I always hoped to be close to a SIL as i have no sisters. My SIL has two kids, about a month different to my first two. You would have thought that might bring us closer, but nope. I try, she's super nice, sometime 'too' nice. But we just don't really click i guess. We get on alright, but we're not close. And as for my brothers, well not much on the SIL front there. I wish. No other girls anywhere in the family. Just me. *cue violins*

G, that's a tough one. Personally it would bother me if they didn't ask - but I can understand why you would be upset. You want this to be the peacemaker and what brings the two of you closer. I get the impression that she is the type of person who never had kids on her radar at all. One of DH's mates had a wife like that - couldn't stand kids and thought women who wanted children and who wanted to stay at home and raise those children were not worthy of her time and attention. Maybe having kids is something she is simply going to endure kwim? Not fussed on the finer details at all. Plus the other thing is that she may not want to ask as she might want to find her own way, or she may have friends she is asking about all of this too so she didn't ask you. I don't think it is silly at all that you feel that way though.

As far as SIL's go, BIL's wife is *nice* but she is a pain in the arse and so daft it isn't funny. She has let the kids down so many times saying they will come over for a visit and she never shows, or that she will have them over there for a play and then never invites them. I just stopped telling the kids about it now because it upset them too much. It ****es me off that she treats my kids like that and she treats it as a token invitation and one you'd never follow through on so she can go **** herself as far as I'm concerned. Her family only have to fart and they go around and visit with gifts to celebrate it :rofl: and we always get treated as second class citizens. She also said some really really hurtful and offensive stuff about the IL's when she and BIL were going through a rough patch and I can't forgive her for that ever.

MP, I really hope that it isn't the same as your Mum. I know what it's like to have a cronic skin condition and it sucks big time.

I know it all seems a bit petty, but with no mum, no sisters and no daughters, I guess this sort of stuff just becomes more important in your life. It all runs a lot deeper than this incident, obviously. I would have thought she could have called me or texted me to tell me she was pg herself, rather than my bro telling my dad and my dad telling me.

yep i hear you G - I am the same with my BIL and SIL given that I only have my mum. i hear you... i do. and sorry if it came across as harch - it was more about protecting your feelings than telling you you were wrong iykwim? I see where you are coming from, and your bro could also ask her to be more inclusive of you, esp given you have no other female relatives... but i do think these things need to evolve somewhat naturally. big hugs.

Sorry I didn't mean to completely ignore your skin condition btw, it sounds bad. Do you think it's excema? Is the cortisone making any difference?

not sure what it is... its so awful. did the cortisone cream when i got to work, it is less itchy i think (but it is mainly really bad at work), my legs (thighs) are so swollen and bruised from scratching (at night). i look AWFUL!
not allowed to go to gym (bc of sweating, even though i dont sweat much) for a couple of days while it calms down
i am mainly glad ti isnt something catchy - when i thought it was ringworm i was so worried boys would get it

You poor thing, when are you seeing the specialist? Are you still doing the 12 week body transformation?

That does sound dreadful MP. Hope it's not a 6 month wait for the specialist......

MP, do you think it's a reaction to something? Ages ago now I brought a bottle of orange juice - just juice brand in the cold section of the supermarket and I had two big glasses of it one night and the next day I was covered in this hot, itchy rash. It lasted for 2 weeks before it finally cleared and it turns out it was the preservative in the juice. Maybe get some phenergan tablets to take when you go to bed and see if it helps relieve it.

G, I totally understand that :hug: but it sounds like you have made all the effort over the years and she's done nothing but insult you really so you may be flogging a dead horse. I would make up for that by being the best Aunty around though.

G - big hugs, don't really have any words, but I can understand how you feel

MP - hope your skin is feeling better.

JM - One of my SIL's is like that - very nice, but we just don't click. The other one I just find annoying and she's never really made any effort with me, she's a pretty self centred person.

MD - all the guys I work with in the sewerage field shower at work so they don't bring any nasties home - maybe a recommendation to keep that fungus at bay!

We have an outbreak of mozzies inside the house. Have no idea where they are coming from, there are no pools of water outside and it's so frustrating!!

Just started a week off, then we have two short weeks with the lovely long Easter/anzac weekend. So looking forward to it. Did the housecleaning this morning to get it out of the way and remembered how much I hate it! K has come down with a cold though, standard end of term thing. Her voice is really hoarse, but she loves the way it sounds so she is talking even more than usual. She's also skipping everywhere.

Does anyone else's little ones have problems eating steak? If we have steak she just chews and chews and chews and then it gets spat out. No problems with anything else, just steak. We usually get pretty good stuff so DH and I find it quite tender, but she looks like she's eating a piece of leather.

Those that have dropped naps, do you still have quiet time everyday? If so, how long?

:lol: Excited about a hoarse voice eh? The things that amuse kids. I cut the steak up for the girls and they don't seem to have a problem. But i must admit we more often give them sausages or mince just for ease of chewing. And i only have eye filet at my place. I figure when you grow it yourself you might as well have the best. ;)

As for quiet time, yes, everyday. But that could be in front of the TV, or lying on bed reading books. TV lasts a lot longer than the book reading! But anywhere from an hour to 2. And mainly while #2 is sleeping.

Cally that's no good she has a cold. We just cut up steak really really small for him. But if we are having steak I will often just give him a sausage otherwise he does tend to eat slower. We do quiet time as well. But if he lays still for 5 minutes he calls that a 'sleep' LOL.

Cally, hearing of kids that still sleep at this age depresses me lol There is a lady at kindy that gets her 4yo, 2yo and 6 month old all to sleep at the same time for at least 2 hours every day!! Excuse my babble, to answer your question I usually plant W in front of the telly with a snack when we get home from kindy for about half an hour or however long it lasts, but don't bother on non kindy days.

G, I hope your SIL gets over the not liking kids thing before her one is born. I remember growing up with mum often telling people how she didn't like children - I was standing right there!! Anyways, I think your SIL still has the first time mum luxury of knowing everything, so she probably doesn't need your help. Wait until she has had a solid week of crying baby and I am sure she will give you a call.

MP, I hope you get your skin condition sorted out soon. I feel really bad for you, it sounds so uncomfortable!

MD, how is the assignment going? How much longer is your DH away for?

I forgot to say, the girl I wanted to be friends with invited us to her house the other day and it was fun! She has a 2 yo, he and W had a great time running around the house (with A trailing behind). It is great just to hang out at someones house and talk about crap while the kids entertain themselves. I haven't had any visiting type friends here until now, just the girls I see at the activities group that I like, we get along, but that is as far as it goes iykwim.

That's great arte - she prob feels the same way and is glad to havevstarted a great friendship w you too

Lol, don't be sorry MP, I know I got the short straw for sleeping. He hasn't had a regular day nap for nearly 1.5 years now. Every once in a while he will fall asleep in the car for a power nap.

I def don't get it good at nights... But glad he sleeps in the day...in no hurry to push him to give that one up!!!

I would be holding on to it as long as possible too MP. How are your boys going at night? W is currently waking once or twice (but no tantrums atm so easy resettles), and A is waking up quite a few times. I just realised tonight that I am going to be in trouble this week when DH is away, I don't know how I can manage both. Phernegan time? lol, knowing my luck it would just hyper the pair of them!

G: i can see how it would suck big time to not be asked, even if just out of politness and acknowlegement that you have done it all before ITMS). but then again, i guess she probably would feel close enough to ask only if she were your sis, not SIL itms (i cant really vouch on this one as i am an only child and my BIL is a bit crazy lol).
also, i remember when i got my BFP with leila i raced to the GP who asked who my OB was, i didnt have one so she gave me a list of names and told me to ring straightaway, so i got back to the office and called...got the first one that had a spot. it's all so much info when you first find out (especially if you werent expecting it ITMS), so no doubt she just followed that really fast path of booking in/bloods/scan details etc etc without even fully realising what had just happened...mebbe.

Cally: we do have a downtime with Leila now. usually it involves a book or two (where she reads it on her own), or she watches two shows on TV.
i was a notorious steak chewer-spitter. still not the biggest fan...

MP: far out woman! that does sound nasty :hug: i hope that it is just a freaky rash outbreak kinda thing and not the skin allergy that your mum has...doesnt sound like it would be much fun. FWIW, i got this super angry crazy rash itch when i was pg with Marta, midwife thought it might of been shingles (did you get checked for that?) but it turns out that i all of a sudden got a reaction to the chemicals at the pool! i cant swim at that place anymore (but other public pools are fine...so must be the brand?).

Arte: oh man, that is great news about the new friend. it so can make a hard day seem so much rosier. i love my neighbours for that :)
i think my brother is only interested in just checking out my pics for the moment lol. i think finding out i even existed was a bit of shock...my *awesome* father managed to keep that one quiet from them all this time :rolleyes:. considering half of our home town knew, it was a talented activity lol.

AFM: well i am shagged. to put it bluntly :rofl: Leila is still quite unwell and is becoming behaviour wise quite horrid. temps and rivers of snot after 8 days does not make for a happy camper. i wish that she wakes tomorrow fresh as a daisy :pray:
and now i feel extra blergh as i just read in "the age" today about the newborn baby in western NSW, arrghhhh! i guess with all the BB loss lately and this news on top, i just feel in freefall and want to just have a magic wand and make the world happy and safe for all :( (sorry for the downer, i *think* being housebound for almost 2 weeks is no good for the soul!)

MP - do you use Dermaveen wash, shampoo, conditioner & moisturizer's?? DP's got a mate who has itchy skin & he always come's to me for the moisturizer as I buy the stuff to suit the boys diet (no nasty chemicals etc). Just a thought I had when I was reading your posts.

I am absolutley exhausted. After a long week, I spent yesterday afternoon sleeping only to suprise DP at 8pm by announcing I'm going to bed. Didn't help I stirred at 2am when I realised I was sleeping alone & then when he got up at 4.30am (had to be on the other side of Brisbane by 6.30 for Golf) thus I'm almost ready for a nap ... I'm only watching Handy Manny with A&J this morning.

Ended up going around to my bro's house yesterday to congratulate them on the pg and sil told me she chose the ob because she heard that he was very pro caesarians and 'liked to get in there and get it out quickly'. On the plus side, she did say she would like our cot and some help in choosing her car seat, pram etc. And she even told me the name she wants to use which I really liked :)

Andie, I hated that the most about being pg - the mind numbing tiredness that you just couldn't beat.

Cass that's crappy that she's still not well. L still isn't back to 100% normal though, he played a full 60 minutes of footy yesterday and he was knackered and fell asleep in the car on the way home.

Well after cautiously hoping that the mice would avoid us, I got home yesterday to the familiar stench of mouse. Didn't help that the house was closed up while we were out at footy either. Then I had a **** night sleep because I could hear them everywhere. I have spread poison sachets around the house and they have all been chewed at so now I just wait to clean up the dead ones LOL. Not to mention all the cleaning today to get rid of the smell.

A has a little girlfriend too LOL. She is a girl he goes to preschool with and her Dad works with DH and they are heavily involved in the footy club as well, so they spent all day Friday together at preschool and then all day yesterday together at the footy and they were inseparable. He even went to the toilet with her LOL. they just wandered around on their own talking and playing. Not getting into trouble or anything. She is a real little sweetie too - all blonde curls and chubby cheeks. They are only 4wks apart in age too. I realised that I hadn't seen him for a good half hour or so, so I went to see where he was and they were sitting on a bench next to each other just talking away. It was so cute. He is adamant that they are just friends though when DH ribbed him about his girlfriend.

i love it when they have little friends like that. Although today leila and her boyfriend had a bit of horrid day of lover's spats et al. but they were both lurgy monsters so no doubt it was the germs a talkin' lol.

and eeeww on mouse smell...gosh how many would it take to get a smell?? i dont envy you on that little clean up...

Not many Cass - it's all the wee they put everywhere that stinks. I'm sure they walk along ****ing as they go. We caught one mouse yesterday and I know there is at least 3 others in the house because when I was hearing them last night, one mouse couldn't be in all the places I was hearing them so quickly. I did see one as I was cleaning out under the stove before I put the roast on but I couldn't get to it to kill it. Compared to how bad it was a few years back when we were catching up to 5 a day this isn't that bad at all. I just hate all the extra cleaning I have to do while we have them. But everyone in town has them too and has had them for a while now so we've done well to be mouse free till now.

Trill,that is cute about A's little girlfriend! W would have absolutely no idea what a girlfriend even is lol. He knows who is a boy and who is a girl, but that is as far as it goes. For such an observant kid, he has never asked why A doesn't have a doodle. Yet he is interested in every other aspect of how the body works and I am sick of talking about voice boxes!

Cass, hope L gets better really soon and you get out of the house. I was stuck at the house for nearly two solid weeks a few months back (IL's were here so it was deemed easier to take one car and leave A and I at home!). I wasn't a nice person by the end of it!

G, I am glad you got a chance to talk to your SIL. She must think enough of you to trust you with her name - you can't tell just anyone in case they poo-poo it lol

DH has gone away until Thursday for a conference. Wish me luck!!

ooohh good luck arte- i'm sure you'll be fine, fingers crossed they both sleep for you. L doesn't usually have a day sleep btw, but he will occasionally, just really depends what we have done in the morning. even J has been going without a day sleep too sometimes now, but if that happens he will crash out at 6pm so i don't mind.

in other exciting news- i got a new bed today! well, ordered it anyway. it will take a few weeks to get here as it is being made but we are so excited! and the best bit is that it is king size!!!! plenty of room for all of us LOL

Ginger, yay for a new bed! We have a king and it is great. When we got it we had W, the cat and the dog on there with room to spare.

Sleep didn't go so well. Wake ups at 12,2,3 and up for the day at 5am. Only three more nights though. DH has been a massive help at night lately. Either of us can resettle either kid so usually I do it if I am still awake (takes me ages to get to sleep) and if I can't be bothered I send DH. He also gets up around 5am for work so he always does the early shift and I get to stay in bed. I hate getting up early!

Just wanted to pop in & say hi, I've been reading but not doing a very good job of keeping on top of anything I'm afraid. DH arrived some a day early on sat but I was so worn out by then i only feel like I'm starting tp get back to normal today. Have requested an extension on my thrillingly interesting assignment which is due today (might post a link later so you can all WET yourselves laughing at how insanely dweebly boring it is lol). I was so tired it took me about 2 hours just to work out how to apply for the extension :wall:

:hug: for you MD. I hope having him home means that you can catch up on some much needed rest. I'd love to see if your mind-numbingly boring assignment beats the one that I had LOL.

Arte, I hope last night was just a once off with crappy sleep.

G, what kind of bed did you get? We badly need a new mattress for our bed. I cleaned out underneath it today because of the mice and I discovered that they have actually chewed hole in the underside of the mattress and have been nesting inside it!!!!!!!! OMG it completely grossed me out. But we caught two in the trap since 6am today and I can smell a dead one elsewhere in the house that I have yet to locate so I'm hoping that we have beaten them. When DH gets home today I'm telling him we just can't put off a new mattress any longer because of this. We needed a new one years ago but never had the money spare to justify getting another but this is just icky.

We have the feral cats but the problem is just getting to big for them to keep under control now. They are the fattest, healthiest looking feral cats I have ever seen LOL.

MD, I will take the challenge of the boring-ist assignment ever. The one I just handed in was horrible. It was basically to re-do someone elses experiment making improvements. There was no format given and I couldn't figure out a good way to organise it so it is just a steaming heap of random crap! In the end I handed it in just to hand something in. I am hoping I can make up marks in the next assignment which is more statistics/maths based. I was nerdy enough in my school years to go to school at 8am to attend extra calculus classes, I am hoping it is time for a payback lol

William got up in front of the class today for show and tell! So cute! He has been wanting to show something for ages and he had a photo printed out from when he went hunting on friday and it was in one of the holders that BIL mounts tourist pics in at the glacier, so he talked about hunting (didn't get one but heard them roar) and then about his uncle driving helicopters.

Arte: i dont envy you doing the solo mum thing. i hated and despised it when DH had to commute to wollongong. it was the pits. oh and i so hear you about the ILs and car space thing. i had the EXACT same thing happen to me during our "wonderful" wedding trip when DHs ILs came to visit for 3 frikkin weeks. "oh clare, we want to go to st kilda and have a swim, there's no room for you and L so we'll see you in a few hours"....oh boy i was MAD!

sherie: the little terds!!! omg, those mice would be in sooo much trouble with me right now lol! i am so glad that we dont have mice...but we do have some very fat and tenacious rats...so gross when the cat gets one of those...they scream....so hard to listen to.

AFM: well, we got some news that shocked us to our core today. Our friends son (the mum was also my midwife) got hit by a car here on Sydney Rd (for out of towners, it's a busy strip shopping style road...so not fast traffic, but lots of it ITMS). he is ok, very battered but poor dad witnessed it and saw his 5 year old get thrown in the air and land 10 meters away on his face...yep, on the face. by some miracle nothing is broken, but wow, traumatising. the woman who was driving ran a red light :wall: (they were crossing at the lights and had the green man).
so tomorrow we are over there to dish out some much needed cuddles. the poor dad is very traumatised (as i can only imagine, sheesh!).

I get to see a close GF in the morning. She spend 5 years TTC & she is due to pop on April 29. Woot woot.
