Ahh ok so you are on a high income. I wouldn't feel too bad, the ftb amount for one child isnt very much, hardly amounts to anything, so you are definitely not missing out on much. And the immunisation allowance is like $250 or something? Believe me, I'd rather be earning too much money to get them rather than the low income my DH gets lol!!!! Slightly too high for a health care card so we pay so much money for docs appointments, just an appointment a fortnight can put us over our budget!

Cost us $220 the other day to get a scan on S's kidneys - sucks cos we had to get it done and it's so expensive!! Bah to being poor that's all I got to say!

I had to go back to work after DS and dd1, both by the time they were 12 weeks old. Interest rates were higher then our mortgage was 500 a week and DH wasn't earning much more than that! Wasn't till I had dd2 that it worked out we were only slightly worse off (like $20 a fortnight) with me staying home. Money sucks that's for sure!

I don't give two poops about the other stuff it's the baby bonus that annoys me.

The bonus was introduced because Australia is 'underpopulated'. Yet do they help people have Ivf??? No. We had our Medicare rebates cut in half thanks to Krud. Not to mention the fact that they don't help or encourage people to pgd Ivf (like we did) which costs alot more, to prevent having children with diseases, which would save the gov millions apon millions in health care!!!
My DH works hard for his high income.... of which HALF of it is taxed from us.
So yeah it would be nice if the Gov gave us a measly 5K to pop back in the bank account after spending 50k to make a healthy baby for this 'underpopulated' country.

WMM That sucks. Sounds like the system is ripping you of at all angels. It sucks when you put in the hard yards for a good career or well paying career but then aren't rewarded for it with all the rip offs with tax, and less entitlements.

Arimeh's Eden sounds like we are in a similar boat. We earn just a little over the health care cut of. Our local Dr bulk bills children but not adults but 90% of Drs visits are for the kids. Its the medication at the chemist that costs us a fortune. Both my DD's needed antibiotics and it was $50. Quite a chunk out of the grocery budget.

Kylz I apparently will get $51 a fortnight also (just applied yesterday) for 3 children. I would be entitled to more but I got some maintanence for the first time in 9yrs this financial year which now means I'm not entitled to what I should be. That sucks as for 9yrs I've received nothing and as far as I am concerned the maintanence should be for my eldest DD not for my whole family. I put it aside for DD but it now means I have to spend it to live. So ex's father essentially is paying what I was going to get anyway.

With the baby bonus when do you apply for it? I mean how long can you hold of getting it? I need Josie on my medicare card but wont that mean I'll then receive the baby bonus about a month after I put in for it? (its on the same form) The longer I can get away with not receiving it means I get more time of with my baby girl from work.

JJ yes thats pretty cool that Iona, you and I's bubs all share a birthday. I was hoping for a march bub but certainly wasn't expecting it. Anyone else in here have bubs born on the 30th?

Ellamummy I wont get excited yet then that Josie isn't a screamer. At 10days old I guess things can change! She is certainly more vocal now then ever. I guess that will continue.

Mildez W was still sleepy and never cried at 10 days. Now he cries alot and never sleeps!!! Lol

Mildez - we handed in our BB form the other day and got a temporary medicare card with everyone's name on it. Apparently Sahti is so special she will be on a card all by herself cos we can't all fit on the same card.. haha!!!!! I'm not sure when we will start getting the baby bonus, apparently there are delays? And yes, medication is so expensive!!! DH needs a preventative for his asthma down here (never needed it in qld) and thats $30 a month just for that! Eeek. Have to remind DH to ring up NIB and cancel our private health then I have to redo the budget. Urgh. I hate budgeting.

Jak - I'm sorry if I upset you earlier, I guess its hard to comprehend that amount of money going on making a baby - I can't believe its so expensive, and I really do think that medicare should subsidise it to make it cheaper - its definitely not fair for the people that need help concieving. The whole system is pretty rooted really and someone is always going to miss out on something. Guess they figured that we need an income cut off for some reason! Maybe to stop the millionaires claiming the baby bonus? Who knows, just glad I'm not in the position to make those decisions myself.

Thanks for telling me that WMM lol. Oh well not complaining. I love the baby stage. Now anyone want an 11yr old? Now I think I would galdly take 3 screaming babies over 1 screaming 11yr old. School holidays have definately begun. IVF is so expensive isn't it? The cost didn't bother me except I wanted to be guaranteed a baby after x amount of cycle which obviously there is no guarantees. We were very fortunate to fall pregnant the very cycle before we started IVF. Who knows what the final cost would have been if we didn't.

Arimeh's Eden I have private health also but don't want to drop it as I think I might have another baby at some stage if my body can get pregnant itself. I don't expect AF for a year atleast and it took years to get Josie so its a long term, pipeline dream. Just I don't want to do the whole 12month wait to be covered thing so its gone into our budget. I've saved to cover it for the 6months I'm taking of work. I have top cover as a single parent although I am married as I can't afford the family package which would include DH. So me and the three girls are covered but not DH. Its the cheapest option for us so me and the girls are covered. DD11 also needs braces so I want it for that also.

Arrr my boobs are so sore. I woke DD up last night to drain one a little as it was so full and dripping. Mean mother I am. I only needed to wave it in her nose for her to latch so it was no effort. Finally she has a decent sleep (1030pm and I woke her at 3) and I wake up in agony as I'm to full. She was asleep soundly again at 315. Guess its not something I should be doing.

Mildez - yeah we had private health cover just so we could have our babies in the private hospital on the sunny coast (cos its better than the general hospital!) but then we moved down here and had our last two babies in a birth centre, which isn't covered by private health, and we were 2 grand out of pocket each time anyway!! And no more babies for us, so may as well get rid of it :) (definitely definitely NOOOO more babies for us.. lol)

we have head controll!! still a little on the floppy side, but shes holding it up on her own! i kept forgeting to support her head all the time as the other 3 could do it from day1 so didnt need support all the time.

Afm - all quiet here! S is feeding, Eden is sleeping, kelts is watching sesame st and Aricyn is on his laptop. Just a pretty lazy day overall. Better figure out what we are having for lunch I suppose, and prepare dinner while no one is whinging...

I just switched K again as he just had a massive explosive poo that filled up two nappies. He was only on the Karicare for 48 hours but he was worse with wind and looked in pain whilst going to the toilet. Have now gone to SMA we shall see how that works.
