Hi Girls!

Hi Rose - what is that infection that you mentioned? I'm not sure what I had exactly, it had some long winded name but it was a staph infection of the amniotic fluid of some sort! Apparently very rare and very deadly.....awesome - not!!!! :o Puts the old c-section into perspective though!

Hi BS - you're so good for doing that exercise, I need to get my act together and kick this chub so I can fit into my clothes again! I'm so over wearing the same 4 dresses over and over.

AFM - Well somebody pinch me! Amelia slept 9 hours the night before and just did 10 last night! Is this normal? Not that I'm complaining and I know it sounds funny but the last 2 nights she's completely slept through her last feed for the night, I haven't woken her expecting her to wake midnight or thereafter instead but nope! I wonder if the cot has made the difference?

Oh and I got my new pram yesterday and I love it! Got the Kingfisher Blue, it's a real greeny blue and it's so pretty ha ha. The pram is wider than my other one at the back but it's still super easy to push and it folds sooooo easily, yay! It's probably a tad heavier but the seat comes off so it ends up about the same if you separate the seat and base. Can't wait to take it for a proper walk.

Is everyone else finding they're out so much they have no time to relax??? Amelia has been in and out of the car so many times each day, probably why she's sleeping so long, I'm tiring her out. I need to stop committing to so much I think!

I can't remember what everyone has said so sorry if I've missed people's specific comments. Haven't been on for a couple of days so have got a little behind, terrible! My sister just phoned crying, she has reporters at her front door. My brother in law was on the news the other night - he works for the Police Dept helping to set the laws and there's dramas with the new law for this search thing, he made a comment to the media and has been copping flack for it from his work since, he went on stress leave because of it the other day. My sister being like she is wrote to the minister and is now in the West Australian today if anyone is in Perth have a squiz (I haven't seen it yet) and apparently the news now want to do a story ha ha. She loves drama but I think she might've created more than she bargained for now!

Gotta run, pooey nappy awaits!

Sorry everyone, this is going to be a completely selfish post. I feel like crap. My neck and back have been really good lately and I think I got a bit over confident and tried to breastfeed without a pillow while we were out yesterday and I've completely buggered my back. I feel like someone has stabbed me in the centre of my back around my bra line. I've got pain and tingling in my arm as well. It has been so good to feel like I'm coping and now I feel like its all going to s*&%. And Matilda won't sleep. Everytime I get her to sleep she wakes up about 10 minutes later. Which means I'm probably in for a horror evening tonight. She is just so bad at sleeping during the day unless we're in the car. And its not like she doesn't need it. She's in a horrible state by the end of the day when she cat naps like this. When my back is like this even folding up laundry is a drama. Let alone carrying a 5.5kg baby, burping her, feeding her, trying to be in a good mood for her! So I feel like a crap mother to boot. I think I'm in real danger of getting depressed. Sorry for dumping all this on you all.

Hi Tilda - you poor girl are you ok? Silly question, obviously not! Are you having any treatment for your back etc? I understand as I have a terrible neck/shoulder which was so much better after going on maternity leave and staying off the computer solidly all day but it's up crap again too from carrying Amelia and feeding etc. I don't have a proper feeding pillow so use my maternity pillow but must get one. I have such knots in my muscles at the moment every time I move my shoulder or neck I feel it pinging.....you'd know what I mean. If you really feel that down go see your doctor so you can get something to help you feel better. Amelia is catnapping as well in the day so it's hard to get anything done - she's currently asleep in her new pram and I'm not touching her!!! Fortunately though she's sleeping really well at night.....at the moment!

My whinge is that the girl from work who had her baby last weekend is irking me. I think she's going to turn the babies into a competition which I did fear. She's already bragging about how much milk she has and how she can express a full bottle in 15 minutes knowing full well I have issues and it takes me 3 days to get that much. Anyone else saying it wouldn't bother me but it does her for some reason. Also, she said that Georgia is already crawling at 1 week old so she must be an early learner - I was like, WTF!!!! I just replied and said that she might be in for an active bub then..... lol. I can't be bothered listening to this comparison thing all the time - again I have all my aqua class and mothers group friends and no-one makes me feel like that at all, just her.:wall: Even in hospital last week she was rubbing in that she got the deluxe double room, I only got the double room and also she was the 30,000th person to give birth at that hospital (we were at the same one with the same OB) so she got a massive gift basket from the hospital and her photo in the local paper. I don't care but she made a big thing about it like showing off. I probably sound jealous but I'm not, if you knew her I think you'd get what I mean. :redface: Why is it always the people who kick up a fuss and moan about life who get all the perks, sods law huh girls!

Oh and I bought the new pram yesterday, the one I wanted and I absolutely love it love it love it, it's so easy to put up and down and so nice to push and Amelia's up nice and high. I got the blue colour, it's kind of an green blue, it's gorgeous. :dance:

Anyway, hope you feel better soon Tilda:hug: and hope everyone else is having a great day. Sorry to moan and sound horrible.

Tilda - Hang in there! You are NOT a crap mother, and being depressed is perfectly normal. Don't be afraid to talk about it, you can always call beyondblue if you're really unsure about your feelings.

Alison - Just quickly, Georgia is so not crawling, this a reflex that many newborn babies have which helps them find the breast after birth. It will disappear in a month or two.

Just thought I'd pop in to write a quick note.

Tilda - would be great to catch up with you and the other Perth girls while you are over! Sorry to hear you are having a rough time. I know its easier said than done...but you really must believe that it WILL get better. Because it will. Its probably just a phase Matilda is going through. As for your back, can you go to a chiro or something?

Alison - I got my period too...same day as you only during the night! Fancy that! It's been a fairly light one really...I was expecting a heavy downpour for some reason... Your new pram sounds lovely! I'm pretty happy with mine so far..only thing is getting it in and out of the boot is damaging it :( A cap has already come off and I can see marks and stuff on it. Grrr! We were going to get a bigger car, but decided against it...we don't want to stretch ourselves too far financially while I'm not at work. And what a load of rubbish about that girl from work's baby crawling at 1 week! I very much doubt a 1 week old will have enough muscle development and strength to put one arm out to support itself, never mind coordinate all 4 limbs at once! Pfft, she's in la-la land!

Rose- you've been putting up some great pics and movies on fb...he's so CUTE!! I love it when they try to talk...Michael is starting to make different noises now too.

BS - how is Eva today? Any better?

Suz - Congrats on the DTD! I haven't been brave enough yet...esp with my mum sleeping here too! My poor DH! I've just started back on the pill, the full pill as I'm not BF anymore ( :( )

Carmey - sorry to hear about those dodgy calls...are you still getting them? I'd report it to the police perhaps? Must be v scary.

Hello to everyone I have missed!!!

AFM - been spending heaps of time with my mum, as I mentioned. Michael is going well...has bath at 5.30pm, feeds at 6pm, bed at 7pm, feeds some time between 3-5am, bed again then up at around 8am, feeds 9am, then 1.30pm, then 6pm....etc, etc. He seems to have got himself pretty much into that routine, I've only had to tweak it here and there. Drinking between 240-300ml a feed (formula fed, remember). Sleeping during the day is another issue entirely...he rarely sleeps longer than 40 mins or so, prolly about 3 or 4 times during the day. The rest of the day he's awake... Its very tiring trying to keep them occupied, isn't it!!

Someone metioned about the grunting...thank goodness Michael isn't the only one!!! Lordy he makes a racket when he sleeps. He will sleep like a log till about 1.30am, then he tosses and turns, grunts ALOT, farts like I don't know what, sometimes makes these cute little sighing noises. I'm hanging out till we move him into his own room, which I think I will do fairly soon...just got to get some block-out curtains and then we will. I'm reading Sleep Sense which says that babies get a memory of where they sleep when they're about 4 months old so if you are going to move them into their own room then try to do it before then (or something like that). Hopefully it works!

Does everyone have that wonderful moment when their babies wake in the morning and they see you and give you the biggest smile? Oh thats my favourite thing ever, I love it!

MIL still in hospital, has an infection at the mo, but the docs have put her on antibiotics so hopefully they do the trick. Sesame - how is your dad?

Okies girls...as much as I don't want to I must sign off now. I've only got 1 hour till my new bedtime (9pm - so sick of going to bed early tho...I wanna stay up with my mummy, or watch a movie with DH...but the sleep calls me...)

PS - Michael's Christening tomorrow!!! Eeeek! 60 ppl invited...I hope we have enough food!!!

Hi Beany - so lovely to hear from you! That's great you're having fun with your mummy, when does she go back? OMG we do everything the same lol....my period was super light too, only last a couple of days and was nothing that I expected, turned into more of a pale coloured bloody discharge (sorry TMI) yours too? Weird! Michael sounds like he's doing so well, go the formula huh, I think that's what helps Amelia sleep so long at night too and stay in a routine. It's great to talk to someone else who FF's. I still give Amelia a boob before a bottle but I don't know how much she gets, she's only on for 5 mins each side :o. You've made me wonder though as I'm only giving her 125mls of formula, should I be giving her more? Unless the boob is giving more than I think?! Can't wait to catch up with you and Tilda soon. Get back on soon, we miss you! And don't worry, 9.30 pm is my bed time too, ha ha! Oh and have fun at the christening tomorrow, I must organise Amelia's....DH isn't so keen but mum keeps asking and I'd like to! Let us know how it goes. And yes, the smiles are the greatest, melts your heart huh! xx

Tilda, we seriously have the same baby! Eva has been really unsettled the past two days too...Just waking up every time I put her down...I know it is really "bad" but have you tried putting her to sleep on her belly? Eva totally passes out that way. And have you gotten her a dummy yet? If not, this might be a good time. It really helps them settle. I know how you feel but don't. I am physically exhausted and feel like crap, and ugly and fat and in pain and tired - you name it. You are a wonderful mother or else you would not be on here and always looking for solutions and always doing exactly what she needs, therefor feeling tired (which is normal since you are a slave to the baby, meaning a wonderful mother!) - don't beat yoruself up for all this stuff - some days are better than others and I get you. I have days (like today for that matter) where I just feel like falling apart. I can't even get to bed since I am so tired...it will poass and will get better and soon she will be calmer. You're almost at three months, Just wait a bit...See if DH can take her for two hours while you go have a hot bath and quiet time. You'd be amazed at how wonderful you will feel after a small break.

Alison, some people are just annoying. I get you. Those bragger types are always annoying and if they are stupid to boot, you just don't get how they get so lucky!

Beany, great to hear from you! Enjoy your mum! It is so great to have family around and yay for Micahel being such a wonderful boy...What a nice schedule :) I love mornings, Eva talks and coos and giggle for a good half hour during her morning change, and washup...They are getting so much more beautiful every day, aren't they? Eva was doing really well for about a week and has been gassy and crying the past two days. i hope it passes...I need the rest! I don't get excited for any changes since I am not sure how long they will stay :)

I need to consider the 9:30 bedtime...it might help me feel better but I can't seem to get to bved once she's down since I want to get things done...but I am wearing myself a bit thin...and not getting thinner...lol

Hi Rachel - welcome to our thread, everyone here is fantastic, we're all great friends even though we haven't met lol! Congrats on the birth of your little girl, what are your kiddies names? I am interested to hear your story as we just had our first baby - Amelia on the 30th November by emergency c-section and will probably try and fall pregnant again in 12 months or a little less depending on how I feel! I'm 37 this year so don't want to wait too long. Is it hard with the age difference?.....the OB says I can start trying when Amelia is 8 months but we haven't decided yet, seems a bit scary atm! We too found out at my check up the other day that the infection I had picked up while in labour was a rare and deadly staph infection of the amniotic fluid so it's extremely lucky Amelia didn't die, so given that we just want to enjoy her for a while. I hated having a c-section as it wasn't expected but am fine with it now, especially given that information, it saved her life, thank goodness for my wonderful OB! Will probably have to have another next time though unfortunately. Such is life! I am enjoying being a mum so much, even the difficult days although I do feel blessed to have a very good baby, she's sleeping 9 hours at night at the moment since I put her in her cot a week ago, I think she loves the space. The only issue I'm having currently is my milk supply so she's being BF'd and then FF'd with a bottle each feed, I feel bad but what can I do, she has to eat, need to get over feeling guilty about that.

Anyway, that's my story very quickly, look forward to chatting with you some more!

Hi BS - I hear you on the weight thing, I feel so gross, I need to lose 6 kgs and tone up, badly - I can't wear any of my pre pregnancy clothes unless they're dresses, so depressing!

I did get my new pram though and I love it so am determined to start walking everyday now and shift some of this flab!

Welcome Rachel. It's always exciting to have someone new join in. Don't worry too much about catching up on the thread - it could take you awhile! I had a baby girl, Matilda, on 6 December. She was supposed to be a planned CS, but it ended up being an 'emergency' CS by definition because my waters broke a week early. But it was all a great experience that I will never forget.

Hi BS - are we living parallel lives or something?? We must catch up for a coffee next time I'm in Brussels :D Thank you for all your support! I'm feeling much better today. My back is still touchy but its not the disaster I was worried it was going to be. Its just when you've had bad injuries before the threat of a reinjury really gets you panicky. DH was a complete godsend this morning and tokk Matilda so I could sleep in for a couple of hours, Matilda was hysterical again tonight due to lack of sleep. Its so hard isn't it when you know they need to sleep but they just fight it! We tried a dummy a week or so ago and it settled her to begin with but within about 5 minutes it had dropped out of her mouth and we went back to square one. So we thought it might just create another issue. Anyway, take care of yourself. You're sounding so tired too. Being Sunday morning over there, I'm hoping your DH was able to give you a sleep in too.

Alison, Beany, and Rose, it will be great to catch up in perth in a couple of weeks! Will be in touch about it.

Tilda, I tried four dummies before finding one that worked well. I would really suggest you try to find a shape that helps her - you have NO IDEA what w godsend it is, especially for babies like ours :) - With Eva I had to give it to her a few times before she took it, like the bottle - rememeber we have babies that love staying attached to the nipple, so they have to understand that they can satisfy their sucking urge from something that is not us...You are invited to lunch or dinner at my place if you're ever on my side of the pond! We have to introduce these two! lol

As for me, wanted a sleep in but left baby with DH in bed and got a bunch of stuff done instead! Heres hoping for that 9pm bedtime today :crossfingers:

Rachel - Welcome! By all means try to read this thread and catch up, but honestly we 'talk' so much you're better off just jumping in with both feet! I'm a 2nd time Mummy too, my eldest son Craig is nearly 2 1/2 and my baby boy Ryan is 10 weeks. Ryan was a drug free natural birth (VBAC) and Craig was a C-section (undiagnosed breech). Technically we belong in the November Baby Buddies, but Ryan's due date was 9 Dec so I was in the Dec Belly Buddies and love these girls too much to leave.

Alison - I understand perfectly about how your work colleague with the new baby gets under your skin. No one has the perfect baby so don't worry, reality will hit her hard before very long. I don't wish the baby blues on anyone, but I know that all of us here have had at least one really low point in the first 2 months.

Tilda - :hug: I really hope it gets better for you. I have no back issues and my neck and shoulders are painful from lugging around these giant boobs and BFing. That's really great that your DH was able to give you a break. I haven't had a chance to post these last couple of days, but my suggestion was to get out with the pram and take her for a walk. That used to help me with Craig when he was crying and even if he didn't stop then I felt better.

BS - Don't worry hun, if your FB pics are anything to go on then you're absolutely gorgeous! You're my hero for keeping up the makeup with a new baby. I haven't worn makeup for months :( The weight will melt off, you're certainly putting in the hard yards with your personal trainer and the elliptical trainer.

Beany - Hope Michael's Christening goes well and that you enjoy every moment you have your Mum here before she goes home. I'm really sorry that you weren't able to BF, but don't feel guilty. Michael is getting the nourishment he needs and you have your sanity. You will have the chance to try again to BF with your next baby. I hope the antibiotics sort out your MIL's infection.

Sesame - Hope Liam has been good since his immunisations.

AFM - Ryan has been quite unsettled with lots of crying periods, wind, painful poos and fussy feeding since his immunisation on Friday. It's made me realise what a good baby he's been up until now! We are going for Morning Tea with our Mother's Group tomorrow so I hope he's more settled. DH is away this weekend and I'm really glad we stayed here. Travelling with a fussy baby would have been horrible. Suz - I wonder why Ryan is so unsettled? One of the girls in my mother's group is going throught the same thing. I wonder if it's a growth thing? Hope he settles down soon.

BS - did you have your walk? I need to get out of the house too. Oh, and I've been meaning to ask you - are you still with your trainer? Does he give you new exercises for post-pregnancy or just your old ones? I've decided to get my old trainer back to whip me into shape and I was wondering if he'll give me new things to do seeing that I'm sooooo unfit! We'll see!

Alison - one thing that might help your supply is drinking HEAPS of water. I would drink more than 2 litres a day and I have plenty. I also find that if I rest I will have more after it. That's why you tend to have less after a long day and plenty in the mornings. Maybe that could help, too?

Everyone else - hope you're all doing fabulously!

ATM - I have news. Jack slept for 7 hours on thursday and 7.5 last night! I have no idea what has changed but I'm not complaining. We went up to mum's on the weekend so he was out of routine and didn't sleep well Friday and Saturday but as soon as we were home he was good again. Yipeeee!

I was worried he would never sleep for long periods because he feeds for 5 mins at a time, but apparently that ain't a problem! :lol:

Beany - Wow! Micheal sounds like he's doing beautifully! He's definitely eating well, I can't seem to encourage Liam to take more than about 100mLs, hence I'm feeding every couple of hours. And yes, the morning smiles are fantastic aren't they. :)
Thanks for asking about Dad, I forgot it's been so long since I've been here. Dad passed away 8 days after Liam was born. We managed to get Liam up to the hospital for a visit and Dad passed two days after that. We're all doing well, just glad that Dad's not suffering anymore.

I hope Micheal's christening was beautful!

AFM - I have news too! Liam slept through Friday and Saturday night! Both nights he went down and 10 and woke up at 5:30. Bliss!!!!! We were up at 3:30 this morning, but I really don't mind, it was just great to have a little break.
Today's just whizzed by! DH is home already, and I'm off to teach a yoga class.....and maybe have a coffee in there somewhere too!

Jett has been good. We have got his wind handled with infacol and he has started pooing daily now (instead of once every 5 days) since he is having prune juice.

Sorry I have not been on as often as I would like. This being a mum takes up all my time. But I wouldn't change it for anything.

Sesame - Oh I'm so very sorry to hear about your Dad :( It must have been nice for him to see little Liam. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. :comfort: Thats great he's sleeping from 10-5.30!! Thats fantastic!

Alison - Yeah, I'm still wearing preggy stuff :( I went shopping with my mum & sis on Saturday and bought a heap of stuff in the next size up than my pre-preg size thinking that should be heaps. But alas...:(....everything I bought was still too small. I'm not returning them tho, I'm sure I'll lose the weight....eventually....won't I???! Perhaps Amelia is getting more than you think from the boob? But from what the CHN said, Michael seems to be an exception, feeding only 4 times a day at 240-300mls a time. He's a right little piggy!! So Amelia is prolly getting enough, I'm sure she's let you know if she wasn't!

Tilda - I know the feeling when you know and they know they need to sleep but they just fight it. Thats what Michael is like during the day...as soon I position him in my arms to put him down, he starts bawling. Its really hard cos he won't take a dummy when he's all upset like that...so its like...well what do I do then?!! I'm coping by sometimes picking him up if he's really bad, or standing over his bassinet & singing to him or talking to him until he calms down (that seems to work most the time). Oh, and the dummy both the paed and the CHN recommended to us was Happy Baby...they have longer teats on them and fill the mouth more. I was worried about any damage that may cause to their mouth development and the paed said it won't cause any damage/malformations or anything. Michael doesn't seem to take it for long anyway, he spits it out when he's asleep.

BS - oh yes, I saw that pic of the forest too...sooo lovely! I grew up around the Lake District in UK so I'm used to doing that sort of walking...I miss it so much! There just isn't really anywhere like that here...unless you want to "go bush" I guess...but then its too hot....wahwahwah...there goes the whingeing pom in me!

Suz1 - Oooh gosh, do you think it was the immunisations that caused him to be so unsettled? Michael has his on Friday...I dont' want to take him!!! How was your morning tea? Yeah, thats what I keep telling myself...I hope my boobs work for the next bub!

Lani - It does take up all our time, doesn't it! Esp when they won't sleep during the day!! Tho, I must say, I'd rather that than not sleeping at night...anyday!

AFM - Christening went absolutely perfectly!!!! Michael was a complete angel, he was awake for most the service, just looking around. Didn't cry once, then fell asleep after he'd had the water on his head. Then back at our house (we did have enough food..phew!), he was getting passed from one person to the next and he only got upset a couple of times. He would have been awake for a good 3-4 hours, with so much noise and the rest of it...he's such a little trooper. Then he slept for a bit, I had to wake him for his bath & feed, then he slept till 6.15am!!!!!!!!!!! Tho, I think that was purely just cos he was worn out from the day. But I'm not complaining!! He's been a bit cranky today tho, maybe thats from yesterday I dunno. DH mum was able to get a couple of hours out of the hospital so she came to the service, tho because of the nurse taking her time she only made it 5 mins before the end. But it was great that she got to see her grandson in the gown that she christened her own kids in.

All in all, it was a wonderful day - even if I only ate one sausage roll all day and no drink! :lol: (seriously, I don't think I went to the loo in about 9 hours - thats baaad) Plus, sis has new boyf who is just fantastic...fingers crossed he's the one this time!!!
