Babies born~January 1st-15th 2010 #1

Hi Ladies - it has been ages since my original post announcing Caroline's arrival on the 8th January however I didn't get any reply email from belly belly when new messages came through so have missed out til now and have gone through all the new messages now and so relieved that there are some other mum's out there also!!

Caroline has been doing good, she put on 350grams the week after hospital (8 days) but this week has lost so we're going back tomorrow to double check but MHCN thinks it's numbers balancing out so we'll see.

I had mastitis which was painful and the fever knocked me around - was hard work with the little one feeding like a mad child and just wanted to shower to get the temp down which when i finally got to do i ended up barfing. all after hours on a saturday so had to go to emergency to get the antibiotics to get things moving to work on the infection. as a result Caroline got super fussy and couldn't be put down, was cluster feeding again (2 hours has been my limit on two occassions - one not so good as was tired and desperately wanted to go to bed but the other time okay as we put a movie on to watch!). the ER dr said that the antibiotics doesn't affect them but when i told this to the MHCN on the Wednesday she immediately disagreed and said that it was their experience that they were definitely affected by them. I also think that Caroline has a little bit of thrush in her mouth because of it so have some stuff for that for her. I use nipple shields (have flat nipples so she hasn't been able to attach without them) so haven't had to worry about getting that from her and am finally feeling recovered from the mastitis and have had a great night last night with sleep and a day out today which is a great cure also after so long on the couch feeling like all i ever do is breastfeed!! let's see what tomorrow brings coz it seems to be so changeable!

re; dummies - haven't used one yet for Caroline but i did for my son so know they can be a god send. i also prefer them to thumb sucking because you can cut back a dummy and then wean but not a thumb and i've seen some pretty crooked teeth from long term thumb suckers.

Lucylu - how did you go with DH back at work? i notice Nathan and Lucy have a generous age gap. My son and Caroline also have a big gap of ten years (he's just turned 10 last week~!)

someone mentioned a melbourne meet up - is that in the city? i'd love to go but not sure as we live out in Healesville so would be quite a full day and at this point we're going day to day and venturing in little steps!! lol would love the details though!

Illeyena - i am glad to hear the mastitis is gone, you poor thing it must have been hell.
Caroline did very well with the weight that first week, i don't think it could hurt to have lost a little... Z only put on 300g in 2wks and they said that was really good... she probably is just balancing out.

Hows everyone going?
Zara and Ava tag teamed me last night, i felt like i was constantly feeding Z for about 3hrs (snack feeding and unsettled) and then Ava was being a pain and i had to get tea ready etc as DP was out getting his motorbike licence renewed :wall:
In the end i put a cloth nappy that i had hidden in my pillow under Z in her basinette and she slept ok... i think she just wanted mummy snuggles, it worked a treat!

Today i am waiting for Z to wake, will give her a feed, change the girls and then they can hide in the lounge with the wiggles while i mop the house then we are going to the shops to cash a cheque, find me a pair of pants or something and then come home... a nice day out i hope.

ILLEYENA I hope you're feeling better now the mastitis is clearing up...it really does suck!!

ZF I hope you have a nice day out. Was the cloth nappy something that just smelt of you?? I haven't heard that before!

KALEE I guess having such a cutie makes the 24-7 carrying around bearable!! :)

Everything is starting to settle down for me, which is nice, the mastitis seems to have gone, not yet finished the antibiotics but the lumps have dissapeared.

I am now looking forward to being able to drive (which I will probably start next week) and getting out of the house! Will also be nice once I can walk a bit of a distance and take DS and the dog out walking...start to lose some of the weight! Though I am pleased to say most of it has gone already...just need to tone up ;)

Just wondering, how long does everyone feed for each feed? I have a massive milk supply, far too much for my little man!! The clinic nurse said it's like 'Niagra Falls' and when I feed DS it gushes down his throat that he gets out of breath and gets a fair bit of wind. I seem to spend 5 minutes feeding and then 10 minutes burping and repeating for quite a while each feed, all while I am leaking all over the place. So just wondering what's normal and what I can look forward to once my supply settles down a bit?

Due to the wind and that I caught his thumb in his mouth a couple of times, we have tried a dummy as the clinic nurse said that it would help with the wind as sucking pushes everything through...he didn't mind it but spat it out a little while later (I am secretly pleased!) but we'll keep it up our sleeves for emergencies I think!

Well I should be off....got to email some pics to the MIL.

:redface: the other nite i did the dumbest thing...i didnt wait for the steam steriliser to cool down and when i opened it it burnt my finger and the first thing i grabbed was the tea towel so i wiped all the skin off :shakehead: its been interesting changing bums with one bandaged finger its my pointer on my left and im left handed! lucky mum is close by because she has had to come bath lucy and milly for me.

Hummingbird+glad to hear the mastistis has started to clear up.

Leah+ i just got Milly settled last nite and Lucy woke up :doh: I think she is getting more teeth. Congrats on the house how exciting it must be when are youz moving?

illeyena+ Nathan is ten too! he has been a great help but isnt too impressed with all the dirty nappies he is the first to allert me if one of the girls has pooed lol I survived DH going back to work it was accualy easier than i thought :dance:

feeb+ think i will try the brauers...i got infacol but that seems to make the pain worse we had 3 hours of screaming last night i felt so bad cause i could tell she was in pain but nothing helped besides walking around the house with her!

lucylu - ouch re the burn!! Caroline has a radar for the kettle. as soon as i make a cuppa she wakes up wanting a feed!!

Caroline slept from 11pm til 4am after her 3 hour sleep from 5p also which seems amazing! we were out a lot of the day though so she had only napped here and there so must've been knackered!

Just a quickie while feeding. We got into the breastfeeding clinic on Monday so hopefully they can straighten us out.
Can you use infants friend on bubs under a month?

Illey- thats great sleeping. You feel so much better after a good sleep. When does DH go back to work?

Lucylu- oh your poor finger. hope it heals soon. it is so daunting facing the idea of taking 2 little ones out alone. My DH goes back to work Monday and it will be interesting. Do you have a double stroller?

Hummingbird- our feeds vary. She normally feeds roughly 20 mins each side with a nappy change in the middle but can just feed and want mummy as a dummy. I am going to give driving a go on Monday. Feels like I havn't been in the car for ages.

Leah- we're in Sunbury. Didn't know about the meetup. Will see how we go. You seem to be doing an awesome job with 2 little ones. My dd1 is a terrible sleeper and has given up day sleeps which doesnt help and is a mummies girl... but we will get there.

Kallee- hopefully dd will give you a break really soon and you get some you time.

jenjams - DH goes back to work Monday week on the 8th, hopefully just after her 4 week growth spurt!!

glad you got in to the breastfeeding clinic!! let us know how it goes. you're meant to be there for a few feeds. will your toddler be able to go also? we went back to the MCHN again today to weight Caroline and she put on 40g in two days which is right on whats expected but then she wanted to book me in to the breastfeeding clinic anyways in case Caroline wasn't getting enough milk through the nipple shields. I declined the referral for now because she's putting on the weight again and had that massive gain before the no gain and has started settling again re; feeds and sleeps. even if that changes again as things tend to I figure that she's made an improvement so that's obviously a positive thing (and she has tons of soaking wet nappies so she's also getting the milk in). the regular MCHN is back for our appt next week so that will be interesting to see how that goes. My SIL said that mum's in her mum's group have seen the one that I have been seeing (she just fills in when the regular one is away) and most haven't been happy with her advice so I don't feel so bad politely refusing it!

Hi all just a quick update just home from MCHN DS2 (after being born at 4250 grams going down to 3725 grams then put on 55 grams 1 day and 25 12 hrs later to be dc at 3805 grams on day 5 mchn visit day 7 he was 3820 grams TODAY he is 4185 grams woo hoo so impressed!!!!!!!! He is also 3cm taller and head 1cm since birth.

oh no! So much to catch up on!!

Well... this week we have:

I think we *might* have established a bit of a sleeping pattern (touch wood) Down between 8-9, up again at 12, 3 & 7 for booby ^^; I like it, as aposed to the down at 3am at up at 7 for the day business.

Had a blocked milk duct but thank GOD, managed to get it out... that mastitis bizo doesn't sound to pleasent, and to the ladies that have had it I hope that it goes ASAP and doesn't knock you around to much... and a big :hug:, just cos.

Still having a bit of trouble with sensitive nipples but I think they're starting to come good now. One doesn't hurt at all, the other is a bit meh... i think that has something to do with someone chomping down out it though ><;; Those little gums can still cause a bit of pain! I'm determined not to give up though, although mostly for purely selfish reasons - I'm shedding my pregnancy weight like no bodies business :p

Starting to get into the cloth nappies now too! They're so cute, and surprisingly easy to wash etc...

Oh, Jackson has had a bit of a gunky eye too, I've been squirting BM into it after every feed and it is going away. Although slowly. I think if its not gone completely by monday I might take him to a Dr.

humming, you're like with dummies... whatever works but deep down i despise them!! J likes to have one, is a bit hit and miss though, but once he's asleep he spits it out.. which mummy likes ><;

Well done on the PG weight i too am LOVING the BFing am down to 96.3kg so i THINK i have lost over 10kg in 3wks the 1st & only time they weighed me was about 16wks i think and i was 102kg (i'm a big girl :redface:) so i assume i put on a bit more and can only guess about 10kg+ gone now so i am very pleased :dance: how is everyone else feeling about their post baby bods? I still have A LOT to go but as someone said "it takes 9mths to put it on so expect 9mths for it to come off"

Feeb - :clap: for the weight gain... awesome work

illeyena - sounds like things are sorting themselves out with the weight etc.. go with your gut and it's always good to see the regular MCHN, they tend to get to know YOUR special lil one and the way they grow... DD1 has ALWAYS been the 10th% for weight and everyone comments on her being small, 1 MCHN told me i need to feed her more (WTF, this kid eats like a 4yr old boy) i let it slip and spoke to my normal MCHN and she said no way, A eats HEAPS... lol she's just petite, no stress!

Lucylu - You poor thing, how are Lucy's teeth going, A's molars are on the move i think :doh:
Take your time getting out of the house, if i could hide at home all day i think i would but have had a bit to do for the house etc... lol each to their own.

Jenjams - how old is your DD1? A is 15mths and is down to 1 sleep and she's driving me bonkers, she's the only reason i get out.. it's easier to occupy her out of the house some days... hehe

AFM - took the girls to the park yesterday as A was driving me nuts and it was going to be a HOT day so thought will get it over and done with, Z slept in the baby carrier the whole time (incl climbing stairs and slides etc)... lol i also managed to take them shopping alone this morn, Z in the carrier and A in the trolley.

As i said b4 i have lost a bit of baby weight and am loving it.. god BFing does wonders, after Ava i lost nearly 25kg by about 12wks after her birth so am hoping i can give it another crack.

DP is still working 7 days a week but i think i am doing ok with the housework etc, keeping on top of things.

A has been a PITA and very sooky and Z seems to have atleast 1 patch a day where for about 3hrs she is constantly up and down and sooky and snack feeds so not sure what she's doing there. Luckily today she did it after we went shopping and tonight she settled ok.. but NOW i am waiting for her to wake she prob wont... well best be off and stop rambling.. hope your all well!

jenjams, i think bubs has to be one month before you can use the wind drops (infants friend, infacol, etc). Hope all goes well with the breastfeeding clinic tomorrow.

hummingbird, DD feeds for about 20 minutes each side with a burp and a nappy change in between. Then she often has 5 minute snacks in between feeds. Feels like she's permanently attached to my boob sometimes! I'm starting to consider a dummy just to satisfy her sucking needs and to give me 5 minutes to go to the toilet! I'm holding off though so we'll see what happens.

lucylu - hope the finger is better! :hug:

illeyena - I did the breastfeeding clinic with DS due to low weigh gains. It was good in that it was great support to continue BF'ing but bad in that each week I was so stressed that DS hadn't put on weight. I'm so glad it's working out this time.

feeb - awesome work on the weight gain and growth!

teagz - nice on the sleeping, enjoy it because at some stage it will change again (just a forewarning!) :) I had a blocked duct too last week, managed to clear it with extra feeding and some expressing. Glad you got yours sorted cause they are ouchies!!

Zarava - you are a supermummy!!! I don't know how you do it all. What's your secret?

So jealous of you girls with the weight falling off!! I'm one of the unlucky ones who don't *sigh* I've lost all bar 1kg of my pregnancy weight and I still need to lose 3 more on that to get back to pre-children weight. I just sit on the same weight. I guess I'm not putting it on, so it's a good thing.

Eluned dont stress I also dont loose wg with BF!!!!!! I have been BF for nearly 19 months straight and wg is not something I loose grrrr. you will be fine on your own with 2, I found it scary on first day alone but its not to bad in some ways easier as you know you are alone so just find a way to do everything, housework doesnt matter!!!

I wish it was easier for me to get out but once I have 2 in pram getting up and down steps at front of house is so hard due to wg of pram with kids in it and pram. No driving is driving me nuts but also no off street parking will make it hard to go out anyway on my own.

illeyena glad bubs is putting on more wg, slow wg gain in stressful I had issues with DS1.

jenjams you can use infants friend and brauers before 1 month but not infacol. They can be a god send!!! infants friend helped DS1 and brauers is helping DS2.

as for us DS2 needs to learn to sleep at night without being in bed with me as I get to sore lying in same spot all night.

Zara is cluster feeding at night aswell, about every 45min for 3-4hrs, yesterday she did it in the morning and was ok at night.. whats the go with that... crazy kids.

Oh hun theres no rush, no driving would drive me nuts too.. i find i put A in the car 1st (leaving Z in the house) and then i run back in and get Z... lol

Let me just say though girls i have had LOTS of practice i have 4 brothers under the age of 15 all of which i have helped raise, i used to babysit 4 kids every Friday night for my aunt from the age of 13.
The only reason i get out and about is to keep A occupied, she is a full on never stop kind of girl and sometimes it's easier to strap her in and let her watch the world go by. :p

Hi guys, i thought it was finally time I joined here. I had my DS, Joshua Harrison, on 13 Jan, 2 weeks early. He weighed 7lb 10oz and is just adorable. It was a difficult delivery ending up in theatre with forceps and almost a caesar and I am not supposed to be lifting anything heavier than him for 6 weeks. But there is no way that is happening as I also have a nearly 2 year old wanting to be picked up all the time! So far DD is doing ok but can get a bit too rough with the bub sometimes. I am lucky to have had my sister staying and she has been amazing, but she leaves tomorrow. Then a few days later my parents arrive for 10 days and then I really am on my own! I am a little worried about how I will cope with 2 on my own but hopefully we will get into a routine.

DS feeds like a trooper and put on 340g in 6 days when the MCHN came out. I have heaps of milk and he seems to choke on it and gets a lot of wind so I am heading out soon to get some Brauers colis relief for him, hopefully that will work.

I have read through everyones posts and wanted to respond to so many but now I can't remember who said what! And my little man has just woken up for his next feed so I need to get going. Will BBL to catch up properly!

Bun hi there and congrats!!! Love the name!! Bit biased I am as DS2 is Harrison.

Dont stress too much about the lifting just minimise what you actually do, I am in same boat I had a cs and have a nearly 19 month old at home who doesnt walk yet grrr and a nearly 3 week old and have been home on my own all day since last wed!!! (plus 1 day week before)
I have been changing DS1 on floor where possible and only lifting him in and out of high chair and cot.

Feeb+ DD2 has been good the last few nights cause i was having the same problem with getting sore laying in the same spot and :redface: for about a week DH slept on the lounge so Milly and I would have plenty of room in bed :redface: Ive found that putting her in her bassinette for all her day sleeps has helped( she was just sleeping anywhere before...lounge, bouncy, pram)

Eluned+ hope your first day without DH is ok ive had a week of DH back at work now and its been pretty good

jenjams+ we havent got a double stroller yet but Ive seen the one i want just have to get around to getting it

I have to say Im a bit in love with Brauer colic relif atm :dance: its so nice not to have Milly screaming in pain every afternoon

DS started back at school today so we thought we would walk him so mum came round and off we went :o with out realising it was a 4km round trip :redface: Im a bit unfit so i nearly died...should have eased into it with a few shorter walks first i think lol

Lucylu DS2 sleeps in bassinet in day which is why I get so annoyed that he wont at night!!! soooooo frustrating!! Brauers colic relief is ace I am so glad it helped you also.

leah, yep my boobs are starting to settle down now thank goodness. not a fan of sore nipples ><;; good going with the weight too. i'm finding it's falling off of me too with little to no effort on my part. i'm down to 80kg's now, got up to 94kg's when i was pg... only 5kgs more to go and i'll be back to my pre-preg weight... wouldn't mind a little extra to go though :p i'm quite liking my post baby bod... except for the saggy belly skin but i'm told that will shrink back in time!

eluned, yep i am prepped for it to all go pear shapped dont worry :p def enjoying it while i can though.

BUN Welcome! I have the too much milk problem too...I can’t wait for them to settle down and stop dripping all over me, I want to have a shower after every feed (not just the ones I get vomit on me!)
Hello to everyone else!!

DS seems to have a bit of a routine I think?? He’s pretty good in the morning going about 3 hours between feeds during daytime and then in the later afternoon into the evening he’s a bit unsettled and wants more feeds and then at night will go 5 hours between feeds. I know that we’re probably quite lucky and it might change but it’s nice for the moment!

It’s really great watching the belly get smaller isn’t it! I have been weighing myself weekly and due to again tomorrow, I am excited as I think I’ll be pretty close to my pre-pregnancy weight. Not that I look it cause my legs could do with a good run and I have a big cut across my belly from the CS...but baby steps I guess.

How are the ladies that have had a CS feeling? Underneath my belly button but above my soon to be scar when I brush/rub over it, I can feel like pins & needles. Is this just the nerves re-joining? I have a dressing that I leave on for 6 weeks straight so I am looking forward to going to my OB to get it removed at the 6 week checkup and see how it looks. I also drove on the weekend and wasn’t as scary as I thought! So I think I will be out and about a bit this week....maybe.

Today is the first day that I feel more normal, I think the hormones have settled and I’ve been out and about a bit more. Managed to do a couple of loads of washing, mopped, dusted, went for a walk (only a couple of KM, but was enough for my belly!) and now only starting to think I should have had a nap as DH will be home soon! Anyway hopefully this energy will only get better and I will be able to do alot more.

Hummingbird - i had a c/s also and recovery has been great. I feel fine to drive but haven't as yet only because DH is still home so he has been doing the driving. i don't have a dressing though, that got removed at the hospital. i have had no mobility issues or with lifting etc. am getting frustrated not being able to err do the deed (I must be doing okay!!) - that I will leave until 6 weeks though just in case! I have to make my 6 week appt asap though!! i've not been good at making appointments lately as I also need to see my GP. it seems the MHCN is the only appt that's being made these days!

At the moment whenever i can i feed Z then leave the house, that normally gives me about 2-3hrs without having to worry about her.
If she needs a feed while out i go to the parents room and i tuck a cloth nappy in b/w my bra and my (.)(.) so when i leak i don't get it all over myself.
I do the same if we are in public view but i use a muslin wrap over D and tucked into my straps or the top of my top so no-one can see.

The best part is at the local SC there is 1 parents room that has some little playground equipment, so i go to that one and let A run feral while i feed Z..;)

My cs wound has been infected have just finished antibiotics, and am cleaning with betadine, still smelly but problem is that over hang part that doesnt allow it to get air at it grrr being bigger person grr. Hope it clears up soon.

Even 18 months after having DS1 I still had a patch that was altered sensation on belly its very normal due to nerve endings being severed.

I haven't driven as not ment to drive for 6 weeks so girls check with your car insurance people as if you have an accident you may not be covered. I know that last time they said to me I could drive as long as OB gave me clearance. I took the time to not drive to get routine set up a bit. As also lifting pram in and out boot of car is to heavy.

feeb - my OB said that I could drive an auto from 3 weeks and manual from 6 weeks.

Hi girls! Sounds like everyone is going well. Those who have had the c/s please take it easy with the housework and lifting. Just think that your tummy muscles have been stretched over 9 months and then you've had a nice cut through all the muscle and nerves, so it will be very weak. I had a c/s first time and I'm so glad I didn't lift or drive for 6 weeks. It really does make recovery down the track so much better! Although it must be hard to manage with older kiddies. If your ob has given the ok to drive def let your insurance know. I had to send mine a letter otherwise if I had an accident they wouldn't cover me.

First day on our own has been ok so far. Managed to do some dishes, sweep the floor and put dinner on. Plus got in a nanna nap! Now just sitting and feeding A while J plays.

Sounds like we are getting back into the swing of things. I went out today and managed to get in and out of the car etc much quicker than last time, but from tomorrow I won't have my amazing sis to help!! I am still feeling very sore from the birth and am not supposed to be walking too much or anything, plus I am supposed to lie down frequently but am not! By the end of the day I am pretty sore though. Sometimes I think maybe a caesar would have been better reading some of your posts! I hope everything recovers ok, I get a little worried about 'down there' ever being back to normal, the way the birth went. I recovered much much better last time.

I am back down to my pre-preg weight thanks to BFing, but I never lost all the weight after DD so would like to lose another three kgs when I am able to exercise again. My tummy is pretty weak and squishy though!

feeb - I hope the infection clears up soon, it sounds awful. Thanks for the advice re lifting and having a toddler. I think I will start changing DD on the floor too - I hadn't thought of that! Then I will just have to lift her in and out of the car, high chair and cot.

eluned - good choice of name for your DS!

hummingbird - I hope the boobs settle down soon! Mine aren't as bad as they were, but I don't know what I would do without nursing pads!

lucylu - what a walk! We used to go for long walks all the time, but there is no way I would be able to do that now. Hopefully it won't take too long for us to get back in shape again.

I went and bought some Brauers colic relief today so here's hoping it works. Last night was terrible because DS had so much gas, I got hardly any sleep at all. Fingers crossed for tonight!

Bun - hope your feeling a little less sore soon.. rest up when you can, although i know it's hard, i don't rest much either :doh:

How is everyone else feeling,. how are all the bubs doing?

AFM - i am so excited as Zara is 4wks old today and we had a MCHN appt, she is growing so much better than A ever did and i am so excited, she's not on the 10th% for everything like her sister was.

Weight: 3800g (25th%) - 540g gain in 2wks
Height: 53.5cm (50th% :dance: ) - 2.5cm growth
Head: 36cm (25th%) - .5cm growth

Ava @ 5.5wks was 3700g, 50.5cm & 37cm
So even at a week and a half older Ava was 100g less than Z even though there was only 10g difference in birth weight, there is 3cm difference in length (2cm @ birth) and well Ava has always had a big head... :rofl:

To anyone else who has little ones do you compare them, i'm finding it hard not too, i was so over people telling me how small Ava was even though she continually gained and eats more now than a 4yr old boy that i always worry about Z's gains?

I am waiting to get batteries for the scales so i can keep an eye on my post baby weight loss on the same scales all the time BUT am going for a walk with 2 girls from MG tomorrow and to let the kids play @ the park, have had salad the last couple of nights due to the heat.
Am going to be naughty today though and have ****tail spring rolls, have a hankering for them... ;)

Oh yeah did any one else have a Vitamin D deficiency when they were PG, Zara has to have pentevite every day until she is 1 due to me having a deficiency.. wondering if any other bubs are having to take this?

Leah - awesome on Z's gains! I know exactly what you mean about comparing. J was 3.5kg at 12 weeks! A was 3.49kg at 2 weeks!! J has a big head too and A has a little one.

Yesterday was a bit more difficult than the previous day. I'm finding the hardest part is getting DS down for his arvo nap. A cries and I have to juggle them both, takes awhile but we get there.

Went for a big walk yesterday so today am recovering lol. Woke up from arvo nap with a sore throat and boobs so hoping it's not mastitis.

Man, I'm going to blame the hormone ****tail...but I've only JUST found this thread within Belly Belly! I've been looking, but obviously not very well. I posted in the 'expecting area', but I think my brain is seriously sleep deprived. I'm here now.

We had our beautiful little girl, Darcey Catherine on Jan 12, she weighed 6lb, 10oz (3.01kg), and she was four days late. Went for the normal OB appointment on the Tuesday, at 10.40am, the OB told me he would prefer her out than in, as my lower pelvis was a little sore to touch, and arranged for blood tests (normal procedure) and a c/s immediately. Darcey was born 17:24 that day. OB put me on antibiotics immediately after birth, which was really lucky, as it turned out I had somehow contracted some bizarre infection, (which the OB only let us know when we were being discharged 5 days later), that could have made her incredibly sick while in utero, with a 5% chance of "fever so intense, it would boil her brain" :o Hmm, was a little freaked by that. But so glad that he didn't let me know at the time, or else I think I really would have panicked. She was fine, and I was fine.

Darcey is just beautiful (whose baby isn't??) And yes, just like everyone else, I'm also experiencing the not so pleasant aspects of early mothering: recovery from c/s; swelling of feet, fingers etc; cracked and bleeding nipples; sleep deprivation; very strange patterns of blood loss; constipation (from the codeine for the c/s) and today, I've just twinged my back! Feeling very sore and sorry for myself.

I am loving Lansinoh though for the nipples, plus of course the avent nipple shields.

We were told by our (very anti-dummy) lactation consultant, that it would OK to use a dummy for Darcey, as she is a real sucker. I only use it for 10 minutes at a go, and it's normally when I know she's not hungry, doesn't have any wind, it's more like she's looking for something to do (??!!??) It really calms her down, to a point where I can remove it, and then gently rock her off to sleep. I don't let her fall asleep with it, and find that the time(s) that I do use it are normally once every 24 hours - the 4amish feed session. We had real problems with the 1am feed session merging into the 4am feed session, which then merged into the 7am feed session....with NO SLEEP in between for Darcey or Mummy. Aah, what a nightmare that was. Using the dummy after the 4am feed though has been fantastic.

My DH has been at home, goes back on11 Feb, so he has been terrific. My Mum has also been dropping in every other day for a few hours, which is nice to just sit and chat to her about nothing, or whatever Darcey has been up to (or whatever time Darcey has been up to the previous night).

Now that I've finally found this thread (can't believe how thick I am), I'll check back, and post more personals in the next day or so.

Wondering if I can join in a little late? my BB time's been seriously cut since the little one arrived and I haven't been able to be very active on here.

My names Lindsay and my little man Austin made his arrival into this world on the 6th Jan (4 weeks today!) I've been reading all the posts in this threads and it's so great to see everyone going through the exact same things we are.

The last four weeks have been the most amazing and the most testing, I'm still struggling to believe that this amazing little creature is mine. I swear I could stare at him for hours. However I could also do with a new set of nipples and a comatose sleep.

We've managed to FINALLY get breastfeeding down pat *does happy dance* and we're now tackling settling. What works one day seems to be the exact opposite the next!!

Does anyone have any funny stories from the first few weeks with bubs?? I had my first "poo" experience this week. DP went back to work for the first time on Monday, while feeding Austin he let go a series of crazy loud farts so I got up to change him. Nappy was choc-a-block full so I got rid of the and was half way through the change, pick Austin up to set his new "white" outfit on the change table, and I hear the start of a fart, "uh-oh" I look down into my little mans big eyes and say "ooohhh no don't you dare", well he did...one big sloppy mustard poo explosion all down mummy's front, all over the cream carpet, change table and aaalllll over his beautiful outfit. Cleaning the mess up one handed and trying not to spread it even more was certainly an adventure!!

Petal - was it the strep bacteria that you had? I had that too with DD1 and freaked cos i ended up having her at home alone breach and it was longer for her head to stay in, they had to monitor both her and DD2 for the full 48hrs in hosp to make sure their temps didn't rise. It's scary isn't it.
Hope your recovery from the c/s is as quick and painless as possible, sounds like it's been a bit of a journey.. hope your backs ok.

Lindsaymaree - hehe funny stories.. DP had a bath with DD1 the other night and i suggested we pop DD2 in with them while i ran her bath... well she proceeded to poo in the bath on DP... haha DD1 has NEVER until yesterday poo'ed in the bath :rofl:

I'm finding when i'm home alone at night Z tends to wake right as i'm cooking tea or putting A to bed... i mean seriously, does she have a sensor or what and then i have the same issue trying to get A to sleep when she can hear Z.
I have found as horrible as it sounds if i shut the sliding door and then A's door she can't hear her and i have about 5min b4 Z goes nuts... lol OR i put Z in the swing and quickly quickly get A to sleep...

Must be a day for poo...this afternoon I was sitting on the couch feeding DD and she started farting and grunting which usually means she's pooping. Then my lap felt quite warm and I looked down and there was poo running out both sides of her nappy and all over my leg (was wearing jeans). I had to squeeze my legs together so it wouldn't run down between them and onto the couch! DS was watching the wiggles and the closest thing nearby was her wrap, so I had to use that to put under her and make a dash for the change table. She was still pooping as I was taking her nappy off. My goodness, there was enough poo there to sink a battleship! Ahh I can only laugh.

I've tried the dummy a few times this week and she won't take it. Spits the dummy (literally) out and cries worse than she does without it! So I'm not going to bother with it at this stage and just go with giving her booby. Thank goodness DS has been ok. I make sure I read and interact with him heaps while I'm feeding DD. I feel bad that he's not getting as many cuddles from me atm :(

Feeb - i think it was you have an infection in your scar? I found i had an infection on monday as well but it doesnt seem to be in the scar its internally near the scar above and below it....very red and swollen, meds seem to be working at the moment which is good otherwise i would need surgury to help drain it :o Have the antibotics that they have you on effect feeding?

Minny oh sorry to hear you have an infection, hope it clears soon. I was on Flucloxicillan for 1 week which had no effect on feeding its safe in BF. At most some babies get the runs or thrush but we had no issues.

Ah cool, what did they put you on instead? It cleared it all up? Im on staphalex and its safe while breastfeeding but i have noticed he is getting a bit chucky since i have been on it, hopefully he will go back to normal once i have finished it.

Tantum feeding...you have me interested :) how old is the eldest you are feeding with bubs?

Daytona Ariel was born via cs at 3:36 on 12/01/10 and only weighed 6lb15oz, (not the 8.5lb the doc thought) Everything went very well, my 1st cs, and her scores were 9,9 &9. We were doing really well with BF and we both seemed experts (just like it went with DS) Unfortunately, by the 2nd week, she couldn't hold it down for some reason and projectiled after EVERY feed. Changed to formula and she once again boomed! I tried again yesterday just to make sure but nope, projectiled again and seemed really unwell afterwards! I guess it's just not ment to be :( . She was back over her birth weight at 1 week and on Wednesday (3w+1d) She's now upto 8.03lb
Has anyone experienced baby blues? I think I might be?? Since Monday, I've been feeling pretty crappy and teary. Feeling guilty about opting for the cs since I've seen how small she is, I think I could have done it even though she was frank breech... I should have tried! Even though I keep telling myself It would have been too much of a risk on my heart and atleast I'm here and healthy to look after her, and there were just too many things going against me to go down the natral path, it just doesn't seam to help. Now, with the BF thing and I just generally feel down. Like as though, I'm here to cook, clean, change nappies, feed, settle blablabla... DH gets to enjoy her, have a shower with her (which she loves! hates the bath, even when I got in with her... it's shower with dad or nothing!) and she's basically happy when he is home.
Anyway... Enuff of that!

Minny sorry just re read my post and realised it wasnt clear Flucloxicillan cleared up infection without affecting feeding.

My DS1 is nearly 19 months and wants to feed a lot more these days when DS2 is feeding and when DS2 is in bed.

Daytona's mummy+ hello and congratulations, OMG baby blues here big time one of my issues is having DD's so close...i feel guilty because Lucys no longer the baby and im blaming myself for her bad behavour :wall: I consider it a good day if i dont cry lol it helps if i get some sleep but

Were you given a choice with Daytona being breach, the hospital here doesn't give you a choice if bubs is breach your a c/s no matter what (Lucky A didn't wait for me to get to hosp), so please don't feel bad about the decision.. you do what you think is right at the time for both yourself and your gorgeous girl and she's here and healthy so thats what counts right?

How is everyone else?

We are doing well, had planned a walk yesterday but mother nature turned on us so we went to the play centre with one of the girls from MG. Z slept most of the time while A had a good old play, it was nice to be out and about.
She has been a bit unsettled this morning but has FINALLY gone down for a sleep longer than an hour, i think she had wind.. how is everyone finding that colic relief, i might have to give it a go.

So far i am finding i get enough time with A or i include her in playing with Zara, she often sits with us while i feed... still worried she is going to try for a chomp on it :o
They were playing together yesterday and Ava tried to give Z her dummy and wasn't taking NO for an answer... atleast she's sharing with her i guess... lol
