Hello all :)
Just wondering who, if anbody, has turned their car seat around yet? Had a friend visit today and was shocked when I was saying goodbye that she had her DD (15wks) turned around! Shes quite a big girl, but I was still shocked! She said it was coz it was a pain, coz the straps sat high up, but I had the same problem in my Jeep. So has anybody else turned around yet?
Also is it normal for DD to be drinking less milk nows shes having solids?

Jennie Nope and I wont be for a long time, its much safer for them to be rear facing, the tether strap does loosen to get baby in and out so you dont need to lift over. DS1 was rear facing till 14 months and I only turned him as I was about to get him a new car seat in preparation for DS2.
It is law to be rear facing till 6 months of age in victoria at least.
Baby's do change there feeds around a bit but remember food is fun until there one, milk is still there main nutrition.
Gah! Toy sales, I'm staying away haha, although I'll probably regret it later on closer to xmas time.
Amelia has taken to solids really well. We're on 3 meals a day which include rafferty's banana porridge for breakfast, leftover-whatever-we-had-for-dinner-the-night-before for lunch (today it was cottage pie) and for dinner she has some mashed up veggies. Dietician has advised us to start on the meats already so she gets the protein to help her growth and also to add margarine/butter/oil to her foods. She put on 50grams in 3 days so everyone was happy with that. I feel more comfortable now and am satisfied that she is going to be a wee little lass. It was the weeks of no gains that worried me but she's back on track now. We have a follow up with the dietician again in about a month.
Jennie, IMO 15weeks is way too early unless the baby well and truly exceeds the weight limit on the car seat for rear facing. My DS was rear facing until about 10 months. DD will be rear facing until she is over 8kg (rear facing limit on our seat). At this rate she will be close to 1 before I turn her around.
Yep it is normal for them to drink less milk when they start having solids. Bear in mind that milk is still the main source of nutrition, so offer the milk feed before solids to begin with then over the next few months you'll find the routine shifts around a bit. As they get older, they will naturally want less. Follow her guidance :) And as long as she is having lots of wet nappies and pooping regularly then she's all good!
Z is still rear facing and will be until atleast 8kg, i am thinking of leaving her facing backwards until 12mths just to save the cash on paying to turn the seat around, then i might just put her in a Maxi Rider.
Does anyone find it strange that the Maxi Rider says from 6mths but when i spoke to the lady at baby bunting she said NO NOT UNTIL 12mths????
Well i am off to see eclipse tonight at the drive in... if all goes to plan, DP isn't happy with me cos i yelled at him last night after a frustrating day with the girls, then when he came to bed and tried to wake me up to DTD and i said NO he got up and went and slept on the couch.. have a feeling he might be late home just to be a PITA so i miss the movie :wall:
How is everyone else, Z is getting weighed at 11:30.. will let you all know how she's going.
Eluned - how have you found her with your left overs - do you use milk etc in mash that you have and is she fine with that?
Z is having three meals a day at the moment aswell, rice cereal, fruit for lunch then veg for tea... i was thinking about doing an avocado and steamed chicken spread but thought it's a bit early... she eats like a pig though... rofl.
Hi everyone, I was wondering about when is best to turn the bubs around as well. Maddie is a big bubba but she still fits in her capsule. I dont know what we will do when she outgrows it which will not be too long, maybe another couple weeks - month max I reckon. Can you buy carseats that are both rear facing and then when they are older turn them to forward facing? I would like to keep her rear facing for awhile longer as I have heard it is much safer.
Maddie is only having 2 meals a day atm but she seems to be enjoying her food and has only cut back on her 10pm feed so thinking about fazing this feed out over the next couple of weeks and introducing breakfast. She has been sleeping through from 10.30pm to 7am for nearly two weeks now so I am just scared if I cut that last feed she might start waking early again but fingers crossed she doesnt.
I was trying to get her to have her daytime naps in her cot but we tried for a couple of weeks and there was more unsuccessful days than successful days so I have put her back in her pusher again. She goes off to sleep in there without any drama and 9 times out of 10 I will have to go and wake her after 2.5hrs. Has anyone else had any experiences like this?
Hey everyone, despite all the food she eats Z is ot as big as i thought she would be.... she is now 6.64kg and 66cm long.
Tracehb - you will find most newborn carseats are convertible to be both forward and rear facing, maybe check at the local baby shop, see what suits your car and go from there?

Wow 15 weeks is very early to turn the seat around IMO. I too will be waiting as long as possible to turn Alice around. Very much safer.
Some excellent eaters in here! We started solids a week and a half ago. We started on the rafferty's cereal for tea and only this week have we added steamed and pureed pumpkin to it. Slow and steady for us :)
Alice had her 6 month needles today. Only cried a little bit but I shut my eyes and couldnt watch the needles!

Nothing else really from here. Alice has started rolling regularly from tummy to back in the last couple of days. She is waking up for a feed once a night still but I am getting enough sleep still.
Freya is 6 months today!!! :0 cannot beleive how fast this has gone! its been the most rewarding time I have ever spent!
She has her 6 month needles yesterday. It was the first time i took her, I made my mum do it last 2 times coz im such a sook :( i think i cried more then she did! she was easily distracted by some rattly thing! :)
My car seat has 3 settings, rear facing, recline upright & upright. I just wanted other peoples views, I do agree it was way to early, her DD is a big girl for 15weeks, about 7.5kg, but still.....
Freya is 8.2kg (quick weigh with clothes on at the clinic while i was waiting for her needles)...everyone elses bub on here seems to be alot smaller :( mabey shes to big? she doesnt seem fat tho, ive seen way fatter babies! I spose she did get a head start at 9 pounds birth weight! I have a health nurse appt on Tues, I guess she will be weighed properly then and measured :)

No needles yet, you have to wait exactly 8wks b/w them all and Z had her 4mth ones late so we will be going to the next local one on the 20th.. i HATE needles... poor Z.

Jen, Im glad you are enjoying the pics.....I took so many....lol. I still have the cutest ones to come, Madison at the pool in her cosie and sun hat.....just gorgeous.
Jennie, I dont think babies can be too big. Maddie is 8.8kgs but like Freya she had a head start coming out at almost 10pounds (9lbs 15oz), sounds like she is just a Big healthy bubba :)

Needles wern't too bad. Same as last couple, the oral and then 2 needles. Alice only cried after the nurse pulled the needles out. She was a little grumpy last night but we gave her some panadol and she has had a decent nights sleep. Lets see how she is for the next couple of days. I remember Amber had a grumpy few days after needles when she got them.
Jennie- I am sure Freya is not 'fat'. Every baby is different. I reckon Alice is going to be around Freya's size when she is weighed. I am sure she is healthy.
ZF - yep Amelia is quite good with the leftovers including milk in the mash. Yesterday, I got DS ready for lunch, sat him at the table with his peanut butter sandwich, then put Amelia in the high chair and went back into the kitchen to heat up her food. As I got back to the high chair I noticed she was chewing on a piece of bread! DS had shared his sandwich with her. First I thought oh how cute then I realised it had peanut butter on it!! So minor freak out for a second but she didn't get a reaction so that's good. She won't be having peanut butter any time soon though.
Our only problem now is her poos have gone firm. They look like little cat poos! I know they are not supposed to be like this at that age. Heck DS is 2 and his are still soft! I'm thinking it could be the Rafferty's Garden baby porridge she has for breakfast because it has extra iron in it. Not sure so I might stop giving it to her for the next few days and see if that makes a difference. If that's not it, then I think it could be the meat she's eating. So far all she's had is spaghetti bolognese (mince) and beef casserole. It doesn't seem to bother her and she doesn't cry or appears to be in pain when she's pooping. :dunno:
Jennie, I am sure Freya is just gorgeous! My friend's baby was born on the 7th and he weighs 8.2kg as well and fully breastfed too. Having the extra padding gives her a buffer. I envy you! I can only dream of having fat, chubby, rolly babies...heehee...they are so cute :)
Z's are hard too and she actually had a little blood today from straining, i am giving her water when i can aswell as the fact she is fully BF but i don't know what to do, am thinking i might get some prunes and process them in with some of her food and try and increase the water.. she is also on raffertys
Jennie, Jackson is 8.02kg's... so, your bubba isn't the only chubba bub! ^^; As my MIL says, she must be in a good paddock.
I didn't know about the 8 week thing either?? Surely Dr's would tell you if it was going to be the be all end all? I can't even remember what the date of Jacks last ones were...
Still haven't started solids yet. but next week will be the weeked, I think... maybe XD He'll be 6 months then and I think he's going to start needing them. He's already had three feeds this morning and he's only been up 2 and a halfish hours oO;
I think I'll be turning Jacksons seat around next week. For 1 He's over the 8kg's. And 2, he gets so frustrated in the car seat and I think it's because he can't see anyone. and 3, I'm going to hurt him or me one of these days lifting him into the car they way I do! (we have a land cruiser with a lift kit in it, it's very tall - I almost need to lift jackson up over my head) and I'm only 5 foot 4ish) especially how much he wriggles now, he's going to wriggle right out of my hands one day mid-lift.

ZF, I didn't give Amelia the rafferty's porridge this morning and her poo is already starting to soften. So I think that might have it as the rafferty's porridge has extra iron in it.
Teagz, have you tried a mirror on the back seat? That might give Jackson something to look at. Must be a pain to lift him up so high! I'd need a step ladder! LOL
Eluned - Caroline had some hard poos for a bit and they were quite painful (poor little bubby) but that was only for a few days I think and she's been fine since. I did put some stewed pears in her rice cereal too and also used the liquid from the juice after stewing it when making up the rice cereal instead of water and i think that did the trick!!
I've just caught up on a few pages of posts as we've been away the last few weeks so sorry for no personals!
we survived our road trip - we drove from Melbourne to Brisbane and back :clap: (with stops along the way!!) and Caroline did fantastic!! she catnapped during the driving and dictated where the pitt stops were lol one stop was in some nothing town that didn't have any shops or petrol stations, the train station was only a platform so we had to feed her on the side of the road (and cross our legs coz we all had to pee!). She also did great sleeping in SO many different places in her portacot. I am hugely impressed. I was paranoid that she would sleep in the car all day and be awake all night or just wouldn't sleep properly in the portacot. Go Carloline :dance:
the downside to the trip is that she had started to wean from me the week before we went. She wouldn't complain that she was still hungry though but when she'd only feed for 10 minutes (after usually feeding for up to an hour and me knowing she wasn't slowing down because she was getting more efficient) I offered her a top up bottle and she literally lunged at it and gulped it down!! also being on the road I decided that one bottle during the day would help otherwise we wouldn't actually get anywhere. she ended up drinking less and less from me each time and now is only having a morning and evening 'snack' (less than 10 minutes in total). I was upset at first but realised that it is also a good thing and she is getting more and is equally as happy. BF'ing was a long battle for me and one that I happily did for six months so am just stoked that I got six months in to her!! she's doing great on the solids - she had her first banana at the Big Banana in Coffs Harbour (how many people can say that lol) she SCOFFED IT... we didn't even get a chance to mash it... she just had it in her mouth and sucked it constantly. I tried to only give her half to see how she would go with it, being a new food and all but she got SOOOO ****ed that i gave her the rest and when that was gone she hollered like she'd been stabbed lol we had to leave!! so yeah, banana's are a BIG hit!!
she CAN roll but often just won't. she doesn't seem to have any interest in sitting up on her own though. My son was sitting up by himself by around 5 months but not this one. She wants to lie down or stand up lol no in between!! she can scoot around on her back and even on her tummy she is moving about, it's weird - i can be watching her and i can't see HOW she's doing it... she just moves.
anyways, so sorry for the selfish post. great to see all the babies doing so well!! happy half birthday!!!
oh and Daytona ... 'oh and I'm pregnant again' lol just threw that at the end of your post. CONGRATULATIONS and all the very best. You'll surely have your hands full but from what I hear after the first bit it gets easier coz they have each other to play with!!
Sounds like you had a fun trip Illey! I was panicing before we went to the US as well but same Maddie was fantastic. Shame that Caroline has cut back on the breastfeeds but WELL DONE for going for 6 months....I only lasted 6 weeks so good on you for sticking with it. :dance:
Had our Child health nurse apptn today, Freya is 8.1kg and 67cms long! Shes geting so big!!
I gave her mince for the first time tonight, she seemed to like it :)

Jenni13 - ohhh Freya would be so cute, my Z would look lanky compared to her she's only 1cm shorter but only 6.6kg.. lol i love little chubba bubba's though, they are so damn cute.
How is everyone else going with solids etc now? Z is a pig and LOVES her food, so much so i am thinking of introducing some meat a bit early, the health nurse said b/w 7-9mths BUT as she's eating 3meals already there should be no harm, am thinking i will steam some chicken keep it nice and moist and make like a past with avocado and maybe even do some mince.... wont be doing chicken mince though it always seems to go tough and A would never eat it when she was younger.
Yesterday was CR@P day, Ava fell down the stairs cos she was being stupid and dancing, some woman pulled out in front of me driving home from MG and i was 2cm from t-boning her and then last night A's roof started to leak so she slept in our room, Z's teeth were playing up so by 12 she was in our room too but slept from 12 til 5 on A's fold out couch beside my bed... ahhhhhhhhh
I forgot how much time preparing food for a little one can take up and with Ava constantly eating i feel i'm never out of the kitchen.

Z wont roll, she can but she wont.. she sits though so i think she's going to be like A and just SIT until she figures out how to crawl..:wall:

Well, jackson is rolling around like there is no tomorrow now, he started on sunday night and there is just no stopping him! He can sit as well but I still put something behind him in case he flops. He's pushed himself up on his knees a few times too, but I'm hoping crawling is awhile away yet. OH! And we have the very tippy corner of a tooth popping out. Eep! It's all happening quiet fast over here!
AND we FINALLY got some solids into him! Sweet potatoe. The rice cereal just wasn't going to happen so we moved straight to the real stuff and he LOVED it. IT was so cute seeing him all covered in orange too. However, I'm not looking forward to the next poo nappy XD

Is coconut thought of as a allergy food? I gave DD a taste of coconut icing today (naughty i know :( lol ) she didnt have any reaction apart from wanting more lol....just got me thinking

AFM, Amelia is loving her food. In order to beef her up, we have been on 3 meals a day for the past week or so including meat for the protein and fats. She's been having mainly casseroles, spaghetti bolognese and cottage pie. She's loving her veggies too. Have decided the Rafferty's Garden porridge is making her poos hard. We cut it out for a couple of days and they went back to how they should be, then I gave it to her again yesterday and this morning and they were hard again. So now just have to find something else to give her for breakfast. Might try her on some yoghurt tomorrow morning. She's had bread as well so could do toast. She lunges and tries to grab anything I've got in my hand. Today we were at my nieces birthday party (movies and mcdonalds) and I was eating a chicken wrap and she grabbed at that. She almost got some in her mouth, lucky it was only that pitta bread wrap stuff! She went to her first movie today - the new Shrek one in 3D. She didn't actually watch it, just fed and then slept in my arms or layed on my lap. DS loved it, it was his first 3D movie but he fell asleep in my arms too by the end of it. He was so knackered, he fell asleep on the couch at 6:30 tonight. He's starting to drop his day sleeps so he's dead tired by the end of the day.

It sounds like you give your DD quite a variety....im a bit lost on the creativity side of things! you say casserole's, spag bog, and cottage pie (omg like my fav!) im guessing you make it yourself? how do u do it for your DD? does she have they same as you, but just pureed? I have given Freya a heap of different veg, fruit, lite jelly, and tried her on mince the other day which she enjoyed.....but now im lost on how to expand her menu :)
Jennie yep just straight out of the same pot as our dinners! I just take a couple of spoonfuls out and mashed those up, not quite purée but just a bit lumpy so it has some texture. It's the easiest way to do it, giving her what we eat. I can't be bothered cooking all different meals lol we did it that way with DS and it worked really well. Off to check my PMs now :)
Thanks everyone Ava seems fine, the fall down the stairs didn't seem to bother her, she has a slight bruise on her head but thats all, the little feral was still running round like a freak and climbing the stairs like normal. She's an odd child, she walks up them with her hand on the wall or rail and the same coming down.. i wish she would crawl on them but NO WAY! :wall:

Teagz - Jackson is such a clever little man, can you send him round here to teach Z... she will sit but wont roll.. Ava did the same and refused to roll even though she could and just crawled at 10mths.

Eluned - so glad Amelia is loving her food, i should be more game and give Z some of the stuff we eat but A had reactions on 2 seperate occasions and although her allergy tests have come back clear i am still cautious with Z... although she eats a lot.. she LOVES milk arrowroot biscuits, ate an entire one the other day.
Poor Z has conjunctivitis, am hoping the drops will clear it by lat today, early tomorrow though as we have her cousins birthday party on sunday!

Eluned- Interesting that the Rafferty's Garden gave DD hard poos. Which one were you using? We use the purple one. DD1 had rafferty's garden too and I thought the purple one tasted better than the green! You do so well with what you give her for tucker! We are just starting to explore veg in our cereal at night. I am going to be "brave" and try some pears for brekky this morning! It's funny how two kids are so different. We had DD1 on a whole lot more at this age. Well done on the movie too :)
Zarava- I just finished looking at your latest pics. The girls look like such good mates in the making there. Did you have a better nights sleep last night?

Hello to everyone else. Bun are you there? Is all ok?
How many sleeps is everyone's bubs having at the moment? I get roughly 3 naps a day out of DD2. Although it depends. She very occassionally has a decent sleep in the middle of the day so that leaves 3 sleeps but she mainly goes down for 1 sleep cycle at a time. I remember DD1 was down to 2 sleeps a day at this age. Oh they are so different!
Jenny - Z is having about 3 sleeps aswell, normally 1 sleep cycle with a bigger one in there somewhere but SHE choose when that is.. :rofl:
The girls do seem quite close, A is very full on and i don't think poor Z gets much of a choice but she thinks her big sister is pretty funny!
Just added some pics of us walking the property to check out the creek after the rains yesterday, it looks cool and i never realised how big our house looks from the border of ours and next doors property!

i had actually changed my mind and decided to wait til he hit the middle range of 10 kgs'... but DH, being the doting and excitable father that he is... chnage the seat forward facing while i wasn't around. He hasn't been in it yet... but I shall let you know how it goes.

Well i am a little sad today, have realised that my last baby is no longer a baby and there will be now more. Z is sitting up on her own, drinking water from a sippy cup, playing with the bigger kids at the play centre yesterday and enjoyed the jumping castle :(
I love that she is doing a lot of things but she's not little anymore! :crying: i guess in a sense i am lucky she is such a clingy baby or i think i would be out of the picture very early!

Caroline had her check up on Friday and weighs 7.2kgs and is 65cm long so weaning from me has helped her chub up that's for sure!! she had her immunisation needles today ... man I hate those things. thankfully now she's clear for six months before having to have any more!!
She's been waking once a night hungry ... one health nurse says don't feed her or she'll make it a habit to wake up for food and another says it's the six month growth spurt which is pretty big. so who knows. I just feed her at the moment. she often wakes around 5am though and just CHATS REALLY LOUDLY to herself for about 30 - 40 minutes and then goes back to sleep!! however after listening to her for that long I am lying there awake wishing desperately for sleep! day sleeps are going great (touch wood) with an hour and a half in the morning (she wakes after 45minutes but puts herself back to sleep) and the same again in the afternoon - 2 hours if i'm lucky. here's hoping that's a new habit and not a regular fluke!
ZF... he ended up putting it back in backwards facing because he couldn't work it out haha! even then it took him two hours and we ended up having to call his sister over to help us! He was ready to chuck the seat out and said it was a peice of crap... it's a top of the line SnS!
He put it in our other car tho, a comodore - hate it and the seats are alot more sloped so it wasn't working right and he ended up having to put a rolled up towel under it to jack it up a bit. the windscreen in my car has a massive crack in it and apparently it's 30% of the roofs strength gone or something so I'm not allowed to drive it til it's fixed. Funny thing is I have no idea how I'm meant to get it fixed when I don't have a car seat in it to take it in to get fixed?
So... I can't wait to get it fixed. I love my big truck!

I have a situation. Last monday Jacks started solids and he was LOVING it. He was even lunging for the bowl inbetween mouth fulls, and now, for the last 4 or so days he HATES it. He won't open his mouth for anything, if I do manage to sneak a little bit of something in there he does this cough thing like you do when you taste something horrible, or he gags on it. This morning he even pushed the spoon away from himself with his hands. I have given him sweet potatoe (we started with this), pear, pumkin, rice cereal and rice cereal wih banana in it. I have tired it all mixed with breastmilk, water, at room temp, cold, warm, runny like gravy or like apple puree... nothing! I just can't get him back into it & I don't know why and it's driving me nuts.
Healthwise he is his normal happy little self, he has gotten his two bottom teeth in the last week but they haven't seemed to cause anything eventful. We've only had 2 bad nights in the last 2 weeks and occassionally he just needs a little panadol at night time before bed.
So, WWYD? Should I keep offering him different things until he finds something he likes, keep offering him the same stuff? Maybe only half a BF then offer slids then BF? Or just leave it for a few days and start all over again? I make all this pureed food and I'm literally just throwing it all straight back out again and it's driving me bonkers. I have a little boobaholic on my hands!!

Hi all we are good! DS2 went to MCHN for immunisations and wg on friday was 7950 grams so up 1070 grams in 8 weeks!!!
Not excited by solids at all gags and spits back of vomits!!\
Teagz DS1 was just like yours, he started on solids loved it for a week to 10 days then started refusing and pushing away, I kept offering for a week but still refused, MCHN suggested I dont offer anything for 2 weeks (remember food is fun until they are 1). When I re introduced he loved it and took to it like a machine!!!!
Both my boys are boobaholics!

Teagz - possibly a stupid question but how come you give him panadol before bed? I only ask because the last mabye 5 nights Caroline has woken more during the night usually just makes lots of 'chatting' noises for as long as 30 - 40 minutes sometimes and goes back to sleep (i usually only get up once to feed her when the chats become more err requests as such).
