Wow, yay Lilly!! Bet you didn't know what to do with yourself :)
Nope LOL, looks like even if she is over tired, she will put herself to sleep with a bit of calming back patting from me. I just have to be careful once she goes quiet to stop, becuase it seems to wake her up again and she gets upset again LOL
I've also had to go to hugging her in the cot for wind down before naps rather than in my arms, seems picking her up and putting her down in the cot ****es her off majorly! LOL god knows why.
She woke once last night but just wanted some comfort, a few back pats and soft words and she went back to sleep till 6:30, I will start giving her the Farex regularly at her afternoon feed to see if that helps her.
I've also discovered she turns into a pumpkin after 7pm, if she is in bed a minute later than 7pm we get histerics. So bed time has to be strict LOL
Shes finally found a routine :) Shes sleeping alot longer during the day as well now. The 45min wake ups seem to have stopped, I'm thinking becuase she isnt looking for the dummy, she just suffles about and gets comfy again and goes back to sleep. Definate tummy sleeper however, Not much I can do about it, however shes in sleeping bags now and can push herself right up on her hands and move around the bed so I'm less concerned. I do move her sometimes as she seems to settle on her face sometimes O.o Funny child.
Hmmmmm...Alex seems to have turned into a right little terror to get to sleep some days - he didn't want to settle for his morning nap yesterday until I put him down with his toys and he fell asleep on the floor, then was awake from 11am until 8pm almost straight through with just a couple of 20 min naps. Massively overtired and giggling/thrashing and carrying on, which I guess is better than crying but still exhausting when you're trying so hard to get him to settle down enough to sleep. He's also waking at least twice overnight, about every 3 hours or so.
I'm not sure how much of his night waking is weather related though - we've gone from stinking hot all day and warm overnight to ok days but it's warm at bed time and cools down a lot in the early morning. So if I dress him in long sleeves and warm enough for the morning he grizzles because he's too hot and gets sweaty, but if I leave him in short sleeves he gets cold and wakes crazy early. I'm trying to mix between grobags and blankets, but don't think I've quite got it right yet...
Thanks for the pead advice! I was a little confused there.. Good to know its not really necessary unless there's a specific issue!
Lolpigs- ummm massive yay @ Lilly's sleep! Score! Bet you feel like a new woman haha. That's such a long stretch overnight- wow! How awesome! Do you reckon that mainly started since starting her on farex?
CK aw poor thing I know what that's like! The overtired thing is so hard to deal with sometimes! What you described sounds pretty spot on for us too- the overtired giggling and thrashing around the place/ yelling etc... I've found since making the nursery dark during the day plus putting a musical mobile above the cot helps me get violet off to sleep easily- but she still wakes after 30 mins and aside from one or two flukes, is almost impossible to resettle!
Question- Re baby's temperature at night, one theory I did hear for catnapping is that they will wake often if too cold- Our house is fairly cool at night- I put violet in a singlet, onesie, her swaddle wrap and then tuck her in with two waffle weave type blankets - she feels warm to touch, but when I take her temperature it's only in the low 35s? Should I be rugging her up more!?
Hmm I wouldnt low 35's is ok, do you have a warmer onesie you can put her in rather than more blankets? I guess you can try it. Catnapping is linked to feeding as well, so make sure she is having big feeds rather than tiny ones. Try only giving her boob when its food time so she makes the most of it? I dunno just a suggestion. Lilly struggled with that too and over time it just got better. I only gave her it at food times thought, not when she was upset or whatever that is when she got dummy.
Yeah I feel better, although I'm still waking pest ;) Nah I dont think so, seems this week everything has just clicked for Lilly. I have noticed she is eating alot more during the day which is probably why she can go over night without too much trouble. Most of the time she ranges from 700-850mls between 6:30am and 7pm. I dont give her the Farex every day, just every so often. In the next month or so she will probably start to want the extra so I'll start doing it more seriously.
CK that was happening here, I would have to change Lilly into something warmer at her 3am feed. Now I just use a half long half short onesie for nights like this and a 0.5 Tog sleeping bag.
Grrrrr.....Alex has seemingly decided his mid-day nap is no longer necessary. He fell asleep briefly but woke up as soon as I tried to put him down, and is now vociferously protesting being in his cot. Hope he falls asleep when we go to pick DD up else we'll wind up with another overtired crazy episode like last night
Growth spurt perhaps? Or did he learn something new? I know with Lilly she ALWAYS has crappy sleep when she has learnt something new. Even if I dont realise it. Also how are his gums? Lilly is still gnawing on alot so her teeth are still moving around.
Only things I can think of off the top of my head. I hope he stops protesting and settles down for a snooze for you soon!
)
CK I can synpathise with you as I'm in the same boat. The pumpkin has not agreed as I knew would happen. Back to the old, screaming with every feed, staying awake day and night. She's only having 60-70 ml each feed and it can take an hour.
I rang the paed and have an appt on Monday. I've been getting dizzy spells as the last 4 months is starting to catch up with me. I've cried so much in the last day. I hate seeing her in pain and she hangs off me all day. DS asked me why I don't like him anymore because I'm not able to give him attention besides the basics. DH feels sick as he usually does when it all gets too much.
Anyway just don't see an end to it all. Her reflux must be bad for all of this to be happening and I feel powerless.
Lol that's great that Lilly has improved so much. I think it has to do with her being comfortable as I've noticed with Jess if she's in pain it's impossible once it's controlled she actually sleeps by herself.
Amanda with DS we saw the paed for the 6 week check and when he started losing weight when he self weaned. If there are no major issues GP is fine unless you are worried about something and want to investigate it further.
oh Jan :( wish I could give you a big hug! or offer to watch bubs for you so you can SLEEP!
Jan I would stop solids if I were you, sounds like they arent working and tbh its all well and good for the pead to say perservere but he dosent have to live with the consequences iykwim. If Lilly had that reaction to the Farex, I would have stopped and wouldnt be trying again till 5 months.
big *hugs*
Got so frustrated just now Lilly had been trying to get to sleep for an hour and refluxed all over the bed 7 times.. not her fault but i called her broken :( sigh shes not it just becomes so nuts when that happens she gets so distressed.
Reflux is ****house. My poor baby girl :(
Jan I might be inclined to stop too mainly because if she's only have a small amount of formula that could be detrimental to her health. Remember breast milk or formula is there main source of nutrients for there first year if life.
Yep the ped said to stop solids and he will check her out on Monday. It's a worry for me as she's 6 months in 6 weeks time and I'll prob run into the same issues then when she needs to start foods. I think she needs higher meds but will see what the doc says.
I have an appt in may with a gastro ped that someone at ds' preschool wrangled for us as he only takes family of current patients. Never thought I'd need that appt but now we do.
Had a breakdown of sorts this morning. Too exhausted beyond repair. The dizzy spells are putting me at risk of falling or fainting. My body is starting to crack. My family have intervened and are practically forcing us to move in with my mum and dad until things are better. I too am worried about having a car crash or something like that as 2-3 hours a night broken is getting to be too much. Not excited at going to my mums. It's hard to accept how bad things are. But at least I have family that cares. DH can't sleep there as there isn't enough room for a double bed and port a cot. So he will stay until 12pm then go home. Then I'm alone with Jess until morning and my mum can watch her so I can sleep for a few hours.
Thanks for reading, just feeling so sad. I just want my girl to not be in pain xox
Oh sweet... Hopefully the gastro guy can figure out a way of helping her in the long term - you've had such a tough run. Accepting help from your mum may just give you that little bit of respite to keep going.
I think Monkey Boy has teeth on the move which may have been causing all the recent irritability. He's dribbling a lot, chewing everything in sight and seems to not want to feed properly unless really hungry - he pulls off and gets aggro. Can't see anything in his mouth though. He's also discovered his feet, he can grab them reliably but can't chew on them yet.
Oh Jan it's such a tough situation for you guys, all I can offer is a big hug!!
Just wondering though if her flap at the top if the osophagus (sp?) isn't working properly!? I know my SIL had huge problems with her son for ages similar to what your having. Either way just do as you need to get through every day.
super  Jan I totally know how that feels. Reflux is just the worst. Lilly's if flaring all the time now becuase shes wanting to spend lots of time on her tummy crawling. I really hope he can help you. A friend of mine who had a severe reflux baby like yourself, her son had to have an operation to correct his flap in his Ospephegus, perhaps something to consider? Although I think they only do it if they are failing to thrive, but still something to keep in mind.
So glad you have family who can help you I was about to ask if you did. You will feel much better with more sleep. Let us know how you go.
Ck, Yeah Lilly is like that too, they haven't come down but they are on the move often and she is pretty much the same. Lilly learnt yesturday why we dont bite our feet HAHA
Ha, Alex tries to suck his toes but can't quite reach because of his podge and chunky legs :) Talk about cute...
Oh Jan - that sounds like it has been so so tough and incredible that you've got yourself, your gorgeous little girl, boy and even DH through to this point. I think that has probably taken every single ounce of you and def shows what a brilliant mother you are. It sounds like it's def time to accept some help now - otherwise you're going to burn yourself out! Noone can keep that up. I was talking to MCHN and she was starting conversation re sleep schools as hopefully, the Losec has his reflux more under control and now we just need to help him break habits he's formed with his sleep bc of this..
Re solids- the reflux is meant to get better as they get older right? So who knows - in 6wks time her little tummy may be that much better at keeping things down and be able to deal with the solids better. Think how much they develop in 6 weeks and remember that is happening to them physiologically too.. fingers crossed. I really hope the specialist paed provides some support for you as it is that absolute worst watching your bub in pain. Interestingly a friends mum told me the other day that my friend had really bad reflux when she was a bub and screamed and cried heaps and as a child/adult she doesn't remember a thing and is a psychologically well adjusted woman!
What are people's opinions of controlled comforting? Eg diff to controlled crying as you don't leave bub for longer than 1 minute (just long enough to register you've left if they;re not responding to your attempts to comfort them). Its what the sleep schools suggest to help Gus sleep past the 45min mark. So the idea is at 45mins he wakes crying, needs more sleep but he FIGHTS it (ie screams!). I go in, 'shhh' him, turn him on his side and rock/pat him, replace dummy if needed. If no response after a few mins or so then I can either pick him up until he calms down, then put him back in cot (he'd start screaming again) and repeat steps 1, then leave room for a minute if no response and then repeat process. When rocking/aptting him in cot thye say to lean right around bub and cuddle/touch them anything that soothes them...
It sounds so hard but I so want him to be able to have longer day sleeps... otherwise he's a bit of a mess/tired/cranky/feeds poorly etc.
Advice?
Jan - How'd you appt go? I hope you can get some answers soon!
I hope all you ladies had lovely weekends...
Mine... Not so much.. Aubree had her immunisations on Friday, and she seemed alright just not really sleeping at all during the day, even though I gave her panadol.. Then Saturday she was back to her happy self, sleeping, and feeding great.. The yesterday OMG! I felt like the worst mother in the world! Aubree fed at 8am and then it was a struggle to get her to feed again throughout the day. I ended up in tears on the phone to one of the ABA counsellors, it was horrible.. Anyway she seems fine this morning, every feed she has had this morning has been great... Hmmm I have no idea what was up with her yesterday, but maybe it was her immunisations or something....
Most likely it was just the immunisations knocking her around a bit - I try to book mine in for early in the week so any cranky days are done and dusted by the weekend. Alex had a bit of a rough run with his this time too, off colour and grizzly for a couple of days with a mild temp as well.
Aw Jan, so sorry to hear how hard things are for you at the moment.. as hard as it wuld be to have to go stay with your mum, your own health sounds like its suffering without enough sleep, with the dizzy spells... so if your mum is able to help you get a bit of extra sleep then it sunds like it might be a good thing to do, even if just for a little while. No human can properly function on such little sleep, you poor thing, you must be so many levels of exhausted at the moment! Huge hugs, i hope they appointment went well and that you get some good answers that can help..
Aww mollie, what a yucky day ith Aubree not feeding!? How strange? Yeah my guess would be the vaccinations caused her to lose her appetite, or feel a bit sick, so she didnt want to feed.. awwwwwwwww you shouldnt feel bad though, you cant help her appetite.. but it wouldve been stressful thats for sure'!!
CK LOL Violet's chub stops her even trying to grab her feet!!!!! hahaha. too much leg and tummy podge in the way! hehe.
Well my little 4 month old is not so little... 8.8kilos! hehehe! big girl!!! we had the vaccinations yesterday, she slept well last night which was good and only had to give her panadol once!
So the fact she is now 8.8kilos means she has outgrown her love to swrap sleeping bag things cos they go up to 8.5 kilos.. im now not sure if i should be buying more in a larger size or trying to get her into a sleeping bag instead?!
I guess it would depend on how she sleeps with her arms free? If she still depends on the wrap for sleep, I'd get the next size up but maybe start transitioning her as well (it can take time for them to get used to). I've had to buy a few new gro-bags because Alex has grown out of the 0-6 month size - he's too long and his feet are right at the bottom! Makes me rather glad we got the car seat we did though, a friend of mine had to buy a new seat because her DD cracked 9kg but was nowhere near ready to be forward faced
K&G - I had similar issues with Lilly due to reflux and bad habits formed with sleep. I never pick Lilly up to comfort and put her back down she gets the poos majorly becuase she thinks I'm getting her up, better to comfort in the cot imo. I've done a little of that, but never timed it. Just left when she was calmer and went back to her if she got upset again. I just listened to Lilly rather than watch the clock iykwim? I don't think leaving them for certain periods of time mean anything to the baby nor teach them anything. I just went by Lilly and her cries. I never left her to cry only becuase I dont believe sleep should be traumatic. Is he waking looking for the dummy do you think? I know Lilly used to so we worked on weaning it the last week or so and now she dosent need it. My advice is dont make lots of changes all at once, just work on one thing at a time.
All I did to break Lilly's bad habits was, have a routine before naps and bedtime that was similar and stick to it. For naps its, check nappy, into sleeping bag, cuddles in cot tell her its time for nap, and if shes calm I just leave.
For bed time, its bath, pjs, feed, book, wrap, cuddles in cot telling her its bedtime and if she is calm i turn off the night light and leave. We used to use the dummy to settle, now we dont. To wean that we started at night time becuase she is sleepy anyway and her body is telling her to sleep and day times just happened.
If she dosent put herself to sleep or starts to get upset, I will turn her on her tummy (her favorite position) and pat her back and shush her until she is calm and leave again. I do this until she is asleep on her own. If she dosent sleep on her own (with me in and out to calm her) after about 15mins I stay and pat her off to sleep.
I found it was about doing what worked for Lilly, and not listening to recommendations from sleep schools  mostly because their recommendations are alot harsher, and while they work faster I didnt want to be harsh with her. this whole process took Lilly about 9 weeks. So it's no quick fix, but you will make tiny gains every day. Let me know if I can help you with anything :)
HTH
 Jan hope you are doing ok
Mollie I wouldn't worry, unless she dosent eat for more than 1 day, she will be fine. One day is just the needles. Lilly does that too, or goes through periods where she has little appetite. So long as it comes back again its fine. If she continued not to eat then you would take her straight to the doctor/hospital.
Yeah what Ck said LOL, if she is dependant on a wrap I would buy the next one, but get the love to dream wrap with the zip off arms if you can so you can start to transition her :) Lilly climbs all over her cot now in her sleep its hilarious.
I am going to have to buy new gro bags soon, Lilly's legs are so long!
Lilly seems to have settled herself into a routine, I've been staying at home alot recently to try and help her because I could see her trying to sort it out. What she still dosetn have sorted is her 6am wake up when she is still tired and wants to stay asleep till 7am or so (becuase if I get her up she is tired within 30mins or so) so she shouldnt be up. And her evening nap before bed, she tends to go down around 5-5;30 but seems to only sleep for 45mins which woudl be ok if she wasnt tired afterwads but she is. her other 2 sleeps are for around 2+ hours so its only these too niggly now.
Perhaps she needs to drop the 3rd sleep in the next few months and it will sort itself out. Hope you are all doing well :)
Lilly had pumpkin for the first time today, she loved it and tried to feed herself with her spoon. She now makes mouthing faces all the time when we eat and gets upset if she cant have what we are having lol.
https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...3-mmm-pumpkin/
The Avent Steamer/Blender is brilliant! <3 it :)
Edit: Just to prove me wrong she has started waking at 45mins, but I hear lots of coughing so I think her reflux is trying to make a comeback. Getting Dr to up her dosage.
Hope everyone is going well :)
Wow Amanda little Violet is getting huge.
I got no idea what Abby weighs but I'll get her checked the Friday when I get her needles done. I still have Abby sleeping of a night in her bassinet but she has her day sleeps in her cot in her room. We go away in a week so I didn't want to change a whole heap of sleep arrangements just before we go.
Abby is in a great routine, she sleeps all night then has a few day time sleeps and a larger afternoon one. We aren't onto solids yet either she's still happy with just the 5 feeds a day of around 150mls.
Hi everyone. Finally have 5 mins to myself loo. Levi is having a hard time with teeth, I think I'll try leaving this logged in.
Hugs to everyone having a tough time
Other than a short temper and being over emotional Levi's doing well with his teeth. He was meant to have his needles yesterday but they put it off until tomorrow hoping his sinus would clear (seems the top teen are pushing on them).
Edit: Levi is doing really well with his eating and has now had sweet potato, apple (which he still doesn't like), Carrot and pear. I have made pumpkin which he will try next week. He also has farex for dinner every night (made with 40mls EBM).
AM poor Levi.. Some bubs really struggle with teeth. DS1 was a breeze then I didn't know what had hit us with DS2, plus the lil terror wouldn't take panadol - took me ages to figure it was the taste not that he was allergic to it.
Also you could try and mix the apple with some sweet potato or similar if he isn't too keen on apple by itself.
Lillys reflux is bad again :( That is all
 Poor poppet, and poor mum! Hope it settles back down a bit soon.
I think it's getting to the point where I have to move Alex out of my room. He's nearly too big for his cradle and keeps waking himself up getting stuck sideways, plus I think we're waking each other up in the early hours of the morning when otherwise he'd just go back to sleep. So I went out today and bought a video monitor, and now that it's cooler I'm going to start him having all his day sleeps in his cot in his own room. After a week or two of that, I might shift him into his own room at night...not sure I'm happy about it or ready for it, but it had to happen eventually I guess....
thanks CK, yesturday was rough.
The pead didnt return my call so I've upped her meds to 2ml twice a day and she is now having 4 scoops of thickener in her feeds. Fingers crossed this fixes it. I wondered why all of a sudden she was draining her bottles every feed and then bringing up heaps. Then the coughing started, and then the waking every 45mins and then the constant milk smell and it went downhill from there.. argh. I hate this its awful for her.
Thanks CK :) i think ill have to get the next size up then cos yeah she waves her arms around too much if sleeping unwrapped - i had to try it the other day when one of her wraps was in the wash and her nappy leaked on to the other one... and yeah, she didnt go to sleep at all! WOW glad we got the carseat we did too, id have been so peeved buying another one already!!!
K&G, oops i hadnt seen your post! Ive followed the same process Lolpigs has described, and finally Violet is sleeping longer during the day!! I found though that if she got really upset in her bed, then id have to pick her up and cuddle her for a few minutes and normally have to rely on the dummy to get her back to sleep.. also i found the main thing that really helped was to make the room dark, cos before it was quite light in there, and to add a mobile with music... this all really helped her self settle initially in her own bed which i feel solved the problem a fair bit cos before, id normally have to rock her to sleep in my arms, then put her in her bed, then she would wake up probably upset cos she was in her bed and not my arms, then i couldnt seem to resettle... now, i put on her wrap which she normally protests about for a minute, then take her into the dark nursery, turn on the mobile, give her cuddles in my arms for 5 mins or so, with the dummy in her mouth cos i still have to reply on that, then i transfer her into her bassinet while she is awake - defntely had protesting at the start of trying to do this but its gotten heaps better, then tuck her in, stroke her face and kiss her, then walk out of the room, and half close the door - then, if she grizzles a bit i leave her, bit as soon as she sounds like shes getting upset i go back in, normally jsut replace the dummy cos thats normally the reason shes grizzling, or i just put my finger against the dummy if its already in her mouth cos i think sometimes she forgets its in her mouth once shes grizzling, stroke her face etc.. ive gotten it down from doing that maybe 10 times each nap time to often only once or sometimes not at all.. then since she has gotten used to falling asleep in the dark room with the mobile and music, its gotten heaps easier to resettle when she wakes up - mind you this did take a while too! but yeah, like i said, with Violet if she got / gets too upset i take her out, give her cuddles with the dummy till she calms down (absolute best way ive found to do this is to hold her facing my body, then have her face facing my chest and it sort of holds the dummy in that way with a bit of pressure against the dummy in her mouth, settles her so much easier than any other way ive tried) then once she calms down and looks drowsy again i put her back in bed... she was sleeping only 30 mins, and within the last two weeks is sleeping up to 1.5 hours, which is amazing for her! Also, ive found on a site called urban baby dot com dot au these things called sleepy wings, which hold the dummy kinda in a little pockety thing, it holds one dummy on either hand and if they lose their dummy in the night, they can kinda grab one with their mouths out of the pockety thing (pocket looks like it only loosely holds the dummy so they can grab it out) - so if Gus really wakes heaps looking for the dummy they might help? i am considering getting some for Violet cos i dont mind going back to replace the dummy during her daytime naps, but at night it sure causes lost sleep! Ideally id like to be able to wean Violet off the dummy but im still trying to get her sleep sorted in general so in the meantime they might help.. we shall see! They also look good for transitioning from swaddling too, cos i guess you just use them with a sleeping bag... im still toying with the idea!
Lolpigs, ohhhhhhhhhhhh sorry to hear the reflux came back.. i hope the meds your increasing helps..
Just a quick question as well, with the cooler weather (for most of us haha) starting, what does everyone dress bubs in? I still use a onesie with singlet underneith most of the time cos its so much easier than pulling stuff over Violets head which she seems to really dislike - ive got a few little cardigans and hoodies etc and some bamboo legwarmers that can go over the onesies... but it feels like im layering her up too much! Anyone got any nice warm onesies that they recommend? Or anything else? Most of the onesies ive found are pretty thin fabric but the really warm ones ive seen are the fluffy ones which seem a bit too synthetic?
Hi ladies,
Lolpigs I remember you started pumpkin, could this have caused a reflux episode? I know with Jess it has caused huge problems and we've stopped completely now. I've also accepted that until they fully outgrow it, reflux comes and goes. For me it's best to never think it has gone which I know sounds sad.
Pead has upped her meds to 15mg losec per day. Back on tablets instead of suspension. No food for another month. She had put on weight so he wasn't concerned about her reduced feeds. He said they have these 'breakthrough periods' where it gets worse before it gets better.
I'm at mums even though I didn't want to and can see now if I hadn't I wouldve collapsed from exhaustion. Saw my pysch as I was worried I was becoming depressed (had it with DS). Im not depressed just physically exhausted. She gave me a referral for 5 night stay at Tresillian. It sounds like bliss for me that's how bad I'm feeling. My body aches from holding her all the time and the screaming really hurts me. Have to be positive. Just wish the dizziness would go, prob will when I sleep more.
Yeah I think the food exaccerbated it a bit, but looking back over the last week it was progressivly getting worse until she was coughing so much she was waking herself up, next stage was the screaming so I acted before that happened. Yeah I've started to think that way too
The extra meds and the increase in the thickener seem to have done the trick, although her last sleep was still all over the place. See how she goes next sleep.
Glad you have the support there however. Keep up the water too, should help with the dizziness but sleep will help too.
It takes Jess 2-3 weeks to get over a change. We are now in week 2. I think her reflux is very severe.
Teething can cause a reflux episode too.
We had a shocker of a day with Abby yesterday. She screamed at every sleep time or when she was tired, in the end I had to put her to sleep in my bed with me laying with her and at her mid arvo sleep she only fell asleep from crying so much. Think she was unwell or teeth or something going on as she's back to normal today. Really through me as she will occasionally have a meltdown but this was all day.
I got her amber necklace on her today but I'm really paranoid about it when I'm not right there with her.
Jan & Lolpigs hope Jess and Lily improve soon.
Lolpigs – yes thanks – it’s kind of where I had gotten to. I couldn’t see that the little man would understand why I was leaving the room and coming back in… I’m really not sure what to do – it doesn’t sit right with me to have him crying so much but if I get him up after 45mins then by midday he is really cranky and overtired and all out of whack with feeds and then feeds poorly etc.. I’m hoping it will just start to improve by itself and in the meantime I will attempt each time to resettle him gently (eg replace dummy and pat bed etc) if he seems to need it. I am def learning the difference between all of his cries! These books that say no baby should cry if it knows whats happening and what it can expect have a lot to answer for! (breed insecurity in parents!)
And thanks AMANDA – those wing things sound worth checking out as I have also been thinking about how to transition from his swaddle (Lovetowrap) into a sleeping bag now its getting quite cold at night. He is actually usually quite fine at going to sleep the first time but wakes after 40mins and won’t re-settle for any more sleep.. so ends up catnapping all day but hey – maybe he’ll outgrow this?! Having said that he had disrupted sleep tofay bc I decided I needed to get out of house for once this week and went shopping for some winter PJS (those night feeds are cold!) and some more singlets etc for him – so he got a 45min before we left, wouldn’t sleep in pram at shops, 30mins in car on way home and at 4:30pm he has taken nearly an hour to go to sleep. He I think is way overtired.
What’s everyones favourite toy or book for their bub? Gus loves his Lamaze calamari (one of those ones that dangles with crinkly bits and a rattle etc). Also love the cardboard books like Where is the green sheep? Hungry Caterpillar and Dr seuss J
And Amanda – yes have Gus in a onesie and singlet. Have also bought some Target $6 kind of thicker ones to try and was checking out Bonds version of these too. I put a padded vest and beanie and fleece booties on him when we go outside or sometimes a cardigan. It seems to be all about layers bc they get hot so quickly too (espec in the car)..
Hope all the bubs with reflux are doing a bit better today and you’re getting some extra help, company and support now that it’s the weekend.. if you can – take yourself out – even for a 10min walk and do some relaxation (well it helps me when I can do it!) or just crack open a bottle of nice wine and enjoy a glass (even if it’s in the bedroom whilst your DP has bub!)
 Been there done that. I know how you feel. All I can say is keep perservering with it and he will get the idea eventually. Another thing I did with Lilly is if she wasnt too upset I just left her in the cot until 1 hour had passed and then lengthened it, but this was only if she was grizzling and I was in an out comforting her. If it didnt work I would just get her up and try again later. I wouldnt read those books if I were you. None of them will help you if your baby has reflux. Everything takes alot longer for them to adjust to. Is his pain under control? The reason I ask is if it isn't then this can cuase the 45mins waking. Its a sure sign Lillys is going to flare as she will start waking and crying suddenly all the time at 45mins. If his pain is not under control, dont bother with sleep training it just wont happen till it is in my experience.
Reflux babies seem to be clingier than others, and want constant reassurance. I found that by always reassuring her, she eventually learnt that I would come if she needed me, but her cot was a safe place to be if that makes sense? Just takes awhile. If I had left her to cry, it would have made her worse, I just went with my instinct and perservered. Read through the old threads I was at my wits end more than once LOL Dont get me wrong we have had sometimes when she is so tired and just cries and cries but its becuase she wants to sleep, not becuase she wants to get out of her cot anymore. She settles really well for me now, so working on her being comforted by dad, because thats still causing issues.
I'm happy to chat if you need support, they are a different kettle of fish those reflux bubs.
Edit: I am really tired, but I think I read that Gus has reflux.. if he dosent sorry! :D But still dont read those books they just make you crazy :)
Jess reflux is still out of control. Honestly don't know what to do anymore. Now I'm thinking the gastro Pead might be the way to turn. That isn't until May.
Soo over it for her and me. I just feel helpless.
Jan how come thats isn't till May? That just seems along time more for you all to be enduring this pain.
Abby weighed in yesterday at 6.9kg - steadily putting on weight. AF also turned up yesterday :). Notice my happy face LOL... means I won't have it while away on holidays yay me :D. I'm also slowly losing the baby fat I'd put on... 4kg in total so far.
Levi weighs 8.06kg now lol.
He did really well with his needles, cried while they were happening but fell asleep when it was all over with. Had a bit of a temp, panadol sorted that out. He was a very happy boy the next day lol
