Babies Born ~ November 2011

Heh, I did it with DD as she just started crawling around Christmas - straight for the tree and all the presents! It was much easier to put the tree and the presents in the pen and let her roam the house than try keeping her in one spot :) I figure I've got about another month or so before Alex starts, if I'm lucky - he's SOOOOO determined to get moving and is getting really frustrated that he can't quite do it. So we've started by putting the gate across the laundry door so the cat can get used to it as we feed the cat in there and that's where the kitty litter is, so definitely out of bounds for Alex. Once he's properly mobile I'll look at getting the pen.

CK I told DH about Alex grinding his face along the floor trying to crawl, he laughed :) violet does the same if we put out hands behind her feet so she has something to push off! Makes all sorts of noise with all the effort involved!

K&G- we tried violet out of her love to swaddle wrap last night- took about an hour to get her to go to sleep haha, but it worked! Her little hands definitely distract her! It helps if you have any of the bonds wonder suits it similar onesies where the hand folds over creating a mitten!

good news about the unwrapping, she will get used to it soon enough :) I can't cover Lillys hands she sucks them if i do haha

Hi girls and bubs :) Hope everyone had a good easter!

We went to the zoo with my mum, sister and sister's boyfriend. Had a lovely day, Alex got a big blue bunny from his Nanna and spent the day laughing and giggling as he rode around in the carrier on my back when he wasn't sleeping.

I also tried him on solids again after a couple of weeks break because I didn't think he was really ready - made all the difference. He just scoffed a quarter of a banana for lunch and is about to go down for a sleep (hopefully - darn wonder week has sent his day sleeps to pot again).

We've just had a massive working bee on our house as we are renovating and had an extra 9 people to stay in our teeny little home. the litt man coped really well and managed to have his usual 40min naps despite screaming kids and banging hammers so suffice to say I wasn't trying to get him to sleep for any longer.

CK - I have the funniest image of Alex 'crawling'. Gus is also attempting this but resembles a bug stuck on it's back as his arms and legs are all going but aren't connected to the groud. He will also push off my hands and move forward but hasn't worked out what Alex obviously has.

Amanda - thanks for the update re swadlle. great idea re hands covered. I haven't been brave enough to try the unwrapping yet apart from a 30min attempt for one nap where he just lay there playing but as soon as I wrapped him he went to sleep!

Well we started solids again today, the few weeks has helped here too, Lilly scoffed her pears this morning. Every mouthful grabbed the spoon and shoved it in her mouth herself so fingers crossed. She seems hungrier like the milk isnt cutting it as much now so fingers crossed.

Also decided to suck on a chocolate easter bunny while I wasnt looking yesutrday so she really enjoyed that too haha, cheeky thing. Unwrapped it an everything.


K&G it does take them awhile, Lilly still plays with her hands before sleep but she does got to sleep eventually.. usually 10mins tops? But it took awhile before she reaslised she could and her hands werent too much of a distraction if you know what i mean.

5 Months old today! And he slept from 8pm till 6am! Pure bliss seeing as the night before he was up 4 or 5 times - think the banana made a difference? Going to try some avocado today :)

Shh remember what happend to me when I talked about sleeping? :D

Lets hope he was too busy crawling at the time. Well good news Lilly is now having Breakfast Lunch and Dinner and while sometimes a little chucky we have no reflux!!! *dances*

She had mixed berries for breakfast this morning and thought that tasted weird. She likes pears and Apple and Pumpkin and dosent like carrots :)

Eh, one overnight feed and then awake and not really back to sleep from about 4.30am? Cheeky beggar heard me! 4.30am is way too early to be getting up for the day.

I'm not sure the avo agreed with him, might try him on some apple or pear, maybe with a bit of cereal mixed in. I'm going to do one "meal" a day this week then increase next week as his belly gets used to it I think.

But yay no reflux!!

Argh!!! The sleep gods definitely heard me. Little Boy had a mild fever all day yesterday, only way he'd nap was if I slept next to him in my bed and he took ages to settle down last night, then woke pretty well every 2 hours or so. Had a couple of big spews too, so I'm thinking something had upset him :( Seems mostly fine this morning though, so hopefully it was just a one day thing. Still going to have a quiet day today though.

Well as most of you already know... Miss A is finally home after a long 92 days in the NICU / SCN.

No more daily travel to and from hospital. Yay.

Miss A is nearly 5 months old. She's a petite 5kg too. And teething! (since about 3months actually...)

Lillys doing really well now on solids, shes like a shark with the fruit jelly heinz make i bought her as a treat, she leans forward and noms it off the spoon really quick hehe.

Alex is still phaffing about a fair bit, I think his being off colour and having an upset tummy hasn't helped. We're kind of just taking it easy, one "meal" a day still and not pushing it too hard. Not really in any rush to be honest.

Just this last week he seems to have almost forgotten how to roll over - but is concentrating super hard on his hands and feet. Funny how they focus on different things at different times hey?

Levi is feeding like a champ, I've started to mush his food now instead of purée, he's doing well with it.

He sat up unassisted for 2 mins the other day. I've also started to encourage waving and clapping.

Teeth are still giving him trouble but no signs of them yet.

Has anyone introduced meat into their bubbas solids?

CK, is Alex feeling better? Probably just his tummy getting used to it all! I like your approach of not rushing, I'm the same, I'd rather take it slow and ease into it all!

AM wow Levi sounds very advanced being able to do that!! 2 mins is a long time! We haven't actually started solids yet, planning on starting them this weekend when DH is off work as he wants to watch hehe. I'm a vegetarian so won't be introducing meat to Violet- will be using beans and lentils etc instead, and fish cos it's so important for the omega 3..

Hehe my little girl won't even roll yet, but she's such a happy girl so that's the main thing!

Anyone got any nice mothers day plans organised?

Yeah he's fine now - just wolfed down a fair bit of banana and rice too and is asleep :) Yay for a happy little girl - when you do start solids be prepared for a bit of gagging and carry on at first, and some really funny faces

Mothers day...hadn't even thought of it to be honest...going to let DH and DD surprise me I think

He can't do either yet (clap or wave) but if I see he is concentrating I'll do one or the other and cheer him on or I do it and hubby cheers lol. Positive reinforcement lol.

Im not sure what we are doing but my sister is due so I'm going to get her something from bubs :)

Ish, Alex has carpet burn all down the side of his face. He's so determined to crawl! Plus he's been really hard to settle lately and feeding a heck of a lot, think we have both a wonder week and a growth spurt in full swing at the moment - fun times.

How is everyone else?

Doing well here, Lilly is teething so bit miserable but otherwise ok. Ouch at the carpet burn!

Lilly is loving her Jolly jumper atm, spends a good 30mins in it now just bouncing in the air so cute to watch.

Shes doing well with her solids, has developed a taste for sweets now so veges are a bit of a pain but what can you do :) We are slowly lowering her thickener to nothing over this coming week to see if she can do without it now, shes been really good. Next step after that is the medication.

Can anyone else believe its almost been 6 months? I cant :(

I know, it's a little crazy how fast this year is going!

Tried Alex on apple and rice today, he wolfed it down :) Carrots tomorrow, he hated the pumpkin so will be interesting to see how he goes. Good to hear Lilly is going well and yay for reducing thickeners!

Haven't heard from Jan in a while - hope she and Jess are ok.

Well my youngest of the group baby is 9.425kg!!!!!! 68cm! Started farex 3 days ago- she's not a fan but no ure if it's cis of it being farex in particular or just solids in general being a weird experience! Going to try some sweet potato next!!

Well plain farex does taste like sawdust! Looks like it too, I wouldn't eat it. I use it for mixing with stuff like fruits and veggies - Alex had carrots today and kept grabbing the spoon to try and stuff more in :) We might move to 2 meals a day next week, probably lunch and dinner.

I got some calendula for the carpet burn today, he's getting better though! He can sort of combat crawl backwards, except that it annoys him because he was trying to go forwards! He does move a lot further now though, crosses the whole loungeroom.

Amelia is not crawling but she's attempting to and getting frustrated when she can't.

She can't sit up by herself yet unaided. However she loves to stand with me holding her. Her muscle tone is amazing as per the doctors.

The last time she was weighed, she was 5.5 Kgs, but I think she has had a growth spurt since. We will probably end up at the chemist today or early tomorrow morning.

We have a hospital physio playgroup just for premmies on Thursday (tomorrow) and I'm so nervous. Even though these people weren't in my due date group, I formed a close bond with them because we were in NICU for so long watching our babies fight for life. Cheering each others on and hoping they'd get off the tube feeds, ventilation, and out of incubators...

It's also the hospital I had Amelia in. It's going to bring back so many memories. Good and bad.

Anyway, Amelia has had tastes of solids, she usually has a couple of teaspoons at night plus her milk. Sometimes, when she has growth spurts she actually has more.

We've tried so far a mixture of pumpkin, celery and potato. And we've had apple and cinnamon, apple and mango, pear etc.

We have semi established a routine. Miss isn't a day sleeper, she catnaps. I'm trying to change that. She generally sleeps in 20 min blocks a few times a day. sleeping at night happens most nights, she has a 200ml bottle (her day feeds are 150ml) and usually solids before the bottle and sleeps from about 7.30pm until 4 or 5 am.
