I've really been enjoying all the links and things that you post thru facebook. I can sort of get a sense of you and what you're trying to achieve... and what I think you ARE achieving.

I want to post a whole lot more links cause I read some great ones but I am worried that some of my 'friends' would think I was being weird, a hippy or preaching etc. I should probably take heed of my first comment in this post though huh? They can always block or unfriend me I guess. I'd hate to think people thought I was preaching what they should do with their own kids, not so much you guys but my mums group IRL. Most are quite different parents to me and I often struggle (internally) with how much to put it out there what I'm doing differently with DS. It's tricky.

Kaz, how is everything going at home? How is DP? Is he feeling alot better? Energy levels coming back? And how are you with it all? Do you feel a slight less weight on your back worrying you? I hope you get good news in re to his swimmers. Fingers crossed for you guys. I want this whole ordeal to be able to be put behind you and get back to some normality.
Malyna- All I can say is I'm sure he won't want to sleep with you still at 14. Hope that gives you some light!
Meg- How is your cousin's pregnancy going? Thats great news, I really am praying things turn out well this time.
We finally bought Emily big girl bed, upside she's only waking once a night instaed 5 times (looking for blanket) downside, alot stuffing around and didn't have her day sleep for 2 days, was absolutely feral!
Shell - I remind myself of this all the time, especially when I'm lying there, staring at the ceilign unable to get to sleep, knowing that if I move, i'll disturb DS from going to sleep and then i'll have to start all over again. I just wish sleep schools had more to offer than "well just let them cry it out and they'll get the hang of it."
Am going to parenting classes next week. Signed up for a pschyologist study with DS. She rang me back and said I was showing signs of PTSD and I told her I was diagnosed with it in 99 and then said that my test results were showing that I'm stressed (duh) and that I'm a great parent but I just need to have more confidence in my parenting (or maybe I just need people around me to stop telling me how I should be doing things differently). It's so hard to overcome the parenting that your parents did and start afresh. And it's so much harder when you're exhausted all the time.
At least this time I didn't almost top score on the PND depression test (can't remember what the test is called).
Shell - woot on a big bed. Ferral 2 days in a row doesn't sound fun though.
Malyna - huge :hug: hun. The PND test is called the Edinburough (?sp it's late!). The parenting classes sound interesting, would love to hear how you find them. Maybe you can get some strategies to get the people around you to back off and respect your parenting style/decisions? This is a tough gig, especially when tired.
AFU - Things going well overall. DP is eating well and is starting to sleep more at night. I think his head/emotions are trying to catch up on the last few months. He has been through a lot. I am scared and annoyed with him atm though because he is talking about driving at the end of august and after the stupid friends visited him in hossy, stressed him out and he had another mild seizure he should wait another 6 months (so until the end of the year). I don't think he's going to wait and it will cause major tension here so I'm not looking forward to that :( Need to do more research though.
Shell - sorry forgot the woohoo for the big bed.
Kaz - yeah DH is convinced that his sister's parenting style is the way to go, but what he forgets is that DS is not a 8pm going to bed baby and that I'm not her and I have a different style. When she was visiting a few weeks ago, DH accused me of yelling at DS, so then I raised my voice and said "no this is shouting" then the SIL was saying that I shouldn't be 'yelling' to tell her son off, and I wasn't yelling, I just spoke normally and a little sternly (he was shoving another kid), so I just adopted her parenting style which is to say no about five times and hope the kid gets sidetracked..
Oh big beds - yay but I must confess we've gone back to the cot!!!
As for yelling - had the arvo from hell so I call DH to vent and tell him I yelled at the girls for the first time so what does he say when he walks in the door ... 'are the girls safe in your care or do you need to see someone ' so I proceeded to yell at him and it felt good lol !!!
Question - Anyone dropped day sleeps all together? Think Miss A might be ready?

Ellie - DS still has his day sleeps, but I wish I could drop them but he won't make it through the day. I'm thinking of making him run/play more in the afternoons though, so he's more tired when he sleeps, because I have noticed that the more physical we are with play (chasing soccer balls, racing around) he sleeps better at night (from exhaustion).
Organised MIL to look after DS for a few hours last saturday, because DH was going to be out of town doing flying lessons in Goulburn and I thought I'd go shopping on my own (aka wandering aimlessly around the shops and then stopping somewhere quiet for coffee) but he decided to tag along. I was so cheesed off at him. I don't get time to myself very often and he goes ahead and comes along with me and then gives me fashion advice.... argh!!
Malyna- I don't think that they get that you really need your down time.
Ellie- E dropped her day sleep about 6 months ago. She has one at CC but not sy home. If she does have one at home she doesn't go to sleep tillv10pm!

WRT day sleeps - DD still has one. We try and make sure she's down by 12 and doesn't sleep for longer than two hours otherwise she doesn't go to sleep. Some days she'd happily sleep 3hrs or more but then want to party til 9pm which drives us insane!
Sounds like a few of us are having a rough trot with sleeps and parenting styles and all sorts... :grouphug: Hope things settle soon!
DD has discovered she can open her door, which I am quite happy about as it means she can find her way out if she needs to. Generally overnight she wakes and calls out and I still go to her, she's too sleepy to get out of bed. I just give her a little cuddle, a drink, find Miffy, whatever and she goes back to sleep. Most nights ;)
This morning I heard the door open and usually when she comes out she just comes down to my bedroom and finds me, but it must have been a bit dark or something because I heard this plaintive little voice say "Hello? Is anyone there?" Bless, so cute. I darted down as quick as I could and bundled her up into a big cuddle. Think I might need to invest in some of those little night lights for the corridor so if she wakes she doesn't get scared or anything.
Kaz - big hugs on the driving thing - what a stress. :hug: Can you get his Drs to back you up on not driving? Can you explain to him how stressed the thought makes you, how you came through so much in the last however many months and you don't want him to risk it now? Why is driving so important to him, apart from the independence side of things??

We had DD in a big bed by about 13mths... and that is what age DS is almost now... and we are nowhere near even thinking about a big bed for him!!!! So funny how different the two of them are.

OP do you think the kids are different or is it that the second seems to be a baby for so much longer? I can't believe Dd2 is the same age dd1 was when she was born (14 months) she seems so little yet Dd1 was so independent at the same age - so is it them or me treating them differently??? X
Ellie we dropped DD's sleep around april, she now goes to sleep instantly and stays asleep most night all night, she's been in a bed since january.
I caught up with pinny-mum the other day and her DS, as well as the other two mums we shared the postnatal ward with, was great to see all these kids growing up!!
We have DD in toddler group next year, so looking forward to that, the one on one time with her doing craft etc and having a chat with other mums (well it is about us too lol )
DD is talking more, did a wee on the potty today..for chocolate :D
not much else happening here...shes so grown up :( looks alot older than she actually is because shes so tall.

Olive - congrats on the bribing.
Went to go see a Lego exhibition today, but there was an hour wait, in the rain, so we gave it a skip, plus DS was tired and cranky, so it would have been a nightmare.
A friend who has been waiting for a heart transplant for over a year, got one today. He was rushed to Sydney earlier this week, put in the ICU and given 3-5 days to get a heart or else he was going to have another artificial heart valve put in (he had to walk around with a battery pack, or else plug himself into the mains power).
Such a difficult time, to wish he would get a transplant, but knowing that another family out there would be grieving the loss of their loved one.
I hope your friend gets well reallysoon.

Went to pirate day on Pollywoodside today. It was awesome. Money well spent. J took a friend and we caught the train. It was great.
E just hd a huge tanty as she only wants to wear pink sparkly shoes.
MAlyna - how is your friend going?
Lilima - J has tanties over shoes too! She loves her silver sparkly ones and her pink sparkly ones.
Olive - how's the TT going? Miss J is still refusing!
Nai- we're still getting no where on the TT too. Tho I'm not putting in much effort. I have annual leave in sep so planning then to put her in undies and stay home for few days.
Meg- I am over tanties at the moment. The terrible 2's have hit here.
Malyna- How is your friend doing? Ikwym tho, sad one persons life has to end to save another. I do like the thought tho of someone sorter living on in someone else if that makes sense. That act of donating has helped a whole other person and family and changed their lives.
How did the parenting classes go?
Olive- Is the toddler group like a playgroup type thing? Parents stay? I'm trying to decide next year what to do with Emily I'd like her to get some socialising in before starting kinder the year after.
Ellie and OP- I hear what you're saying, Emily is now the age Ash was when Em was born yet I see Ash as more independent at that age and Emily just always seems my little baby. Guess it will always be like that. People say your baby always will be.

Last I heard my friend had made it through the surgery. It's so hard to know if to ring/text her, because I don't want to stress her out, but I want to give her support.
The parenting classes were right in the middle of DS's nap time, so I've put them off to the second round, which hopefully will be later in the afternoon.
Been having a lot of anxiety lately, trying to control it with willpower, as DS is not off the boobs yet, but I'm struggling, taking one day at a time, and looking forward to when I can get DS into childcare so I can have a rest. Oh gotta go, he's woken up.
