Hey Alison - yeah, I wondered about the milk before solids thing too. To be honest I sometimes mix it up and give him the milk before the solids, it just depends. But I think Tizzie Hall's theory is that they sleep better after milk - she says that they should have milk just before sleep.
You were so smart doing that routine from 9 weeks - I've spent so many nights up and down trying to get Jack back to Dreamland. I will def do it for the next one, too!
Where do you get the grobags from? I have jack in this sleeping bag thing but I need to get more.
Carmey - Great to see you found a solution for Jack's waking at night for his dummy! Ryan has settled himself in to a routine that looks a lot like the one you have with Jack. Here's the one from Babylove that I used for Craig, for comparison. Ryan's already roughly following this routine by himself, except I was BFing when he woke up and then giving him cereal after an hour. But this morning he refused the breast until after he'd had his rice cereal, so I'm going to start following this one for him too. This one's milk first only if they wake early, then it's food first milk second every time after that.
For six months and beyond...
5 AM TO 6 AM: Breastfeed or bottle. **Ryan's still asleep here**
7 AM TO 8.30: If your baby sleeps this late, offer her breakfast as soon as she wakes (choose something from the dietsheet on page 424) before her breastfeed - give her a breastfeed straight after her food.
9 AM TO 11 AM: Bed - after some morning team (if she wants it - see diet sheet). Baby may sleep from forty minutes to two hours.
12 NOON TO 1.30 PM: Make sure she's up by 1.30 at the latest - it's okay to wake her. Give her lunch - choose something from the diet sheet and give her a breastfeed, bottle or cup after her food.
2 PM TO 3 PM: Bed but make sure she's up by 4 pm and keep her up until bed at 7 or 7:30pm. Baby may sleep forty minutes to two hours.
4 PM: Afternoon tea (if she wants it). You'll probably need to devote this time to amusing her or going for a walk. **Ryan BF's here**
6 PM: Dinner - choose something from the diet sheet.
6.30 PM: Bath followed by breastfeed or bottle.
7 TO 7.30 PM: Bed.
For anyone wanting yet another opinion on how much sleep our babies should be getting and when, it goes on to say that 'Total sleeping in the day varies from one to three hours. Changing from two to one daytime sleeps happens any time between nine months and fifteen months and depends a lot on what time baby wakes in the morning. Babies who catnap (only sleep for thirty to forty-minute stretches) do better having several small sleeps throughout the day. Trying to 'make' babies who catnap sleep for longer periods is usually not possible.'
Alison - We've tried chicken, beef and fish so far. I just puree up what I've cooked for the rest of us. It was fish pie tonight (Barramundi) and Bolognaise with wholemeal pasta the other night. If you have steak or chicken breast that you've cooked (or just cook a small amount in the microwave) you just blend it with some boiled water to get the right consistency. Ryan's not as excited about fish as he was about bolognaise.
AFM - It is freezing here! The last two days have been sub zero and frosty.
Hope everyone is nice and warm! Off to make myself a hot cuppa.
Hi Carmey - at least you know for next time. Some babies do it on their own (lucky people) - I feel like I've "trained" Amelia but it's not harmed her, in fact I think it's helped her as she's quite a relaxed baby - she really only cries and kicks up a fuss when she's tired or ill - she doesn't even fuss for her food anymore, unless she sees it and she's hungry, but even then she has this little almost giggle like sound, it's quite funny. Re the Grobags, you can sometimes get lucky and get new ones on Ebay, I personally prefer brand new with things like this so haven't bought second hand. But the most recent one I bought online from a website that some of the proceeds go to SIDS - they are only a little cheaper than David Jones/Myer (where you can buy them) but at least some of the money goes to a good cause. They are a little exxy (around $70/80) but they do last ages and I think worth it. I've tried a couple of other brands, Slumbersacs are good too - and they are a lot cheaper (find them on Ebay brand new) but I do prefer the Grobag brand. I can FB you the website I bought mine from if you like?
Well, best run, DH is down the farm for the night putting in heating ready for the weekend visit so I'm on my own, trying to bath and feed - now that's done it's my turn to shower and eat lol! Have a great night girls. xx
Hey girls, no time for persies - am leaving for nyc tomorrow and Eva stayed home all week since she still has runny poo...no sign of teeth yet and her nappy rash is healing. She had scabs left on her bottom for a few days and now they are starting to fade. I just hope the flight is ok. She seems to be fine except for the runny poo so I believe it is the teeth.
I will try to write when I am there or in ten days when I get back!
Hi BS - yay for NYC, have fun mate, I'm jealous!!! Amelia has done a few runny poo's the last week, I definitely think it's teeth but hope Eva goes well on the flight regardless. xx
Hi Everyone else, how are we all? Did anyone watch the return of Packed to the Rafters last night? I laughed my head off watching, it was like watching myself in the early days with her stressing about breastfeeding etc! Gosh I love that show, it's so real lol.
Question for everyone, Amelia does this thing with her wrist where she flicks it up and down (like rolls it) and opens and closes her fist over and over again. Is this just a developmental thing or is it strange ha ha - anyone else's bubs doing it? It looks cute but I have noticed she's doing it more and more, moreso with her right hand. ) It's like she's going "abracadabra" LOL
BS - I hope the flight goes okay. Poor little Eva. You're sooo lucky to be jetting off to NYC. What a life you lead! I was just looking at those pics of Eva in the swimming pool, they are amazing. The colours are fantastic and Eva is truly beautiful!
Alison - I didn't watch it but now i wish I did! And as for the wrist thing, Jack does something very similar. It's very cute. Must be them learning about movement of the wrists. I saw on FB that you said Amelia can use her thumbs? That's pretty amazing! What does she do?
Suz - thanks for your routine, looks good. It does look very similar to the one I'm using. I hope you didn't think I was being forceful with my posting of my routine; I just wrote it with excitement because it's the first time in nearly 7 months that Jack has slept properly. I wouldn't expect anyone to actually listen to my opinion!
Everyone else - are you as cold as I am? It's sooooo cold! BS, I'm sure you're enjoying warm weather, lucky thing. It's horrible here at the moment.
ATM - Jack was off his solids and the boob today, plus he was tugging at his little ears. I suspect it's more teeth - I can't imagine what he'll look like with the top ones! For the ladies still breastfeeding, have you had a nip yet? Jack hasn't given me one, thankfully, but he does bite my finger if I'm silly enough to get it near his mouth.
Anyway, less talking, more sleeping. Night girls. xxx
Just a real quick one....Alison, Michael is doing the EXACT same thing!!!! I say he is casting his spells Its just his right hand, he sort of twirls & twists it around and looks at it. Soooo cute!
All of these bubs sprouting teeth! I suspect that Liam will be cutting his first teeth soon based on behaviour (but I've thought that before). I'm pretty sure that I got my first teeth sometime in my seventh month, as did DH, so Liam is due anytime soon.
Alison - I'm going to have to keep an eye out to see if Liam does that or not!
BS - Poor little Eva! I'm glad her rash is clearing up now. Had she had anything acidic to eat? I know someone whose bub had a similar thing happen the first time they tried pineapple.
Urgh, I lack the brain for proper personal replies. Hi to everyone else! I have been reading everything, just not getting around to posting enough.
Liam's been pretty fussy the last few days - chewing on everything like mad, and his little cheeks are bright red. I'm thinking teeth. Thankfully he's still been sleeping somewhat well. Last night he needed a lot of resettling and woke once at 4am. He woke around that time the last few nights and has been *wide* awake and chatty. Both times I've fed him, made sure he's not wet and then just put him back into bed, because it's too damn cold to stay up. Last night he whinged for a bit and eventually put himself to sleep. He's made such huge strides in being able to settle himself, it's amazing.
And today he was up on his hands and knees properly for the first time. Uh oh, crawling, here we come!
Hi Girlfriends! Yay she's not weird then LOL - isn't it funny! Obviously they are working out how their wrists and hands work.....Beany, Amelia does it mostly with her right hand too, obviously going to be right handed our bubs! And Carmey, she has a few toys that you have to flick a little lever or something on to turn on music etc and she's been using her thumbs, she really concentrates when she does it - obviously just discovered her thumbs work too. This is a fascinating age to watch - I found myself even just staring at her while she was watching her fave cartoon yesterday (Waybuloo) and I was amazed at her little eyes staring, then blinking - not sure why as it's just a normal movement but I was still fascinated. She turned 7 months today, gosh girls, where has that time gone, must be almost time for another but gosh I love her, I can't imagine sharing her hee hee.
Oh and Carmey, I'm so glad the sleeping thing is working, it's great to share your routine, we can all learn from each other after all! And yes re the teeth, I put my finger in Amelia's mouth today as I was curious and OMG how sharp are they! I don't know how you ladies are BF'ing but I take my hat off to you all.
So who's heading to the toy sales tomorrow? I'm thinking of laybying for her Birthday and Chrissie - Kmart have some good things.......I can see this is going to get expensive as they get older, little trikes and the like! I've seen the cutest pink toy quad bike too.......very tempted to get her one for the farm, even though it's just a play thing. hee hee
Hope everyone is well. xx

BS have a great trip. Hope Eva's bottom clears up. Poor little one.
Alison Jett is doing the same thing DH says he is riding his motorbike hehe they say 7mth they realize their wrists move seperately to their fingers def. a development milestone.
I am planning to go to the toy sale tomorrow to get some cool things for Jett. I can see it getting more expensive every year.
Thank you for the routines girls.
Well I had a pead. appt for Jett today. We have a few issues that need some further testing :-(
we have to go for a head ct on Friday. Jetts head has had a large increase in size. They are checking to see the fluid levels, check there are no bleeds on the brain or no growths. I am trying to remain positive and fingerscrossed it's nothing and Jett just has a large head. We also have to go for skinpric tests for allergies. I also have a care plan for his excema. So overall not a great outcome.
Well I must go Jett has just woken argh
Sorry if I have missed anyone it's not intentional I am not thinkng clearly.
Lani - OMG, you must be feeling so stressed with little Jett's paed app outcome. Did they say it's normal for the head growth thing? Poor little Jett. Let's hope it's all okay - sending you lots of positive vibes. xx
Rose - the hands and knees was how Jack started, I think it was three days after that he was off. So you better get baby-proofed asap! I wasn't and we've paid for it. Another thing that I never thought about was to keep the floors free of anything that they can put in their mouths. I have caught Jack picking up tiny bits of plastic and paper and promptly shoving it in his gob. Scary! Good luck!!
Alison - that's a good idea to lay-by toys now. Good thinkin'! I might go out and check out what they have.
Everyone else, hope you have a lovely day. We're off to have lunch with a girlfriend on mine in the city. I'm thinking yum cha. YUMMM.
Hi Lani - you poor thing that must be so worrying.....try not to worry too much though, my nephew had a very large head and they sent him for scans etc as well, he's now 20 and doing journalism at Uni, he's really smart! So, he just had a big head, hey, must be all those brains Jett has! xx Let us know how you go, will have everything crossed for you.
Good luck at the toy sales everyone, I can't get there till the arvo as I'm having my hair done this morning....there'll probably be nothing left by the time I get there. With the Toys R Us sale yesterday one of the girls from mums group got there before they opened to get one of the Little Tykes cars and she said within 30 mins they were sold out. Who can be bothered being that keen! For starters Amelia has a 9.00 am nap so I can't even get the shops unless I leave her home with someone. Oh well, I'll get whatever's left lol.
Hi Suz - I was at the farm on the weekend and haven't much time to get on since! I'm finding it harder and harder as Millie Moo gets more demanding lol. Hows your 12 week challenge going? Mine has been disappointing, we're in the last week and I've only lost half of the weight I wanted to lose in the 12 weeks. I've been so slack. I'm on a mission now, meal replacement shakes for lunch as it's better than picking at crap and doing a workout DVD every day if possible. I'm starting Zumba classes next Monday night too, can't wait, should be a laugh! Amelia is well although I think we're heading into another wonder week and more teething, just when you think you're safe! She's been fussing and occasionally waking at night again, she's happy though so I don't mind, I think she's going through some developmental changes so can't blame her. She's clapping constantly now - at the farm on the weekend she stays in our room in the portacot and at 6.30 am in the pitch black all we heard was the sound of her clapping her hands, was so funny. Just the three of us and the 2 doggies went down and I could've stayed for days, it was so lovely to have some "us" time without others. I love going down with family and friends but I have to admit I super enjoyed it being just us. We didn't have to worry about waking others up or vice versa, no people with "morningitis" to deal with etc lol. I think we must do that more often, go by ourselves. Amelia's also found her thumbs and is using them to push levers and things on her toys and she's pretty much sitting up on her own now - no rush there lol. I don't think she's anywhere near crawling but I'm not fussed, it saves me from having to chase her around the house!
How is everyone else? Everyone is obviously in the same boat and finding it harder to get on. I have to stop spending so much time on BB and FB, I have so many things around the house that need doing, putting away old clothes etc, clearing out the end room that has become a junk room full of baby's things that aren't used anymore. Not to mention I haven't done any of Amelia's baby scrapbooking album in weeks. I'm so far behind I haven't even printed out any pics from 3 months on so best get a move on or it will never happen!
Hope everyone and your bubs are well. Perth girls, we should catch up again soon. xx
Hi girlies....ughhh, my eyeballs are hanging out of my head today. Last night was a bad one...he was waking & crying every 30-40 mins. I've hardly had any sleep and I feel like crap.
I haven't ha dmuch time to post either, so busy lately!
Lani - how did little Jett go? Was that just a routine check-up you had with the paed? I hope its nothing serious, I"m sure he will be fine. He just has lots of brains! Would you mind telling me what your care-plan for his eczema is? Michael has eczema too, just went to the nurse about it who told me to use QV bath oil and QV skin lotion...and the medicated cream I got from the docs when it flares up bad.
Alison - glad you had a nice time down south. Must have been great to get away from it all for a while
Suz - Good luck for your check-up, we have our 8month check up at the end of the month...how time has flown!
Big hello to all my other lovelies! Hope you are all going well.
AFM - Michael had been doing relatively well with his night sleeps the past 2 weeks...waking maybe only 2-3 times. But last night it was every 30-40 mins, and night before every hour. I'm hoping its just his teeth, but when I go in he's not chewing on his hands or anything, so I'm not sure. I just hope its not another 2 weeks of this like last time. I have to go see the IL"s today too, soooo can't be bothered. Ughhhh.
Oh, nearly forgot to say I signed Michael up for Playgroup at our local church...worked out fantastically well, they're starting up a new group on a Monday so its not like I have to try and fit in with an existing group. Starts 19th July, rather looking forward to it! Also, signed him up for Gymbaroo starting 20th July. We're going to be very busy!
Yes, Alison & Rose I think we're due another catch up! I'm free any day except Tues afternoons as I visit the IL's.
Hi Beany - we've had the same, I think it's teeth and wonder week! Grrrrr Just when everything goes back to normal huh. Yay for the playgroup, my mums group keep putting it off and it's annoying me as every week we have to go to someone's house and it's such a hassle as it involves providing food for everyone, trying to squeeze everyone in etc - sounds horrible but it's just getting too hard to host! I just want to turn up somewhere and leave when I've had enough.
As for Perth catchup, I'm free any day other than Thursdays, which is mums group day at the mo. Swimming has finished so Wednesdays are free for me again.
Alison your weekend away sounds lovely. Bummer about the teething/wonder week approaching.
Beany You poor thing I hope you get a good nights sleep tonight. Michael please be a good boy for mummy tonight.
Suz Good luck for the check up tomorrow.
BS hope you are having a great time away.
Hope everyone else is doing well.
Well Jett's scans went ok. There is no fluid on the brain or any bleeds thank godness. However they has diagnosed Benign Macrocrania. Which is empty pockets in the brain that are normally 3mm and Jetts are 6mm. I have called the Pead's office and they said the imaging place will only forward them resuts if it is anything serious so I have to wait until my appt at the end of July. it is all ok.
However, we have had a bad weekend Jett became very constipated and we had him in hospital on Saturday night as it became impacted. Has anyone else had any dramas since starting solids? Jett has had bowel movement problems since birth but since the intro of solids things have became worse
The Dr at the hospital has advised to increase his fluid intake, that is a little hard when jett wont take a bottle. We are struggling to get him to take some from a cup. I have also added extra water to all his meals so they are super runny.
I have had very little sleep the last few nights so hopefully I can catch up tonight.
Well I am off to watch Packed to the Rafters, my favourite show.
Hi Lani - I'm so glad Jett has no fluid on the brain or anything, what a relief for you. So these pockets, are they just empty pockets of air as such? I guess you'll find out more at your appointment, definitely keep us posted, it's interesting to know these things. Must be a relief to know it's neither of those. Poor bubba for being badly constipated, what did they do, give him an enema? I've been lucky with Amelia, she's only ever gone a couple of days without a poo once, we have the opposite, since introducing solids she's been going 2 sometimes 3 times a day! Stinky bum lol. Pity he won't take a bottle, I've been trying Amelia on a sippy cup but she's not really sure how to work it yet so we stick with the bottle. Good idea for putting it into his food though. Have you tried putting a little prune juice in with his food? One of my mum's group friend's little boy has the same problem and she was told by the GP to do that and she said it works a treat. Give it a go, can't do any harm. xx
I'm waiting for Rafters to come on too, half an hour to wait here, I love it too, it's also my fave - last week was de ja vu wasn't it hee hee.
Hope everyone is having a great week so far. xx
