Trill - this indoor pool is still only 12m long, but at least it is in a proper building. We went for a while to one that was basically an above ground pool with a shed around it. That was awful, particularly because we were still getting in with her!!
Missed your post before Cally - good that K is feeling better. We have the plague here - E seems a bit better but I think I have man flu :(
A few years back when I just had W, there was a lady that lived a few houses down that had three kids and she always had a line-up of extra kids around there playing and I was like OMG that woman is insane!. Then this morning my friend popped around and her DS wanted to stay and play, and I had already arranged a playdate for A, so there I was with a boat load of kids running riot and I realised that I am just like her! Crazy how life just happens to you!
And was it easy Arte? I reckon each of them having a friend over would be pretty good, less chance of the squabbling siblings if they have a friend.

I've never really been into mothers day, mum said she wanted to be appreciated every day not just one day, but i have to say i love that the girls want to make craft things for me and spoil me. I loved it. They made DH take them shopping and they picked all sorts of things for me too! Spent most of the day in airports and on planes but waking up to them jumping around all excited because it was mothers day was priceless. :-) Happy mothers day ladies.
I popped in to ask how you all go at bed time. I try to stick to 7-730 bed time but lately L is insisting we sit with her to go to sleep. Drives my barney when i have other babies to get to bed too. Any tips? Anyone care to tell me it's just a stage???? :/
Hi JM!! Good to 'see' you! Is it too late to send something for your container? Or has that ship sailed all ready, literally? We got caught short last month - our budget didn't quite stretch to feeding an extra two adults all month! But all is good now and I would like to send something if there is time.
We actually have a good bedtime here now. The kids all go to bed around 8pm. We tried earlier, but it was just causing trouble because they weren't tired enough. W used to need us to sit with him when he was going to sleep but the night E was born DH said he could pick any present he wanted if he went to sleep by himself for three nights. Shameless bribery but it worked! And he is a stubborn cookie, I thought we would be sitting on his bed until he was 23. He did whinge a bit at times, but we didn't give in and now he is very solid. A needed someone to sit with her as well until Xmas holidays when she was sharing a room with W and I couldn't be bothered sitting in there so I said I needed to go to the toilet and never went back in lol. By the time we got back from holiday we could just give her a kiss and cuddle and she happily chatters to herself and then nods off. Erin is a delight and generally just fits in :)
In summery: I think it is a stage, but you might need to push it if you want it to end itms.

Quietly chatting and going off to sleep would be a dream! i am pretty strict with bed time. 2 stories and bed between 7 and 7.30 every night. But still, every single time i get "I want to stay up, i'm not tired, i can't go to sleep by myself" regardless of how tired they are. Their eyes can be hanging out of their head and i get the same carry on. I never give in, so i don't understand why they persist. They drive me mad. I am not afraid to use shameless bribery, and in fact i have, but it doesn't seem to work! It did for a little while but now we are back to square one after our last trip to Aus. I figure all the travelling we do is a little unsettling for them but oh how i'd love them to go to sleep on their own.
I'm livin' the dream JM! I didn't think it would ever happen for us, those mythical kids that just go to bed but we got there and I am sure you will too. Have you tried the old "I've just got to do a quick (but totally boring) job, I will be back in 2 minutes" thing? Or a special bedtime activity book that they can only draw in at night? I feel your pain.
Isn't it frustrating when you never give in yet they keep persisting!! I seem to have given birth to pure stubborn :wall: A is making me look like a total failure as a mum at kindy - she screams and cries every time a teacher asks her to do something. Every.single.time. Looks like some sort of wild child that doesn't have to live by any rules at home!

JM: (!!!!!!) so excited to see you in here again :dance: hhmm bedtime in our house as a general rule is somewhere between 7-7.30pm. Miss M still gets boob at bedtime, but thankfully miss L has always just popped off to sleep :hide:

that said, Miss L has mastered the art of procrastination...water, toilet, one more book etc. we let her have a sip of water and of course go to the bathroom, but no extra books lol. i reckon the procrastination is a phase...i hope so lol
AFM: we are traversing Texas ATM. not much to report - lots of cows.
We have a 7:30 bed time. That is when stories are supposed to start, with toilet and teeth done by then. She is pretty good at just going off by herself, she's finally giving up the day naps so we've had really good ones lately where she's passed out during stories. We did have a stage where she wanted 'pats' each night. I would do it sometimes, but other times just say 'no, Mummy still has lots of her jobs to do' or 'Mummy's hip is too sore for pats tonight' (which makes me sound so old, but I just can't sit on the floor sometimes!). Anyway, I found she was really good at accepting it. Can you just explain that there is only one Mummy and what about the other girls and you can just check on her and pop your head in? Sorry, no other ideas.
Taking Miss K for an eye check next week. She's always been light sensitive (doctor and child nurse always comment when they flash the light in her eyes, but assure me it's not an issue) but lately it seems to be. She makes us turn the lights off some evenings (which drives me mental because I NEED light!) and is constantly in her sunglasses. Also seems to have had a lot of headaches this week which may be due to her cold though.
OMG at K just giving up day naps Cally!! W's are some dim memory and even A hasn't had one for the last month or two!
Hope you get the light thing sorted. W often packs it in if it is too bright when he gets up in the morning and will turn off the lights/pull the curtains. Very annoying actually.
n still naps on weekends!!!!!!!!!! But I think thats prob a muscle tone things - he gets so tired. He sometimes sleeps at kinder too, but that is ending! I think j may give his up in the next 6 months...

Thyr get up between 547 (yes 547 exactly) and 7 (rarely). I am teaching Noah how good sleep ins are on weekends - not v successfully yet but I can try!

not much going on here, same old, same old. another day, another babycino.
The trip was fantastic, thanks Ginger. For starters, you cannot possibly imagine the power of psychological freedom that comes from leaving your darlings at home and heading out to suit yourself for 10 days. Secondly, I spent loads of time nattering to my friends while I was there, which was very overdue for this hermit. But mostly, the masterclass itself was brilliant. Being taken seriously by a room full of writing peers has helped me to take my own writing seriously... plus BC loved my work. Like, really loved it. He gave out signed books each day to ppl he thought had done especially well and I kept getting them :redface:. So I now have avenues to bypass the slushpile... ;)
Now I just have to rescue myself from the ignomy of academic failure after neglecting my studies for too many days in a row LOL.
MD, are you just realizing that you are brilliant? Cos we have all known it for ages :)

Same old here too. There was a 2 hour power cut this morning so kindy was cancelled (no heat or water), but we had a friend over and then went for a walk in the beautiful sunshine.

LOL Cass, it scares me to imagine how dependent on tech our kids will be by the time they are teens.
I have A enrolled at kindy and have been leaving her there solo for a couple of hours to bring E home for a nap which means I get a good couple of hours all to myself :) It has been great. I haven't really had that before because the other two were not very good day sleepers. It is very refreshing to have some time to do some study, or a bit of housework, or just watching crappy daytime T.V (16 and pregnant is like a car wreak you just can't look away from!).

Trill, I'm in the final week-ish of the semester and feeling the heat too. But the end is nigh - at least for a couple of weeks anyway. How many subjects are you doing? How far are you through the course?
Cally, how did K's eye check go? I really need to take my girls for their checks too.
JM I missed your post at the time - have you tried the good ole sticker chart? It can work wonders - sometimes, with some things, anyway. Esp with a very-wanted reward at the end of hte chart.
Speaking of very-wanted things, miss E has discovered the shopping brochures in a big way! LOL The objet du desir changes as frequently as the catalogues do. Funny the things that appeal to them, she was hot on Monster High dolls about a month ago, talked about them every day for about a fortnight, but it seems to have worn off now. Funnily enough she's never seen the show (which I understand is only online?)
Got the telly on at the moment (BH&G)- I would soooo love to go to the Chelsea flower show!

We are leaving for Italia on the 5th of June. it seems so close and yet so far away hahaha. we are starting our road trip back to smelly LA today. but i am looking forward to seeing the rockies and checking out the mormon state (Utah) lol. i have seen lots of 'big love' off the compound people even here in Kansas, so i can only imagine what it is like in Utah. then we are off to Zion National park for a bit of a flashy resort break before las vegas and LA...
Miss L also is obsessed with catalogues. target ones are her favourite :)
MD, A is loving kindy and it is really helping her be more independent and not such a baby - she is trying to do loads more stuff instead of her traditional half-assed attempt followed by a heap of bellowing lol. Yeah, still plodding along with the study. I am still only on my half way paper. I would have been finished by the end of this year, but E has caused a 2 year delay. But never mind, she is worth it.
Cass, how exciting! 5th of June is not far away. Is your DH working over there or is it a family visit thing? Are apples in season atm lol? How is everything going pregnancy wise? I really hope the MS has cleared up for you with all that driving you guys have been doing!
I think I saw some Monster High stuff in the shop but I have no idea what it is about. W is currently into Ben 10 and Ninjago, which are good choices - I like them too :)

All is well here - dh has a few overseas work trips coming up so difficult month or 2 ahead (3 trips of around a week each).. Have also been booking holidays though so that is something to loom forward to. Going to Byron w mum end of September and then dh and I are off to Phuket kid free next march for our 10 yr wedding anniversary (been together 15 though). Yay!. And looking for a beach house for 2 weeks at Xmas. And there's goes my annual leave!

MP - your holidays always sound so good. At the moment my only plans are a week with my parents (and K) on my aunts dairy farm. Not quite up to what you do!

Miss K had a sleepover with MIL last night so we had a grown up dinner out. Very nice too. That first hour with her back home though is a bit of a shock to the system - the constant talking, requests to dance etc etc. Was a very quiet morning here!

Cass, did you have 'lazy eye' as a child that was corrected by a patch?
Arte: yep. i had to wear my pirate eye patch haha. unfortunately it wasnt fully corrected. apparently it really should of been zapped with a laser and a small operation (but mine was quite severe). i still get a slight turn when i am incredibly tired.
Cally: ahhhh yes and no lol! i wish that i knew that things would go smoothly on the plane. i have read reviews and swiss air are meant to be quite good, but we got sooo lucky with qantas and scoring a free seat that i know that i will be disappointed when miss M has to sit on my lap haha.

AFM: we are all good. decided to stay an extra night in Las Vegas as it was dirt cheap and totally awesome. only $50 a night in this massive hotel room lounge kitchen full sized bathroom and separate toilet! and it is poolside so the girls are living the dream hahaha. then tomorrow we are back in smelly old LA for a week before flying out! YIPPPPEEEEEE!!!
Cass, I was just reading about vision development and it made me think of you - apparently to develop stereo vision you need input from both eyes at the same time. While patching corrects the lazy eye, it causes some neurons to respond only to the dominant eye when unpatched and the lazy eye when the patch is on so they don't learn to respond to images from both eyes simultaneously and so you end up with mono vision (I remember you posting you had mono vision a few weeks back). Of course it depends on the age and length of time the eye was patched for, and there isn't really a better alternative so patching it is :)
Turns out that psychology isn't that cabbage after all.

I am reminded again how lucky we have been in this group to have a bunch of perfectly healthy babies. I just spent this afternoon visiting a friend with a 5 month old bub that cries all day. No exaggeration, she cries constantly every minute she is awake. She has some good days, but while I was there today she went for three hours solid until she cried herself to sleep. I nearly cried myself watching her, it is just heartbreaking. Poor mum has to deal with it constantly with no way to soothe the baby. I feel like I dropped the ball on this, I knew that K had a baby that cried a lot but I had no idea of the extent of it and we just said hello in passing for a few months. I can't imagine how draining it is for her :( She has no family in NZ. I have offered to take bub for a couple of hours so she can have a breather, not sure if she will want to leave her though. Her DS and W are best buddies (except when they aren't lol).
She is in the process of testing - baby has some physical delays too. Poor little chook. I really hope they can find something fixable.
Anyway, so it really makes me so very thankful that I have three wonderfully healthy children. Sorry to dump that in here.
oh Arte: :hug: we have been truly lucky in many many ways, including to have eachother to voice worries and concerns with and reach out.
AFM: well i managed to finally work out how to sorta make an avatar lol. we are in our final days here in LA. there is some sadness that this part of the adventure is over but am so happy to be starting the italian one (please, remind of these words when we are actually in italy and the usual family dramas overtake everything hahaha). i am so looking forward to getting home as well and getting all settled again too ITMS. look forward to my own bed and the girls being in their own room.

Our thread is dying :( I understand that everyone is busy, but I still miss you guys.
I would post more but it is like the Arte show and I don't really have anything to report. Going though one of those patches where everything seems to be broken. Can't get the diesel heating working, the oven is broken, the heat pump died last night and the washing machine isn't working right. The guy that came to look at the heat pump must have felt sorry for us because he kindly came back half an hour later with an oil heater for us to borrow. Still colder than a frogs tit though!
We had a pajama day at kindy which was fun. W asked when the next dress up day is and I had to tell him there are no more for him - he is at school before the next one! It is coming up quickly, only 3 months away now. He is going great at kindy again. He is going through a maths thing atm. I keep finding bits of paper with numbers written all over it - the other day I found 1 to 25 (map co-ordinates apparently) which went with a massive map that he drew of town - spent 1.5 hours at kindy drawing it.
Best go and thaw out my frozen, numb toes in my nicely heated bed :) Hope everyone is well.

we had a sleepover on friday night where the boys and i slept over at a friend's house with her two DDs. it was hilarious. they had the best time, hiding in cupboards and just generally running riot. somehow i ended up sleeping in a bed with my 2 boys and a girl who insisted on sleeping with L. very squashy so i didn't get much sleep. it was a great time though. then we went and met two of the contestants from the block at mitre 10. the kids absolutely loved it and got their faces painted and photos with the couple.
yep not long till school now. it is freaking me out a little :(
arte- did you end up ever getting hold of any maths books/activities for W to do? i ask because J is really into maths and numbers and is always asking me to write things down on paper for him etc.
I'm still here, just not much to report. Enjoying a long weekend, had a great walk/ride yesterday although I got left behind as I couldn't keep up with the speedy rider (I've got a sore hip and a dodgy ankle at the moment). Another walk this morning, finding all the trees which blew over in the big storm on Tuesday.
Work is quieting down which is quite nice for a while, seems to have been crazy for years.
K has really got into letters lately. Just writes all the time, constantly asking how to spell things. Spent the whole drive yesterday calling out speed limit signs - was a bendy road so lots of corners with those yellow advisory speeds on them. I was getting a bit over it after a while!
Arte - have you had any more progression with Will's referral?
My parents are down for a couple of days next week which will be good before they head off on another 4WD trek.
Is it worth resurrecting the FB group? Would we be more likely to update quick little things on there?
K has spent the morning planting in the garden - plastic flowers she gathered from craft at school last week. Nice and colourful now, but won't be so good in a few weeks time I imagine.
G, the sleepover sounds like fun!
With the maths, I did get one of those cheap workbook things from Big W or Kmart, but W is totally not interested in me teaching him things.
For number recognition I remember DH played snap with him with normal playing cards.
Cally, W does the speed limit signs too - "80! That sign said 80! Are you going 80 mum?" Good thing he can't see the speedo from where he is! I love the writing, so cute!
Haven't really got anywhere with the referrals yet. Have been to the city once and are going again next week but there have been a few postponed appointments in between. I am not overly worried now, all the behavior we were having trouble with has faded away. Will follow through with it, but we are almost tantrum free again and he is sleeping through pretty consistently.
