DS still isn't sleeping through the night, still waking up, does the clingy thing then 20 seconds later its like "Mum you suck, I want dad because Dad is sooo uber cool". Has soem separation anxiety when daddy goes, but it's all good if mum goes, except when he's trying to get to sleep then it's all mum, mum,mum.

DH took DS out on the friday night before mother's day and they bought me a nice fluffly dressing gown and slippers - because I asked for them - and I told DH that if he had to ask himself if the dressing gown is fluffly enough, then it's not fluffy enough. DS picked the colours and I'd have to say he did a great job, with only a little guidance from DH.

Shell - sorry to hear about your probs with DF.

DH is driving me crazy but hey, what's new.. he's decided to move DS room, just after I put up some transfers on the walls.... well he can move it all himself, because I'm not moving it - it will get half moved - I guarantee that.

Hope everyone is travelling okay.

Better get back to the book edits... so hard to focus on something when you get 10 minutes to write between doing stuff - no wonder the editing is taking forever... going to try and get DS into childcare one day a week, but it's pretty impossible.

OP - Nightmares and being scared of things like the dark and monsters can start around this age I think. I have a mate IRL with a boy born in Feb who has been scared of the dark for a few months now. DS is starting to talk in terms of time - tomorrow, yesterday, 2 minutes etc and also about things that aren't immediately in front of him like people and stuff he wants (milkshake, DVD's when in the car etc). So I guess this is the beginning of imagination? Being able to think about more abstract concepts?

olive - Didn't know blue was a sleep colour. Thanks hun. Could partially explain why DS still doesn't sleep through with any regularity. His night light throws a red tinted light :wall:

On the topic of sleep, DS is not having nightmares but he is all over the show atm. Resisting bedtime tonight, sleep through virtually last night, up for hours in the middle of the night the night before last. And it goes like that. I'm so over it. I think I would be a much better mummy if I was getting consistent sleep nearly every night instead of sleep throughs intermittently. It's not as bad as this time last year but I'm still over it :( Can hear him in there now grunting and breathing. He's definitely awake. Lets just see if he resettles himself.......

Hope everyone has a great week!! I'm back at work tomorrow (haven't been for a fortnight) so I'm not looking forward to that!

Shell - we will have a good catch up and man-break when we are in Sydney. Maybe they will appreciate us more after a weekend with the 2 girls to themselves!

my SIL just walked out of hte house and left her hubby to look after two kids for three days... He had to get his brother into help... She didn't even tidy up for him - just remember than when you are getting ready for mummy time in sydney.

I did a similar thing with DH - but went away for two days - neither of the boys slept much while I was gone, and the house still looked like a bomb had gone off when I got home, but I did notice that DH was a little more understanding about how some days, a whole lotta nothing gets achieved.

Kaz have you looked in to epsom salt (magnesium) in the bath for DS? or magnesium spray?
i give (if she'll let me) DD magnesium spray at night, it helps to relax them, as well as rescue remedy sleep, maybe try those.

Gastro here. Blegh. On a bad run at the mo. Had to change the sheets 3 times last night. Both kids chucked.

lilima - :hug: that really sucks hun. I hope your washing was dried today and that it's only a 24 hour thing and doesn't keep going on and on.....how is DD with her cast? I hope they haven't had to break and re-set.

olive - I think I had sleep recsue remedy recommended the other day by a mate IRL. What's in it? might go and google it.

Is anyone giving their 2 yr old a flu vax this year? I can't decide what to do with DS. The ones they use this year are not the same as the one from WA last year but I still feel quite freaked out by the possibility of a reaction (they have traces of formaldehyde in them :o plus traces of other stuff that doesn't sound good but gives good shelf life etc). I've had it no drama but I'm not sure who's at more risk in either scenario, DS or DP. It's so hard to know what the right thing to do is. DP doesn't care either way now but I want to make the decision I won't regret :lol: where is my crystal ball when I need it?

kaz my girls have never had the flu vax...im not sure if its even offered here :dunno: i guess id ask the dr's if it would benefit DH should DS get sick.

Hey ladies

Still here... Still trundling along! DD is pretty good these days, DS is becoming the tricky one... Just with his age basically. Into everything! Sleep very hit and miss - can hear him carrying on now - we're off to sleep school today, this afternoon.

DD has gone down to my IL's beach house with them for the time that we're at sleep school as DH is working mad hours and wouldn't have been around to look after her. That's a bit hard for me - sounds like she's having a great time though.

She still has random wake ups in the middle of the night - after reading about night lights I wonder if I should get a nice blue one. It seems like a little cuddle and a drink gets her back to sleep, sometimes she's hardly even awake...

We're in half way through 2yo molars coming up... Two to go. They don't seem to be bothering her as much - Kaz, take heart from that, maybe Mr J's will pop up without much drama!

Ellie - so glad to hear you got some flowers and how funny about the girls wanting to play with them!

I'm a bit jealous of you gals going to Sydney!! Maybe next year I'll be able to come - the boy should be off the boob by then!

Better go jump in the shower while boy sleeps so I can get ready for the sleep school experience.......

Oh and I hadn't thought of a flu shot for DD. Haven't even gotten one myself this year... I think I've missed the free one through work, so prob won't get one this year.

Lilima is right - immuno suppressed = no flu shot... DH is immuno suppressed and he doesn't get any injections (no whooping cough no other needles) - but on the downside, when he gets something, he really gets it.

OP - they kidlets always have more fun with other people. I was walking through the shopping centre, trying to get DS to hold my hand and he wasn't interested. One of the ladies from the gym walked up and offered her hand and he took it. it also happened to me at playgroup where DS decided he wanted to dance with another mummy but not me!

I figure when he turns 16 and starts wanting to learn to drive, then he's got some serious sucking up to do! - LOL

Thanks guys. DP is definitely immune suppresed and they do regular blood tests to see just how much. He will have absolutely no immune system at all after the next lot of chemo they give him. It's about as high dose as they can go without causing organ failure and brain cells dying. It's pretty depressing. So they just about kill him with chemo and they can do that because they have 5 million of his lovely stem cells to put back in 5 days later so they can go back to his bone marrow and start growing all the new (hopefully clean) cells he will need. Hence it takes months to rebuild his immune system but he is most at risk the first month or so and will stay in hospital that time until his markers for immunity start to come back up. At the moment his platelet count is really low (again) and he needs a transfusion tomorrow. Could spontaneously start bleeding and not be able to stop :o Please send positive vibes we don't have an accident on the way to the hossy tomorrow!! eeek!

I had the flu shot while DS looked on in great interest. Didn't hurt at the time but a day later and it was ouchy and hard at the injection site and it still kind of hurts now 4 days later. Still undecided about DS. We're going to run out of time. Did speak to DPs GP and he was in two minds as well. Came down on the side of recommending but said "I'm not pushing that though, it's really up to you" so was still hedging his bets. I'm thinking that we'll just keep DS away from DP while he's in hospital and cope with the behavioural problems that will lead to. :(

Hugs Kaz :hug: It does sound like a stuck between a rock and a hard place scenario. FWIW my friend who is a GP gave both her girls the flu vax this year and last year - her girls are the same age as my 2. They didn't seem to have a reaction at all. No matter what you decide I think the advice on all the natural ways to keep you family healthy have been really good.

We have just had lice here which has been hideous! DD1 has the thickest hair so it was an ordeal - fortunately it was just her that had them. Miss J is so funny - she loves singing and can sing a song after hearing it once. She watched Sound of Music on the weekend and has been singing "Doe a Deer" ever since :lol: Actually just as I was typing she was singing "when you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything". She can sing "A spoonful of sugar" and the whole Alphabet song as well - I'm sure DD1 could never do that at the same age. She also sings in tune (which DD1 struggles with as well) so I think she might have a bit of the musical genes which would be nice (my grandfather was a professional musician but it seems to have skipped a few generations :lol: )

Nai- do you know when aldi will have ski clothes in?

I don't Lilima but it is usually around the start of June from memory - are you planning to head up? I am just trying to plan a few weekends away at the moment.

Lilima - I just looked at the Aldi website and the gear is on sale from Thursday 2nd June :lol: I might try on G's gear this week and see if we need anything and maybe we can do a mission together as they do sell out of certain things quickly.

E has been waking in the night a lot lately and taking hours to go back to sleep. We are all tired because of it. Then SHE sleeps in!
She is staying at mums on Sat so I will be able to catch up on sleep then.

Just took Miss J for her first haircut - she went with a little friend and they were so good. She looks so much better - will post some pics later.

DD is still waking overnight usually around 3.30/4.30am mark, but she isnt awake for hours like we've had in the past, dropping the day sleep has helped.

lilima - :hug: I feel your pain mate. We've had wake ups that go for hours on and off for 14 months now.....you never get used to them. I hope it's just a short phase.

AFU: DD went down to my IL's beach house with them while I was at sleep school with DS. She was away from Sunday to Wednesday and she LOVED it. Had a ball. And then when she got home, she cuddled up to me and said "It's good to see you Mummy, I missed you!"

Kaz- I've been thinkning of you. Are you getting time for yourself to do something nice where you don't have to think about everything that is going on?

Olive- Hope you recover quick and yay on school. Ours was picked easy for us. Was funny at the open day, they're talking bout all the enviro stuff they do and all this other stuff and Df being a maths teacher kept asking bout numeracy and their results there and all that. Plus he was testing all the grade 6 kids there on times tables. At least we've got forms in now and should get confirmation letter soon.

Nai- saw pics on FB very cute. I'm impressed she sat there, Emily fights me just to brush her hair, not that theres much of it. I'm terrified of when we start getting nits here, I keep telling Ash she better wear her hair tied back for kinder but even thats not gaurentee.

Meg- is she waking upset or like ready to play? Tiring. Could she be cold or anyting like that? All the gastro settled.

Not long for sydney, 2 weeks to go, will be so good for me to get away.

OMG E was up for hours agIn last night. Not upset. Just lying there shouting "muuuuuuuum I'm awake!" she woke J twice.
It is 8:45 and she is still asleep now.

lilma have you tried magnesium?? or rescue remedy sleep?

Do you give the rescue remedy when they wake or before bed?
I alo have some calm driops that Lulu made for J. I could also try that.

i give DD2 magnesium (spray) and rescue remedy right before bed, both in a very small amount of water

Another sleepless night, and another morning that she is still asleep. Last night her pony was teaching Dorothy the Dinosaur how to fly.
She is not upset al all, just awake and noisy!
Nai- a friend told me last yeR there was a line up to get into Aldi to buy ski stuff.

Lilima - yeah there normally is so get there early!

With the sleeping (or lack of) can she have a cd player or something in her room that she can put on if she wakes up at night - you can say if you wake up and it is still dark, you need to go back to sleep but you can put your music on to help you. My girls have an ipod with their music on it that they put on to go to sleep and they know how to work it themselves so they can put it on if they wake up.

Lilima did you have any success with the gro clock???

With DD we tell her she has to stay in bed and stay quiet until the sun comes up... Otherwise we don't give her a reward in the morning. Well she used to get a reward, now she just happily does it. Well - mostly happily :lol:

Thanks for asking about us ladies - sleep school was ok. I thought it had helped - but the last two nights have been really bad again :(

Ah well... I think we just have to ride it out. At least he had a little sleep in this morning which was good.

I've just booked DS's first birthday - scary! It's in a month!!! Time flies...!

OP - A year has flown!

This thing is, she is happy to stay in her bed, and is cheerful in the night, she is just AWAKE! So yes she will stay there till the sun comes up on the clock, but it doesnt stop her singing and chattering!
