Thanks for your hugs and thoughts girls. You are right, the heart problem doesn't slow her down at all now which is a good thing. I don't think I would say she is rolling yet....she does a few 'hey my heads up high and oops I fell over and I'm on my back now' which is different to rolling over on purpose. But it does mean I didn't get much time where I could leave her on her mat and know she was going to stay in the same spot!

Sagres - I'm so sorry to her that about DD! But from what it sounds she is not letting it slow her development down! :D. What's going on with that now, just waiting for her to gain weight now? That'd be so scary as a parent to have a bub's go into surgery at such a young age. You sound like you're handling it really well!
Jasp - is that your own avatar you created? I love it - it looks great! How is Miss Arlea?

Tam - try not to stress about Maison's development. I know its hard, but after having DD at 31 wks (1.18kgs) I always used to ask everyone about their babies development to compare and it was doing my head in. (Unless a paed has bought anything out of the ordinary to your attention that is?). It certainly sounds like he's on par for his age - so you're doing brillliantly with him!! Trust your instincts.
AFM - Mr B is doing well. He can sleep anywhere from 4 - 8 hrs in a stretch overnight. He has a lot more awake time now during the day, however he tends to nod off during our daily walks ;). I really should weigh him soon.
I've been more struggling with DD and DS needing attention (for either food, drink, bum change etc) at the same time. If DD doesnt get what she wants first she tends to do all the naughty things to get my attention quick smart. I just try to prioritise - if it means one or the other is left crying a bit longer than I'd like, so be it. That must make me sound absolutely horrible :redface:. But there is only so much one pair of hands can do. Sometimes they sleep at the same time, which is good as it gives me a break; other times its like they stagger it so one gets my 100% attention while the other sleeps - and I really enjoy that time too. Anyone else with a toddler - close age gap to the newbie??? Anyone??? ;).

Mizerech - Maison was born at 12.11pm. He was induced at 38 weeks as he was only a tiny 2.8kgs. But he is doing really well if his weight now. I had him weighed two weeks ago and he was 6.7kgs.

Tam - Maison is doing really well with his weight! Bridie is only just 5kg now - she took ages to get to 4kg from a birth weight of 3.27kg, so I'm extra pleased that she's gaining well now :dance:
Leesa - I'm impressed that you are managing 2 under 2 :o I guess even with a bigger gap you wouldn't be able to attend to them both at the same time. My mum says she used to read to me while feeding my sis, but we had a bigger gap (2.5yrs) so I don't know if that's useful? And doesn't help at all with the changing or if they need comforting or rocking to sleep... all I can say is good luck!
AFM: currently really tired as she decided she needed food every 2 hours last night :rolleyes: Have ordered the 'wonder weeks' book to see if that has any useful ideas about dealing with these growth spurts! Now, to bed... :asleep:
Tam Wow Maison is doing great... Nola-mae was 3.9kg born went down to 3.5kg when we left the hospital i had her weighed 3 weeks ago and weighed 5.5kg but Nola is going through a growth spurt for the last 2 days and nights having feeds every 2 hours can't wait to get her weighed tomorrow :D... so what was your due date may i ask? mine was 25th but was also induced

Miz - How did Nola-mae go with her weight? Maisons due date was meant to be the 26th July. How is Miz going with her Milestones? Maison still hasn't laughed yet. Lots of smiles and little giggles but not exactly laughing.
Tam :dance: Nola-mae weighed in at 6.8kg wooo hooo i was shocked lol she is now 64cm in length born 53cm hehe going to be one tall lady..
Nola is going pretty good with her milestones she has been laughing for a little over a week she laughs when i sneeze. On Sunday night she laughed herself to sleep very funny.
When im eating Nola watches me and opens her mouth and will grizzle a lil... starting to show interest in food but is still to young for food, is anyones bubs doing the same?

AFM we had a bit of a wonder week here last week, AR hit the 3 month mark & was very unsettled for a few days. Seems to be completely over it now though & feeding & sleeping are back to normal, phew! She is rolling now & laughing, has her fists in her mouth all the time & has finally started drinking a bit more too TG.
Will get her weighed again Friday, hopefully she will have picked up a bit more this time...

AFM: Maison is trying to roll now he gets half way trying to roll from his back to his front but he just cant seem to work out how o pull his arm out once he has rolled over 3/4 of the way. He has only rolled once from his tummy to his back so far. Maison also started laughing a few days ago very cute I must say.
I'm not sure if it is because we have had a hot day but Maison doesn't seem to be eating as much as usual and is very fussy when I try to feed him. He usually loves drinking his breast milk but today he only seems to be eating 60ml here and there. If he is no better by tomorrow I think I will have to take him to the drs.
It is hot here too and Bridie's having an awful day - hasn't slept at all. At 3 I tried to feed her and she was so upset she refused boob, which has never happened before! Hubby took her for a bit and calmed her down and now she's happily feeding, phew. Hopefully will sleep after this...
We are through through the 3 month wonder week, fortunately, and back to only waking at 2ish and 5ish. She seems to be starting to get the idea of grabbing things in order to do something (make noise, usually!) We just got her a mobile and she's utterly fascinated by it, and will try to bat the pieces suspended just out of reach.
No sign of rolling back to front here - when she's on her back she seems more interested in trying to lift her legs right over her head! She has also started wiggling up the mat by lifting her bum, pushing with her legs, and sliding on her head & shoulders.
I'm loving watching her work things out. So much learning happening so fast, it's truly amazing!

Just wanted to pop back in and say hello! I've been struggling to get around BB for the past few weeks so have not been posting here, but am now trying to get back into the swing of things!
Archer has been struggling a bit with day sleeps and with pretty bad eczema - I think we kind of have the eczema under control, but not the day sleeping - hence not much 'puter time! He is also a bit on the small size - only 5.3kg and 59.5cm - maybe jockey size!
Anyway, hi everyone and hope I get back in here to keep up with the news!

AFM - Blake is an official tester of 'sposies with Choice Magazine. Fourteen days - fourteen different brands, labelling removed from them, but I can tell a few of them by their style ;).
Blake is weighing in at just under 7kgs now, and those two bottom teeth are so sharp - I'd forgotten how sharp they can be since DD! He looks to be close to rolling, and he is loving our story time - I'm a Mem Fox follower - ten minutes each day of reading aloud. I'd never seen cradle cap until Blake as DD never had it. When I first saw it I freaked out and thought he was turning into a fish - sounds funny but I was serious lol! :rolleyes:. He's a self settler (Thankyou God!) and is just a content little spunk, who is forgiving of his big sister and her demands for mummy time! However I try to entice him by holding / grabbing at things and next thing is for him to roll...:pray:

Bridie's getting lots of nappy-free floor time, which is great for exercise, nappy rash and my attempts at elimination communication :) She can now roll both ways - front to back and back to front - so sometime she'll figure out she can do them in sequence to move. Then the carpet is doomed!
Currently going through the 4 month growth spurt/wonder week 17, not so fun. I'd got used to having a smiley little angel, but now she's finding it hard to go to sleep, fussing at feed times, needs attention constantly... how's everyone else doing?

We are working out all the stuff we need to take for a month staying with my parents. Bridie has more stuff than either of us! (Though I guess if we had to take our own bed and toilet for visits our stuff would take up lots of room too...)
We are through the growth spurt, yay. She's getting better at reaching for and grabbing stuff. When we go to pick her up, she will curl her head and shoulders forward to help. Favourite toy atm the moment is crinkly paper - excellent timing! No interest in solids yet, but I'm watching for the signs. Her vocalisations are getting more varied - she occasionally says 'da' or 'ga' instead of just 'ah', but I'm not sure she knows how to create those sounds on purpose yet. She is just beginning to make noises that sound like laughter - very cute!

How is everyone doing?
Arlea has been a bit unsettled the last couple of weeks, nothing major, but she is usually so happy & cruisy, she is acting a bit more 'normal' now, lol. We have had some sleep issues (still going really), sometimes she will have really good 2-21/2 hour sleeps, other times it's 40 min & then sh'es horrible until the next sleep. She tends to wake up screaming a fair bit too and we had a couple of nights the other week wherer we were up & down, up & down...
I wonder if there are teeth moving around there... can't think of anything else :dunno:
She still isn't gaining a great deal, I have been weighing her at the chemist & I think I will start taking her every week, but having said that, she looks fine to me.. she is very active, getting up on all fours and moving around a lot so maybe that is why she's not gaining a lot, she's probably using it all up!

We are going well. No that is a lie Alannah is going well, me not so much.....grrrr to mastitis. I've been in bed for 2 days feeling like I've been hit by a truck. Oh well I'm a bit better now and hopefully will be back to normal soon.
Reading your posts I read a few things that Alannah is doing exactly the same! I majorly suspect she had teeth bothering her a couple weeks ago like Arlea and she does the body/head curling thing to be picked up like Bridie. Actually she does the pick me up thing when I put her in her car seat and am trying to do the straps up - oh dear! She also has this look on her face like 'how can you be doing this to me' at the same time, poor little chicken.
Wow Arlea is getting up on all fours?? That's pretty cool!

Jess - I love the talking and laughing or nearly laughing, so sweet. And they look so excited when you 'talk' back - priceless! Alannah has been teasing us for weeks with almost laughter but finally cracked it tonight!

Well as I said Alannah is going well. Her latest trick is putting her feet in her mouth - alrighty then! She can roll from back to front and front to back but just doesn't bother trying that often. She is a very happy chatty little thing, lots of big smiles and happy babble. She loves hearing her mummy and daddy sing nursery rhymes and holding their hands as they do the actions. She also likes 'reading' books and helps by turning the pages! Oh gosh that reads like a dating column, "she likes long walks on the beach, quiet nights at home and looking for some one with a sense of humour' LOL.
Sagres - I hope the Masititis goes away really soon hun - how damn painful it can be! Ouch. Woohoo on the rolling - and the foot chewing lol!!
Jasp - the only thing I can think of is the whole 'wonder week' thing as Blake was acting the same way up until this last weekend ;). We should be out of the clear now until week 22 / 23 or so ;).
Jess - go the crinkly paper - just in time for Xmas too! We buy them all these lovely toys and they are more interested in the wrapping paper lol!
AFM - Blake has finally started to roll from back to front, but hasn't worked out how to get back yet (men pffft! :lol:). All the signs of teething - but nothing to show for it yet. He's such a happy and content baby, very easy going considering I also have DD (almost 2) to deal with through out the day. We just finished a two week nappy trial with Choice magazine - not one of them could withstand Blakes 'poo plosions' :shakehead:. But it was interesting to test 14 nappies (5 for each day) for free :D.
Ok, who is dressing up their little prince / princess' up in Xmas gear this year?? Hands up in this household lol. Blake is going to be an elf lol - care of Baby Target he he!

It has been FOREVER since I have been in here so I thought it was high time for an update and a bit of a catch up!
Jeremy is very unsettled tonight so I'm typing one-handed and holding him until he is sound asleep before I put him back in bed.
I think maybe we have some teething issues going on - just no teeth to show for it yet! Now let me see if I can catch everyone up on our lives...
As if we didn't have enough on our plates, the four of us were in a car accident the last Sunday of October. The accident was bad enough to see our car written off and to see Jeremy and I take a trip to the hospital for a check. I pulled all the muscles in my rib cage so had some x-rays before getting the all clear. I took Jeremy with me to the hospital mainly because he would be due for a feed, but also to get checked out since he couldn't talk. DH and James were both fine!
We FINALLY found a beautiful 3 bedroom house to rent that is in our price range and we moved in on November 14th! We moved the office two weeks later so it was hectic for everyone. We are still unpacking and settling in at home and we are getting new carpet laid and some partioning done in the office so not settled there either.
Despite everything we have had a wonderful, quiet, relaxing Christmas.
We are very much looking forward to what the new year has in store for us as DH has some wonderful work opportunities coming up straight away.
Jeremy is cooing and babbling, smiling and laughing. He is rolling from back to tummy and thus enjoying tummy time much more now. He loves grabbing hold of his feet and he will chew on his toes. He is starting to show great interest in the food we are eating so he'll be ready for solid food when he hits the 6 month mark.
Finally, he continues to be a BIG boy, weighing 9.35kgs at the 5 month mark. He is also 71cm long and wearing size 0 now!
Just out of curiosity... how often are the other babies feeding? Jeremy feeds anywhere from 2-4 hourly which my MIL thinks is far too often!
Off to put Jeremy back in bed and have a snack as I am really hungry again!

I'm glad to hear someone with a bub nearly exactly the same age as Jeremy is finding nights very unsettling - I'm thinking teeth or wonder week or both!!
Jeremy wakes repeatedly again after being in a good routine of sleeping 6-9 hours straight at night! SIGH!!
But at least naps in the day are getting sorted and he now takes one nap in the morning and another in the late afternoon!
One of the reasons why I LOVE belly belly is because we can come here and find out what everyone else's babies are doing and not feel like our baby is weird or has some weird disease!

LilP - Wow, you've been one busy mumma! how do you do it? Still going thru a wonder week too or has that all settled down again?
AFM - Mr B is finally rolling both ways now :dance:. He's such a content little dude. Everyone comments on how much he's grown, but seeing him everyday I don't really notice - other than how his clothes fit him ;). We've started him on small amounts of pureed food - potato, pear, banana - and he's a bit more interested in it now, I'm sure he'll get there in his own time - I'm not stressed.
Hi all! Halfway through the month at my parents' place and we are doing ok... the portacot has been absolutely useless, she wakes every time she's put in there because it's just too far down. So she's having most of her day sleeps on me or on our bed with me next to her (we were already bed sharing at night so that is still ok). Hate to think what this is doing to her ability to sleep in a cot... she's going into childcare two days a week from the week after we get back, so this could be bad! At least I've managed to get back into more like her normal pattern of sleep times after the craziness of Christmas and the following week. And no-one has soaked my MCN, or fed her anything non-approved by me, or criticised my parenting style/decisions (though Dad thinks I'm a bit overprotective!) so compared to other horror stories I've heard about family visits, it's been great!
A week and a bit ago Bridie decided she wanted some of the banana I was eating, so I gave her a mashed up piece, and she thought it was great. We've since tried apple and pumpkin, both of which went down well, and I plan to try potato tonight. Solids are certainly a lot messier than breastfeeding... and the resulting poo is STINKY! I would have been happy to wait for 6 months but she was clearly wanting it. Haven't bothered pureeing anything, just mashing finely, and that seems to be ok - she doesn't always get the tongue motion right and sometimes the food comes back out instead of going further in, but she swallows it ok. So here we are, starting solids, which I am NOT thinking of as starting weaning - I want to BF her for a long time yet!
LilP - You are BFing, right? We are still feeding every 2-4 hours too, which everything I've read says is fine. My mum was an ABA counsellor and she says that the '4 hourly ideal' for feeding came from some doctor writing down somewhere 'one breast every two hours', which became 'one bottle (=2 breasts worth of milk) every four hours', and there is no actual evidence to say that this is what you should aim for. All the studies of BFing show that feeding on demand is the best way to keep baby healthy and thriving, and keep your supply at the level your baby needs. Maybe you can tell your MIL to read the ABA website? Obviously whatever you're doing is working, 9kg at 5months is huge :) B is now 7.4kg, but she did have a bit of catching up to do.
Glad to hear that you are all ok from the car crash, and settling into your new place. What a stressful time that must have been!

How is everyone doing?
I'm enjoying a quiet evening watching Ladder 49 on TV (not sure I'm emotionally up for it but watching it anyway) and loving that DH is home. He is working nights nights at the moment so the boys and I are on our own Sunday night through Thursday night. We are doing well but it is exhausting since I am ON 24/7 because hubby is either at work, doing paperwork, or sleeping! Thank goodness this is a short contract and will only last for about 8 weeks.
Jeremy was 6 months old on Monday and he is doing so well. He now weighs 9.7kgs and is still 71 cms long. He is mobile as he has figured out a commando style crawling/scooting that works well for him and allows him to go pretty much wherever he wants. He is rolling from tummy to back now but often seems to forget he can do that when he gets tired of being of his tummy and then he just lays there and cries!
We've started solid foods! So far we've done rice cereal (which he loves as long as he isn't too tired when I give it to him) and pumpkin but he HATES that so far. Today was the first try of pumpkin so we'll try again tomorrow (maybe in the morning when he is happiest) and see how it goes.
How is everyone else doing with solids?
As for sleep... Jeremy thinks sleeping during the day is a joke and when he DOES take a nap it will only be for 15-30 minutes. He also takes quite awhile to get to sleep at night which means he isn't settled sometimes until 10pm or a tad later but then he sleeps until sometime between 3am and 4am.
I have put a couple of soft toys in his bed and he will often play with them for awhile when he wakes in the middle of the night and I get woken up to the sounds of him laughing!!
Quick question about solids again... when is everyone planning on introducing wheat or oats as grain instead of just rice?

Mr B is 6 mths today :dance: and doing really well. He sleeps through most nights, and will have two day naps ranging from 1 -3 hours - so I can't complain about lack of sleep. He's rolling all over the place and after reading your measurements LilP you reminded me that I should have measured Mr B today being a 6 mth interval :wall:. He's such a happy boy.
We're taking him for his first little holiday for the weekend, leaving early in the morning. We'll see how well he travels eh?
LilP - we use farex in this household and so far so good. We also give pureed fruit and veg. I hope the pumpkin is a hit tomorrow!

We did our first 4hr car trip last weekend going to see DH's parents, Arlea did really well. I have found she travels better when she isn't too tired - I would have thought tired baby, will sleep the whole way - but no, we had a 2 hr trip a couple of weeks ago & had to stop for her 4 times in the last hour :wall: whereas on the 4 hr trips last weekend she was well rested & just cruised the whole way!
Lilprecious - sounds like Jeremy is doing great, what a good weight! Lol at him playing & laughing in the middle of the night :lol:
We started solids at 5 mths here, she is doing very well with it. I am doing kind of a mix between BLS & purees, whatever she manages ok & is convenient. Things get kind of hectic around here :rolleyes: We started giving her toast a couple of weeks ago & she loves it, one of her favourite things is vegemite on toast. I don't give it to her too often, not sure about the salt etc but a little bit every now & again is a treat.
She is having breakfast & dinner & we will probably start lunch in the next few weeks I guess. She also loves a stalk of broccoli, she pulls it apart & chews on it & sucks & slurps on it, I have never seen a kid get so into it with broccoli! :lol:
Good luck withthe pumpkin... I have found with some foods it can take 3 tries for Arlea to really get into it. Sometimes screwing up their face is a reaction to a new flavour rather than not liking it (although if they are spitting it out, or turning away that's a good indication that they aren't keen!) Arlea took a few goes before she accepted banana.
She is mobile now, not quite 'crawling' but close. She humps her way around the floor and kind of has the legs worked out, when she gets the arms happening...look out world! Surprising though how far they get just humping!

Leesa, I am jealous that Blake is sleeping through and napping so well! I've given up on Bridie sleeping through before she's 1. At least bed-sharing means that when she insists on being attached for 1.5 hours in the middle of the night (4-5.30 this morning :rolleyes:) I can mostly sleep through it... We go to bed at 8.30-9ish, up about 7, and she has a few naps during the day but only for 45min at a time. She's delightful when she's awake though, so I can't complain too much!
Lilprecious, we have not done rice cereal yet - I guess I should buy some! We've just tried cooked veg and fruit, and the other day I cooked up a bit of oatmeal porridge and gave that to her (cooled of course). So far so good, she hasn't refused anything or had any bad reactions that I've noticed.
Jasp, cute that Arlea loves broccoli so much! Bridie does that with banana. Might have to try the broccoli stalk idea, I've been looking for more things I can let her feed herself. (Soooo messy though - but they enjoy it!) With the toast, do you just use normal bread? I've been wondering when it's ok to give wheat, as hubby's cousin is coeliac. Need to talk to my child health nurse, I think.
The rest of the visit with my parents went fine, we even went to a couple of concerts and she was quiet (breastfeeding is great for that ;) ). She's just had her first full day of childcare and went OK, had two naps and only insisted on being held in the afternoon when she was getting tired and grumpy. The centre is 10 min walk from my work, so visiting at 3 hourly intervals to BF her is doable, just! But we probably should get her used to a bottle again so she can have one EBM feed and I can get more work done :redface: Luckily we're pretty quiet at the moment. Anyone else going back to work soon?

Well we also hit the 6 month mark recently - what a 6 months it has been! We are currently having a really really horrible time with teething, Alannah is suffering a lot, but other than that she is such a sweet happy little girl who I love being with. She has had check ups with her paed and cardiologist recently and she seems to be going fine besides slowing down a bit with the weight gain.
lilprecious - we tried to start solids but it is not really happening for us yet. I think the teeth issue is causing a problem here, she just doesn't want anything near her mouth. We have tried a few different things in pureed and non-pureed form and she is a bit indifferent to it all. We will get there, in the mean time life is easy not having to have food with me when I'm out and about I don't have to deal with solids poos!!
leesa - woo hoo on the sleeping through - it sure isn't happening here! She has really good day sleep but night time is not so good. Keep it up champ! Hope the weekend away was good!
Jasp - hehehehe I still laugh at your humping descriptions! That is great that she is getting close to crawling, clever chicken! Alannah is not really close at all, she lays on her tummy and wants to move but her legs aren't even getting under her body so it is along way off. Arlea is sitting up isn't she - I think I saw photos on fb sitting up? She is such a cute little thing!
Jess - Sounds like the transition to CC and work is going well - good on you! That is great you can visit her during the day - would make life much easier. Work is a bit up in the air for me, I haven't worked in Australia for over 3 years so I don't have a job to go back to. So I will want to find some work at some stage but finding a new job is a bit harder when you've been out of the industry loop for so long.

I am writing this message on only about an hour of sleep so ignore typos and I hope it will make sense in the end!!
Jeremy is having a rough time of it all of a sudden. I think he is teething but I'm not 100% sure. He is also suffering from a runny nose but both his older brother and his father have colds so that is not much of a drama.
He had his 6 month needles yesterday afternoon so became a bit unsettled and clingy in the evening which I was expecting.
However, the big issue is that he is somewhat constipated and that is causing a big drama. When he does a poo there is only a small amount. It is still soft (not rabbit pellet consistency yet) but he strains and cries and struggles to get it out and I just felt horrible for him all night.
The laxative I have in the house for James is not suitable for children under 12 months so I'm thinking some diluted prune juice and pureed apricots would help?
What does everyone think???
I'm also wondering why it has happened now as I've already cut his rice cereal consumption WAY down and he is mainly eating baby porridge, some sweet potato, butternut pumpkin and carrots!
I look forward to some suggestions or ideas...

Lilprecious, yes, try some diluted prune juice & some fruits. Is he having water?
Arlea hasn't had too much trouble with constipation but sometimes she works a bit to get it out. A dose of Infant's Friend usually helps her along then (we have only had to do this twice though). If all else fails you can get Coloxyl , I think you need to see your Gp first though, not sure.
We are in the middle of a very unsettled time here too :wall: although last night was great, much better, she only woke once but her day sleeps are still rubbish :shakehead:

Oh no, sound like I'm not the only one who has hit an unsettled period!
I am pretty sure we have some teeth troubles but it has been going for 4 weeks and as yet no tooth. I've had her checked by the doctor and they said it is probably a tooth and sometimes that happens i.e. lots of pain but no tooth emerging.
Hope all our little cherubs cheer up soon...x

Nope! Her gum feels different sometimes, different lumps and bumps down deep but no sign of a specific tooth and her gums look exactly thr same as they always have.

That's interesting... I think it might be time for us to try an amber teething necklace then. Arlea's gums are the same, no obvious signs of teething. But boy is she chewing!
See Alannah has been chewing chewing chewing for months now (we call her Miss Chompy), but I would say that her teeth have only really be making themselves felt in the last 4 weeks. So I'm not sure if chewing alone would be a sign, but heck, these creatures are all very different so what would I know.
