Babies born ~ September 2012#1

We have already started solids 4 or so days ago (16 weeks and however many days) . Have had rice cereal, apple and avocado (all seperate).......she loves all of them had about a tablespoon (1 frozen portion) of apple just before and woofed it down, might try 2 tomorrow. She has it at lunch time. Has one side of a feed then solids, then the other side.
She loved the avocado but seemed to get spots (rash) on her cheeks afterward, not sure if was a reaction to it or maybe the rice cereal, I'm inclined to think it was more likely the avocado. may have had nothing to do with food either

Next we will be trying sweet potato or pumpkin, I've made a heap and frozen it :-) Apple, pear, carrot, green beans (which I gave her a little taste of and that night she had very bad wind pains, but i did eat some shortbread biscuits aswell that day so who knows, leaving the beans a while anyhow) sweet potato, pumpkin.

It might be a good idea to try one thing at a time. They recommend trying one thing for 3 or 4 days before moving onto the next. Partially because it can take 2 or 3 goes before bub decides they like the taste, but also because it can be easier to work out which food they've had a reaction to if they do have a reaction.

Just checked baby book for what day she started :-) 30th December she first had rice cereal, had it 30th, 31st and 1st, Then we went for lunch on 1st at DH parents and they had some avocado there so I thought I'd give Miss A a bit to try. These last couple of days (yesterday and today) we have been having apple :-) Apple again tomorrow then either pumpkin or sweet potato over the weekend :-)

Has anyone else been watching the show Parent Rescue on SBS Thursday afternoons? (2:30 Qld time) it is really good, only goes for half hour though. Today was about reflux babies. It's based on Karitane and parents that go stay there. Really helpful, can get some good tips of it

I don't plan on starting A on solids before 5 months. But as far as when exactly, I'll leave that more up to her. DS started at about 5 1/2 months. We had started feeding him breast milk in a spoon about 3 weeks before that. Just so that the way he was being fed wasn't completely foreign, I'd feed him about 1/2 a little tupperware container full of milk before his normal feed. When I started feeding him it was when he was really showing an interest in our food, copying us chewing and trying to grab out food.

We had to put him in a bumbo though to sit, as he never actually sat. Well obviously he did, because he sits now, but he didn't actually start to sit until after he was walking. I think he probably could have had he wanted to, he just never did. He was rolling around everywhere from 12 weeks, then was crawling at about 5 months, pulling himself up to stand by around 6 months I think and walking un aided by about 8 1/2 months. He was always on the move and just never sat...

I am hoping A doesn't take after him in that respect. So ideally I'd like her to be able to sit on her own before she starts solids, but I'm not banking on it IYKWIM?

I have already started making food up for her though. Mostly the seasonal fruit. I've got a whole bunch of pureed mango and lychee, Banana and cherries, stone fruits....that sort of thing. Poppy's avocado are nearly ready now, so I'll freeze some of that soon too.

Hey there girls, Wow these babies are 4 months old already! Where has that time gone?

I've thought about starting Kayden on solids, but since DHs family have so many tummy and digestive issues I figure Kayden is better off waiting, so his system is that bit more mature. Plus I'm a bit lazy and am putting it off as long as possible lol.

Had a good Christmas and New Year's Day, now we have so many toys I think we will have to sort out what old toys to donate to Salvation Army.

Dr Tal freezing the seasonal stuff is a great idea think I might start doing some of that especially since I have my own stone fruit trees.

AFU I bought G a dwingler play mat for Christmas and its the best money I've spent. In the past two days she has been crawling around it on her bum and rolling from her stomach onto her back and the reverse. It has certainly freed up some of my time. She is also going to people again so it must have been a stage

Wow, starting solids! I know that it's fine from 4 months, and all, but Thor seems so little still! Having said that, he certainly is showing an interest in anything we eat in his sight, and at his 3-4 month CHN visit, she went through solids with us.

Thor is still only rolling from tummy to back on one direction, and has limited tolerance of it - he'll do it 4 or 5 times and then tire out. But he does seem to move around a bit on the playmat, and I presume it's still pretty accidental. Like everyone else, I'm loving the interaction - gorgeous chuckles and squeals when we tickle him, and lots and lots of talking. This morning he woke us up by talking, really loudly, too, he stopped for 10 minutes to feed when I got him up, then proceeded to talk for another full hour! I love it!

DP is finally back at work, after his 4 months paternity leave. We miss him, but it's kind of nice - I feel like a proper stay at home Mum, now. And we'll have some regular classes - my yoga starts up in February, we'll go to a baby swim class, and we'll continue with Mother's Group, which will become Playgroup in February as soon as our Tuesday morning timeslot opens up at the local centre. DP and I really made the most of his time off, and we have built and filled and planted out 4 raised garden beds, prepared them for retic, and totallly renovated our bathroom to include a bath. Thor is still a little unsure about the bath, but I love being able to have one with him!

Thor had been in a fairly predictable 2 1/2 hour cycle of sleep-feed-play, during the day, and sleeping through the night from 7pm to roughly 6am, until about 3 weeks ago. Then it suddenly became very erratic, with sleeps anywhere between 40 mins and 3 hours during the day, unpredictable appetite on waking, and waking 1-2 times most nights again. The last few days, he seems to be settling back into a sleep-feed-play-feed cycle of about 4 hours, ad the longer sleeps during the day are a godsend for getting things done in the house - but he's still waking once at night, most nights. Hopefully as he settles into this new routine, he'll go back to sleeping through again.

Dr Tal, good thinking re freezing the seasonal stuff - and your comment gotr me thinking - DP is having a major operation in 3 weeks time - a total hip replacement - and I'll be solely in charge of running around for both of them for at least a few weeks, just about when Thor might be starting solids. SO this is one more little thing that I can do to get ourselves ready for that time - freezer meals for us AND freezer meals for Thor.

Oh - one last thing - Thor is such a great name for putting into little songs and rhyming - his latest delight is my version of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. It goes like this:

Hello everyone. How is the weather where you are? It's been hot here but Amelia is okay with it because of the air conditioner. We are having our 4 month needles on Wednesday and she will be 4 months tomorrow. Where has the time gone? She loves tummy time but does still roll onto her back if she wants something lol. She almost rolled to her tummy from back today. I was laying on the floor with her and she kept rolling to me and giving me kisses. It was very special <3

4 months old today. To celebrate Amelia starting rolling back to tummy and back again. She has started reaching for me too when her daddy has her :)

Hope everyone and all babies are well :-) Amelia is going well. Waiting patiently for her to start teething, then the fun begins LOL :-D
Had needles last Thursday was a bit whingy in afternoon but that may have been cause she was overtired. We have another health nurse visit Friday for her 4 month check up. See how much she has grown :-)

There are a few of us in Perth - I'll let the others introduce themselves, though. Congratulations on your baby! Seth is a great name - I have a nephew who is also Seth.

You're very welcome to join the forum. We seem to have been really quiet since our babies all came along. I guess the second time Mums knew what it's like, but it's a bit of a change for us first-timers - Some days I don't even get on-line once, and when I do it's often for just a few minutes, and there's no time to write.

DDB, isn't the rolling on to their side to 'kiss' you adorable? I love it. :) Thor occasionally rolls tummy to back, and nearly makes it from back to tummy, but I get the impression he doesn't see much point in being on his tummy, so he doesn't try very hard to get there.

Thor has his 4 month jabs yesterday. He had a slight fever, and was a bit grizzly, but seems a bit better today. I haven't used panadol or any other medications for him - in fact we don't even have any in the house. Does everyone else have it 'just in case', or will you only go out and buy it if your babies need it? Have you given it to them for anything yet?

Re: paracetamol. With 4 kids in the house we usually have some in the cupboard. I usually only buy it when we need it, but I buy enough to last 'just in case' if the makes sense.
I tend not to give paracetamol with immunisations either, it can mask reactions- which I would rather know about.

Pholi - I bought panadol just in case when Arya got her 2 month jabs. She hates the taste and spits it out do have bought nurofen to give her instead. Damn teething.


We're doing well here. Arya has now rolled tummy to back and back to tummy. I also got her laughing on camera the other night which is great cause the 2 times she's done it DF was at work.

Df and I are having our first date since Arya was born. FIL and his GF are watching her while we go see The Hobbit. I'm excited but very nervous about leaving her. I think I'll be leaving my phone on (on silent) just in case though I'm sure she'll be fine.
