4 days so she's doing well.
Lolpigs they say at least to aim for 8 feeds a day for a BF baby and 2 soiled nappies at least in a newborn.

Thanks Dan I'll keep an eye on it. My LC just said so long as your getting the weight gain and she is well your doing the right thing.
I am having unsettled times with Lilly too. Seems to be just before a BM, screams and cries. From what I'ver read it's normal? and she isn't constipated. Distressing :(
-
Lolpigs that's probably true. I got a friend on FB that feeds only 5-6 times a day and her bub sleeps all night so I guess each bub is just different.
-
Yeah I'd go with the so long as they're gaining weight and have plenty of wet/dirty nappies they're fine theory too - Alex can vary feeding anywhere from 5-6 times a day up to umpteen times a day depending on his mood, so I don't think there's any set minimum number.
I know it's early still but I booked him in for his first visit to the Dr today, for the 5th Jan for his 8 week check and vaccs. Wanted to make sure he could get in to the clinic I've been going to since DD was born, and even better, he's going to see the same doc too :)

CK, thanks for the advice!! The stitches are feeling slightly less sore today, so im hoping theyre slowly getting better! I know what you mean with trying to avoid the sting of getting pee on the stitches, its so not fun hey! im trying to keep them as clean as possible in the shower etc, so hopefully theyre not going to get infected.. they just hurt to wash too much so im hoping what im doing is enough! uhh, really the must uncomfortable place for stitches hey!
WIth breastfeeding / nappies, my bubs seems to be making too many dirty nappies! Probably like 10 a day?! and rarely are there any that are just wee. i guess its so different from one baby to the next!
Does anyone else's babies do sudden gasping breaths in their sleep? like real hurried breathing? it freaks me out a bit! Violet sounds really like shes gasping for breath sometimes... then it seems to go away.. maybe its her dreaming?! She squeals in her sleep sometimes too!
-
Weird breathing in little babies is completely normal. So long as they're not stopping entirely for any more than a few seconds at a time, they're fine. Apparently it's because their nervous systems are still quite immature and still getting the hang of regulating their breathing rhythms. And yes, they do dream too - some studies say more than adults as they have a longer period of REM sleep. Which makes sense when you think about how much their little brains have to process with everything they're learning.
-
Amanda I was just thinking the same thing today with Aubree's breathing... and was planning on asking the clinic nurse tomorrow when she comes out for her visit...
CK thanks for the reassurance :)
Being a first time mumma is stressful - So much to learn!

 Lilly monster dreams really loudly wakes me up crying out in her sleep at night. I must be frightened of falling asleep feeding her at night hubby says I panic in my sleep looking for Lilly
-
Oh poo. Alex has a gunky eye. Oh well, we're going to the doc tomorrow for our WC shots anyway so might ask them to take a quick squiz
-
Yeah lilly keeps getting that now in the other eye. I've been wiping clean with a cotton ball with a bit of BM on it cleared it up in the other eye. Its a pain

For any one that is interested :)

Hmm OK so looks like only supply issues I have are in the evening Bubs is OK till about midnight when she needs 30ml top up to get settled, think this will improve?
-
Definitely - look how much things have improved already!
Fwiw, if I was ever going to worry about supply, it'd be in the evenings. I know he's getting some because I can hear him swallowing, but the way he cluster feeds from about 5pm till 8-9pm I sometimes wonder if he's going to run out. But your body adjusts. The more you put her to the breast in the evening, the more your body will get the message that she's hungrier at that time of day and eventually will start to produce more in the evening.

Just peeking in
Mollie I will add you to the list soon, promise :)
Had a bad day yesterday and ended up an emotional mess. I have a huge split in each nipple which was making it extremely painful to feed. I made the decision to formula feed and express last night. Today my boobs feel better but I still see the splits. Should I wait until they aren't visible before going back to feeding? Ive also decided I hate bottles lol, way to much clean up and effort.
Last night was 3 formula feeds and 2 EBM. I also have 2 more EBM bottles in the fridge. I miss feeding him and our cuddle time but hubby loved feeding him.

 Amumma been there. My lc got me to rest for 24 hours when I had blisters. I would try to get back to breast after that time based on what my lc advised me, do you have one you can call? Make sure you don't hurt yourself when your pumping and you air dry your nipples with BM on them as much as possible. It will heal them fast. Is your attachment OK?
Thanks cK, yeah Lilly is doing the same thing then from 10-12 I don't seem to have enough. Hopefully the boobs get the message. I am pleased it is only i bottle a day now. I hear you Amumma about cleaning them.
I also had to buy a sling for around the house as Bubs doesnt want to be seperatd from me all afternoon and won't sleep anywhere else.
-
 Amumma!! The air drying with BM will help! You could also try a nipple cream called Lansinoh - I had a huge blister on one of my nipples while I was in hosp and the midwives gave me that to use, but the next day it had healed and I could feed on that side again!
So small freak out... Aubree had a feed at midnight, and then didnt get to sleep til 2am, but then she didnt wake up til 7am for another feed... Should I have woken her up sooner for a feed???
-
oh noes after bubs sleeping a 4 hour and 3:45 hour stretch she woke up after her last feed after and hour had both sides and dosent want to settle :(
Mollie my LC said to encourage them to sleep at night as much as possible and not to wake them
-
Ok I kind of feel better about it.. The clinic nurse is coming out today I will speak to her about it as well.. Although she will probably tell me the complete opposite and I will be all nervous about it again!!!
So how is everyone today? I was planning on going out this morning, but after the 7am feed, we all went back to sleep :) I think its because the weather here is absolutely BLERGH!
