Mollie crikey what a dragon lady of a MIL, if I were you I'd be outta there - your better than me. Yeh I got the BF supplement one hoping it boosts me more. Feel disappointed still cos this time round I had great supply but Abby just caused so much damage in the first few days that I just couldn't bare the pain anymore. Anyway we're at it again and i'm sure we will get there, I just really have to watch her attachment over the next week to make it is spot on.
Thanks CK & AM we'll see how we progress and go from there. I do know that when you feel full you've actually stopped making milk as such so I guess the more you empty the more you'll make.

I got an 8 hour break from Levi last night, fed at 9:30pm (bed at 10:30pm) he woke up at 6:30am. I had to express my other boob it was so sore. Hubby just got to feed him :)
I'm going to an engagement party on the 14th. It's a coc*tail theme. I'm unsure if I'll breastfeed Levi or take EBM bottles. To hard to decide lol.
-
AM great photo's they look really good :D
Yeh I don't know AM guess it depends on if you plan on drinking!? If you do and you feed ebm you'll still have to pump and dump then you gotta worry about a hangover.... Don't know if I could be bothered LOL.
-
Yikes Mollie, I would already have left by now. Gees..
-
well I would have left already, but DH's nana passed away two weeks before Aubree was born, and his pop is really sick, basically his kidneys are shutting down, and his lungs keep filling with fluid... So that is the only reason I'm still here... I would feel terrible if he didnt get to meet Aubree..

No I won't be drinking, it was more for ease but I'm considering feeding in the car.

AM you might be able to find a quiet corner to escape to. I find Abby doesn't like being out at night at all, we've only taken her out twice at night so far - first when she was about a week old and she screamed until I took her home and then Christmas night was the same she just wouldn't settle at all.
-
I'd go the quiet corner as well to be honest. Depending on the venue and type of party it should be easy enough to find somewhere to sit and angle yourself so you're partially sheltered
Took Alex for his first swim at the pools today - he quite liked it but got cold quite quickly so it was just a short one. DD was thankful, she loves her swimming and had missed going to the pools. Must've worn him out because he fell alseep when we got home, woke for a feed about an hour ago and went straight back to sleep.
-
Levi is so relaxed, if it goes in your mouth he sucks it. If he can get comfortable he will sleep, hes not worried about noise either thankfully.
-
I wish Lilly was that way, She was like that before 5 weeks but it is getting progressivly harder and harder to get her to sleep during the day.
What do you guys do to get your babies to sleep during the day? Atm i'm trying to do what tresillian recommend which is no cry, self comforting for 20mins ( put bubs down after small routine after her showing tired signs and walk out of the room, then only come back if she starts to cry, immediatley comforting back to calm while not picking up, if dosent calm pick up and calm and put back down again and try again) and if that dosent work then just patting, using dummy, rocking or whatever it takes to get her to sleep.
My husband is really struggling finding only the dummy works for him to get her to sleep, however I'm worried about it becoming a habit where she will only sleep with the dummy. Am I worrying for nothing?
Nights are pretty fine, she went from 8-12 then 12 - 6:30 it's just days that are the issue.
Thanks guys, getting a bit bewildered here. And staring to cause stress between DH and I becuase we are disagreeing on how to settle her. He thinks we should just use dummy all the time, Tresillian suggest only to use it as last resort. He is saying he feels worried about trying things now becuase he thinks I'm telling him he can't do things and I'm not.. Sigh..
Top it all of DD had a slight temp last night so was hysterical and slept in my arms from 8-12, I think her teeth are moving becuase shes been dribbling on and off the last week.
Fun times not :/ It just feels like a waste of time at this stage to be trying to do the self settling, she dosent seem old enough to know or care really. Should we wait until 3-4 months to start that?
-
LOL - we use the dummy :) Sometimes Z wants it, other times she fair spits it across the room!
My routine is ... Feed her, play with her, when she gets tired, I hold her in my arms until she falls asleep and then transfer her to the swing where she stays until she wakes up. I, personally, don't see the point in putting her in another room. She stays where we are at all times pretty much.
I also co sleep (hubby sleeps in the spare room while we co sleep, it works for us! hehe) and Zoe sleeps like a dream through the night! Went to bed last night at 9.30ish and she woke up at 4ish for a feed, then went back to bed at 5am and didn't wake up till 9am :) (she slept in the bed by herself from bout 6.30ish as Harriett was up already so I was up playing board games with her!)
With Harriett, she basically slept in my arms ALL DAY long as she refused to sleep anywhere else. But then, that could have been us being first time parents and we never had a swing! tis all a learning curve really hun.
Do what works for you, and honestly? I think us mums (specially first timers) read WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much info on how to parent! just go with yr instincts! they will lead you in the right direction!
xx

Thanks Nikky, I might try that I just feel like I'm being pressured to do all this stuff. I'll just go back to comfting her to sleep and worry about self settling later I think. Its just too stressful for everyone I think.
-
LOL - parenting is hard hun. And STRESSFUL beyond belief hehe. Just remember you are doing an amazing job! you are a MUM! and you are going to be tired, and cranky, and emotional and this can usually be put down to not enough SLEEP! so, again, personally I prefer to do what works for my bub, ie co sleeping at night and rocking her to sleep in my arms during the day then into the swing. She is getting sleep. I am getting sleep as well as during the day being able to give attention and play with Harriett while Z is nearby in her swing sleeping :) works for us all :D
Please do NOT allow anyone to pressure you into doing something YOU don't want to! EVER! she is yr baby girl and YOU know what's best for her and what's best for yourself :)
I promise, it DOES get better! massive hugs to you and yr gorgeous Lilly xx

thanks Nikky I really apprecaite it  I think it all started at Xmas when I had MIL, My Mother and Aunty all telling me I am doing it wrong, rod for back etc by holding her not selft settling not letting her CIO etc. It completely undermined my confidence and got me to where it is now. I refuse to do CIO as I don't belive in it, and it never really bothered me that she wants to be in my arms, however I did find recently that holding her to sleep then putting her down causes her to wake. Should I just wait longer?
I just had a heart to heart with hubby, so thankfully all good there now, He told me to stop listening to others and just do whatever works I know best bless him. He understands now why.
None if it felt right at all so I'm glad we got it sorted. I will just feed and play with her and when sleepy take her to her room and put her to bed once shes asleeep in my arms. I have a rocking chair coming so that should help me get her off to sleep in her room.
We just use another room becuase she tries to listen to us otherwise and wakes herself up, she is a cheeky munckin ;)
We have a swing too, I usually use it when she unwell, or cant settle gets her right off :)
 thanks so much
-
aww you are more than welcome!
Am glad you and hubby talked and got it sorted! Smart man for agreeing that you know what's best for Lilly! Well done hubby!! that's what we like to see ;)
Sometimes Zoe will just pass out in my arms, other times she kind of cat naps, either way I put her in the swing and she will usually nine times out of 10 go off to sleep or stay asleep :)
It really is a *play it by ear* kinda thing!
I am sooo not into the controlled crying crap (waits to be pounced on). I had babies cause I wanted babies, there is no way in hell that I am going to let them cry their lil hearts out just so I can get some sleep!
Even to this day, if Harriett cries in her sleep I will go in or Hubby will, to check on her and rub her back till she goes back to sleep. They cry out for a reason, even at 4 years of age. As parents I personally think tis our job to go and check on them!
Meh, maybe I am just an over protective mumma! but it suits me and our family for me to be one hehehe
If my mum, or aunt (don't have a mum in law) EVER told me I was doing something wrong with my parenting, well, lets just say it would be ON! like Donkey Kong!
Parent the way your instincts tell you too (repeating myself I know!)
again... Yay for yr Hubby!
:hug::hug::hug:

I'm with Nikky on this one - go with whatever works. They're still so little and the world is an overwhelming place sometimes, if she sleeps better being cuddled to sleep and you're happy doing it, where's the problem? Self settling is all well and good if your baby likes to go to sleep that way - I think so much of it depends on their personality. And even the cruisiest of bubs have nights where they want more comfort and cuddles. No one size fits all approach will ever work 100%, our babies are little individuals already - use advice that feels right and don't worry about everyone else's opinion. You're both doing a wonderful job :)
Most of the time Alex is either fed to sleep or cuddled to sleep. Only very occasionally will he go down still awake and fall asleep after a bit of chattering to himself. He also has his particular little routines and preferences - he's hard to get to settle at night unless he's either had his shower or a bath. Sometimes he'll be crying, hear the shower start and he'll stop crying but start up again as soon the shower is turned off to get out. Last night he woke fussing in his cradle, I got him up thinking he was hungry, got out to the lounge ready to feed him and he fell back to sleep on my chest - he just wanted a cuddle.

Thanks so much CK, I really believe my confidence was undermined to the point where I was second guessing myself all the time. I am happy to do it, I enjoy doing it I had babies becuase I want to be around them.
My Aunty told me yesturday she was manipulating me becuase she was crying in her cot during sleep time.. seriously? I said sorry I prefer gentle parenting methods for now. Sheesh. I don't hold anything against my parents they way we were parented but I dont want that for my children. Tough love is not always the answer imo, especially not with ones so young they cant understand.
That nap was so much easier she yawned after her feed so I took her upstairs and put her music on she loves, and she wanted to suck so gave her dummy and read a quiet story to her, and after about 3 mins she was asleep, popped her in cot and shes still there now. I'll go back up and remove dummy once shes fully asleep and its popped out.
:grouphug: I'm never doing something I dont think is right again. The scary one to stand up to is my mum, but I'll get there becuase she will take it as an insult to how she raised me.
