BG: We've introduced a dummy too for the same reason. Sadly though she only sucks it when we're holding her, so its still a case of boob-spew-boob-spew etc to settle her last thing at night. At least the dummy helps us get through arsenic hour without too much roaring.
Bella: I wouldn't be without the net either. Since having Phoebs I've felt a little overwhelmed at times. It helps to read about where everyone's at and not be alone.
I'm glad this place is one of support for you. Its an honour to experience these last days of your pregnancy with you.
We had a decent sleep tonight - got three hours in a row earlier. Just burping her now and crossing fingers that she sleeps in til 8-ish.
-
Just a quickie as typing while holding the little guy but great to hear from you Amy - hope things start to settle down in a few weeks, I applaud you with 2 little ones, I dont know how you, Niadla and Jess do it, I struggle with just one!! Sounds like you are doing a fantastic job, and coping extremely well during such an emotional and busy time for you - even with Natty going through the adjustment faze of having a sibling AND looking after a newborn - keep lurking as we'll keep u amused even if u dont have time to post :) Well Done Yummy Mummy x

had a fantastic (but scary) night last night! Emerald had a feed and sleep at about half seven in the lounge - i went to bed and DH stayed up watching TV until she woke. eventually decided to bring her to bed for a dream feed at about half 11, so she was back in a proper sleep by half 12 - and had to be woken from squirming about half 6 for another feed seeing i was about to explode - she's still snoozing on daddy's chest now! what a gem of a kidlet... off to see MCHN today...
-
what is the MCHN? and why am i the only one not being visited and having all these appointments??? LOL. i haven't even had her weighed yet. she was asleep when the first midwife came to visit me so i told her no cause i couldn't bear her being woken up.
bella.... if you end up a ceasar you are allowed to mope. its not nice. its major surgery and the healing can take a year or more. i think the point its more about having a non-traumatic birth experience. a natural birth can be just as painful and traumatic and thats not nice. i had two ceasars. i had post traumatic stress over the first one but i am fine over the second one because it wasn't a stressful experience. so whatever happens with your bub, if the experience is calm and you feel in control of your experience, i think you will be fine. the whole argument 'at least you and baby are fine' never helped me with the first one. its important, but i think its more important you feel people listen to you, let you make the decisions and respect your decisions. we all have our fingers crossed for you. xoxoxxo
snacks... Q is being a nightmare. he wants me at night and daddy in the day . but my parents are over bearing and they drive him back to us. then he competes for his dad's attention with his older brother, and he rejects me cause i left (and went to hospital) and always have ralie attached to my boob. its hard at the moment.
vic... caffine effects ralie, she gets miserable. but didn't effect Q, he is always miserable!! LOL just a sleep avoider. still is. miss caffine. i think i am having withdrawals. i need to drink those healthy caffine free drinks just to feel like i have had coffee. :(
i personally think midwives are some of the most *****iest, bulliest people in the world. and i don't say this lightly cause my mum is a midwife! SOME of midwives at the redlands REFUSED to give me pain medication. the trip on power.
SOME are lovely and should be able to fire the not lovely ones. the one who did my homevisit the next day was a darling. she was so sweet. but she only came on shift on the last day! do what you want, when you want, i say. google it if you are not sure, everything is online!! and then at the end of the day its your body, your baby.
-
Raindrops - MCHN is maternal child health nurse - you should be referred to one locally by your middies. i had two different ones call (both local just different zones so i got to pick) on the day or two after i left hospital, as well as having a midwife visit day one at home, and call day 2 - also had LC call on day three (MCHN visited that day) and apparently LC will be ringing today as well. the follow up from my discharge from hospital has been fantastic - can't fault any links in the chain - as much as i'm at home and doing my own thing, i'm still feeling really well supported by everyone. i think after today things will drop off and i'll only go see the MCHN at 4 weeks for next weigh in and some hearing tests and things. the same day i see the GP for my four week follow up post caesar too (busy day - must make sure DH is home from work to drive us around!)
little bit worried about Emerald this morning - she has just projectile puked alllll over me - it's just scary. poor bugger. i she followed it up with a few more little pukes, and just snuggling into me - no crying or anything. i think maybe she had a pain in her belly cos she's let rip a few times, and had another small feed (mummy is being mean and limiting what she has so that it doesn't over fill her tummy again!) with only the teeniest of possets so i'm hoping that's all it was... she also has a bit of a runny nose so will have to see with MCHN if she thinks it's anything to worry about...

Naomi – What a good boy Bailey was for sleeping so you and hubby could have some treasured time for yourselves. You must be looking forward to your holiday! I’m trying to look for a good deal for a little holiday to the snow for a week maybe July on August. It’s just hard getting away when we have a farm! When Danny gets home from work next Wednesday, it’s time for seeding – so I’ll be a widow to the farm again, but I think he’ll definitely deserve a holiday from all his hard work. Dan is keen to try again for another baby at the end of the year (I am too, but we’ll see yet) and I’ve told him before I grant him another child, he has to take me overseas on another holiday. I think that’s fair! LOL!
Raindrops – So glad you haven’t had the blues – I could be wrong, but I think ‘the blues’ is when you cry for no reason isn’t it?? Hope your painfree soon and that you can sleep on your tummy even sooner. I do miss being pregnant! As much as I am enjoying these two gorgeous girls – I feel like my pregnancy was taken from me a little too soon. With Rochelle, I was well and truly over it! Sorry to hear Q has been a little difficult :( When was/is he 2? I think the MCHN visits are more for the first timers? I had one with Ro, she visted for 2 weeks I think… None this time. Except I go to my are MCHN who is at the community centre every couple of weeks just have Brooklyn weighed and what not.
Niadla – Fabulous not having any blues huh! I was expecting it too, but two times lucky so far. What sort of car did you get?? My husband said after I had the baby (didn’t want my waters breaking in the new car) he’d replace my car with a new landrover… There is just so much happening though so I haven’t got on his case about it yet… that reminds me! It’s not too stressful, I just do it when the girls are asleep and I’m pretty fortunate because Ro still sleeps for 4 (sometimes a bit more) hours per day and then 7 till 7 and Brooky has been going down at 7 too (sometimes a little later if I put Ro to bed first) and has been sleeping till anywhere between 1 to 4am and then I wake her back up at 7am. I’m just working on getting all the room sizes right at the moment! It’s all exciting at your household at the moment… Goodluck with the new car!!!
Jess – Maybe try a vinegar and bi carb soda mixture to get the zinc cream out of the carpet… might help break down the greasyness. Glad the studies are coming along nicely! :)
Bella – It’s great to hear your in high spirits and things are going well with your care atleast. I hope that little girl decides to come out and meet her Mummy and Daddy real soon. I have been thinking of you!
Amy, I am so sorry that things are a bit hard for you at the moment… maybe I’m not having the same trouble with Rochelle because she’s a bit younger? When we decided to have another so soon, we thought it would probably be hard and we said to eachother that even if it was hard – it’s really only for a short while in the scheme of things and the amount of joy they bring, it’s absolutely worth it. So maybe hold on to the thought that it won’t be this hard for long. I’m sure you’ll find a groove soon and make it all run so smoothly. In regards to routine… with our routine, I just encourage her to feed during the day so she takes her longer sleeps during the night iykwim. I know some mothers are feeding all night but have babies that have long sleeps during the day – so I made sure to encourage it so she learns night from day. Her feed times are 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm. I’m supposed to dreamfeed her at 10.30ish (which I did with Rochelle) but I just let that one fly with Brooklyn and feed her when she wants over night, which has only been once between 1 and 4… I still have to wake her for 7am and feed… actually most of her feed I have to wake her for. I probably do other small things differently than a non routiner too – like lighting and I stipulate activities during the day… Like after our 10am feed, she has atleast 3 minutes of tummy time and some nappy off time in the sun room of our house. In the afternoons I take both girls for a walk outside – Brooklyn’s eyes go crazy being outside (I think the stimulation) and she enjoys the sling. Otherwise at this stage we just cuddle and Rochelle and I sing songs - it’s more of an activity I do with Rochelle, but Brooklyn lays besides us contently or I prop her up on my lap. I do make a major effort to make Rochelle apart of things when I’m doing something with Brooklyn though. I keep her busy by getting me nappies or putting nappies in the bin, asking her to sing to Brooklyn or asking her to show me where specific body parts are on Brooklyn (which he just loves). I constantly talk to Rochelle when I’m feeding Brooklyn, like going over animal sounds, singing etc. Yesterday we were out clothes shopping and while we were in Myer it was Brooklyn’ feed time, so we went into the parents room and Rochelle was happy to just sit in the pram while I fed and we just kept on going over animal sounds, once I had exhausted that activity – I gave her her waterbottle that has a little cavity for snacks that I put sultanas and bits n pieces in which keeps her amused for ages so I was able to change Brooklyn etc. I’ve also enrolled Rochelle into next terms kindermusik! I thought it would be something exciting for Rochelle and a bit more quality time for her. Hopefully Brooklyn will sleep on the side of the room, otherwise they said it’s no problem for me to sling her! Danny will come every second week and we can both do It with her. I think you’ll be fine once DH goes back to work… Danny is away for 7 days at a time and to be honest, I find it just as easy with him gone because we find our groove. You’ll probably find that you will get yourself into a routine (housework and dealing with both girls) with DH gone, and it will be even smoother. We’re all here if you ever need a chat! :) Oh and my slow cooker is my best friend at the mo – trying to do dinner and get two ready for bed etc on my own isn’t the easiest otherwise. Lol.
BG – Emerald sounds like she is doing great which is wonderful to hear! Your welcome to tell me to butt out, but I just thought I would mention to be careful of limiting how much she has as your supply isn’t established yet and babies can vomit/posset just from having a wind bubble. I take Brooklyn off my breast 3 times during a feed and my let down is quite fast so I hear her swallowing quite a lot of air… I take her off pretty soon to burp her because the beginning of the feed is so fast and she even has vom at that burping session and she still has another 20 or so minutes feeding after that. I remember being freaked out when Ro first did one of those spews, but I think I just didn’t realise that’s what they did. I remember never being able to leave the house in clothes that didn’t have vomit on them. Lol.
Everything is going beautifully here with us. I’m just so inlove with life right now it’s brilliant! Both girls are asleep again (I typed a bit of this while Brooky was on the boob and had to come back to it.) and after I put Ro down at 9am for her morning nap, I baked choc chip cookies! Slow cooker is on, dishes are done, load of washing is on – can bludge for the rest of the day now. Although I do have to pop in to the nearest town to bank a cheque. I forgot to do it yesterday while we were in Toowoomba – went in to pay some hospital bills (from having my uterus scrapped) and shop for some warmer clothes to breastfeed in. Picked up a gorgeous outfit for each of the girls from Myer (love peter rabbit) and even managed a pair of shoes for myself. Very spoilt! In the afternoon, we sat down in a caf? while Brooklyn slept in the pram Rochellee enjoyed a baby cino and I a latte. Rochelle was so cute copying me sipping her baby cino leaving her with a big frothy milk moustache! Such a beautiful Mummy and Daughter moment. We shared some scrummy dutch poffiteroles too! Well I’m going to go and blow dry my hair quickly before Miss Rochelle wakes up for lunch. Hope everyone is fabulous!! :)
P.S. With the new laws that children have to be in a carseat till age 7 – how are you meant to fit 3 car seats in the back seat of a car? We have a nice big land cruiser which is a 7 seater, but I don’t think you can put a car seat in the very back seats and I don’t know how I’d be able to reach to put a child in the middle car seat if we had them all in the back seat. I know the landrover has airbag suspension so when the car is in park it lowers down so it’s easier to load things in, but I’m still not sure if I’d be able to reach… any ideas?

Naomi: Thanks babe, you are too sweet :)
Janelle: Our hospital refers us to the local community clinic. They made contact and arranged to come for a home visit. We had that on Wednesday. From now on we will go into the clinic for the appointments. We'll probably go in when Phoebe is 4 weeks for a weigh and measure etc.
Sounds like Q is having similar problems to Natty (except your situation sounds a bit more complicated by the presence of your parents). She seems upset with me, not because I went away - the reality is I was only away from her for 24 hours - but because of the feeding I think. She wants to sit up with me while I feed Phoebe but I can't let her because she distracts Phoebs to the point where she keeps pulling off the breast. So she gets upset with me, even tantrums sometimes - says, "MY baby! MY baby!" LOL, I suppose its cute. It's just frustrating.
BG: I hope Emerald's doing ok now. Maybe she was just overindulging because she had so much sleep overnight? Making up for lost time :) Anyway, I hope she's ok. Maybe you've got yourself a happy chucker...
Catherine: Natty used to have a longer sleep in the day and then wake more frequently at night. Once I started waking her in the day for feeds she sorted herself out overnight. Phoebe is different though - she doesn't sleep longer than 2 hours at all. Except for last night, and that was because she took so long to settle that she exhausted herself, I reckon! Her pattern seems to be she's pretty wakeful first thing in the morning and takes a long time to settle to sleep - she keeps waking after short intervals. Then after the lunchtime feed she'll sleep quite soundly for 2ish hours. Then in the late afternoon she'll be fairly wakeful as well, napping a little bit but getting very cross and overtired by the evening. She takes ages to settle off to sleep and then wakes around midnight, three, then six and either has a nap or stays awake from then. I'd love for her to have solid naps in between feeds - I don't mind feeding this frequently, as long as she gives me a break in between!
Not sure about the car seat issue, except that by the time you have your third child Ro will probably be able to climb into the seat herself so all you'd need to do is reach for the straps to buckle her in?
-
Snacks: Andy has a dummy, ashy never had one, and i refused to give andy one but had to give in lol and it helps him sleep so i guess i shouldn't complain. Hope all is going well but by the sounds of it its not if u ever need a chat feel free to buzz me, its hard with 2 kiddies and at times i feel like my head is not even here.
BG: poor lil Em sounds like she is having a rough time of it hope it settle so u and her can both settle. Bg if ur worried then get it seen too, she might have a bit of reflux.
Ashy is being a right royal pain in my neck. lil bugger he is. He sleeps well both during the day and @ night, when he gets to bed, can take up to half an hr to get him to stay in bed lol Andy is getting better at sleeping now wakes every 4hrs. both my boys r asleep dunno what to do with myself any ideas?lol

MCHN appt this morning and Emmy Rose has put on another 40+g since yesterday. she's feeding like a trouper again - just limited how much she gulped down this morning after the mammoth puke - wanted to make sure what went into her tummy stayed there so smaller feeds more often - i think i fed her hourly til we left home, went to MCHN, then up to mum's and fed her again. she's got a much more settled tummy now, though she did puke a small amount at the MCHN and she said her reaction afterwards was suggestive that she may have reflux - given family history, it doesn't surprise me - so we watch and wait now!
we didn't quite get through the day without dramas - someone woke half way through the groceries and wanted a feed no matter what - so daddy had to finish and i went and sat with her in the car - i'd checked the parents room about half hour earlier and there was a queue! shocking on a friday! so we waited for daddy in the car, fed, came home, got changed, fed again, had a play then fed again! she's snoozing for now, but i'm guessing it won't last long!
-
argh! what a shocker of an afternoon - bubba slept for only about an hour and a half from 11am til half four - the rest of the time she has been either screaming blue murder or feeding - til i got her to sleep about 8. she'd kip before that, but wouldnt' actually sleep! poor little mite - i think she has a bit of a cold... it's taking it's toll on both of us i think...
having a bad enough day on my own - wonder if that's impacting her. have a headache that i really need to take something decent to kill but don't want to take anything too strong for her... had a tanty at DH before - he kept taking her off me to try and settle her - which is fantastic - but i need him to remember that he leaves next week for work again and i'm going to have to do things solo so sometimes (like when she's really worked up) he needs to leave me to it. Emerald needs to learn sometimes she just has to wait a little bit - mummy can only get things done so quick on her own!
on top of the headache, i had a nasty clot this morning - went into panic mode (it was the size of my fist!) rang the hospital and got told it's perfectly normal at this point after a c/s - great! would have been fantastic if they'd given me some warning! i left hospital with bleeding looking to stop - i expected more, but nothing like this - why didn't they warn me??? no wonder i'm so freaked out and tired and headachey tonight - that was a rather stressful start to the day!

Raindrops - Glad you guys have a great situation where you can be a SAHM. I'm still undecided about how I feel about returning to work. At the moment I just cant imagine it, but I'm also one of those very fortunate people that have a job that I actually like and fulfils me, but overwhelmingly my little boy definately comes first now. I think I could very happily be a SAHM ongoing until the little tacker starts school, but we built our dream home about 18 months ago, so the reality is that at some point I have to return to contribute to the household income (and mortgage) but am fortunate that we have flexibility about it being part time, when I compare myself to some, I am lucky that we can afford the year off - lots of my GF have had to go back after only a few months so I am grateful I get this special first year. DOH re the triple post not working, I have learnt to copy and paste my message before posting in case it disappears :) Oh, here in Adelaide the MCHN is CYH (child & youth health) - so I think it might be different in some states
Niadla - sounds like Allira is doing fabulously with her weight gain, her Mum is obviously a good provider in the booby department LOL. Isn't it amazing how much length they grow too, Bailey has grown almost a cm a week - can you imagine if we grew that quick hehehe. What car are you getting?
Jess - Well done on the studies, I am still amazed you find the time, legend! Arrrgh re the butt cream incident, hope your little guy settles down a bit. Oh and if both boys are asleep - RELAX you silly bugger, put your feet up, have a snooze or watch some mindless but entertaining TV LOL
Amy - cant wait to read your birth story. Your comment about Phoebe's milk daze made me laugh, I always tell Sean about Bailey's 'Milk Coma's' - LOL funny how blissed out they get after a feed, sometimes I scare Bailey when I sit him up to burp as he is off in Milk la la land hehehe. Hope Natty is adjusting - Would she respond to little 'Mummy' helping tasks to get her on side and on the right track? LOL listen to me, a new mother attempting to dish out parenting tips - as if I'd even know LMAO.
BG - what hammock do you have and is Emerald sleeping in it? Bailey has a dummy too, introduced it about week 2 and haven't looked back, it comes in very handy at times and we tend to only use it when necessary (but its always close by). Scary re the projectile vomit. I was just looking over at Bailey about 20 mins ago and he was sprouting liquid in a projectile way from his NOSE (quite clear looking but I think it was breast milk) - how the heck does that happen?, it scared the living daylights out of me, he seemed unfazed by it, have him on my lap now watching all orifices LOL. I thought it may have been bath water as bathed him about an hour ago, but cant see how, unless it went through his ears to his nasal passage, can that happen? I was never good at biology or anatomy, Hehehee Gotta laugh or I will just worry myself silly
Bella - do you have one of us lined up to spread the word when your bubba comes? (and/or do a BA) If you dont feel free to PM me and I can give u my # to sms when the time comes. Hope you are enjoying your weekend and we are all glad to be of support for you at any time, glad we are helping, but sorry for making you tear up! :) I'm the same, I'd be lost without the net, sometimes I feel like its my only link to the outside world LOL
Catherine - I love reading your ideas re parenting, alot of them strike a chord with me and give me great ideas to steal, you sound like a great Mum, full of confidence and lots of love for your girls.
Well DH is off at his monthly Poker night tonight so have made soup (yummy Chinese Chicken and Corn) and bathed the little guy. Have had a great week, starting to feel much more 'in control' - its only taken 7 weeks !!!!! Actually cleaned the house yesterday, went grocery shopping today, for once my home is in order, lets see how long it lasts. DH is loving it as it free's up our weekend and was really thankful which was nice as its lovely to feel so appreciated. Told him not to get to excited though as not all weeks are likely to be as smooth hehehehe I have always shopped fortnightly so that makes life a little easier.
When I was bathing Bailey earlier, I noticed he has a bit of a rash on his chest - I think from the bath lotion or moisterisor so think I might go and get some sorbeline cream or something for mosituriser from now on, have been using all the lotions I got from my baby shower - J&J, Huggies etc but will put them aside I think. What do you guys all use on your little ones?
Must go and express, DH and I are off to the movies for a parents afternoon on Sunday so need to have enough milk for Mum to feed while we are out. I can usually only get about 40-60ml when I express so it takes quite a few sessions to get enough for a few feeds - is that normal? Raindrops you are our BF expert hehehe
Hi Krystie, Vic, Kat, Cathy and Jacinta - Hope you are all well and your Bubba's are behaving for you :)
Naomi

BG: glad to see EM is stacking on the weight, sounds like she does a bit of reflux but i hope it does go away. She sounds a bit of a grazer with her feeds, thats how andy started. C/s do tend to take it out of ya, its a major thing to do throu just gotta let ya body do its thing it takes time.
Naomi: i aint no legand just wanna put a start to finding a career so by the time i do finish my studies Ashy will be at school and andy will have kinder, so i wanna make a start. i put bi car soda on the butt cream and im gunna try vc it up its been sitting there over night so ill let ya know lol Ashy is just being a pain cause its mummy lol i know i should relax but if i did i wouldnt get up again lol so i gotta get things done. As for the lotions i just use j&j sorbilene cream i took from the hossy, i only use it every 2nd bath.
Well i am off to get some stuff for MY car, now i have one. need some mats and car seat covers before ashy gets mud or drink over em lol
have a good one ladies

Amy, you poor thing! Every two hours!! That must be exhausting? especially if she?s taking 45 mins or something to feed! Hopefully soon she?ll start doing longer stints and free you up a little. I hope your not letting the way Natty is behaving upset you. She isn?t really upset with you ? she?s just being a 2 year old mate. Don?t let it get to you. The midwife in hospital said 2+ year old are very selfish and we probably are lucky enough to have introduced Brooklyn a couple of months before that stage set in with Rochelle. She said Rochelle was still young enough that in a months time, she won?t remember what life was like without a baby. So I?m sure Natty is displaying very normal behaviour ? I just know how guilty they can make you feel sometimes though. She will adjust! You are coping like a trooper. :)
I thought the same thing about Rochelle being able to climb into the car seat herself ? so would be best to pop her in the middle, but still trying to reach over and do the buckles up with another seat in the way in a 4wd would be tough. Maybe it?s easy if we just had a sedan?. I?d love a sedan! My husband won?t let me get one though because our roads aren?t very good near our house.
BM ? Don?t you hate that! I feel exactly the same when both my girls are asleep. Last night I was so bored? Friday night, both bubs in bed and I felt like an absolute looser being so bored. So I ended up doing my toes with UV gel ? trouble is it lasts 8 weeks, so I?ll have to fine something else to fill my time next time I have nothing to do. Days aren?t too bad, there is cooking and housework to do etc.
BG ? I thought reflux babies didn?t put on weight? Oh well, if she is a reflux bub I hope she?s a happy chucker! :) Funny that you guys are experiencing this unsettledness and feeding frenzy stage at 2 weeks? which is exactly when Brooklyn wanted to constantly be on the bewbies. It only last about 48hours though thankfully and she seemed to get over it like it was a pain/wind issue! For me, it was just easier to keep her on the boob instead of letting her cry ? although her constantly on the breast was exhausting! I?m surprised they said that to you about that clot too? It must be different c/s to vaginal birth. They checked me (my underwear) every half an hour from when Brooklyn was delivered for any sort of clots. I had to buzz them every time I went to the toilet so they could check the toilet ? even the smallest (tiny) little clot they?d have to examine to see if it was membrane or something or just blood. If it was a bigger one, 50cent size or bigger ? everyone would have to come have a look, another midwife (I think they head mw, I?m not sure) and the Ob! They told me by day 3, I shouldn?t even have blood clots not even after feeding (when blood tends to pool from the uterus contracting whilst feeding) I ended up haemorrhaging that day anyway and needed the d&c. If you are really concerned about it, I would honestly go see my GP just to make sure. I guess a csection would be different though because they would be able to take everything that?s not meant to be there out where as vag delivery they can?t know for sure even in the best of circumstances. Apparently that?s when you?re at risk of haemorrhaging, when there is product retained and the uterus can?t contract properly.
Raindrops ? Nice to see you on FB ? Haven?t checked out your profile yet, but I?ll scoot and have a look in a minute.
Naomi ? too cute about Bailey?s milk coma. I used to refer to Rochelle in that state as being drunk on milk. It?s gorgeous when they are like that with a tiny bit of milk dribbling out the corner of their mouth! Your too sweet with your comments! But seriously, I love being a Mummy so much more than I could have even imagined before I had Rochelle. Danny and I both really looked forward to being parents, but it shocked us both how wonderful and amazing it is. All of a sudden life has so much more meaning and makes so much more sense! These girls just fill up every bit of my heart and I feel so lucky and content with life.
In regards to lotions and potions ? I steer clear of j&j, huggies etc. they actually aren?t great for little ones skins which I know sounds odd since they are so well known and what have been used for generations. I found that out when I was pregnant with Ro, so intentionally never bought any ? but when we were staying with my MIL once, all she had was j&j from her other grandchildren. So I used it on Ro just once and she flaired up in eczema (She seemed prone to it when she was a small bub), although Gaia claims to be natural, it actually made her flair up too. The only thing that seemed not to make her react was Aromababy and goatsmilk soap ? we use the same thing on Brooklyn. Rochelle doesn?t really seem to get eczema now.
As for breastfeeding, are you using a pump of hand expressing? I honestly could only get 20 maybe 30 mls from both breasts using a pump even when I felt full. But if I hand express I can get easily 180mls from both breasts after a feed ? with Ro I could express easily 200mls in 10mins (but that was when she was older than Brooklyn is now). I don?t express that much unless I?m expressing for a particular feed (like you are). I only express 60-80mls when I express after a feed (only do it twice a day, I think my book recommends doing it three times a day though) otherwise if I express any more than that ? I get quite engorged. I?m still leaking like a tap? I?ve already gone through 5 boxes of breastpads! I think I?m too relaxed and just keep getting random let downs. Pmsl.
About how many hours would everyone say their little ones are awake in total? Brooklyn is such a sleepy little thing, although Rochelle was too (still is ? people are shocked by how much she still sleeps) but we basically feed then she?s awake for roughly 20 mins and she?s asleep again! For the Mumma?s that have older NB?s than Brooky, have your bubba?s started being more wakeful yet? I really can?t remember this stuff from Rochelle ? all I can remember is she was really sleepy too.
Hi to everyone else!! :) Sorry for the typos, I was typing one handed while I was feeding Brooklyn then I came back after I put her down for her sleep and then someone knocked on my door for some hay. So I had to go sort them out before I got back to finishing this. Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.

Catherine - apparently with a c/sec they expect that you MIGHT pass clots, but it's all delayed as your uterus is more sluggish in contracting down than what it is with a VB - i was told so long as i felt ok afterwards, no offensive smell, no excessive bleeding, all would be considered normal - but if any of that happened to get my butt to GP or emergency ASAP. it actually appears that the heavier bleeding i was having last week was related to the clot cos i passed that, and everything seems to have almost stopped again. i'm not going to let it freak me out while i feel ok - but am keeping an eye on things and if it happens again or any of the other things happen, i'll toddle myself off to the GP. i did have a higher than normal level of PP bleeding which concerned them in recovery a little but it slowed within 12 hours and they stopped checking. i think it was much the same post c/s though - checking that it was just blood, not clots etc. i was still asked about it for a few days until i left hospital. would have been nice to be warned that yes, the bleeding had pretty much subsided before leaving hospital, but heavy bleeding and clots might still happen and this is what to look out for! thankfully i got a really helpful middie on the phone yesterday and she made sure i was ok with it all. i went off to MCHN and shopping and all ok. i did wonder if the loss may have impacted miss E but it doesn't appear to have done anything. she slept like a dream again last night! one fussy period in 12 hours. she does have a bit of a case of the snuffles but it doesn't seem to be stressing her too much - she slept in with us a fair bit of the night - fed herself off to sleep, dropped off the boob then rearranged herself to use my boob as a pillow - was very cute to see!
as to the reflux part of things - i THINK the MCHN was insinuating yesterday that it doesn't impact weight gain much til they're about six weeks or so - until then, they gain weight but not overly big amounts. my bro's oldest was a rather refluxy bub (no one held her without a spew rag!) and she had bigger weight gains than Emerald has so far - i guess maybe it's just a baby to baby individual thing. i'm hoping she doesn't have it, but given i have reflux myself (which sucks so bad), my mum has it, my bro's eldest had it - it's a possibility. i'm just keeping an eye on her
does anyone else have heriditary issues they have to keep an eye on with their bubbas? my family is pretty screwy, as are DH's (but at least mine are physically - his are just mental lol). my dad was born with cataracts and was blind by the time he was 8 (thankfully surgery and coke bottles reversed this), i have one eye long sighted, one short, both have astigmatisms and my optic nerve points the wrong way, and DH has kerataconus (thinning of the front of the cornea that means the pressure in his eyes makes the fronts conical instead of rounded) - it's made me very aware of E's eyes and keeping a close watch on them. i feel like i'm probably TOO attuned to what is happening (like i HATE when she tries to focus and goes cross eyed! but i think that's normal at this stage...) - but as someone that has had glasses since before i turned 1, i just want to be on top of it all... i just wondered if anyone else was feeling like this about anything...

Long as your feeling Ok and not worrying yourself! I wasn't checked at all with my lochia when I had Rochelle and I passed much bigger clots with her than Brooky. My placenta literally came out like mince though - My ob had to put his hand up inside me to try and get bits of my placenta out. It was horrible. Rochelle's placenta came out like a gigantic steak! They said Brooklyn's placenta was a bit small too which might have something to do with her being small. I don't have any lochia anymore either. I always thought you were meant to have it for 6 weeks or so... but I haven't had anywhere near that long with either girls. But with Rochelle, AF returned every 28 days from when I had her despite BF. Glad Emerald has settled for you! Nothing that I know of to look out for in our family. The only hereditary thing is heart disease of my husband's side. Brooklyn goes cross eyed too, trying to focus especially when they are tired. Brooky woke a bit earlier to feed - sorry for typos. 1 handed typing again.

Emerald has decided it's awake time - but she's a chipper little vegemite - feed, nappy change, feed, play for a while, feed again. now she's laying in her vibrating rocker trying to eat her hand - i'm expecting her to squawk soon that she wants to go to sleep and can't doze on her own, but while she's happy and it's day time, i'm not in a hurry to push her off to sleep. i'm doing whatever i can to help her learn day from night - and the last few days she's had a wakeful time around lunch time (well, normal people lunch time - lunch for us will be when DH gets home from shopping lol). she's just being so cute - no idea what she's trying to say or to who, but she's got the chatters up!
Catherine - sounds like your whole post-birth experience was a bit nasty with the placenta and pph - i'm glad it hasn't led to any issues with your bonding with DD. i guess i wanted a VB so that i could bond with Emmy Rose from the very start - had all these thoughts during pregnancy that, having had so much intervention to GET pg, that i needed that natural birth to be able to feel like i'd done right by her - but in the end, i made the call for the c/s - and i don't think i could have bonded with her any more than i have. i've been lucky in that i haven't felt much pain at all from the c/s (but i think i have a high pain tolerance - my wrist dislocates sometimes and i pop it back in!), and it hasn't changed the way i feel about birthing her. i know for some that a c/s is very traumatic (or ANY intervention really) - but maybe i don't feel like that because her whole conception was medicalised and ultimately, a VERY long time ago, i set my heart on becoming a mum - i didn't allow myself to visualise my ideal birthing situation - i would visualise myself pregnant and then holding my baby - whatever happened to get from one to the other was outside of my control ultimately. i couldn't stop the PE and i'm glad i hadn't idealised my birth being one way cos i may have struggled - hope that makes sense!
mmmm bubba starting to get grouchy - think she's telling mummy she wants snuggles to sleep! must run

That's an awesome attitude to have towards your c/s BG! I'm so glad it hasn't affected the bonding process with you and your little sweetheart. I always get bagged out about it, but seriously, when your kids 20 or has a family of their own.. Will we really think back to our birth experiences? I don't know, because obviously I'm only beginning the journey with my kids - but I'm thinking probably not. I do love giving birth - but the birthing part isn't the reason we choose to have children and it is such a small part of the picture in the grand scheme of things isn't it? Third stage with Brooklyn wasn't very pleasent, but I'm not at all traumatised by it. I was a bit upset when they took her away to be in special care because she was dehydrated - but I needn't have gotten myself so upset because it wasn't for too long. They brought her back to my room in the afternoon and we just had to keep trying to get her on the breast. Brooklyn's delivery wasn't as 'perfect' as Rochelle's - but pretty close! The only things that took away from the experience was that I was made to push and deliver on my back (with Rochelle I delivered on my hands and knees and was told not to push as she was coming out too quickly and apparently my contrax were very effective - where as Brooklyn, I really had to push for a good 10mins - it was hard, much harder than Rochelle and Brooklyn hurt more actually coming out) and third stage. Although they had some problems getting my placenta out with Rochelle too, but not as much so as this time with Brooklyn. The contrax pain side of things doesn't bother me, I mean it hurts, but it's a good hurt I think! Didn't even mention drugs to them this time! The only time I really thought it hurt this time was the canal part - with Rochelle the only time I thought it hurt was the contrax and not the canal part. pmsl. Meh - I'm just glad I'm in one piece and my baby is healthy. And gorgeous, which is a bonus! hehe.
ETA - I really wish Danny had taken a photo of the bowl my placenta was in. It was in a stainless steel bowl and true to god looked like clumps of mince. The bits and pieces in there averaged about the size of 20cent pieces - he had to keep picking it out as it wasn't coming away from the uterine wall itself. They were going to take me straight to theatre then and there, but I didn't want to leave my baby (and secretly hoped that it wasn't seriously needed and if I got out of it, it would just go away) and the thought of going under GA scared me because I kept thinking I wouldn't wake up. Must be a maternal thing where you just wanna protect your baby iykwim?!
