Babies born~January 1st-15th 2010 #2

Hi Ladies!
Hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day, especially those of you who had your first one! I got spoilt. DD was good to me and only woke once at 3am for a feed and then let me sleep in until 7:30 when I woke up to the boys cooking me breakfast :) They also got me a dock for my iPod so I can have music in the kitchen/living area, it's very cool :)

Yesterday, I had to take Amelia back to the CHN for a weight check as at her 3 month check, she had started to slow down a bit. CHN was not worried because Amelia is moving HEAPS and thinks that might be it. Anyway, we were both surprised to see that she had lost 60grams!!! :( The nurse even weighed her again to be sure and then went and got another set of scales in case the first ones weren't working properly. Same result. I am so bummed because our feeding really feels like it's going well. She is happy after feeds, sometimes gets so full that she brings up some milk afterwards. She is soooo alert and is rolling and moving off her playmat. She is still growing as normal for her length and head size too. She doesn't look underweight at all, she has squishy cheeks and thighs. Boohoo, don't know what is wrong with my boobs then. CHN said she is not worried one bit because of all those reasons but as part of protocol has to tell me I need to take DD to see the GP to follow through. So will do that next week or week after. At her 4 month needles 2 weeks ago, GP commented on how she was thriving!?! I have no idea what's going on then.

Teagz, how did you go with leaving Jackson the other night? I'll be doing it this Saturday. I'm going out to dinner with the mums from Playgroup so DH will be at home on his own with the 2 kids for the first time :) I've got a stash of EBM in the freezer just in case, but I'll feed her before I leave and she will be due for another feed when I get back. She has not had a bottle before so I have no idea if she'll take it. I said to DH if it all goes pear shaped to call me and I will just come home early.

:hug: Eluned its so horrible how those numbers on a scale can make you feel...but like you said Amelia is going great from the sounds of it :hug: but its hard not to worry huh? Milly has her checkup next week so im hanging to find out what she weighs. Sounds like you had a lovely mothers day and I hope you enjoy your night out with the girls :)

We've all had colds here so have had a horrible few days :( I hate when my babies get sick

Milly hasnt rolled yet but im in no hurry for her do be doing stuff...as she is my last bub i want her to stay a baby forever :redface:

We had our 4 month check yesterday and DS is now 6.5kg and 63cm so going well. He is about 1kg heavier than at his last check up 2 months ago. He seems a little better now that he has been on the reflux meds for a couple of weeks so I am hoping that it is helping. Having said though, we have had a terrible couple of nights with him waking and not going back to sleep again. I am exhausted!!

Good luck to those of you leaving bubs with expressed milk, I hope it goes well. I did that a lot with DD but haven't really this time around, although I have some milk in the freezer. I may get DH to do a night feed so I can have a bit of a break over the weekend. He has been away this week and that is always when the kids decide to play up so I need a break!!

Josh is also still not rolling but I think he is getting very close. He is soooo chatty and smiley these days and I love it! And although he doesn't roll, he does manage to move himself around the floor an awful lot by digging his feet into the ground and moving himself.

Eluned, I am sure DD is fine, it sounds like she is doing really well. I hate how their weight can make you feel like they aren't doing well enough. We are all different and put weight on in different amounts and I am sure she is doing great.

Eluned, i won't lie.... i bawled my eyes out when we left XD But he was fine. I had left 500mls of EBM with mum and he didn't end up having any of it. He fell asleep within an hour of us leaving him. Mum was disapointed I think because out of the 4 hours we left him she only really "babysat" for one XD
But it made DH realise that he doesn't have to always stay with me now, and the next weekend he wanted to take him "visiting" for a couple of hours without me *sniff* But I said no, one night in a week is enough for now haha, I a meany XD He did end up taking him with him to pick up a trailer tho... for all of half an hour haha

HI all, DS2 was wg yesterday he is now 6880 grams and 64cm long. He is not rolling yet, he is chatting, blowing raspberrys and smiling lots.

Teagz well done on managing time away even if you did cry.

Selfish, very selfish post coming right up, just really quickly, because I am absolutely exhausted. We had to get the locum doctor out tonight, and we had to wait and wait and wait for him to arrive. I'm sick, sick, sick. Had a virus for over two weeks, but b/c of bf'ing, can't have anything to help, apart from panadeine. Now I have a pretty severe case of sinusitis, plus the locum wants me to have a scan on my head (?????!!!!????) Anyway, waiting for him wasn't tooo bad, as DH and I managed to do all of Darcey's invites, planning etc for her baptism coming up. Is 98 people too many for a baptism?>>:rolleyes:

We had our first Mothers Group meeting today. Really great to finally have the group called. I got a little teary though when I saw all the other babies. Darcey is tiny compared to them. Had a good chat to the nurse after the main session, and we weighed her. They don't seem worried, but we're going to do a couple of extra things next week, go over her graphs etc. Today she weighed 5.37kg, and that was with clothes on and a wet nappy (she's still not 100%, so I didn't want her to strip down to nothing b/c it was a little nippy) :o. She really is a dainty little thing...17 weeks and 3 days old, I can't believe the time is flying.

Anyway, my DH is grumbling at me to come to bed. Apparently, sleep helps with getting better:)

Eluned and Petal - Caroline is the same and at last two check ups (2 weeks apart) she was only 5.2kgs and 60cm long. I expressed some milk last night for DH to use today so I could go out and not have to rush back and it wasn't enough for a feed so had to squeeze some extra out this morning after her morning feed and even then only just got barely enough. Last week I expressed once and there was easily a full feed for her so I am panicking that my supply might be dropping?? She SEEMs happy enough, doesn't seem to be upset and crying for more because she's hungry and even usually has some extra puke up afterwards coz her tummy is full (my assumption - I could be wrong). I have mum's group tomorrow so will ask the MHCN to weigh her again and see if she's made any gains. I was feeling okay about it until my reduction in milk last night. Oh and she still takes FOREVER to feed. another MHCN that did her immunisations said that by taking so long she is possibly burning up some of the kj's WHILE she is eating... way to freak me out more.

she started what I call 'rolling with intent' yesterday :clap: she rolled twice Monday last week and once ages before that but they just seemed like little flukes but yesterday and today she rolled easily when i put her on her tummy and she pushed up real high beforehand too (except when DH was watching so he has missed all of them - woops!). anyways I caught one on the camera and was trying not to laugh the whole way through coz she's FARTING the whole time (only twice it is really audible though). anyways if you're bored or want a chuckle here she is:

Thanks for the reassurance girls. I just felt so deflated when the numbers on the scales didn't reflect what I thought. Those of you who are also worried about the weight, petalpetal, illeyena, it sounds like your bubs are doing great. Amelia is only 4.83kg!!! :( Now I know she is not going to be a giant but I was expecting her to be around 5.2ish kg. She is 61.5cm long though so that is fine. I've been trying to squeeze in a few more feeds so hopefully she just maybe was feeling a little off and is going to have a growth spurt soon.

I went out for the first time with some mums from mums group last night. I left a 100ml bottle of EBM for Amelia which DH said she drank 80mls of. That's not too bad and was pretty much spot on for my calculation. He said she woke up just after 10ish and he thought she might've wanted another drink so he got out another 50mls for her and by the time he got it all ready she fell asleep again! LOL but he said she then woke and drank only 20mls before falling asleep. I got home just after 11pm and just as I hopped into bed, she woke up so I brought her in with me and she had a nice big feed and we snuggled in bed :)

So as for her weight, I've got to take her to the GP so will probably do that in the next few days. CHN said there's no hurry so I won't. It will only be 6 more weeks before I plan on starting solids so hopefully if she's still going slowly that will help pick things up too.

Bun, sounds like Josh is a real little mover. Amelia is the same. I had one lady comment the other day about how she did not believe Amelia is 4.5 months old! She thought she was older. "She's so alert!" is the most frequent comment I get about her. Amelia digs her heels into the floor and moves off her playmat now and turns around in circles. She also bats the toys above her like mad. Her chatting is her making these little gurgling sounds from the back of her throat. The extra movement is why the CHN thinks her weight has dropped off - because she is sooo active.

Eluned - bring on solids to fatten em up! my MHCN said that i could try her on solids at 5 months and see how that goes so that's 2 weeks away. has anyone else started solids?

my mother in law said she had DH on cow's milk at 2 weeks old!! and also put rice cereal in his bottles and just made the hole bigger to let it through. i just about fell off my chair! :o i have seen on a forum of mostly US women who started putting rice cereal in with bottles of formula at 8 weeks. seems a biy extreme to me ...:rolleyes:

illeyena, back in the day mum was telling me her mum (so my nana) was told to feed my mum solids at the age of 6 weeks - apparently it was standard practice back then. Lamb brains to be exact! Pretty amazing how things have changed!!
Love the vid too! Don't you just love how they seem completely unfazed by how they can roll? Jackson cracks me up. I stand behind him so He can't see me, so to see me he has to roll... while I'm calling his name you can see his big chubby cheeks in a huge grin - 9 times out of ten he just pivots till he can see me, lazy bubba!. It makes me melt. He does the most revolting farts as well... puts his father to shame!

Teagz - I hear you on the revolting farts - DS has started doing them too, yuck!!

eluned - I reckon the CHN is probably right, they move so much these days that it is no wonder they are burning through their milk and not gaining as much weight. I have found that Josh wants a lot more feeds right now but his weight gain has slowed right down. I am not sure if I mentioned it before, but Amelia was one of the names we were going to use for DD, and of course DS is Josh, so we must have pretty similar taste! The only reason DD became a Catherine is because she is a very strong willed little girl and we could tell that as soon as she was born and we thought she needed a tougher name to suit her personality!

petal - I hope you are feeling better now hun. Sounds like you have had a rough few days :hug:

illey - love the video, that is sooo cute! I had a chuckle at her top too!

We are still getting too little sleep here but things have been a little better the last couple of nights. Josh used to go until 3am before his first feed, but then it was 1am, then midnight, then 11pm and last night 10.30pm. He then wants feeds 2-3 hourly from then, and from 5am I find it very hard to get him back down again so he comes into bed with me where he sleeps pretty well until DD bellows that she is awake. She literally says 'Mummy, I awake, I awake, where are you??' and if I am not quick enough she starts knocking from the inside of her bedroom door!! She has recently figured out how to turn on light switches so I am sure it is only a matter of time before she learns how to turn the door handle... Anyway, I am wishing for more sleep but surviving. How many night feed are the other bubs having now? I am starting to think that my kids are just bad sleepers, even though DS started out ok.

Bun=Milly is waking atleast twice a night for a bottle and countless times to be resettled:wall:

Hey ladies have been reading but end up running off to one of the kids.

P05 - i wasn't sure how A would take the whole needles thing now Z is a bit older and she's more protective but TBO is was great, she patted Z when she cried and tried to distract her with a toy.. not bad for 19mths old.. the lady was very impressed and blew bubbles for the 'best big sister she's ever seen' :clap:

Bun - hope the sleeping settles down again for you... we have the prob when DD1 comes into our bed she talks or giggles and wakes Z.. :wall:

I am starting the packing tomorrow so have offloaded Ava and just have Zara for the day, we MOVE ON SUNDAY... :dance:, have to go see a specialist friday about my knee and get fluid taken out with a needle :sick: soo not looking forward to it.

Girls are well, Z rolls from belly to back and up on her side from back but not quite all the way over, she's very much like A and just wants to be upright, she loves sitting up against a pillow or the couch.
Talking to herself heaps, last night it was for 30min at 4:30 in the morn, though stuff it give her a feed and back to bed.. didn't work another 20min talking to herself b4 she fell asleep... she will be in her own room in the cot as of next week and A will be in a bed :doh: my girls are growing up...

Eluned Thanks for asking its going well! Some days DS1 is more demanding and cracks sads if told to wait but otherwise s going well. DS2 is obvioulsluy getting plenty given his weight gain he is over 1kg more than DS1 at same age!!!

I hope Amelia's weight gain picks up for you, keep up the good work.

Woohoo...Milly had a gain...of nearly a kilo!!! she is just under 6kgs now thats with the doctors accurate measurement...gets me to stand on scales with her and without to work out her weight :wall: hopefully its not me putting on the weight :rofl: she deff feels heavyier

I asked the MHCN to weigh Caroline again on Monday (about 11 days since last check) and she's only put on 200g. she usually works out the daily gain which should be 20 to 30g a day but she didn't say so i asked her if the gain was enough (although sure that it wasn't) and she just got a little uncomfortable and said welllllllllllllll you have to look at the individual baby and she looks great and seems to be doing well. i worked it out later and the daily gain is only 11g. she did suggest my calling the breastfeeding clinic because it's still taking forever and i was panicking about my supply dropping when i could only express 80mls instead of my usually easy 180ml!! they just said to express an extra 5 minutes each side after each feed to build my supply up... I don't now.

Illey- I find it harder to express some times than others. Maybe you were just having one of those moments. Is Caroline happy after a feed? Does she seem hungry much? She could just be a little girl who doesnt need or want as much as others. What pump are you expressing with? We have the Avent electric one but I find I get more with the manual pump than the electric.

Way to go Milly! I am not looking to starting solids until closer to 6 months. Alice just isnt interested enough yet.

YAY Milly, she would be around the same size as Z then... Z is 5.7kg and on the 50th% so she's obviously doing well. :clap:
I think Z could prob handle solids but i think i am going to wait until the 6mths, i started A at 5mths and she took them for a couple of weeks then stopped completely until 8mths :wall:, Z watches me eat, opens her mouth tries to steal my drink but i just don't want to rush her.

Illeyena - as the MCHN said each baby is different and aslong as she is gaining and happy then i wouldn't stress TOO much.. wow woman you could express 180ml...:clap::clap::clap: I get excited when i can get 80ml... lol

Feeb it's amazing the differences isn't it, Z is 9wks ahead weight wise of what Ava ever was and there was only 10g difference in birth weight... how you guys going?

Got SOME packing done yesterday but not as much as i liked, Z decided to feed every 2 hrs and take 15min naps :wall: did some packing while the girls were asleep but piked it at 11:30 which was lucky as A was in my bed by 2am then Z was back in by 5 so had 2 little midgets keeping me warm.

Better get back to it, Z is due for a feed, gotta get dressed pop to the shops then try packing around the girls... Ava is trying to help.. could be interesting.

illey, I find it harder to express at certain times as well, mainly get less out in the evenings, get more in the mornings. I've got an Avent pump (electric and manual) and at most I can only get 40mls out. I'm just not very good at it. I'm considering trying a Medela pump instead as I've heard they are very good.

ZF, how's the packing going? Hope Z is more co-operative for you today!

AFM, well, I went to the clinic and weighed Amelia today and she has not gained anything since last week :( Bearing in mind it was on a different set of scales. On the bright side I'm glad she hasn't lost any more weight. I tried topping her up with 50mls EBM in a bottle the other day and she refused to take it but happily drank from my boobies. Am at a bit of a loss now, my gut feeling says she's doing ok, I just don't want to miss anything. When I had the low supply/weight gain issues with DS I had convinced myself he was fine when in fact he was not getting enough from me at all. I don't want to go through that again.

Eluned - now that you mention it, it was the evenings that I got less when I expressed. I have the medela pump and it seems good. how did you end up finding out you son wasn't getting enough?

Just being quick, having 10min to myself.. Z was a PITA today aswell, feeding every 2hrs and taking 15-30min naps, she didn't even manage a long sleep like normal.. on the up side a friend from MG came today and kept the girls occupied while i attempted some packing.
Her little boy is Avas boyfriend... :rofl: and they had a play together, then A decided NOT to have a day nap at all :wall:.

So am taking some time to myself as DP is out at the house finishing some painting, i ate tea with Z on my lap and i'm buggered.

illey, I found out that my DS wasn't getting enough mainly because he wasn't putting on much weight, average less than 70grams a week. By 12 weeks he was sooo skinny and started losing weight, I knew I had to start topping up with formula. I had the help of an LC and my CHN to eventually diagnose him having a weak suck which of course was a bad thing for my supply. It was a difficult journey but we managed to keep breastfeeding as well and even getting rid of the top ups after a few months and went back to just the breastfeeding until 14.5 months. The lack of weight gain was the biggest sign, everything else seemed to be ok at the time but now I realise it wasn't...eg he should have been having more wet nappies and he was always still screaming after a feed which I thought was wind.

Finally found the "Babies Born" were my bub fits into :) took me ages lol

All is well here. My DD2 is a placid little thing mostly and very smiley. Not very keen on rolling over though. She does however LOVE her exersaucer and jolly jump!

hey ladies! Sorry I haven't been around much! I'm going to do a horrible "me" post, sorry!!
OH, but welcome Jennie! Always nice to have a few others join hehe

I'm having a bit of a moral dilema.... The last few weeks Jackson has become a HORRIBLE sleeper... HORRIBLE. Just waking up randomly for no reason (that I can see) and slowly and slowly it's gotten worse and worse until Monday night O.O; I couldnt and didn't get him to sleep until 3.30am. Everytime he'd drift off and I'd put him down he'd wake up with all his arms and legs flapping around and get upset. I ended up having to call my Mum over because otherwise I was goind to throttle him :redface:
Tuesday night he spent half the night sleeping on me in a reclining chair, until about 1.30am where I put him to sleep in his cot on his belly.... where he slept soundly until 9pm.
So, Wednesday night I put him down at 7pm, on his belly and he slept right thru until 5.30. So, I'm in this horrible situation where I want sleep, and I know he seems comfy on his belly but do I want to risk the SIDS issue :doh:
And then I feel horrible being as that I lost a baby 18 months ago and now I"m intentionally putting jackson at risk just so we can both get some sleep -.-;

Boo.

On a more positive note... Jacksons really starting to move now. He can half flip himself from back to side now hehe. And is completely fascinated with his feet and blowing raspberries... so cute!

Teagz - my son would only sleep on his tummy from only a few weeks old!! i swear that the first few nights I must have slept with one eye open on him. Caroline will sleep during the day on her tummy but for some reason (so far) she will sleep on her back at night. I'm sure this will change anytime now. anyways, it's something to think about - how's his neck strength? when Caroline wakes up from sleeping on her tummy she lifts her head up and calls out to me (as such) so maybe he'll be okay?

He has good neck strength. He can push his whole chest right up off the floor/mattress with his arms too... and I spose he's able to roll to his back if he needs to.
He was the same, took his naps during the day on his belly and slept at night on his back. it didn't bother me so much then because during the day I can keep a close eye on him. These last few nights I've been up every couple of hours checking on him too!
We just get this SIDS Stuffed drummed right in, I hear it echo whenever I put him down for a sleep!

Teagz :hug: my DS who is now 10 was the same he would only settle on his tummy, sounds like you have had some rough nights :hug:

Teagz you poor thing, i had a brother die from SIDS and i have no idea how my mum coped i was a paranoid freak with Ava, especially as she was born the same month as Marty and the month he died i was watching her like a hawk.
I must say that i personally learnt that Ava slept how she was comfortable, once she could roll there was no stopping which way she slept, does he sleep on his side? i know they say not to do that too but i have found sometimes if Z is on her side i can slip something behind her and she sleeps like that all night without a drama.... i'm not in the habit of putting things in her cot and believe me the SIDS msg is well known and received here but sometimes you do need to do what you need to do...

Z is biting down on things, she thinks it's hilarious to bite my nipple or suck JUST the end of it while looking at me smiling. :wall:

Well we have moved, were in the new house and Z seems to be sleeping better in the cot at night, she has slept through from 7 to 6:30 a couple of times, last night was til 5, back down then not up til 9ish.
She is VERY clingy during the day though and every time i eat she is on my knee, sometimes i think she is ready for solids, she watches us eat, tries to get our forks etc, opens her mouth... she was chewing on one of A's plastic spoons yesterday. Am torn though, A started at 5mths then gave up til 8mths, i don't want to rush it but Z is a bigger girl, very hungry feeding every 2-3hrs and growing so much faster.. why can't kids have a damn instruction manual... lol

Oh Teagz yes! DD has been chomping down while feeding more often of late, last time being today. She's got a bottom tooth emerging. Got to get her a teething necklace.

Leah, congrats on the move. I hope you are all settling in well. DD has been super clingy too. She also seems really interested in solids and I'm considering starting solids especially since she has not gained ANY weight for almost 3 weeks now. I'm just taking it week by week at the moment as she seems happy enough and is pooping and weeing aplenty.

Nah he won't sleep on his side... mum tried when she was here because it was the thing with us to sleep bubs on their side - sleeping him on his back freaks mum out so much, kinda like me with the belly sleeping.
We have one of those monitor pad things that sense when they stop breathing, and I make sure his rugs are tucked in super good so they don't go anywhere. and he *is* strong with his arms and able to lift his head right up *sigh*... I think I might try flip him tonight before I go to bed and see what happens..

And yes! Jacksons been doing the sucking on the tip thing too! They must be testing their limits... I'm getting toey with the biting tho, especially with teeth on the way! Glad we're not the only ones :)

Teagz - I can totally understand how you feel, I was exactly the same with my DD. She was also a tummy sleeper and had reflux and we spent the first six months of her life trying to make her sleep on her back and she wasn't comfortable so she practically NEVER SLEPT!! We had two miscarriages before DD so were also terrified about anything happening to DD and we wanted to do the right thing, but she just only slept on her tummy! I ended up taking her to a paed about her reflux and he told us it was fine to put her on her tummy, plus we have the same monitor you have (I refused to let her sleep on her tummy even during the day until I bought one, so we now have two monitors!!), and I told myself that as she could roll over anyway (she learnt to roll very early), then it was fine to let her sleep on her tummy. I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but I know exactly where you are coming from!!

DS is also biting, he does the biting thing right at the top of my nip too and it hurts, the little bugger! He is becoming VERY loud these days and very responsive, I am loving it! He is sleeping much better now too, usually wakes only once or twice for a feed and is much easier to get back down again now.

I bought some baby food the other day but I don't think DS is ready yet. He hasn't started watching us eat or anything and seems quite happy so I will wait a little longer but I am all ready when he wants it!

Im so scared about the SIDS thing :( DD sleeps with me in my bed coz im such a sook!! Poor DP sleeps on the lounge lol or spare bed :( his choice lol he dosent want to roll on her!

I sleep her on her side, she settles well like that, but she ends up on her back

I give DD some solids, I make her Pumkin and Potato mash and today I gave her pureed peach and pear (I put the blender in on an angle and it went EVERYWHERE!!! oops)
Shes a big girl tho, my child health nurse suggest trying her on solids earlier as she is pretty unsettled...I think its helping tho :)

Jennie13 - i love the idea of co-sleeping but DD wakes so much more if she's in with us i just can't do it.
She's been in with me the last 2 nights and although i love the cuddles she's driving me mad.

Teagz - hows Jackson going with the sleeping, still on his tummy?
Is he still biting, any sign of those teeth?

Eluned - thx hun, still slowly unpacking a few things, with Ava trying to help and Z feeding every 2-3hrs it's been FUN :wall:
How are you guys going?

AFM - i gave Z her 1st lot of solids this morning, just some rice cereal and she ate it like a pro, opened her mouth for the spoons and Ava 'helped' by giving her a couple. (pics on FB)
Before anyone says anything about the WHO i am aware of the age suggestions and i wanted to wait until 6mths but i couldn't hold of any longer Z is feeding every 2-3hrs all day every day, she WAS down to 1 feed a night but is now sometimes having 1-3.
During the day at times she is quite grizzly and unsettled and i eat majority of my meals with her on my knee trying to steal my food or my fork.
She is a very happy smiley baby but lately aside from teething she's just not herself, she is awake from 1.5-2hrs then down for a nap the longest i am getting from her atm is about an hr then she's up and feeding again.
She's bigger than Ava ever was and i honestly think she needs the solids, not that i think i have been starving her but i think it's def time.

Gee can you tell i am still trying to convince myself of my reasons :redface:.

We are pretty much settled in and are having MG here on tuesday but am still slowly unpacking the things we don't use every day - has everyone found a mothers group?
DP is away for the long w/end and Z has been feral over night and i am so so tired but have things to do as MIL is possibly coming tomorrow :wall: so today off to buy a gate for our stairs then back home to run around like a freak and clean clean clean.
