Hey ladies! I have been reading regularly but on my phone it's too hard to do a proper reply, so here it is now that I'm on a desktop :)

Solids - isn't it a bit early? Everything I've read has said exclusive milk (be that breastmilk or formula) for a minimum 6 months, and that milk as main diet is suitable for upto 12 months. So that's what we're sticking with, anyway. Baby led weaning. J is such an easy feeder now, he's done in 5 or 10 minutes and hardly needs burping. We won't be feeding him mush and rice cereal etc, rather just tastes of what we are having. It's supposed to be really good for them to learn to pick things up, put in their mouths etc rather than being spoon fed. Seems like everyone's beautiful bubba's are thriving and happy, which is great :)

Pholi wow you guys are lucky DP had 4 months off, it must have been so hard for him to go back to work though? DH had 2 weeks off over christmas, the company shuts down, so that was nice. We didn't do much though. You don't suppose Thor's sleep is being affected by the heat? On those 40 degree days J was really disturbed in his sleep. Once we got the portable air-con though and the room was cool he settled back into what he was previously doing. Love your little rhyme too.

Welcome Tricia! I'm in Perth, Morley area. Miss Dee I hope you guys had a nice date. How'd Arya go, and you? We went to see The Hobbit.. I didn't like it. But then I hated Lord of the Rings too. But DH LOVES it.

So, ASFU, J is doing great. Currently sleeping peacefully *goes to check* DANG IT he's just started to stir so I'll wrap this up. He's what.. 70cm? and just under 7kg. He's slender alright, with some chub on the legs. He's rolling from back to front, and plays in that position for upto half an hour. But he can't roll front to back yet. He's sleeping usually from 10.30 till 4.30 (roughly) but has had a couple nights where he has woken more frequently. Anyway I better go now xx

lady-neon, the 4 months was totally unpaid, remember. But yes, having dp around that long was awesome.
I don't think it was the heat - he was no different on hotter vs cooler days. i think its because I've been feeding him on waking as well as right before bed, and so he's now looking for food instead of self settling. :(

I spoke to ngala yesterday to get my head around it, cos there is no routine, and neither of us are thriving. They gave me some good insight and great suggestions, so when he's over his post-immunisation irritability I'll see how that goes. He's grumpy, clingy, not eating, not sleeping long and overall very unhappy today.

Lady Neon-It sounds like J is doing well. I will also be doing BLW after 6 months but I think the recommendations are 4-6 months and I know many of the ladies who have started éarly' have been okayed by their doctors.

AFU-we are great. Had our 4 month needles yesterday because the MCHN was sick the week before. Amelia is 5620 grams and 59 cm so between 10th and 25th percentile. They are really happy and don't want her on solids yet (which I am not ready for anyway). They are happy with her rolling both ways and everything else. She didn't even notice the first needle because she was so disgusted with the liquid lol. No other issues here, no panadol needed but I do have it in case.

Many would say it too early for solids yes but they say 4-6 months so nope not too early as far as I am concerned....and def not too early as far as Amelia is concerned LOL. She loves her food, I can't shovel it in fast enough she reckons LOL.
Each to their own though, many parents don't feed till after 12 months even, they think solids before 1 is just for fun. Some do the BLW. Whatever works best for baby I say. The way Amelia eats there was no way she would have waited till after she turned 1 LOL.

Hi ladies good to see that we are getting a few posts in here again.

I think solids depends on the baby that's why they say between 4 to 6 months. My MHN said that one sign they are ready is when they start waking at night for extra feeds. On that front I'm still ok G has only started showing an interest in what we eat over the past couple of weeks. I gave her a little avocado from my fingers the other day as she was watching me make sandwiches. I'm hoping to get her to 5 and half months before starting solids. Having said that prepared though with bowls cups etc. We are doing fine and have settled into our own little routines I love all her little talking real laughs and the changes that happen on a daily basis. I'm starting to feel sick at the thought of leaving her in 4 months to go back to work part time.

Heh about solids it real does depend on the baby. My first started at 4.5 months and loved it! Kept eating more and more but didn't drop any milk feeds either! My second wasn't fully interested until after 9+ months (she had little tastes every now and then before that) . My third had little bits from 6 months.

I do a mix between puree and BLW. I'm glad I do because my first has autism and with that comes issues with different textures. But because we did all textures when introducing solids he has less problems with textures than other kids with ASD. He eats thing even he doesn't like the texture (and he tells me that!)

Kayden is starting to show some interest in food, but I'm hoping to hold of until closer to 6 months because of asthma and allergies in the family.

They're all so different when it comes to solids, it seems. I'm interested in BLS, but also not totally anti purees, mashes, etc. We'll probably go with a mix of both. Besides, we're in the Egg Allergy Study, and they have to have something mashed/pureed every day to add the test substance to. They ring us every 2 weeks to see if we've started solids from 4 months on. I think we'll go another few weeks - get DP through his week of hospitalisation, and then maybe start offering.

Lol Pholi we are in the egg allergy study too! Have had 2 phone calls so far....

Chrispe, just one so far for us. But didn't you say before that Kayden has eczema? That means they're excluded, doesn't it? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else's baby...

He did have a rash that I thought could have eczema, but the doc said it wasn't.

Hi pholi i think only little c in this group has eczema.

Well little c keeps looking at us when we eat and wanting to grab food from us so i tried a bit of rice cereal with bm and she totally gagged!! It was runny enough so i dont think she is ready.

Shes been shifting alot everywhere she hasnt yet started crawling but uses her face to move around lol

Her arm is always in an awkward position when she tries to crawl though but she doesnt seem in oain.

Im soo in love with her and cannot believw i can love another kid more than my first but i definitely do.

Love seeing her interact with her sister too and she is always laughing when we see her sister dance.

Still has reflux but projectile vomits only twice a week now instead of every day and her skin still is red and sore

Amelia has a flat head at the back (there is a technical name) lots of tummy time when she awake (she gonna love that NOT) and repositioning her head side to side when asleep. had to lay her on her side last night, they did say still put her to sleep on her back just put her head to the side.....yeah right, she instantly rolls it back so she laying on back of head, though i don't think she can help it. has to have it reviewed in a month. Thinking of buying her one of them bumbo seats.

Pholi - Your DP's surgery is coming up soon isn't it? I hope you were able to do lots of cooking and freezing to get prepared.

Tricia - (probably spelled that wrong :doh: ) welcome. I'm from QLD.

M2C's - Annabella has come up with very mild eczema, I think triggered by some sort of pollen allergy.

Lady N - Wow J is a long one isn't he?

Can't remember who asked about keeping panadol/neurophen on hand. I didn't with DS. Can't remember how old he was when I gave it to him first time. But obviously have it in the house this time around. And I gave panadol to A the first time when she was really sick. Her fever spiked and I gave it to her to keep it down.

I'm sure I am missing lots. I am sooooo sorry. Very sleep deprived. Neither of the kids are sleeping well at the moment and have been woken at least every hour for the whole night for the past 5 or 6 nights in a row.

AFU - had A in this morning for her 4 month check up and needles (I can't beleive she's 4 months already :o ) she is 67.5cm long and weighs 7.12kg. So on the taller heavier end of the charts.

She's rolling both ways now, and rolls to get to places she wants to go....generally one of my dogs...usually the blind one poor old boy. He just wants to be left alone, but seems destined to be loved well and truly more then he'd care to be by both my children. And I do beleive she attempted a commando crawl tonight. I'm almost positive I saw her pull herself forward a couple of times.
STOP GROWING UP SO DARN QUICKLY!!
Gotta run....I hear DS....and it looks like it starts tonight too :shakehead:

Have had all of mine sleeping on their side (with a support) because of this, and reflux (so they wouldn't gag on chuck).

DS2 still has a bit of a flat spot from when the hospital nurses used to put him on his back.
Hope your little miss's head rounds up nicely tho. :)

Hi ladies

Shadow if you buy one of those seats just be mindful that if your little one jerks around they can tip it over and hurt themselves. I thought they were a great idea until I saw they had been recalled to have a harness fitted on them.

G doesn't have a flat head she had turned from side to side on her own since birth. One of my friends kids though has had a device fitted so when he sleeps his head isn't flat. It was a sever case though and now his head is rounding out nicely

AFU had a terrible night with teething I hope they come up soon I can really see them now. G seems to also have changed her sleeping during the day with only 2 naps however she isn't napping for long enough in the afternoon so gets really ratty. Hoping she figured it out soon. And her talking has gotten better too she talks to me but also to herself when she's playing

yep hoping to avoid using helmet :-)

M2Cs, Chrispe, sorry for misremembering, it was little c who had eczema. I knew it was one of us who was not a first-timer.

Dr Tal, that's a shame that A seems to have it, too. So far there's no sign that Thor has inherited my terrible skin, and I'm really hoping it stays that way.

Dr Tal, DPs op is this coming Friday. I have some carrot and some pumpkin in the freezer for Thor, 5 or 6 meals for one, for me when he's in hospital, and half a dozen meals for 2, for when he comes out. It feels good to be relatively prepared in that way. I haven't tried Thor on any food yet, but he certainly opens his mouth when it approaches. I don't want to start without being prepared to continue every day though - I don't think that would be very fair on him. Though I am wondering if solids might help him reset his night sleeping...

Pholi - I hope your DP's surgery goes to plan. Sounds like you've got a few meals ready, which will be nice.

Shadow - I hope you won't have to put a helmet on A. There's a little girl a couple of months younger then DS at his day care that had to have a helmet. I always felt really bad for her.

Terry - I hope you don't have too many more bad nights with G's teeth before they come through. Little A is still showing no signs of teething what-so-ever, but that doesn't really surprise me as DS was around 9 months before he got any teeth. He was a gummy for AGES!

Can't remember who was thinking about a bumbo. We had one for DS and have used it for A already. But like someone said, you do have to be careful, because they can pop themselves out of it. We've never left either one of them unsupervised in it. But it was a lifesaver for feeding DS as he never really sat.

AFU - in regards to solids, we've still not started them, and A isn't showing the slightest interest in food or us eating, so I think it will be some time yet. She also still has the tongue reflex that pushes everything out of her mouth. But when we do start, we'll be doing the same thing with her we did with DS which was a combination of puree and BLS. Neither one of them completely fit DS so we took a bit of both and improvised.
