Ugh, hot and sticky already and it's only 10am - and I *have* to go out this afternoon, got a Drs appt for DH and I to have our whooping cough booster and I want the doc to take a look at Alex's eye. Plus I still need to organise his birth registration and all that.
On the plus side, my ergo arrived today! I think I might use it mainly for shopping etc where there's air con though, as the newborn insert feels quite warm. Will have to see how we go.
Lilly has started refusing to go to sleep because she might miss something.. gah! Everytime she is fussing I doubt my supply. I hate that I do that.
finally got her to sleep after much protesting from her, 30mins of sucking time. the dummy is always the last resort but only thing that seems to work in this situation with her :(
It is cold and rainy here today, ocassionally it gets hot and sticky becuase of the humidity.
My sleepy wrap arrived today hooray :) So if she starts her usual drama this arvo at least I can get a break and she can get some rest.
I was going to go to medicare today, to hand in my form but because we had a bad night and she was up until 2am we didn't get out of bed until after her 2 night feeds until 11:30am after her first day feed.
I will have to go tomorrow. They are hasselling me about the forms from hospital. I sent off my forms to BDandM but still haven't heard from them either.
CK I love my ergo for out and about, and my sleepy wrap for home.

Ok do fed this morning with minimal pain. Hopefully it keeps up :)
Fingers crossed for you Amumma, just make sure she gets right on there attachment wise so it dosent hurt this was they key with making my soreness go away and healing mine.

Lolpigs We did the same thing this morning, after the 7am feed, we all went back to sleep with 11! Half the day gone! Oh well... Nothing like a lovely sleep to make you feel good during the day...
So the clinic nurse has just left... and I must say that I am pretty pleased with myself now that I know that everything is going good with Little Aubree...
So day 12 and she is weighing in at 3230g (so she has put on 230g since birth) She has grown approx. 2.5cm, and even her little head is 2cm bigger :) I had a really good chat with her about her feeding and she told me that as long as she is having 6-8 feeds a day, and lots of wee's and poo's there isnt an issue and she is doing just fine.
Its amazing how when someone who specializes in children's health tells you your doing a good job you believe it.. But when its someone else (like my mother) I still second guess myself...
The weather here has been a doona + couch + movie day.. Which is lovely because it means that I can have lots of cuddles with DH and Aubree <3

I have just realised Lilly has to have quiet otherwise she does no feed well. So I have to take her to bed to get a good feed.
AM it kills me when Abby first attaches but then is ok for the rest of the feed. My nipples are so sensitive ATM it's really not funny. I know attachment is ok as they describe that is ok but geez I wish this pain would just go cos it's really starting to get to me.
We had DS2 in hospital this morning for surgery to remove his tooth - that was super stressful but glad it's over now.
Well, doc says it looks like conjunctivitis rather than a blocked tear duct, gave him some eye drops for a couple of days and keep on with the cleaning with breastmilk. Looking slightly better today, hoping it clears up quick.
Went and did his birth rego so he's all proper and legal now :)
Dan I hope your son feels better soon. I always getsomepain at latch but not heaps. This disapates fast.

I had an emotional day, I had to give bottle twice, It was a weird day. I hope tomorrow is better. Gets me down :(
Ok so how do you tell if you have enough milk? He's taking both sides twice, sometimes only getting an hour between feeds. I'll find out today if he's still gaining or not but I'm worries he's not as settled.
Is he settled after feeds or still hungry? Is his output Ok?
Weight gain is the other way.
How I knew. I didn't have enough: baby was loosing weight not gaining not gaining (14% in first 3 days), baby would not settle after feeds and would still cry like she had not been fed (outside of afternoon/evening cluster feeding) her urine output was low as was her dirty diaper output.
A lc can check how fast your flow is and help determine if it is low or that is just the way Bubs feed.
Now when I feed I watch Bubs arms, the more relaxed they are an further away from her face the more satisfied she is. I don't time it or clock watch anymore.

Well Little Mister's eye is looking heaps better this morning - yay!
We made it through his first really hot day (got to 39 yesterday) without too many dramas, had to wake him to feed as I didn't want him dehydrating while we were out doing his paperwork and he slept in a singlet and nappy. Amused me a little while we were at the doctors, Murphy's Law says he will be unsettled and hungry while waiting so I settled down to feed him thinking we were quite early and will have plenty of time only to be the next ones called. So I stood up with him still attached and walked in - which made the docs and the nurse doing our injections laugh and the doc commented how nice it was to see me so relaxed while feeding him.
AM, is he finishing the first side before you offer the next? Sometimes it can be hard to tell, I usually let Alex feed till he pulls off or turns away by himself, burp him then offer the same breast again just to make sure - if he's drained it, he'll fuss and spit it out till I give him the other one. That way I know he's getting the really good filling hind milk.
Lolpigs, you'll probably find you have good days and bad days - but you're still going in the right direction, so try not to let it bother you too much on those days you still need to offer the bottle :hug:
Spoke to the community midwife today. He' gained 200g (100g over birth weight). She's Happy with that. I was feeding him wrong so she's helped with that.
Boobs a little sore again today, just airing them as much as I can.

Thanks CK :hug: hard to stay positive sometimes. Good news is she went down for sleep after her afternoon feed and that one has been a bit touch and go. Completely confident with over night and morning feeds.

CK- thanks for the advice re breathing- thats so good to know! I was worried about it, so it's nice to know its normal!!
So, DH's mother called and left a voicemail as I havent spoken to her yet (lives in Sydney) and she said "I just wanted to say congratulations on the birth of MY granddaughter" - I was SO angry I was in tears the whole night- how dare she say that, it's like, um she's MY daughter before she is your granddaughter!!!! How rude! And it was the way she said it too, possessive like. I was furious- she's always been really hard to handle but now I'm just so angry.. I haven't spoken to her yet and don't intend to! It might sound a bit like I'm being a bit dramatic but if you knew her, you'd know what I mean! Everything is ALL about her and she has such little respect for anyone else- I was thankful DH agreed with me feeling upset! Anyway she's trying to arrange a time to come to Adelaide to visit and I'm dreading it! She's very irrisponsible and I hate the idea of her even holding Violet! Uhh...
Does anyone else's baby have a nappy rash type thing under their neck folds of skin? Poor violet does and it looks very sore, so my mum got stuff from the chemist to try heal it- it's hard cos her head is always in a spot where air can never get to under her neck so it stays moist and gets sore!
AM, the soreness apparently goes away after a few days- hope it starts healing for you soon! I haven't got chapped yet but I haven't been feeding as long as you ladies, so we shall see!!
Sounds a bit like heat/sweat rash - DD used to get it something chronic, Alex hasn't as yet though. Tricky as it can be, try to keep the area as clean and dry as possible and maybe pop on a bit of barrier cream if you can. Best way I found was to lay them with shoulders on your forearm and head tilted back while your arm rests on a pillow as this exposes the neck area nicely but they're still supported enough in the head/neck area. It does eventually clear up, but may come back periodically especially in hot weather or as she starts dribbling.
And as for the MIL - ugh, weird? I'd be peeved too with that kind of thing!
It's meant to be heating up over the weekend. Will be interesting to see how he goes.
