Hi girls,
Ear is feeling much better but still putting in the drops.
We had the best time at the party today! It was a fantastic day. I think everything worked out perfectly. Pics are on FB. Ash had a wonderful time. She slept 2.5hrs before the party and thenstraight after the party and was a perfect party host for her friends.
I am so physically exhausted now. My body is actually hurting as I was on my feet all day running around but loved every moment of it.
Be back during the week to catch up. I ahve work for the next 3 days! Wish I could have a sick day tomorrow but I have to take the chairs I borrowed from my classroom back to school or the kids wont have anything to sit on! :)
-
Ali - the party looked great. Loved the cake.
Olive- hope bubs is settled. I bet it shook DP up to have an unsettled bubs.
Nai - well done with the triathalon - Your my hero!!
AFU - Alex had his first haircut today, also picked his first cherry tomato off Gran's plant and it went straight into his mouth - I was cheering! Have finished editing my book on paper, just need to type it up. Also have come out of the closet to DH's family about my writing, which was a major step for me. MIL said "Ah that explains all the blank stares and the tiredness"

Hi ladies,
Ali - sounds like the party was great! Had a quick look at photos on FB, looks like it was a fantastic day. Well done Miss A, the perfect host :D
Malyna - wow a haircut already?? They are growing so fast! Well done on "coming out" :D Can't wait to hear more about your book!
Kaz - yay on Mr J doing some good solid blocks of sleep!! About time! You must be feeling better about that! Sensational. Hope it continues.
Nai - also yay on Miss J settling with a bottle of milk - that's great! Sometimes I think I'd like it if she went down without BB, but then I think that she won't want it for much longer (possibly) so I'll just keep going til she says "no more thanks!"
On Sat night I had to leave a hen's party dinner to go feed DD before she went to bed because I am too lazy to express any more :D Luckily we were at a restaurant that is a minute from where DD was (with my DH) so it was ok. Got the wedding on in two weeks though - dunno what we'll do - try a bottle then I guess!
Olive - sounds like my DH on Sat night while I was at the hen's! He had DD at his parents' house, she sleeps there often (they look after her while I'm at work) and I have told them a few times that their cot needs to be moved - it is currently out in the open, upstairs. Fine during the day when it is just his parents there and they can be quiet. But on Sat night, they had people for dinner and DH was losing the plot because DD refused to go to sleep.
Tell me, if you could hear laughter and music and voices and general merriment, would you go to sleep? Don't think so. He was so furious that he didn't get to "chat to anyone" because he spent the whole time he was there trying to get her to sleep. Sigh! Might suggest we move the cot. Again. See if anyone listens this time!
Shell - we're getting tanties too! Arched back, red face, its great. We ignore her when she does that ;) The best one I got was the other morning when I wasn't quick enough to get the BB out - she was lying across my lap, arched her back and started screaming, so intent on tanty throwing that she didn't want a bar of the BB in front of her! In the end I stood her up between my legs and shoved it in her face - she then attached quite happily and fed standing up. Unbelievable. And kind of funny
Ellie - hi! Good to hear from you! Sorry about the nausea and tiredness - not long to go for you now
AFU: had the jabs on Friday. She screamed blue murder - one of my friends from MG was in the waiting room with her new bub (who has jaundice) and apparently everyone heard her. Sigh! Anyway... since then she has been really unsettled at bedtime - happy as larry until we try and put her down, at which time she screams and screams and screams. The last three nights have been very trying from 7pm onwards... Fri it was 8.30pm, Sat was like 10.30pm and last night 8pm.
No good. Don't know if its the vax, or something else. See how we go tonight...
-
OP - I'm sorry to hear that I is screaming at bedtime! That sounds like very hard work. We had trouble getting DS down the other night - took nearly 2 hours - so exhausting. Esp cause mentally that's when you get ready to have a couple of hours to yourself but then the bub has other ideas. Hope DD settles down soon for you. And yes, I'd be moving that cot into a room!!
Malyna - Whoot! on the haircut! DS still hasn't grown much hair since birth hahaha!! Did you keep some? And yay on your book being edited. Can't wait to see it out in bookstores!
Ali - Glad you had a great time at the party. Pics look great!
Nai - Whoot! on DD sleeping through! Great stuff! DS doesn't like milk much yet but it's only been a couple of days.
AFU - Well he hasn't put on "enough" weight again this month (only 200g or something) but I am so over even thinking about it let alone worrying. I reckon it's because he started crawling about a month ago but the CFHN reckons it wouldn't make that much difference  I am a little bummed that he didn't put on slightly less actually  cause now he's just over 9kg and I have to turn his car seat to forwards facing :(
He had his shots this morning. He's back in daycare this afternoon - seemed fine after shots and a 2 hour sleep :o I think there will always be a reason to keep him home from care while I'm still not back at work but I want it to be a familiar place by the time I am at work all day so I sucked it up and took him in there this afternoon. I went to the shops after but don't really need anything so came home again. Feeling a bit lost actually. Hope he's having fun at least!
ETA - The night weaning seems to be having mixed results - some really good long stretches (5-6 hours is long for us) but other nights he's awake 1-2 hours with frequent cuddles and resettling in that time. BUT the CFHN found another tooth that had cut through so that could explain the wakefulness the past night or two cause it's only just cut recently. That'll make DP feel better cause we didn't realise he was teething so he cut that one without any panadol at all :o
-
Kaz - Miss J gained 400g total in 3 months and in that time she started crawling so I think it does make a BIG difference. Also with the teething they often go off food a bit so they do trim down. FWIW she weighed 9.2kg at her 12m check. Meanwhile DD1 weighed in at 7.6kg at 12m.
-
kaz i think your MCHN is a ning nong!
FWIW DD put on 1.3kg over 4 months or 300g a month, its not that much more than J! she was 9.3 kg i think shes forgotten that their weight plateaus now!
seriously you have nothing to worry about!
-
Kaz- Emily definately thinned out from crawling, I was looking at pics of her and she was so chubby pre crawling, I reakon ignore that nurse, he is over 9kg so he obviously isn't starving! How about on the percentile chart? Is he dropping down heaps? A mum group frined years ago her son dropped from 50% to like 5-10% they stressed saw paeds and he is fine, happy healthy.
OP- Lol at that story, how cute. Yeah I'd def get your MIL to move the cot, who is gonna sleep when they can hear everything and anything!
Malyna- how cute first haircut, Emily is only just starting to grow hair at the back, Ash's grew the same, starts off looking like a mullet!
Ali- your party pics looked great! Lots of fun it looks like.
Just a food question for you all, how do you go about with giving meat to your bubs? I can't seem to cook meat tender so too hard to chew! She usually has jar food but I've been getting her onto our food just unsure with meat part.
-
OP- MIL's! Sometimes they just dont think! Hope DD is better now after vax
Kaz- Hope J is loving CC. It took Ash about 4 weeks to not cry wen I left her. This morning I left and she didnt cry and was happily playing within about 1 minute (I was spying!) ;) I also think ou shouldnt listen to your MCHN. DD is 10.5kg but she has only gained 1kg over the last 3.5mths! Massively slowed down from about Christmas. You are doing really well with your weight loss too
Nai- How about you doing a half marathon!!! So proud of you! You have come such a long way and acheived so much!
Holly- how are you love? Hope everything went okay
Shell- DD has quite alot of mince meat like spagheti, lasagne and then I cut strips of meat against the grain when I hand her a piece as then it breaks up with more ease in her mouth
Malyna- how cute A having his first haircut!
-
hey girls- still here! LOL
all going good- boof is running everywhere- he just goes and goes!
Sleeps during the day are 1 a day and that is usually for an hour and that is it ALL DAY!!!
still not sleeping through but waking about 3 times a nite still- but it is getting better- none of my kids were good sleepers and either am I so i dont expect much more lol
Shell - as for meat- Boof just eats what we have- tonight he ate 3 crumbed lamb cutlets. The crumbed cutlets tend to be more tender. If you are worried about getting the meat tender enough- either ask your butcher to tenderise it for you, or offer things like fish, mince etc. Boof loves sea pearch lol and mince meat balls are a hit as well, also get chicken minced as well and serve it however you want as well. Silverside seems to be an easy meat to chew as well!!!
kaz! Throw those charts out!!! THey do your head in!! If he is happy, healthy and thriving then weight gains are irrelevant- as adults we are not all the same size, so why would babies!!
malyna - good luck with the book being published- how exciting!!
ali- OMG that sounds soo scary with the ear!! Glad it is feeling better!
hi to heaven, olive, lilima, ellie, OP, pinny mum and Nai!!!!
Hope i didnt forget anyone- if i did - sorry lol
stay sane girls
-
:grouphug: Thanks girls!! I knew I could count on your sanity!!
Det I didn't even check the charts!! - She told me he had stuck to the 50th% for height. I just checked then and at 9.06kg he is still between the 10th and 25th%. (closer to the 10th). He was born around the 75th% and has had a couple of dips which worried them but for the last 6 months he has been following his own curve. He hasn't thinned down cause he was always pretty skinny I guess but he's not getting skinnier ITMS? I'm not worried at all about him cause he is happy and healthy and active etc. DP was a really skinny kid. I'm just a bit frustrated that this bloody weight issue won't die!! She wants to see him again in a couple of months "just to check his weight" rather than wait until 15 months. She's good in other respects and didn't harp on about his food or anything. I told her he eats what we do and she was happy with that. Will see how I feel about taking him back when I'm back at work. Might not have time ;)
Shell - Have you tried mince? DS doesn't have trouble with strips of meat (chicken is easier to bite off I reckon) but we also give him mince in spag bol, shepherd's pie, pasta bakes etc. Generally I try and spoon feed that but he will use his fingers too. Casseroles (with slightly higher qual steak than usual) also go down pretty well.
Ali - YAY on DD not crying yestedday. DS has been fine so far but started to whinge when he saw me going this morning :( He's working it out I think. hahaha!! I have to laugh about your comment on my weight loss - it's been the same for the past month  Lost my mojo and struggling to get it back. I think going back to work will be good for me in that respect. There's too much temptation when I'm at home all day.
Busy few days coming up here. My parents are turning up today to stay overnight and then PiL are coming Fri-Sun. I'm out on Fri night then we're having my mum's group b'day party on Sat and we're out on Sun too.
-
Kaz, just don't go! Miss the appointment. DD1 was 3rd percentile at 12m and they did check again at 15m but not in between. There is no reason to if he is happy and healthy and doing what he is meant to. If it stresses you outthen ignore her.
-
I agree with Nai - Just don't go if you don'[t need the stress. Then if oyu do have any quesitons/concerns, ask in here.
Shell - slow cooked casseroles are good, as they are nice and tender. We have at least 1 slow cook a week.
Salmon patties, roast chicken or pasta bakes are good.
Not really too much to report here. E is walking around everywhere and climbing everything. She fell off the couch twice today. I can't keep her off!!
Been working 3 days a week still.
We have booked a holiday to Brisbane for October. We are going to go with my parents. So that will be nice. It is areal budget holiday. Cheap air tickets, and staying in a caravan park. Got away with it for $700 for me, DH, and the 2 kidlets.
Anyone got any good indea if what we can do in Brisbane? We will take J to Movieworld so that he can meet Batman!
-
Hey yummy mummies and bubbies,
Been a bit quiet in here of late! Are we all out having lives or something??! And now I will finish work and when I come back in on Monday I bet there will be like 50 replies... :p
Meg - I love Brisbane, well done on the cheap holiday!! You guys will have a blast. Some things I can think of - go to Southbank, its like fake beach thing in the middle of the city. With sand and everything. The kids will love it! I think there's a market or two as well (might not be as interesting for the kids but you might enjoy it!), you could go to Currumbin Sanctuary - on the Gold Coast, but you mentioned going to Movieworld so Currumbin might be possible! Its an animal park, you can feed rosellas and other birds, they come and land on your arms and head and stuff. You can get some great photos :D
I'll try and think what else...
Kaz - enjoy your busy weekend! Hope it takes your mind off DS's supposed weight issues. You poor thing to be still stressing about it after all this time. Hope you've moved on! And if you don't feel like going back at 15mths, then don't.
If it helps, Isabel's weight dropped from the 90th percentile at 6mths, to the 75th at 8mths, to somewhere around the 50th at 12mths. My MCHN wasn't concerned at all - she said it happens as they get mobile! She's not even 10kg yet...
How are your nights going??
Det - hi, see you Tues :D Please ask Boof not to run Isabel over in the toy car again  Just kidding - I didn't actually see what happened, was it him or Lucy behind the wheel?!?!?! Some SIL he is going to be...
Ali - thanks hun, DD has been much better the last few days but was pretty clingy and miserable til about Tuesday. Poor love. I had a flu shot yesterday and remembered how much immunisations can hurt!
Shell - we try and give DD whatever we eat, but we haven't had a steak in a while. But we have had BBQs, where we'll give her sausage or small pieces of steak actually now that I think about it. She just seems to mash it up in her mouth and (sometimes) eat it. But most of the time it is mince in some form or another, or chicken breasts that are cut up small for her. I'm trying really hard to ensure her protein intake is high as I've heard it can help if they wake in the wee small hours of the morning, which Isabel was doing for a while.
Hi to olive, Nai, Malyna, Holly... and everyone else!
AFU: DD seems to have settled down after her shots, thank goodness. Last night we put her down a bit earlier than usual and she went off to sleep after goo-ing and gaa-ing in her cot for about 5mins. Maybe we have been pushing it too far past when she really needs to go to sleep? Who knows, it seems to change so often with these bubs.
Not a lot planned for the weekend except we are going to see Cats!!!! So excited. Saw it three times when I was a kidlet, hanging to see it again.
Hope it lives up to my expectations...!
Have a great one girls!
-
OP- you will love Cats- took the kids including Boof last week- a good cast!!!!
LOL at the driving lessons- your niece was teaching boof to drive !! Typical woman driver lol!
had to share- tonight boof ate a whole apple by himself skin and all- too funny- stripped it clean and threw the core on the ground- he had eaten it all!! My older two were worried that he had eaten the seeds as well and he was going to grow an apple tree in his tummy!
Just call him Mr Machine! LOL
-
Det - LOL at the apple! I had to convince Miss J to eat her dinner last night by letting her feed me a mouthful and then i could feed her a mouthful - it was a loooong process.
Meg - Yay on the holiday! We are planning a week at the snow later this year - I can't wait.
AFU - I think I will be weaning Miss J on to milk for her final feed before bed. I have found that if I BF her she wakes during the night but sleeps much better with a bottle of milk :dunno: I will still give her a morning BF so we will be down to 1 a day. Funnily enough this is exactly what DD1 did at the same age. At 13 months she cut down to 1 morning feed a day and at 14 months weaned completely.
-
-
-
OP- hope you liked Cats. I have been putting off the shots each day this week! LOL! I kep finding an excuse. Maybe next week!
Kaz- Sometimes my weight stays the same for a while but the most important thing is for it not to be going up. Hope the mums group bday party went well and all the parents and in lawas over. Sounds like a very busy weekend.
Nai- That sounds exactly how DD weaned. Cut down from 2 bf a day to just the morning until about a month after that she was done. Kind of sick of washing all the bottles though! LOL!
Det-Funny about the apple. I dont hink DD has enough teeth for that yet. Your kids sound like they really love little Boof. How is DD's arm now?
Lilima- Not sure about Brisbane but have a great time. Sounds like a much needed holiday.
Olive- How is the night weaning going? It took us a while and I think I said months ago that I had a a mattress on DD's floor for a good few weeks but we got there in the end and so will Miss M.
Shell- How you going with the meat? I thought of another meat idea for you (and me and everyone else). Meatballs! LOL! Easy to make and you could grate other veges up into them.
:hello: to everyone else.
AFM- 2 weeks until holidays! Thank goodness. We have been so flat out busy the last 2 months. DD is getting her top two teeth. One gum is cut and the othe is bulging and white. She is coping quite well. She had a shower by herself last night. I just sat her in the bottom of the shower with some toys and she loved it! I sat just outside the shower. Even with the water coming down on her head and she would stand up sometimes then plonk down and splash. Very cute!
Also Thank you to the lovely person that gave me platinum membership. I think its someone in here ;) It really touched my heart and cant wait for a new avvy!
