Hi!
Kaz - Hope Pips all better now! Wow - your lucky having dessert - we never have dessert - LOL!! (or not when the kids are up anyway - hehe)
Mel - How are you guys?? Boys still have a bit of sniffles but not sure whether it's just taking a bit to develop or whether they're going to avoid the worst of it! Not sure...
In regards to not eating dinner...yep - if they are skipping eating because of tantrums or just being difficult then they go to to bed hungry. If it's because they really don't like what I've cooked then I'll give them a basic alternative. In saying that, Dylans my biggest for the tantrums but he usually gives in and eats something...If he's really that tired and doesn't want to eat then we usually even skip bath time and put him straight to bed...
In regards to parenting books - gosh where do I start - Pinky mckay - toddler tactics, Michael grose - although sometimes he's aimed at slightly older kids (google him though - he has a great parenting newsletter) I still like some of supernanny's stuff as well although some of it seems a bit full on sometimes...Otherwise just google stuff - I get tonnes of emails sent out and I've got heaps of books - I get a bit carried away sometimes - LOL - but I tend to get a bit passionate about things like this (as well as nutrition, natural health and wellbeing stuff - how am I ever going to choose a career??? - hehe)
Kel - So glad you had a great trip!! The kids sound like they did sooo well! How exciting for your move - as long as they have internet connection you should be right?????? They do have internet don't they????? LOL...
Yeah at a kid free shop today as well! So nice!!
As for us - we're going quite well! Kids let me have a bit of a sleep in this morning which was very appreciated! Feeling quite good and have been enjoying watching bubs going crazy in my tummy!
Still waiting on our car - looking like at least mid next week now - GRRR!!! I mean it's not too big a deal but I just want it!!!
Ethans going really well - getting sooo clever and such a little character and Dylan also - he constantly suprises me singing abc's and recognising nearly all of the letters of the alphabet! He's so clever on the computer as well...Louis is doing really well with all his activities and kinder - he's such a busy little bee! I just love my boys sooo much!!! I love getting cuddles and kisses and they're just so loving and caring (most of the time!) I was a bit cranky yesterday morning and they were trying so hard to make me smile and put me in a good mood that it certainly didn't last long at all...such good boys...
Anyway, enough of my dribble...lol...
Hope you're all well - we're having a fairly quiet weekend - got lots to do to get ready for bubs still and Michaels been building a carport out the side for his hobby cortina so that the new car can fit int he garage! Got to wash bubs clothes and pack my hospital bag and maybe one more shopping trip for the last few things I need...oh and probably should do so me housework - my house is a health hazard but I keep procrastinating...LOL!
Ok - enough of my blabbering - chat later !

Hello...
Kel- sound like you had a great time. I ould do something like that for a set period of time. DH was thinking of moving to gippsland way for 5 years as there is so much work. Its no way as remote as Bourke, so much more managable, but he is the home body and loves to be close to his family, so he wont go just yet!!! Enjoy your child free time.
Kaz- hope you and Pip are better. I saw on FB that you got a bfn. Am so sorry hun, it must be heart breaking for you. Big hugs.
Kris- Olivia is ok with her cold. She ususally has a good sneeze when she gets up then is a bit stuffy for the rest of the day. As for not eating dinner...I dont know if I could send her to bed hungry...but thats just me. She seemed to have settled down in the past few days. I took Kaz' advice and put smaller portions on the plate and offered her more after if shes still hungry. Also I have really tried to stick to a routine of 5 meals a day and no snacking after 4pm because thats what really stuffs dinner up. I wanted to ask you what the program was that the boys do on the computer to teach them words etc. Liv knows the alphabet, can count to almost 20 and has clear speech. Shes is not visually familiar with lettrers and numbers and I would like to start getting her to learn. Wow that Ethan knows his abcs! Becca doesnt have a great deal of words, although she is very vocal and babbles a lot! She does say 1, 2 , 3. Mine, Bibbi (Olivia) and the basics...oh and "i want to get out' (of the cot)! So yes, I have lots to do with my girls to teach them, but really we do a lot of free play, some structured stuff and thats about it! I never really thought about this parenting stuff much!! Can you teach me! Hope you get your car soon. I must look at my car too and make sure that we are definately going to fit 3 in. I have the maxi rider for Liv and its so wide. The the compac...and if Bec grows out of it like Liv did, then its going to get too squashy. The CRV isnt very wide. We'll see
All good here. Just tired and feeling a bit yuck. Have my first mid appointment on the 6th April and 12 week scan on 12th April (which is our wedding anniversary). Am looking into homebirth for this one.... just need to get Ad to be completely happy...
-
Hi!
Having a bleurgh day today...I've been a bit cranky and instead of being supportive Michaels been cranky as well so am feeling a bit crap...it will be all good though!
Mel - I'm sure you'll sort out the food situation -you just need to find what works for you and your girls!! I wouldn't stress too much about it!
LOL - Ethan doesn't know his abc's - dylan does! LOL! I think I would have a super child if Ethan knew them!! hehe. The program the boys use is called "reading eggs" .
I'm not great at this parenting stuff either - I'm probably not the best teacher but I do like to read up on certain stuff and I love taking them to classes. The biggest way I can see them learn though is just from talking to them...involving them in the day to day - like when we go to to the fruit & veg market I talk about all the different items and we count them into the bag etc...in saying that, there are times I don't feel like talking either...us mums can only do what we can do!!!
Wow - homebirth!! Very exciting - I would have loved to do something like that but I'm too much of a scaredy cat - family birth centre is the next best thing for me...
Ok...going to do some reading and some sulking now...If dh comes anywhere near me expecting sex anytime soon I'm going to wack him over the head with something...he's so done his dash...lol...

Heys Ladies,
Wow Kel, that's a huge trip!
Kris - I can't believe how organised you are ... I really have problems speaking to Pip, I just do everything silently, I forget to talk to him about stuff.
Mel - whatever works for you hun!
Argh, we so were over him / me / Trev being sick this week, Trev bought his new (2nd hand) Hilux dual cab, so we took that for a drive yesterday, went to Healesville Sanctuary around 3pm and stayed until closing @ 5, it was very quiet and not a lot of kids there, thank goodness! Then went for a drive out to Marysville & across to Warburton past Lake Mountain - it's the first time I've seen Marysville since the fires and it's heartbreaking, all the shops on the left hand side as you drive into the town are gone. All of them. I cried.
Hey anyone got any tips for the incessant "mum. Mum. MUUUM. Mummy. Mum." that occurs? It's non-stop when I'm driving, and it doesn't matter if I go "Patrick. Yes Patrick. Patriiiiiick" WHAT DO YOU WANT" he just doesn't stop. And also when I get home from work. Do any of yours do that to your DHs when they get home from work too?
Hey where's JenSam?
-
Thanks Kris for the reading eggs info....must be my mashy brain expecting Ethan to know his abcs! Good! Liv knows hers and we do a lot of stuff you talk about. I suppose I do it all unconsciously. With the food stuff, I have been asking around people I see with kids and there is quite a few who have hungry ones! I shouldnt be too worried, especially seeing Livs just shot up of late. Shes huge. Her size 3 trackies she was wearing yesterday were half way between the top of her ankles and calves!
I had to giggle about you telling dh off about asking for sex... Adam was just telling me how he would like to go on a snow trip with his mates and their families....but i was not to worry coz there is a washing machine there! HHmmm...a snow trip so I can wash his clothes! I asked if there was a sink, an oven andstove top also! Men!
Kaz...hope youre feeling better luv. The incessant mummy...it happens here too. My only advice is to breath!
I know Jen has posted some pics on fb so shes obviously ok!
I am off to a pampering day for mothers group today. Adam has downloaded 7.5 hours of Dora......I know what they will be doing today!
-
Hi!
Kaz - Yeah at having a trip to Healesville Sanctuary - how fun!! I haven't taken the kids yet...on the to do list! LOL!
We've only driven through mt slide and that was bad, I can't imagine how awful marysville would be...even after all this time!
I agree with Mel on the "Muuum" (if you get a chance check out the facebook link I put on of the Family guy - it's a crack up!) I can only imagine how busy it is when you get home but would it maybe help to spend 10min just chatting with him, reading or something before all the other stuff starts, cooking dinner etc starts, he maybe then more inclined to sit and play on his own maybe?? Just a though...I'm not sure what you're routine is now...
My boys aren't too full on with dh...but if he spends a bit of time with them then they're more inclined to let him have some peace and quiet...
I know how frustrating it can be though to have the kids at you...it always seems to happen when you just need some quiet as well...good luck!
Mel - Wow at Olivia growing so much!! That's great! LOL at your dh...I can only imagine that not going down to well..hehe.
Wow - a pampering day - sounds awesome!! Enjoy - you deserve it!!
As for us, dh and I ended up having a bit of an argument last night but it was needed to clear the air! So things are much better today and at least we didn't go to bed cranky!
Kids gave us a little sleep in again this morning which was nice of them - and then we had french toast and fresh fruit salad for brekky -YUMMO!!!
I can't believe it's lunch time already - thinking I might make some avocado nori rolls - YUM - Can you tell I"m hungry for yummy food today?? hehehe.
Chat later!
-
Kristie....do you just get the on line subscription for the reading eggs or do you also get the books or books only?
I had a pampering day out today...was just what i needed!
-
Hey Mel - I've got an online subscription and I bought a book pack of readers and activity books...
Soo jealous of your pampering day out but you so deserve it!!! Sounds great!
-
Thanks Kris, will try that for a week, see if that makes a difference :) Yeah, we got the FoTZ membership around October last year, so far we've been to the Melbourne zoo twice, Healesville twice and we'll be doing Pip's family birthday 'do' there too. Kids under 3 are free! hehe, a friend of mine has a FoTZ membership too, and she took her daughter & Pip to the zoo one day, I packed his membership card JIC and it was needed!!!
Mel - so jealous! How's this pregnancy feeling? Are you still running or will you be slowing that down a bit?
Us - today was a bad day for my depression, didn't say much at all, caused a HUGE tanty this morning when I woke up Pip and forgot to actually speak to him - DH said my first words to him were "on the potty" and after that it took DH about an hour to calm him down. I often find myself not talking to him, doing stuff silently and I guess he doesn't like that. Trev's got his "new" hilux now so we took the bikes down to the bike path between Knox City & Ferntree Gully train station, a huge day for Pip, we stopped at about 4 playgrounds! Stopped at a winery in Knox in the Old Orchard community gardens and had some free tastings, stayed there about an hour, Pip was actually helping people do weeding!!! It was lovely actually. Got home, did his dinner and he was fed before 6pm (for once!) and he was in bed & asleep by 6:30 - he was actually asking us to put him to bed as we were driving home! YAY!
Hey here's a Q - when you have your kid(s) being babysat, are you like, OCD like me and leave their medicare cards, private health cards, blue folder and any other membership cards with the carer? Or am I just paranoid?
Hope everyone's doing well....
-
Hi!
Big hugs Kaz...you're entitled to have a bad day...at least your aware of it and I think it's a really good start to be aware of how it effects Pip...It's funny because we're all different and things affect us all differently...I know the issues with my mum are completely different to my sister because my needs as a person are different to hers. It can be hard to give people (children/partners/friends) what they need when we feel depleted ourselves though...please try not to be too hard on yourself. It sounds like you had a fantastic afternoon though!! Good on you guys for getting out and doing so much!!
As for babysitting...I've only had mum/cousin really babysit the kids and it's always been in our house...however I probably wouldn't leave all that stuff - I figure if anything goes wrong I'll come and get them anyway!! I would just normally pack their practical stuff and leave a bit of a routine of how we do things...
Well, I'm such a lazy bones - another quiet day for us and heading to the chiro this afternoon! Sciatic pains picked up again at the moment but that could be because bubs keeps bouncing on my cervix and giving me the most sharp ouchy pains!! I hope he's not engaging just yet - he needs to stay put at least another couple of weeks until we get our car sorted and I finish getting all his stuff ready! LOL!
Ok...better go - should really get the boys dressed today! LOL...they basically spent the weekend in their pj's! LOL!
-
Hello lovelies!!
Wow, we have all been busy writing here!! I love to come and see everyone has dropped by! (Except Jen and (Dis)Mel, where are you girls???)
Well, I have stuffed my back. I have no idea what I have done. I just woke up yesterday and it hurt like hell! It had been achey for the week, but I had AF and as well as sitting in the car for hours travelling, I just thought that was normal, which is normal with AF, but this is actual pain, not just an ache. I haven't had pain like this since I was pg, or just after i gave birth to Lil. I can barely move! Damien has taken the day (well night actually, he's asleep now, coming off a night shift, so really no help at all at the moment, luckily the kids are being angels!) off work to help out, mind you i needed him last night. But he wouldn't take the day off even though I asked him 3 times. I couldn't bath the kids, couldn't lift Liam, barely managed to change his nappy, was in soo much pain putting him to sleep (cause we still rock him to sleep). Not a happy wifey I can tell you!! I drop everything for him when he needs me but when I need him, noooo, it's too hard!! But that's a whole other thread!
The kids are being really good lately. Though Lily is going through a stage of speaking really disrespectfully to people, especially me and Liam! I just won't answer her if she doesn't speak gently and kindly. I think partly she's trying to assert her authority, and as well as hearing DH speak like that sometimes. I tell him to listen to her and he'll hear how he speaks to me sometimes.
Kris, lol yes they have internet out there, it's actually part of the package, they will pay for internet connestions and a computer so you can stay connected. Which is good, our puter is on it's last legs!!
Mel, Gippsland sounds nice, wouldn't you go with your DH, or do you mean he would want to be close to extended family?
I won't have much of an issue being away from family. I don't get alot of support now from them and they all live 5mins drive from my house. My brothers never come to visit, one of them has never been to my place in the almost 5yrs we have lived here for, my mum comes maybe once every 3mths or so for about an hour or two and that's it. Mum and I don't really talk about important things, she gives me no practical support either. I have my nan and aunties around too, but I haven't seen my aunties since.....I don't even remember, and my nan I see occaisionally, though it's not a regular thing. Dad lives 1 1/2hrs away from us anyway, and although try to see him regularly, maybe once every month or two, he makes no effort to come to us, or call us. I don't have any friends so to speak, none that support me, or that I see more than once in a while. DH's best friend is in Canberra and we see him maybe twice a year or so. He calls us regularly to chat though. As for work, well it's just work. I'm not enjoying it as much as I was, I want to be home with the kids the most. And that's it. So for me a move this big will mostly be an adventure I think.
Ok girls gotta go, kids need attention and I need to move my back! Sorry to those I missed.
-
Kel I would move but Adam...he was the one who suggested it but I dont think he could be "so far" from his family. Sorry to hear you havent got much support. That sucks really.
Kris- hope bubs stays in for longer.
Kaz- hugs to you hun. Its funny how bad days rub off on all of us. Just this morning Olivia woke up ferral....needless to say I turned ferral too! At least you recognised it. As for the info stuff...I dont leave the girls with a great deal of people, however if they are at mums (30 minutes away) and are staying for a few days (livs only done it) I have left my medicare card with mum. I dont tend to take the blue book anywhere. I dont think your over doing it. Whatever is good for you.
I am going ok. All I wanted to do today is spew, but I cant and I wont. I am hungry but nothing appeals to me. Actually I am now starving! Better go eat before I pass out
-
OMG, Damiens just been offered the position out in Cobar....wooohoooo!!!!!!!!! We so didn't expect it this soon! We will be moving in about 12wks :o
-
CONGRATULATIONS KEL!!!
Its the bigger place, so better amneties:)
Yay!
-
Hi!
Just a quick one from me - I got another headachey/migraine this afternoon - so annoyed! I have no idea why - one minute I'm fine and then the next I get pins and needles in my hand and my lips go all numb and then get the pain behind my eye followed by the headache...lucky had some panadeine...has eased off a little and dh just gave me a bit of a neck and shoulder massage so that was nice...snoozed this arvo and tonight but there's only so much I can sleep or else I'll be up all night!
Congratulations Kel!! How very exciting!!! What a busy next 12 weeks your going to have!!
Mel - Hope your feeling well!
Kaz - Hi!
Chat later...xo
-
Oh Kris...i think your body is trying to tell you something. I hope you feel better today.
I have to make this short..Miss rebecca is eating her yoghurt with her hands!
-
Hi!
Mel - I think your right! We've had a quiet day today other than taking Louis to kinder and picking him up...I was meant to go out for dinner tonight with some friend to glen waverly but I've cancelled. I'm just feeling so tired and drained that I'm just really pulling back on all the unecessary stuff iykwim? I must say the late stages of this p/g are taking quite a toll - I feel ok physically but mentally I'm just a bit flat and drained. I guess it's too be expected really. The boys are being really good though...(most of the time - although Ethan bit dylan sooo hard today - little bugger...)
Just found out we probably have to wait until next week for our new car - grrrr! Still better that it's all getting sorted out now then when we have it!
Ok..chat later! Hope you're all well!
-
Hi all,
Kris, it sounds like it might be a good idea to take things easier for the next few weeks. I agree with Mel that it sounds like your body is telling you it's all to much. You have (almost!) had 4 children in 4 1/2 yrs! Your body needs time to relax a bit, lol! I'm glad to hear you're resting today.
No good about your car. I hope it comes soon!! I wish we could get a new car! But our old girl is doing well. Gosh, she made it to Bourke and back!! Poor old girl, she's about 14yrs old I think! Hopefully she can hold on for another 3ish yrs though, then we could get a new car, as in pretty much brand new.
Mel, yeah, no support sucks, but it also makes me proud to say that I've done it all on my own. Well with DH's support of course. He has proven his support over and over again over the years! We're here for each other. As much as I would love for my mum and extended family to be here for us they're not and mum isn't, she can't give us that and I have to try to deal with it. It makes me sad and bitter about it. But that also makes me realise what kind of mum I want to be to my kids. What kind of family values I want to instill into my family. And eventually what kind of grandma I will be to my grandkids, although that's some time off!!
Kaz, I hope you're feeling better hun. Depression sucks. I wanted nothing more than to be alone when it was at it's worst for me too. It make me retreat into myself. I just want to curl up into a ball on my own, or run away from it all. I try to go into my room on my own or go to the bathroom alone, but it's impossible here. The kids follow me everywhere. If it was filmed one day it would be comical, but it really stresses me out sometimes that I have nowhere to be alone here. On reason I want to move away to somewhere bigger. So I don't feel so confined. This little two bed unit feels soooo tiny now with 4 people in it!
As for me, well my back is still sore. Not as bad as before, but still stiff. DH is being really good to me and doing whatever I ask! Though this place is a pigsty. He just so doesn't care. I have been pottering about today, I got him to strip the beds and help me remake them. I put the bedclothes in the washing machine and put them out with some help! But the past few weeks I have been making an effort to tidy before I go to bed, make sure the kitchen is clean and the toys are packed up properly not just thrown into the toy box jumbled together. But DH has noooo idea! It's making me a little loopy! But it's kinda been nice to be and invalid and looked after rather than having to look after everyone else. Made me realise how much I actually do for everyone, and how much doesn't get done for me! Things might have to change!
So yep, Damien got the job!! The guy who hired him told him he was the best candidate and that he came up with very unique answers to the phone interview. Mind you he had the interview on Monday arvo and was offered the position a few hours later! I soooo can't wait to put in my resignation. This has all made me realise that I really jsut want to be a wife and mum right now. I don't want to work, in particular, I don't want to work in a child care centre anymore. I might do nannying or family day care but not in a centre. I might study some more too. Not sure what yet though. My thoughts are leading to Primary teaching (which I've always thought I'd do one day) or maybe something along the lines of a social worker....lol, not sure!
But this move has me excited!!! Though maybe it's too soon to speak, I'm sure if you ask me in about 8wks or so, I will be crapping my dacks!
