Hope- how long will it take you to drive to the dfo?
well that was an interesting appt - jack has compressed points on his head - obviously from birth. he also has trauma around his diaphragm and osophageous (spell?) which is also causing the reflux also the antibiotics that he had at birth could be contributing to it and i have to cut out cow's milk. i also need to give him some probiotic due to the antibiotics. we have a follow up appt next wed. she also said with him being away from me for so long after birth that this maybe causing him wanting that closeness as well - i don't mind i like snuggling up to my lil jack
hope - my dr said to try the infant gaviscon if i felt the zantac wasn't working and yay hopefully we get to meet at the next dfo meet
JJ - jack's isn't the cottage cheese looking spew, it's still the watery stuff
Jaki - i googled silent reflux and ticked off the symptoms that I found that Jack was doing that was basically what made me think he had it
Iona what does an osteo do?
SJ - We'll be heading home sometime on tuesday, probably late afternoon, so if we don't get up there until monday then tuesday will be the day we go to the aquarium... and even if we get up there on sunday tuesday will still probably be the day as my MIL will probably want to spend a day with the kids lol

blah, I'm buggered, didn't even get down to the post office today, DS was late waking up and Elise has been feeding almost constantly today and won't sleep unless I'm holding her, so nothing has been done since this morning. Thank goodness that hubby doesn't have to go to work until 11:30 tomorrow morning, I'll send him off with DS to get the brewers yeast and flaxseed meal while I go down to the post office with Elise, and then he can watch both the kids for an hour while I take some ME time (it's been 2 weeks since I last had any me time :( ) and do a bit of Jewellery making.
Anyway, gotta go and put DS to bed and hope that Elise won't wake up when I put her down.

The paediatrician put R on Omeprazole Capsules (Probitor) 20mg. They are little yellow capsules that I have to break open. THey have little white bead looking things in it. I have to roughly give R quarter of the beads twice a day before feeds on a spoon with milk or water.:
It's really not that far. I'm use to having to travel distances to get anywhere. I'm use to living in country towns. The drive to the DFO is pretty easy anyway.:
Brissygals: I'm up for DFO as well of course, forgot to mention that before but this time I'll stay the full amount of time :)
does anyone else's baby's shoulders crack?? C's shoulders always crack while i am feeding him, not sure if thats normal. suppose I can ask the paediatrician on the 13th.
tried to take Chase to get his passport photo today but would he stay still and not cry for the photo?? Nope. So I have to try again in a couple of weeks when he is bigger. I'm really excited about taking him on holidays now :) I put him to bed early again...really I should know better, so now I'm gonna be awake at about 3am or 4am. I guess thats not too bad though, and maybe hopefully he will start sleeping till 6am again. Is it bad for babies to sleep long amounts of time? Like longer than 8 hours?
I was mainly seeing her for the shoulder dystocia to check that there was no pressure around his neck/spine etc from being stuck but read that they can help with reflux etc. We'll see how he goes:
Hope - wat an effort with the tablet for R. The Zantac is liquid and u get 2 big bottles per prescription. I gave him some tonight b4 a feed and then he did 2 burps b4 feeding and a big poo while feeding not sure if all is related to the medication but oh well
Kitty - bugger bout the passport photo. I swear they always know when we don't want them to play up so they do anyway

We had twinkle toes hand and feet impressions taken, and the one we're getting comes with a photo too... Do you think E would settle, smile or stop screaming? We were the 30 mins and they rescheduled me. We go back again Friday afternoon- but she has needles Friday morning! it's going to be an awesome day, that one!
After a bad day yesterday - we bought infacol and a dummy (another one - the brand J liked- and she just gags and spits it out too!) E cried most of the day, didn't sleep except for about 20mins in the car, would 'fall' asleep at the milkbar, but put her down and bam wide awake, she slept in my arms for about an hour when we were at the daycare lady's house (she's in our street). By the time 8:00 rolls around, I've got no milk left and she's trying to suck but just sucking in air and writhing around coz she's not getting anything. Would latch on, suck and then suck the nipple in and out of get mouth. Finally when she was quiet- but still hungry- we gave the infacol. Tried feeding again but got the same result :( I resorted to feeding get the ebm I had in the fridge, but I only have the bottle and teet that's foor expressing. She was gagging and choking and getting quite cross! Finally I latched her again to try to calm her (it worked), put her over my shoulder to burp her and she fell asleep! She slept from 9pm to 4:45 ! I reckon she only woke because I made it so her basinet was tilted (as if she had reflux), and she'd slipped under her blanket!
I'm going to try and go back to sleep now, before the whole family wakes! See you (later!) in the morning!

Scone that sounds exactly like my day yesterday too. I did some block feeding in the evening after mantaray suggested on here and another friend came over and said she could hear lots of bubbles in her tummy so probably had been getting a sore tummy from all the fore milk. So I block fed her and used the infacol and she actually settled at around 11.30, then was up twice for feeds, but settled ok afterwards instead of grunting all the time.
Let's hope for a better day for both of us today. If not, I'll be breaking out the carrier and she can sleep in that all day cos I have all kids home today.
Hope everyone has success with their chiro/osteo it's always worked for my kids, our appointment is in a few weeks.
Iona - dd2 was on infant gaviscon and then was quite sick when she was 3 months old, so we took her to the hospital and the paed there told us to take it off her straight away, he hates the stuff - too much salt he said. Recommended losec if it got worse. Funny how everyone is given different advice!
Who was it that asked about the homeopathics? I took dd1 to the meher clinic on the sunny coast, and that fixedher silent reflux within a couple of months.

Had a CMHN appointment yesterday, Miss A is now 4.9kg and 55.8cm long - she has put on just under 500 grams in 2 weeks!!! :o
I spoke to her about A problem with wind/gas and she told me to start drinking camomile tea in the afternoon (cos most of her issues are late arvo and evening) as this should help.
Well, i dont know if it was that, or the new burping method (not over the shoulder) or just coincidence, but i didnt have to stay up for over an hour after the 2am feed to get the wind out - more like 15 minutes and i could put her back to bed - so definitely going to keep that one up - i dont mind the taste either which is good
JJ - Tuesday is good for me, Morning even better as my sisters house inspection (final inspection before she settles) is that afternoon and she wants me to come with her...

Kylz - an Osteo is sort of like a Chiro, but they dont do the manipulation of the bones (well actually there are two types of Osteos, but the ones that specialise in babies dont usually), rather they work on the muscles, ligaments and tendons that hold the bones in place, as well as the bones/joints in a gentle manner (called craniosacral therapy) and realign bones... Health care providers can also do a course in CST and learn this technique, so you can find people that only do this (i did the course 3 years ago, but unfortunately havent used it much as i have always had a little one with me)
It works on the theory that everything is linked by the skull and the spine and so if there is anything that is out of alignment (either bone or muscle pulling on the bone) it will affect many of the systems around the body - particularly the digestive system.
A few treatments and some 'homework' usually sees great results - wish i had of known about it when i had MJ! Anyway, hope that explains it a bit

A is giving really big smiles now and if she coo's at something and i copy her she gives a really huge grin, its so cute and I love the fact that we are starting to interact in a small way

Well after a shocker night i went and ticked off a heap of symptoms of silent reflux to.
She had a bottle at 6pm and then cried until 8pm would only settle in her bouncer in an upright position then i put her to bed because she was asleep WELL she woke 2 minutes later and screamed and screamed so DH got her and put her in the bouncer where she slept until 12 then i fed her she played up for 10-15 minutes then slept at 2am she had a scream for 5 minutes got her dummy and she settled then at 3am more screaming for 30 minutes gave her the dummy she settled then 4am another episode until 4:30 where i gave her a bottle put her back to bed asleep and 5 minutes later she woke crying took until 5:30 to get her to sleep.
She has progressively got worse and here i was thinking it was colic and 8 formulas later i now am sure it is reflux she has all the textbook symptoms.
I rang my doctor 5min ago and have an appointment on wed in the mean time we are going to try the infant gaviscon.
Maybe that would explain all those uncomfortable noises she makes when trying to sleep.

Fussy feeding
arching back and neck and screaming every feed
pulling off the bottle and crying
Gulping her bottle
Big weight gain from comfort feeding
constant hiccups
wet burps
unsettled when laying down flat (we have her bed tilted)
Watery spew
constant swallowing when laying down
Constant sucking
Hoarse voice
Seems uncomfortable
Parents intuition something is wrong
Iona-Ella is always bringing up watery vomit and swallowing it back down.
I was thinking the same thing. I thought perhaps it was just sit down and let them go for it however long they want. IT's what I do in the evening. Set myself up with the breastfeeding pillow, plonk her on, she latches and sucks and nibbles etc for like an hour and a half, two hours maybe and just falls asleep?
