W seems fine today mood-wise. He fell asleep on a chair at mothers group for an hour, seems happy enough now so I guess that will do him. He doesn't usually do all nighters, but has done twice this week. Just seems wide awake, like someone has given him a cup of coffee. I even gave him sleepy tixylix at 2am and he stayed up anyway - that usually zonks him! He said he wasn't hungry at tea time, had a spew and then he was fine again but I am guessing he has some sort of virus? One that makes him completely un-tired??

JM, A has been night weaned since december and fully weaned since feb. Didn't make a difference to her sleep. She is getting molars atm, maybe something will improve after they are through?? L's kindy sounds great!

JM - kindy sounds awesome, so jealous that food is provided, that's the only thing I don't like about our centre

Arte - what about the phenergane (sp?), that usually knocks kids out doesn't it? But test before DH goes away because it can make them hyper too. But looking on the bright side, it's quite a skill to fall asleep on a chair!!

Arte, have you done any reading around child sleep disorders? Any bells ringing on that front? If you think A is waking due to molar pain, have you tried giving her a longer-acting pain relief like nurofen, does that make any difference? Maybe you need to reconsider having your ILs help (if they're actually helpful) while DH is away. I know I complained a lot about my ILs but when DH was away, it was the sum total of a number of different things, the occasional load of laundry, dinner done a couple of times, etc, that did make a difference. BTW yet again your description of W reminds me of my friends son - he gets really hyper when he's sick too. I don't understand the relationship but she says it has something to do with his food sensitivities, so that might be worth reading up on in case there's some measures you could take there.

The forum thing is actually one of the assessible components. No exams - phew. I've done some disaster planning around a potential fail scenario and I've decided even if the worst happens, it will be excruciating but no one ever died of embarrassment, right? In the meantime I've booked myself in for a thorough head-reading with someone who specialises in this area, because I can feel the depression circling out there in the darkness.

well in other news my stall raised $1300 for L's kinder at the chestnut festival a few weeks ago. Yah! feel pretty proud that i contributed. we made a grand total of $11 000.

MD: oohhhhh that forum stuff does sound soooo boring and tedious. i hate having to waste my energies on boring crapola like that. i still find it so weird now that they get students to do all this cyber community stuff: i never understood how it contributed to intellectual inquiry TBH (our undergrads are forced to do these waste of time blogs that they dont like doing and we dont like marking lol!).

Arte: oh wow. oh wow. that night with W sounds so hard babe. i wonder if you can contact some sleep experts from a uni or whatnot, as seriously, i think there is something more going on with it (or maybe not, as the case may be: especially if you too have insomnia).

AFM: well, having a crapulent day. dont know why, but things are just balancing act of holding it all together. first off it starts nicely: go to pick up the prize i won (hugg-a-lugg earth, mars and moon set). get there, see some lovely sales, but get pressured into some cute shoes, go to the counter to then find my card missing (eftpos only thankfully!), so embarrassed and also slightly relieved leave...then on the way home get completely drenched in 30secs! and THEN i get home, open the prize and the moon is missing from the pack! arrghh! so now i have to go back, ask for the moon and face the embarrassment again! argghhh! but i will do it because i really want that moon :ROFL:

Cass, I ask myself the same thing. You would probably find it's backed by some rhetoric around Ygens and millenials learning best in Web 2.0 settings. Completely missing the point that Web 2.0 is about ORGANIC use (:wall:) I suppose in a distance ed setting it should be more valuable, but forcing the interactions like this does not add value IMO. BTW, can you post a pic of your hugalugg thingy on FB when you get it sorted out, I have no idea what it is and google returns plenty of weird and probably unrelated hits.

thanks girls. my stall was poffertjes- dutch pancakes. i got most of the ingrediants donated from local businesses and hired the cooker from a local dutch nursing home for $25 :)

Ginger, in a weird coincidence I first heard the word poffertjes today, and then log on and find you talking about them too!

MD, hope that you can get your head space sorted. Failing sucks, but other people probably wouldn't even think of it beyond the initial telling.
I am still wondering about the food intolerances. He didn't eat from lunch time on the night he stayed up all night - how long do the effects of food sensitivities last?
Haven't looked into sleep disorders but come to think of it he went though a patch of a couple of months when he was about two when he was waking for a couple of hours in the night wide awake and we planted him in front of the telly to fall back asleep. Then he did a patch of 4am day starts when he was 2.5. And the night tantrums, and the frequent waking.... It has been a long road. But mostly now he is down to one or two wake ups with quick resettles. Hoping that eventually he will sleep though.
Not sure about A. I have not found nurofen to work as well as panadol. I am certain in my mind that if we had done CIO they would have been sleeping though long ago, so it is more a created problem rather than an organic one iykwim? And I am probably going to do all the same things that ****ed it up with those two with the next one, just because I can't stand babies crying.
Re the IL's, found out when I cancelled them that it was only going to be MIL and the more I thought about it the more I realised it would just be more work for me. She wouldn't be able to do the resettles, wouldn't ask her to do the 5am starts, so I would just end up keeping the kids hushed all morning. Then she would occupy them for a couple of hours in the afternoon but I would pay for it by having to socialise and entertain when the kids were in bed when I really need a wind down no obligation time.

Grrr. DH is talking to his mother on the phone about his trip to China. I am so incredibly jealous I can't pretend to be excited for him. I always wanted to travel and he was always ambivalent about it so it never happened and now what I desperately want has fallen into his lap while I get to stay at home. He keeps saying that he will be too busy with the conference to have a good time, but unless he is sitting in the hotel eating McD's and wears a blindfold as they tour different factories around the country it will be a hell of a lot better than sitting around here.

Oh Arte, never apologise to us babe :hug: i think that we all know how hard the parenting gig is (and i mean that in a whole point of view, from the way it changes relationships with family and friends and the way it changes our lives ITMS).

i also get you with the help thing. i find that sometimes having another person around especially if they are not a "right hand man" kinda person can just turn out to be a bit more work.

G: mmmm poffertjes....mmmmm. i am a dutch girl afterall! i love them! i also LOVE making olebollen. mmmmm.

(oh and back to arte: i soooo get you with conference thing...DH tells me that all the time as he jetsets off. and yeah i get that they can be uninteresting but man, what i would give to travel again even if for work!)

Ginger, I forgot to say well done for your stall! An average fundraiser here wouldn't even make that much all up - we would need every person in town to buy two to make that much money lol.

How technical are these kids of the new millennium?! W has been playing on his game console thing and he knows how to set it up and play it better than I do! Then he turned it all off and set himself up with a dvd while I was putting A to bed.

I know Arte. My kids both drive my phone and the tv system better than DH! maybe that says more about him than them. :lol:
