Willow - poor D and poor you! Hopefully the ABs will kick in soon. We don't have any food allergies in the family so I am not too concerned with the timing of things.
issy - think we might need to do sleep training here too. Took 2 hours to settle M last night. No sooner than I had settled her with a feed than she did a giant poo. Of course she had to be changed and that woke her up! I'll need to read back to see how you did it. A week doesn't sound too bad but need to have some sleep so I can function at work the next day.

M's screaming and covered in vegemite so best attend to her.

Morning all! I've had a house full of sickies (me included), but we're all starting to feel better now thank goodness. There is nothing worse than caring for 3 sick kids when you're so sick yourself! Luckily my DH was wonderful and helped me out a great deal with the kids and cleaning, etc. when he got home from work.

Issy - Wow @ Lochie taking steps! :o. He is growing up sooo fast!

Willow - You poor things :hug:. I hope you're all feeling better really soon. D is a fantastic weight!! Alana's only around 8kg (maybe just over?), but she's nice and long. I think she'll be tall and skinny somehow! Re: sleeping - I forwarded Misty the sleep advice that my chiro gave me (and I think I've forwarded you?) and I think it has worked for her too! Alana had some bad nights when she was sick though the poor thing.

Saffi - Wow, Immi is doing well at 10kg!! All my babies stay so lightweight until they're 12 months old, I'm jealous LOL! It's weird because I give birth to whoppers (Alana was 4.21kg), but they slow down once they're out :lol:. Joel is still skinny to this day! DH & I were both ultra skinny kids though, so I don't think any of our own kids have a chance. Alana is in size 0, but fits into a few size 1 tops. She's quite long which is why I think she fits into them.

Misty - Wow @ Baz walking! What a clever boy :D. You poor thing getting so sick lately :hug:. I hope you had a better night last night (after reading your thread in the Boohoo room yesterday)

MummeNurse - Eli is such a clever girl! I can't believe she can do so much at her age!

Koru - Great to hear from you :D. Alana only has two teeth too!

tippytoes - Ouch @ biting! I hope it's a phase that passes quickly!!

Ellee - Great to hear from you too :). Your DD sounds like she's going great! I hope her teeth don't give her as much grief the next time.

CheezelMonster - Sorry you are having a rough time with sleep :hug:. I hope it improves soon. Alana went through separation anxiety quite badly a month ago, but luckily it is getting better.

AFU - Alana is recovering from her cough/cold and is much happier again thank goodness. She loves music and if a song comes on the TV, she starts bopping LOL. She still isn't saying "mum" yet. But she's cruising furniture and standing for a few seconds on her own.

He was always such a great sleeper, then at about 5 months, it started to go down hill. I left it till 7 1/2 months, then decided he really needed to learn to sleep, more than 3 hours at a time (which is where it was heading!).

Issy - Ditto. EXACT same story here. Weird thing is he is just perfect during the day. He self settles every single time, no fuss, no crying, straight to sleep and sleeps for at least 1.5 hours. I often have to wake him from his day naps. Nights are a totally different story. He has been very unwell this week and is still very chesty and has a nasty cough so we are riding it out for now. The reason I've left it till this point is because we've had so much teething and sickness the last month or so. But something's got to change and I have a feeling he is still a great sleeper but we've just gotten into some bad habits overnight.

Trish - I remembered that you passed on the sleep training info to Misty. You did pass it on to me too but I guess I just wasn't ready until now. I think I have DH's support now too so that will help. I am planning on starting on a Friday night so that he is around to help. I am expecting at least 3-4 nights of very little sleep and am totally dreading it. I really hoped it wouldn't come to this :(


So I am sure I'll be back later this week to get some tips from you guys!

I have to say that I am very pleased to see this is a baby buddies thread where we support each other, no matter our different parenting styles :)

Things have improved dramatically since my last post! I made the decision to night wean last week to see if that made any difference at all to Moo's night troubles. Lo and behold he's now sleeping through :o Though we did have a few terrible nights it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But the last couple of nights have been awesome, haven't even needed to go into him. He's now having a late night feed but I'm totally ok with that, it's around 9 or 10 pm so I'm up anyway.
Have any of you started your bubs on egg yet? I don't really eat eggs so not sure how to begin, if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them! Should I just scramble a yolk up?

Another bub sleeping through, well done Cheezel! You guys are giving me hope that it can be done! I am still dreading those few really bad first nights though.

I gave D eggs first in a zuchini slice, but since then he's had scrambled with a bit of cheese and chives and he LOVES it. He's been really off his food since he's been unwell though, it's been had to get him to eat anything.

Breaking news..... M slept thru last night! Gave her a dreamfeed at 10.30 (she actually held the bottle herself) and the next thing I know its 6.20am and the alarm went off. Definitely going to do the same tonight. :crossfingers:

I always seem to be sick whenever I post here :rolleyes: Well I went to the dr today, annd she thinks I have something wrong with my gallbladder (likely gallstones). So I have to get a blood test done and an u/s next week to check it out. In the meantime I am supposed to avoid fatty foods and eating large meals (so of course I go out and have Macca's for lunch straight after my drs appointment :lol: ).

Hope everyone is well. Baz is becoming a bit of a bully. We were at playgroup yesterday and he is playing with the other babies on the floor, only he decides he wants another baby's toy - so he takes it. I tell him 'no', and give the toy back to the other baby. So baz whinges and then snatches it again. I tell him 'no' again and move him away. He turns around and crawls straight back over and when he is told 'no' again, he lays on the floor and throws a tantrum! I get him doing something else, and then turn my back for a minute next thing he is back trying to take the toy again. The mother of the other baby tells him 'no', so he cracks it completely, throws a hizzy fit and pickes up the closest toy and throws it at the other baby :o
I can just tell the toddler years are going to be fun with this one :rolleyes:

He is walking everywhere at the moment, so proud of himself and showing off - he walks over to everyone to get their attention and then clapps at himself :lol:

Willow - how are your nights going?

Saffi - well done M on sleeping through! Has she kept it up?

Misty - eeek hope it's not gallstones. Hope also that you get well asap. Sorry but I have to admit I had abit of a giggle at Baz' bullying! He sounds like a real little character!

AFM - seems I spoke too soon on Moo sleeping through! He did for a few nights but has cottoned onto whats going on! He seems to have a couple of great nights per week & the rest I've been up anywhere from 30 mins to 2.5 hours resettling him. I think I'm going to have to take a tougher approach which does upset me as it's not what I wanted to do with him.
Other than that not much has been happening here! Just enjoying watching his little personality coming through - seems he has Mummy's temper lol.

I was in hospital from thursday night until last night, gallstones. The good news is I no longer need to go and pay for an ultrasound next week, they done it in hospital, along with the bloodwork, etc. The bad news is that the surgeon didn't want to operate straight away (must have been busy with other things). So now I need to book in for surgery to have my gallbladder removed. That means no chocolate, no turkish, no other takeaway or other junk food untill after my surgery - unless I want another attack and trip to emerency and then they will probably do the surgery then... Which is actually tempting despite the pain, just so I can get the surgery quicker...

Cheezel - Nah she hasn't kept it up. The very night I posted it took 2.5hours to settle her. The next night I dosed her up on Nurofen and she slept through then. She's also been a terror to put to sleep at night as well. Actually she's a shocking sleeper full stop. I need to be tougher too.
Misty - sorry to hear about the gallstones. While its no consolation at least these days its removed by keyhole surgery. My mum had her's removed in the 80s and she has a "zipper" the whole length of her stomache. Hopefully you will get the surgery soon.

I can say tho that M has started to stand by herself. So far its only been a max of about 10 seconds. She's 10 months today so that's a milestone in itself.

Cheezel/Saffi - :hug: Sorry to hear the sleeping through didn't last. We started 3 nights ago and although we are seeing some small progress, it hasn't exactly been a huge change.

I feel the exact same way hun. Having started out so well it really upsets me that it's come to this. But at the same time, he is 10 months old now, I don't think it is unreasonable for me to expect him to sleep most of the night (right now our plan is a dream feed at 9.30/10pm and then no b/feeds until 5am) most nights iykwim?

We have also decided to take the Safe T Sleep wrap off his cot and let him learn to sleep without it. Which has meant my perfect day sleeper is no longer either! That has been hard because never having to worry about his day sleeps was kinda my saving grace. Now he is sitting and standing in his cot etc and not self settling very well at all. I've also been using a dummy on and off the last few days. He's never really had a dummy and it's not really something I wanted to introduce but the kid's gotta sleep.

I'm giving it a week or so of trying our new settling plan and if we don't see a big improvement, then I will go back to doing whatever works. It's just too hard to keep going this way long term.

This too shall pass....

misty - Sorry to hear about the gallstones! My brother and a girlfriend of mine both had theirs out last year. They recovered quite well and as Saffi said, the keyhole surgery these days means a much quicker recovery. My friend actually did what you said - brought on an attack on purpose so they would do her surgery asap, she just couldn't stand the pain and the waiting any longer. Congrats on the weight loss too - very impressive!!

Can you believe our little babies are going to be coming up to their first birthdays soon :o

Time is just flying by, and Baz is really more of a toddler now then a baby. He has so much personality. :)

Issy/Misty/Trish - Seriously....shouldn't I be seeing some progress by now? Cause I'm not :( He is settling for bed much better and putting himself to sleep with me going in and out frequently but last night he woke at 12.30am and I didn't get back to sleep till about 3am. NOT good. I seriously feel like throwing in the towel. And DH and I had the biggest argument about it at 3am! He is the one who has been wanting to try this for months and now that we're giving it a go, he's whinging about losing his precious sleep :wall:

Postitives - His day sleeps yesterday were MUCH improved. A bit of grizzling when I put him down but asleep within about 5 mins and two nice long naps. So hopefully that's the end of the wrap. He isn't feeding overnight. We do a dreamfeed at 9.30pm and then he doesn't feed again till 5am at the earliest (and then goes back to sleep of course).

Apart from that, it all sucks :(

Misty - gallstones sounds awful - my MIL had her gallbladder removed last year - was in horrendous pain before hand (hers was emergency surgery). Hope you get yours seen to soon!
Sounds like there's lots of babes with erratic night sleeping at the mo. Orla seems to be finally cutting her top 2 teeth so we've had a run of bad nights too (hmmmmm thought the amber necklace was supposed to stop this - maybe we got a dud? or maybe it would be even worse without it :o )
She's standing unaided quite well now and starting to 'cruise' - though this means every cupboard and shelf is fair game for removal of contents - our house looks like a cyclone's just hit! :shakehead:
Well I'd better get back to the job hunting - not planning on returning til september but part-time positions are like hens teeth in my industry so it pays to hound people early!.....

Willow - sorry you are having a hard time of it in regards to sleep. Honestly over the last week we have gone backwards again, because I have been sick and DH has taken over. We aren't bad yet, but Bas has ended up in bed with us for the last three nights (why is it that when it's me getting up, it is fine for me to spend half the night resettling the baby and getting no sleep, but when it is DH's turn he gives up after 5mins and then gumbles about how crappy he's sleep was :rolleyes: :wall: )
I plan on going back to basics again tonight and not allowing DH back in the bedroom with the baby at all - I am planning complete tantrums and turning all the lights on and lots of noise if he tries.
I don't have any real advice except perhaps perserverence - but I know through experience that not even that will work with all babies... Good luck and hold in there....

It was getting to a point with Moo that when he woke in the night my stomach would drop & I'd instantly feel sick. Misty - yeah less than 2 months until M's birthday. I actually bought her present the other day. I've bought an adult sized bracelet to make into a charm bracelet for her with a charm for significant milestones like her 1st birthday, starting school etc. Also got a baby bangle for her to wear now. Don't know what we'll do for a party. What's everyone else thinking of doing?
Issy/Rach - how are you guys doing?

Things going well here (apart from she DOESN'T sleep). But feeding is going really well and she loves finger food. Seriously, the kid will eat anything - cauliflower pieces, broccoli, zucchini you name it. Her diet is better than DS and he's nearly 3! She's standing more by herself and she's got a great little personality so I can't complain.
